Antigua Guatemala Cathedral in Ciudad Vieja
Description
Privilege
Nice big church, lots of sins to pay for this one!
Super special place, well come back
Make sure to head around the side to find the entrance to the eerie ruined sections for a small entrance fee.
MoreThe ruin is really small. Takes 2 min to walk around. It used to be Q8 for tourists, now Q20
MoreA very grand and beautiful place. There is a small entrance fee but it is worth paying. A unique place made up of several arches. I think it would be great to visit at night, and I would like to visit it next time a concert is held here.
MoreIncredible sight. Thank goodness I figured out the ruins are around the corner and not just on the street face. A ticket costs 20 Q and is well worth it. I went in early on a Monday morning and it was completely empty. All I could hear were the pigeons.
Morereally cool and worth $3 to see the inside
Nice church in center of Antigua
Nice Cathedral. Be sure to look at the back side. You need to go around the block to the right side. We paid a guide to give us information. It was worth hearing him tell us all the information and not just look at the structure of the cathedral.
MoreLa Antigua Guatemala. Simply Wonderful.#NomadicBackpacker
Absolutely adorable place. Concentration of history, spirituality, wide range of restaurants, nice microclimate, air is pure and crispy. At night, it become even more beautiful as artful illumination signify gorgeous historical landmarks.
MoreNice quaint church. Attended mass and really enjoyed it. Very Spanish type style.
MoreBeautiful, a Holy place. St Joseph Cathedral
Beautiful building on a special place along the city park. Part of the building is the restaurated church. The bigger part is a ineteresting ruin after the big earthquake in Antigua. In Christmas time there is huge Nativity Scene with fine music. Worth a visit!
MoreRuins of original and partially restored newer version. The ruins are beautiful I hope one day they are lit at night
MoreOne of the most beautiful sites in Antigua. Combination of restored and preserved cathedral provides a fascinating contrast. Definitely worth accessing the former cathedral area behind the front facing building. It has an open roof where it had previously fallen from seismic activity and time. And it also has beautiful architecture.
MoreBeautiful place to walk around
Good place to visit, since is there the historic center park and nearby other historic buildings.
MoreAnother amazing building next to Parque Central
Right in the heart of Antigua, its one of the towns most iconic structures and well worth a visit. A lot of people dont realise that there are ruins out the back accessible from the street. Theyre cheap to get into and fun to explore. Downstairs you can even see a dungeon and a couple of years ago they did renovations to help conserve the ruins, culture and heritage of the site.
MoreA great place for expats to worship and make bilingual friends. Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Join us there.
MoreMass times on Sunday are 6am, 8am, 10am, 12 noon, 6:30pm.English Mass at 2pm
Very cool seeing the old ruins. Unfortunately thats all it really is. An old church thats partially burned down. Good for a quick tour but nothing more.
MoreBeautiful Cathedral
Great place to visit , Very safe and beautiful the vibe in antigua is really good
MoreLooks like Kings Landing after the "liberation." Most of the ceilings are gone but a lot of the walls and archways are still here. You can also visit the crypts. If you want to pay with USD, you can. However, there are no bathroom facilities, so be prepared. Also this place is not handicapped accessible. You have to climb on some rocks and whatnot to get around.
MoreChurch was nice too see. Truly enjoyed taking photos in front of this amazing building.
MoreGood
The partially restored church faces Central Park is active and allows tourists if they are quiet and reverent. This part is beautifully done. The majority, still in ruins, can be toured for a small admission fee; but is well worth it just for the history. Admire the arches and stucco relief work that remains. Go into the catacombs and see where people were interred. It takes a while to get through all of it because of its massive size.
MoreBeautiful cathedral. Don’t miss the inside with simple but amazing architecture.
MoreOld Cathedral of Antigua Guatemala, there is an entrance fee of around 2 USD. Tour Guides are available in Spanish, and English. Full of history and ancient arquitectural beauty.
MoreOne of the ruins worth to visit. Not expansive.
Beautiful! Did the little tour and it was very cool.
Cozy, fresh, tasty food, well served, good service. Highly recommended for lunch !
MoreThis cathedral has been destroyed and rebuilt again. According to the tales, at today its smaller than hundred years ago.
MoreNice place to visit if youre traveling or even if youre just chillin
Its an amazing city, full of tourists all the time, with culture and traditions that really exciting you!
MoreBeautiful piece of Architecture!
Nice place to visit, lots of history and great for shots
This is a beautiful place to visit. A wedding was happening one day.
Ruins of the Cathedral is impressive. Turist entrance fee is only Q8.
I dont have the idea of the actual size of the cathedral is only a 10% of the real size is amazing.
MoreThe decorations in the part thats still in use is not too exaggerated, quite beautiful. But definitely worth a visit is the part on the back (entrance on the right side!). There you can see how big this thing once was!
MoreThe Cathedral in the main park or plaza in Antigua is one of the most visited Churches in Antigua, due to the fact that the Cathedral is the focal point of Antigua Tourism. Most travelers do not realize that if you go behind the Cathedral you can see the ruins of the original church. These are guided tours that are worth paying the small fee to learn about the history of the Cathedral.
MoreThe church that you will grow fond of seeing in the citys square. Also great to look at, at night. A bit tricky to find a time to visit it if you dont know local mass schedules
MoreVery well restored and kept how it looks after dark is awesome still keeps a lot of its charisma even though a lot of tourism
MoreA shell of its former self, the actual church is less than a third of what it was in its heyday. If visiting, make the quick trip to the ruins behind it to admire its real size. Q8 for visiting ruins if youre a tourist, church free entrance.
MoreLovely cathedral, great photo with volcano in the background
Big, beautiful, historic cathedral overlooking Central Park.
This beautiful Cathedral full of rich history and architectural work is one of the icons the and the core of the old capital of the former General Captaincy of Guatemala, I highly recommend visiting its interior as well as take a look around the south side of it to take a good look at what remains of the original structure through the ruins and get a pretty good idea of what it must have been during its golden years in the middle of the 18th century, truly magnificent.
