Classic Japanese & sushi menus in a relaxed setting with exposed brick & long sushi counter.
Amazing restaurant, the sushi is fresh and yummy, I didnt realize that the fish slice was cut from the fish on the table, highly recommended.
Love the vegetarian rolls here!
Our favorite spot in Chico
Good service I would definitely recommend this place!!
Delicious food and comprehensive vegan menu!
Best sushi restaurant in Chico by far. Located right in the middle of downtown, Aonami is the perfect place to go for a great evening. Everyone there is absolutely amazing.
Excellent sushi with an inviting atmosphere and attentive staff. The roll selection is extensive and very tasty. Excellent nigiri as well!
The food is amazing and the owners and staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. All the food is fresh and cared for. Sitting at the bar is the most fun; watching the sushi chefs roll is wonderful and they are more than happy to answer your questions or converse with you. Definitely a must try.
Ive been an avid fan for years. Excellent food. The tempura shiitake is usually better, but excellent rolls. I love fish, my wife doesnt, but good food either way.
Evacuated from South Lake Tahoe and staying with a good friend in Chico. I was absolutely overwhelmed by the delicious selections and superb flavors. Best I have ever had. Excellent service as well. Highly recommended.
Consistently delicious food, I recommend going during happy hour or tofu Tuesday. Lots of vegan sushi options. The workers are friendly and its an overall great restaurant
I love Aonami, especially the vegan rolls (I like to think I played some part in them being on the menu 😉). I eat here as a very, very, very special treat to myself because I never want to get sick of it. So good! Friendly folks, too.
Aonami has the best sushi in Chico and all the people that work there are so incredibly nice. I also really appreciate the policies theyve had during the pandemic. ❤️
Simply amazing. Absolutely my favorite sushi place ever hands down. Jimmy is a great guy. You can buy one of these sake boxes and put your personal touch on it so they can put it in their collection for you to use the next time you come!
The sushi here is always fresh and delicious! Well rolled rolls that hold up firm and melt into heaven in your mouth with the different textures and flavors. The tempura is to die for too!
Aonami has quickly become my favorite sushi joint in town. It took one visit to easily dethrone my previous favorite sushi restaurant in Chico. Their rolls are by far the most creative, delicious, and original youll find in this area. The appetizers are also amazing! In addition, they have Asahi, and Sapporo on draft, and offer a good selection of sake, plus a great brand of cider - basically, you cant go wrong with any choice of libation here. Aonami is without a doubt the best sushi restaurant in Chico.
VEGAN FRIENDLY. Best sushi in Chico. Highly recommend the off menu Megan Roll which even my non-vegan friends order because it is SO good or the 70.
Ive been here so many times since their initial open. They are the best sushi in Chico hands down, and have never disappointed. Service is excellent every single time.
This is my favorite restaurant in Chico. They have the best vegan rolls, I recommend the 5th and the 70, they are so flavorful and delicious. The staff is always friendly and polite ✌️
Being Vegan and living in Chico is no longer hard when considering going out for dinner. I just had the best noodles at Aonami loaded with veggies and the flavor was amazing. Ive had their sushi as well. Great dining experience and tasty teas. Must try it.
The owner Jimmy and his staff are top notch! Easily the best sushi in Chico! The octopus and all the fish was the best Ive ever had. Anoami has secured a life long customer! Thank you 😊
One of the best sushi places in town! Gotta try it at some point when coming through Chico. The prices arent bad either. The quality is really good too.
Nice little place. Atmosphere is nice and semi-lively. Food was good. I could have used a little more flavor on the sauce, however, that is just my personal preference.
Amazing high quality sushi, the chefs take their time and prepare beautiful things.
Best sushi in Chico. Jimmy is so great!Update: weve been going to Aonami since it was on Nord, and have loved every meal, date night, and family experience weve had there! The service is always incredible, the food is always delicious, and the atmosphere is 💯. We love our boxes and follow their social media for the lovely little deals on specials and new items! Highly recommend! 💯💯💯
This is the best place to have sushi in Chico. Not only is their fish sustainably sourced, its some of the best I have ever had! If you are vegan or vegetarian they make amazing and unique rolls that are sure to satisfy too! The staff is always really friendly and helpful. Be sure and check out their happy hour too!
I think this is my new favorite sushi place!
Authentic Japanese sushi in the heart of downtown Chico. Friendly staff, tasty dishes, lunch specials, Japanese beers and great variety of sakis. A favorite!
Aonami is one of my favorite spots in Chico, and certainly my go-to sushi spot. And their happy hour is KILLER. $2.50 for a pint of Sierra Nevada, $5 for a carafe of nigori. Not to mention the staff are always on point and the owners husband and head chef Jimmy is a great guy. Cant beat it.
I went to Aonami for the first time last night. Ive been to a good amount of sushi places in Chico and this place is by far my favorite. Id dare to say that the omakase I got was some of the best sushi Ive ever had (and I grew up near the ocean).Aside from the food being great, the service and aesthetic was stunning. Our server Justin was great so props to him as well! Oh and this place only uses sustainably sourced fish? Love it!If you like sushi and havent tried Aonami please do. They have cooked and vegan options as well so dont let raw fish stop you. I know Ill be back! 💙🌊
The absolute best local sushi place: the owners are wonderful, the wait staff has always been super courteous and warm, and the food is spectacular. Happy hour is cheap, including 2 dollar Sierra Nevadas. Top five place in Chico for me.
Excellent service. Some people dont like to leave the ambiance is so good. Unfortunately that sometimes means longer wait times. The owner and staff made up for it by staying open late so we could have enough time for our meal.Food was great. Love their options for vegetarian/vegans.
Great environment, great service, and the most important thing great sushi!
Ive been coming here for years as a vegan, and I have to say their vegan menu is consistently the best vegan sushi Ive had. Delicious delicious food. If you eat meat theres great options from what Ive heard as well.
I want to give zero star if I can. Uncooked salmon and wait 50mimutes. We ordered tofu bowl and yakisoba as well but it felt like hell . Because tofu was not crispy and dried And yakisoba noodle was like uncooked flour. So We complained this problem to Male waitress but he didnt say any word like sorry and he talked really fast and the word only I can understand is Discount.Discount cannot solve everything dude. You have to say sorry firstly to customer if the foods are terrible. We waited 50 minutes for getting food. There was not happy hour and just only few teams on table. In other words, the restaurants wasnt busy at all haha.. therefore it was really Terrible service and this is not the true Japanese food. It was an insult to Japanese food.To add. Im the person who have been visited at least 20 times. Today is the worst of worst dayI recommend to visit Big Tuna or Gen Kai rather than here.
Super amazing food. Love the rolls.
Nice smallish place. The food was good, but selection is limited because they only use sustainable ingredients... So not as many choices as a typical sushi place is why I took off one star. But the food we had was good. The King Kong rolls are almost too big. You cant really eat a slice in one bite, so gets a bit messy. But my wife just had one of those rolls for dinner and that was more than enough with the potstickers and soup we also had.
Such a hidden gem of Chico! This restaurant prides itself on sustainable sourcing of its fish. I personally do not eat fish and there is something delicious on the menu for me too. If youre lucky enough to visit when they have ramen, you wont be disappointed. Also dont look over their appetizer menu. The veggie gyoza is really tasty! Menu prices are fair. There isnt a lot of space so call ahead to see why the wait is.
The vegetarian rolls are some of the best in town. Almond butter in a sushi roll? Yes please! Service was decent and prices during happy hour can not be beat in town.
This place is amazing. The staff are extremely friendly. The selection is limited but good. The wakame is literally the best Ive had anywhere Ive been in the United States. The prices are actually not bad. With the expense of food in Chico, Ive been hesitant to come here since I got to Chico a month ago. Glad I finally did because the prices are lower than I expected but food quality is high. I see myself easily becoming a regular.
After reading such glowing reviews, I figured I would give it a try. The waiter was very friendly! Unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing! Everyone at our table had ordered several different rolls, and we all shared . My companions and I felt the taste was very bland. Maybe it was just a bad day for the chef? I dont know. Was the food fresh? Absolutely! Was it enjoyable? Not really. :(
I go to this establishment quite a bit as a vegetarian and they are always so attentive and helpful for me. I go to meeting here too and while its not a cafe style working experience, its good for meeting people downtown Chico when convenient and has a nice bar area to eat alone when you just want to be in and out. Parking isnt always way to find close but still worth the find. Definitely go during their happy hour, its a great deal with about half off many items.
Aonami is great, especially if youre looking for vegan options at a local sushi place. Even though I dont eat fish, I appreciate that they aim for sustainable choices, which are unusual compared to your average sushi joint (in a good way), and they have a nice array of vegan sushi rolls and entrees that are all excellent. Its not any pricier than other sushi places, either. Nice atmosphere, good service. Whats not to love?
The sushi here is wonderful. The vegan options are fun, light, and represent a lot of the flavors your likely looking for. The I-5 and 99 are two we very much enjoy. Also the fact that the fish is selected by what is sustainable, takes a lot of guess work out of what to order.
I love this place!! The staff are helpful, the vegan rolls are amazing! The only criticism is if a group of people are dining, there are little to no other seats available for other diners.
We waited 23 minutes to order. Waitress was sweet but forgot our drinks (I had to ask twiceI had to go to sushi bar to get wasabi. I asked for sweet and low 3 times.we were finished and waited another 20 minutes for our bill. We were not given the happy hour prices for our sushi/appetizer that were advertised but we did not want to stay any longer to fix so we paid the over amount and we would not go back.
I loved this place back when they were on Nord, and finally tried out their new location. First off - the sushi is fantastic! So delicious and fresh, and I love that they have vegan options so its great for groups. Love the food. Something about the new environment didnt really make me want to eat there though, which is surprising because it used to be such a beautiful location. It was very dimly lit and had a lot of loud annoying music, and felt empty (maybe because its still new?). The miso soup wasnt great, it tasted like everything had been dehydrated and was rubbery. The service and sushi were wonderful though, so I would definitely go back.
Ate here the other night since my huge disappointment back at the rawbar. The service and the food was a lot better to my satisfactory then the previous place. Tried the normal its pretty interesting how you can mix raw fish and pumpkin together like that. Give them a try
Tucked away in a corner of a strip mall, Aonami is both delicious and freshly made. This sushi is the best Ive ever had, hands down. The vegan options are numerous, and everything Ive eaten here has been exceptional.
Jimmy is awesome! The Walnut sushi rool is the best. Its my 3rd time ordering it and Ive never been disappointed. And Kim my waitress is the cutest! Thanks guys...youre awesome! I cant wait to see your new place downtown.
