Antojitos Cocina Mexicana - Mexican restaurant in Universal City, United States
Great food in a convenient location to Universal. Cool vibe and everything was full of flavor. Salsa was good with a bit of a kick. Definitely worth stopping in if you’re out that way. It was pretty quick and no wait in the off season of the theme park.
This is probably a great place for drinks and small plates. Unfortunately, we had just finished a 3 hour drive from San Diego and were starving. I ordered the nachos and substituted the pork for the steak. They were flavorful but for the price there was not enough steak and too many black beans. My wife ordered the steak tacos and they were decent. Her margarita was delicious and so was my anejo tequila. If nachos are your thing, 1 order is more than enough for 2.
The place is packed we had reservations. Ordered the tacos it was 3 of them with beans and rice and the meat was good. The onion topping with the bell peppers was not good and it taste rot. It also smelled rot. I just eat one and my daughter had another but she removed the toppings she just likes plain taco. Left the other due to the smell. I mentioned it to the server and she just said oh really and shrugged I still paid for the food. The drinks were fine. Service was fine no problem.Just over all a bit disappointed by my food and that they didn’t try to make it better. I don’t think I’d come here just because it’s too crowed for my taste too.
I had the carnitas torta. The carnitas were good. The torta came with a good amount of guacamole. Overall the torta was good and a decent size. My other party got the 3 taco platter. It came with rice and beans, a good amount on the plate. Great Mexican spot in citiwalk. A must try.
The food was great service was great. The salsa was disappointing from a Mexican restaurant. It tasted like tomato paste with Pico sprinkled on top for flavor. Thankfully the food can with sliced jalapeños we threw it in the salsa to bring some flavor to it which kinda worked.
Excellent service but the wait time for drinks was 50 mins. We had our food 40 mins before the drinks arrived. Never had this happen before. A server by the name of Cory gave us some of the best service we ever had & fun conversation. We will definitely be coming back.
Expect a 45-minute wait time. This place gets busy, and I can see why. The food is good. Cool neon lighting. Great atmosphere. The only issue we had was the waiter forgot our utensils, and the second round of drinks took a while. It was busy, so Ill let it slide. Well visit again.
Definitely want to give this place a 5 star but based off my personal experience its gotta be a 4. The food was delicious and the cocktails were splendid (which means a lot coming from a cocktail enthusiast), but I only wish the service was as good the the menu. For some reason the restaurant stop seating people for shift change, Ive never heard of a place that stops seating customers shift change but then to do it at the peak rush hour is a very poor decision by management! My wait time ended up being almost an hour MORE than the original estimated 45 min. After we got inside the ambience and decor was fantastic but service was very slow despite my fantastic waitress who seemed to be doing her best. Again the food was amazing but the service was the only reason I cant give it a 5 stars.
Super, super fun restaurant with a whimsical yet vibrant decor. The food was flavorful and filling, however we only had appetizers. This place can get really busy, so please bring your patience and have a margarita or two while you wait. The only criticism I have is the salsa. It was extremely acidic with an over abundance of lime. Which was very hard on the palate. But overall a pretty good place to dine with good vibes.
Great atmosphere as far as music but the food was not all that good, wasnt impressed by there chile rellenos. Gross not authentic.and to make matters worse the waiters were sagging there pants showing there under wear as hanging out, one waiter had girls panties on... weird vibe.. I think its a little to much . Dont bring kids here and dont bring your first date here unless your into that... unprofessional. The only thing good was the margaritas.
Food was fine. A bit stale. Our waiter Richard was legit super nice and very lovely which is why Im giving 4 stars. He was very attentive and great.
Never had I encounter service like this. Worst service ever!!! I was being patient because I know there is a shortage in staff. Maybe our server was having a bad . There was no need to take away the check the way he did. He slammed it on our table and came back and took it away with an attitude. Unbelievable the way people treat others. My order came back incorrect and i returned it. There was no reason we needed to be treated this way. People please speak up .other customer sitting next to us in disbelief and uncomfortable . Utterly shocked. Will definitely not be returning to this establishment. I didnt even want the churro comp the manager was offering nor the bar drinks. My child nor myself should of had this experience.
The server was rude and acted like they were doing us a favor by serving us. The food and drinks were great but won’t come back here again because their service ruined our experience.
Great experience and food. Came with my family to have a late lunch. Richie are server was very pleasant. What made my day more was as my baby daughter who fell asleep in my arm needed to be in her stroller but their policy was not to have stroller inside our table was very generous to bring it inside for now. Manager name is "Go" ( I know 🫣I will thank you both for your service and made my family happy.
Salsa was deelish. Drinks were so so, food was mediocre. Ambience makes it worth the visit.
The positive: Five stars for Jennifer the bartender and all the staff!!! Jennifer was amazing; she really made us feel like she was there to celebrate with us while we ate at the bar. All the staff at the bar were awesome, we felt very attended to and cared for. Jennifer was on top of everything but there was always another bartender there to ensure we were taken care of. Drinks were delicious, good quality, and they didn’t mind adding a small tweak here or there to a drink (examples: extra-extra cherries in a dirty Shirley, red wine atop a whiskey sour to make it a NY sour).Quality of food was decent, unfortunately about half of our food came out cold, but they were happy to remake it or warm it up. It was a very busy Saturday night so a bit of cold food is not a big deal, we’re in no huge rush. The negative; There should be WAY better accommodations in place for disabled/limited mobility folks. I am using a walker, and the swinging door to the bathroom was so heavy I almost couldn’t get in. It was humiliating trying to push open this heavy door. I have half the strength I had a couple of months ago and this was a stark reminder of that, even though I’m not weak by any means. I had to push the door open with all my strength, shove my walker in the door jamb, and scoot my way through the door trying not to get hit by it. Not to mention, the only accessible bathroom stall had a puddle of vomit on the floor in there. Again, the staff was very kind about it when informed about the vomit. The staff’s kind, positive attitude and genuine care for their guests are really the only reasons I’m listing this review at 5 stars. We do come here often since we live nearby, so I’m hoping management will see this nice long 5-star review and at least listen to the real concerns.Management: It’s 2022, why isn’t there an accessibility button to open the bathroom door??? Those buttons can even be touchless motion sensors, and since restaurants opened up again you see them everywhere. Surprisingly not at Citywalk or any of the restaurants there that I saw.Management: If that’s too expensive of an option, consider just leaving the heavy bathroom doors propped open with a doorstop. For people like me, or elderly people (I may have limited mobility presently but I’m only in my late 20s), or people with arthritis (for examplewhose hands would cramp and flare up trying to pull the door open on the way out. The thing is heavy! This lack of common sense is where I was tempted to lower my rating to 2 or 3 stars, but Jennifer and the rest of the staff really made our night. Management, be thankful for your incredible staff, they are saving your butts.
Food was great service was ok . Being a server myself and knowing how we need to treat our customers . The sever took drinks to a table that sit after us took chips to another table that was second before us . Then then busser proceeded to tell us to stop letting our kids touch the table next to us because then he was going to have to clean it again . It’s very upsetting how people treat others just by the looks . I am a server and I treat everyone the same no matter what . It would have been 5⭐️ Because the food was so delicious but disappointed about the service
The bar area stinks. For paying high prices on everything it should be clean. Bar tender was rude from the moment we order. Answering with one worded conversation only saying yes and never checking on us again at the same moment he had us wondering if we did something. Considering how attentive he was to others around us. It was nothing special, had better mexican food from the trucks..
The food was delicious, service was good my waiter tried his best at offering alternatives but unfortunately the restaurant doesnt carry any hot spicy salsa only diced jalapeños that are not even spicy at all and running a Mexican food business that is essential hope it can be introduced or offer 🙂
This was such a horrible experience. The food was meh, but the service was the worst. I went with my family for lunch after having a wonderful time at Studios Universal. The waitress took like 15 min to bring some chips and ask if we were ready to order. He passed by our table multiple times, but he did not acknowledge us. After he took our order, we waited like 30 minutes to get our food. After eating, I asked for the billed and went to the restroom. When I returned, my mom told me the waitress was mad because of the tip. My cousin gave him $10, and the waitress asked them if his service was not good enough. I have never heard of a waitress demanding a higher tip. My mom told him we would add $10 more with the card. We left the restaurant and went to the park again. While taking a break from the rides, I checked the billed and found out the waitress charged us for 2 extras margaritas. For me, it was ironic that the guy was demanding more tips, and he did such a horrible job with our table. Maybe he did it on purpose. We don’t know for sure. In the end, we returned to the restaurant and got the money back. We did not have an option for the money to be refunded to my card. My advice for anyone trying this restaurant is first double-check, the bill it looks like waitress overcharged on purpose and second do not give waitress more tips than what you feel they deserved. After all, tips are earned, not obligated. There is no law in which anyone is forced to give a tip and nevertheless the amount of the tip. The name of the waitress who ruined our experience and part of our day was, I believe Hector or at least that is what the receipt says.
To be in where it is locates it s good. The esquite is good. The enchiladas were good. The carne asada quesadilla no complains either. MEXICAN-AMERICAN with good flavor. Prices ok. But its in Universal...what do you expectAh! And the waiter was very kind.
1 hour waiting for a half empty restaurant, this place is a joke, $76 for nothing. Spicy tacos for the kids menu. Horrible service 😞
Johnathan was an amazing server and gave great food advice for our first time dining here.Johnathan a definition of high quality servers
Wish I could give it an honest review… but my wife and I went on a Tuesday night and literally half the restaurant was empty. Tables empty outside and inside and yet they turned our service away stating they had no availability at the moment. It was half empty!! I counted 7 empty tables just on the patio area. I will never recommend this place. Oh and one empty table had lots of food left on it as well. Which is also a red flag.
I don’t even know where to begin. I was out celebrating for my birthday and went to universal for a couple of hours, went to city walk for dinner. Have been wanting to try this place out since they opened and it replaced Camacho’s (and I loved CamachosOur waiter was a young gentleman didn’t catch his name. Was very rude didn’t ask if we wanted refills and when it came down to checking up on us, he didn’t. The food was not good at all. The only plate that was decent was the carnitas. We went in earlier that day for drinks and those were really good! I definitely wouldn’t come for the food. We had a table with other customers next to us, he came to have a full on conversation with the guy for a couple of mins, when he was done talking, I called him over so we could just get our bill at this point. He ignored me. My fiancé had to get up and tell him. We wanted to split the bill and he said they didn’t do that there. So we went to go ask one of the ladies in the front, they said they could. When we asked him again he laughed a little and said “I already told you we can’t split the check” then we got the shift manager to go tell him to do it. He then brought the check and threw the tray w the bill at us, he also threw it on the table again when we needed to sign for it. Maybe he was having a bad day, but being an assistant manager in retail I know customer service and this isn’t it. Making us feel as if we weren’t paying customers. I could’ve ordered drinks too which is part of why we went back but honestly with the service I received I didn’t wanna support this business.
Seevice is good food is average, casadia very good the vegi
Came here for lunch on 6/14/22. Pretty slow and small crowd in the place. Nice restaurant and cozy booths. Wife had the fish tacos and I had the chicken. Service was friendly and food was ready in about 10 minutes. The food we received was really good. The tacos were 5 stars, rice 4 stars but beans were 3 stars. I would definitely come back.
Went here at 2pm for lunch.Waitress told us there was a:-45 minute wait-menu available by scanning barcodeWhen we were seated, we were given a one-page, front-only menu. We asked the waitress where the rest of the menu was and she said that this was all that they were serving. Our waitress also told us that it would be 40-45 minutes for the food. This all would have been great to know prior to even waiting to eat.Poorly managed.
Great place to come grab a drink. Lively atmosphere and huge selection of liquors for those that love shots. I typically buy draft beers and appetizers. Can get pretty busy on weekends though. Also, they recently removed some of my favorite appetizers.
This place was fun they were able to accommodate a big group the food was typical Mexican food with a vibe. 6 out of 10
Can’t stress this enough.. Get the Carnitas Nachos for your group! It is filling and you can spend the rest of your budget on tasty cocktails!!!Yum!!Btw, I’ve tried their entrées on other occasions and they are good too but I like to sit, eat and sip!TIP: Butterfly Corazon is a satisfying beverage
The food was bad. Thumbs down. No flavor, very small portions, bad quality. The server was great though. the drinks were also decent. But the food was so incredibly disappointing, also expensive. I’ve been more impressed by a lean cuisine. I would never recommend coming here.
Where do I start. Food was bland, seemed like it was microwaved beans and rice. The fish tacos were dripping with grease, and doused in cream sauce. The water had stuff floating in it. Even after getting new water it still had floaters. The server however was amazing! Great service and very kind. The chorizo tacos were dripping with grease. The front of house staff was direct and a bit rude.Strawberry Margarita was very bland.Recommendation to management is to prioritize the food and drink. Make sure the chefs are tasting the food before it goes out and to make sure it’s fresh vs recooked.
My experience was good; the restaurant was cute, the waitress was super attentive and humorous; it made the atmosphere better. As for food, my colleagues who usually eat this type of food said that the taste is not authentic. I had guacamole and the Chicken Chimichanga; it was ok.
Excellent food and service! We had great margaritas and then shared the fish tacos and carnitas plates. Everything was very good and our waiter was always helpful and attentive. The prices are reasonable for a nice night out for two. We will definitely be back when staying in this area.
It was one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever visited here in LA! The service was very fast and friendly! The best part was that after 3 minutes we sat down to our table they brought us free chips and salsa, lol! The food was amazing! We got chips and guacamole, quesadillas and two margaritas with salt rim. Lastly, the restaurant was very clean. Amazing experience overall to a point that that’s the only Mexican restaurant I wanna visit whenever I’m craving Mexican food!
I liked the ambiance, very cool decor. I had tacos and they were delicious but my husbands chicken burrito was too bland for his liking. Overall, would go again and try some other items from the menu
As we were leaving LA we decided to head to Universal City Walk before making the trek home. We decided to eat at Antojitos Cocina Mexicana because the menu looked great. The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant had a great ambiance. It was definitely photo worthy. As mentioned, the menu is what sold us. Our party settled on the wet burrito, tacos, and the sampler appetizer. I was super excited for the Chicharrones de Pollo as I don’t eat pork.Unfortunately the flavors of everything were okay. Just, okay. There was nothing that stood out to me to want to come back. It wasn’t bad at all, just was okay.
Antojitos at Universal Walk is an eye candy Mexican Full Service Restaurant which qualifies for the Parking Valet stamp. There are some really cool details in the interior decorating of this very colorful restaurant. There is a cactus chair, booth seats set in bamboo type cages, a private dining room behind hot pink chain link curtains which features velvet skull wall paper. A rotating colorful bar. Outside couch seating with pillows (very comfy). Plus a great view of the crowds walking up and down Universal Walk.I started my review talking about the ambiance of Antojitos as this is their saving grace. Well, this and their cocktails. The "Tequila" menu features Margaritas and Handcrafted Tequila drinks as well as Tequila Flights. I had the Mango Chamoy which is a handcrafted cocktail featuring Corralejo Tequila, Mango Puree, Simple Syrup, Lemon Juice, and a dash of Cayenne Pepper. Sound refreshing? It is. The Tequila menu features thirty different Tequilas, Wines and Draft and Imported Beers. The menu features fantastically descriptive items, which unfortunately fail to deliver. The chips and salsa are a good indication of whats about to come. The chips are reminiscent of store bought. We started with the Tinga Taquitos which are corn tortillas, braised chicken, Pico de Gallo, guacamole, sour cream, queso fresco and cilantro. My picture of this item shows how there was virtually no cilantro, queso fresco and pico de gallo. When our server first took our drink order she informed us there are no blended cocktails as their "one" blender was broken. The Mango Chimoy was supposed to be a blended drink but today was served on the rocks. We also had the Chili Verde, tomatillo braised pork with salsa Verde, rice, beans, cilantro and chicarrones. I love Chili Verde when it is from an authentic Mexican restaurant. This version was very commercialized and disappointing.Service was spot on. There was only one waitress outside and she was attentive to all her tables. Anahi C. even stopped to take several photos for a customer. We visited during post Covid when restaurants were not able to find workers, I am sure Anahi was stretched because of this. You would never know though. She was very attentive and on top of it.I would go back. It is a fun place. Definitely looking forward to try another one of their handcrafted cocktails.
Wow. The service is amazing and that first impression sets the tone. We only got some nachos but they were outstanding. If you’re walking around on here and not sure where to eat you should think about this place. I wish I could start at the beginning and eat it again 🤗
So far I have only stopped in here for a nice cold El Chingon IPA. The server was fantastic. We were served chips and salsa right away. It was a very good experience!
Outside dining is back open! Love this spot, always my first choice when eating at the Citywalk. Full bar and the food is always delicious. Try their Elote! Its truely gourmet and something you will crave after trying! Their desserts are also a highlight. Before covid, they would have live Mariachi bands on their patio which my family and I loved, looking forwardto the day they are back. Staff is polite and on their A game. Ill be back for more thats for sure :)
Now that outdoor dining is open again, the kids and I went to this family favorite. Service as always was excellent and our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The food never disappoints. This time I had the Al Pastor tacos as they are so good and full of flavor. I highly recommend you to try them the next time you are at city walk. Don’t think about trying this restaurant.....just go and enjoy it you will not regret it. Chicken enchilada and shredded chicken tacos are also simply delicious.
Good food, good service, lots of outdoor seating. Came during "the pandemic" and they are doing dine in. They have a large variety of tequilas and the nachos seemed to be a popular item amongst diners.
There are so many positive things I want to say about this location! First, our server Daniel J was FANTASTIC! He was super friendly and gave off such a positive vibe and humor. That by itself makes me want to come back! I got the Pineapple Fire and Ice and it’s 100% worth trying, and I will be back to get another one! It’s my new favorite drink. We ordered tamales and quesadillas. The quesadillas were pretty good, I wasn’t a huge fan of the tamale sauce - it was a bit sweet. The food prices were a little high, but it’s expected for City Walk. I would definitely come back for the environment and drinks though!
We came here for a nice date since theyve reopened the city walk. everything was clean and they took your temperatures at the (free!parking garage while implementing the masks and social distancing. The food was delicious and authentic and our booze always topped off with the friendly staff walking around. It was the perfect date and we ended with getting some treats across the city walk. Recommending it to all my friends eager to go somewhere nice and fun. Also since the park is still closed taking great pictures near all the universal signs was so easy.
I thought the stake was pretty good. We asked for it medium it came more like medium well. Didnt want to return it. The rice was ok. A little under cooked and the enchilada was actually pretty close to authentic Mexican enchiladas. A lot of "Mexican" restaurants use can sauce but here you can tell they used tomatillos. I wouldnt rule this place out. I think I would like to come back and try something else. A lot of people were ordered these massive Nachos. They looked pretty good. Last, I think the salsa for the chips was pretty good not to spicy.
Nice meal in CityWalk. Very nice decor. Service a little slow even though we were there on a Monday night and the place wasnt busy. The salsa seemed house made, it was fresh and had a nice kick. My wife was a fan of her enchilada trio. My carne fajitas were tasty, good seasoning, but light on the meat. It was just enough to have one row over the 4 small tortillas.
The food wasnt all the great we order the trio guacamole appetizer it was disappointing just stick with the original guacamole. We also order the burrito it was okay it needed more flavor. Overall this place is great to grab a drink it has a great atmosphere.
Great place, their customer service was amazing. They even vegan-ized a couple options for my partner. The "Jamaica Bees Knees", was something new and delicious! Will be coming back when we come to Universal!
