Tapped casks line the wall of this old-school bar dispensing local sweet wines & tapas.
Brilliant! Certainly catches the tourists, but the locals too. Tiny sweet wines come out of massive brown barrels and each costs €1-3 euros. Seco (dry, whiteis an acquired taste. Parajete and the other sweet ones are great.
Should be on most peoples to do list in Málaga. Enjoy the vermouth with pickles
Excellent old-style sherry and wine place with good prices. They also do beer...And if its too busy, try the Bodeguita (2nd photoon the next corner on the way up to the excellent working market.
This place is always a must when in Malaga. After 30years of holidays its at least a once a week visit each time. The experience is fantastic so dont be put off by how busy it gets. GO IN and have a great time, its the oldest fortified barrel servery in Malaga.
Historical place to try sweet wines and cold tapas shoulder to shoulder with locals, dirty, quick and rude service, highly recommend.
Great place to try different wines and vermouth. They give you directly from the big barrels which is amazing and they have a great variety to try out.
Really worth a visit. It felt very traditional. Not rushed. We ended up taking home a bottle of Pajarete poured from the barrel
What a delightful experience. Busy little place but we’ll worth a ‘shot’. We had the muscatel from the barrel and we were hooked to return daily on our post dinner shots. Don’t miss this Picasso’s favourite place.
The place has a reputation for a good reason. Got the vermouth which was refreshing. The moscatel was like drinking concentrated raisins! I am not complaining.
amazing wine and tapas in Malaga!!
Very authentic. Great vermut! A must in Malaga.
Small, cool, local place with an authentic feel. Just stop by to have a vermouth or a pajarete at the counter. No sitting area and some limited choices for snacks (cheese or some cold seafood platters)
Another must see place when you are in Malaga! Ive never seen anything like that before! People standing "next to the bar", talking, drinking wine and having fun! Behind the bar, big barrels full of wine! Red, white, sweet, dry... whatever you want! This place its one of its kind! Whats more... everything is very cheap! For two glasses of wine you will pay around 3 euro.If you do not know what to drink, ask staff for recommendation!
Day drinking ? Yes please. The coolest niche bar ive been in. They wrote your bill on the counter next to where you were drinking. Loved this place.
Old bar in Spain has alot of character famous place locally. I saw a YouTube video thats how I knew I wanted to go and visit it.
Great authentic place to have a nice pajarete.....
We had a lovely time last night, my wife and I had a couple of sherries, guided by the staff for our selection. We had a small seafood tapas, which was the perfect accompaniment to the medium dry sherry. Lovely atmosphere, great service and fantastic service. We will be back tonight as we enjoyed it so much.
should be 5 stars but unfortunatelly 2 times in a row they asked us to leave 10 minutes before declarated open times.
Excellent place for a quick drink at any time, shoulder to shoulder with friendly folks. Very affordable prices, no frills.
What a fun experience! 100% must do when you visit Malaga!
Amazing old tavern, selling sweet wine straight from the cask at 1-2€ per glass. Tabs are kept in chalk at the bar, or you can pay and take your glass to the corners of the room. Like stepping back in time. The wine is great, all strong, all sweet, all good. Bottles can be filled from the huge casks for around 10€ and make good gifts. Food is not a central focus but they have some on sale too.
Unbelievably good. This was the highlight of my trip to Malaga. A traditional bar with wines served directly from the barrel. Great atmosphere delicious food to snack on and the wine is unbelievably good and great selection. Really friendly staff. Highly recommended
Great atmosphere. Old and historical. Dirty but that’s the beauty part of it. Friendly stuff with very reasonable price.
Lovely sherry, nice experience and good snack food. But staff can sometimes be quite rude
Lovely place when its not too busy. Wines in barrels that you can buy by glass or by bottle. Vermouth is lovely, so is pajarete and Malaga Quina. Nice servers. Touristy groups usually all have the same thing and dont stand at the bar, which is appreciated ;)
Awesome experience! Incredible sweet wines poured out of the original barrels, so many from which to choose.
Great wine! Great place. My boyfriend clearly got ignored repeatedly at the bar though, when he wanted to order, so thats unfortunate. The ladies didnt seem to have the same problem...
Good wine at affordable price, tried 2 types of Malaga sweet wines, was good
If you want a place where you can taste few red , white, and rose wines, this is the ideal one.Dont expect a quiet posh place, as a lot of people come and go, and is busy most of the times. You can even have some side tapas to make you wine even beter. We enjoy our time over there.Highly recommended.
Fun place, good vermuth and fortified wines, cheap, just a corner from the marketplace and 5 min walk from the Larios. What else would you want?
Really cool place. When you order there wasn’t really a menu. Just let them know if you want dry or sweet. Had the chorizo plate and some of the wines. Cool experience.
Old school fortified wine bar, poured straight out the barrels. Was like stepping back in time. Great service and so cheap. Would 100% recommend
Traditional, old style bar serving sweet Malagan wines. Could have stayed here all day. Quick service, and nice wines, even though I dont usually like these sweet wines.Definitely one to add to your list. Can get busy.
Lovely little taverna to pop in for a glass of Muskatel as a pre dinner drink or an any time drink. Tapas are very exciting to snack with your drink. When you order your drink the barman marks the cost on the counter with a piece of chalk to keep a running total.
An extremely authentic Andalucían wine bar. Most wines are sweet but they have one or two options that are dry. Its super unique and worth a visit.
There were many highlights on our trip to Málaga but this place really took the crown. Maybe it was the Sherry working its magic... Seriously, the vibe, the drinks and the atmosphere where second to none 🍷🍷
Must be place when visiting Malaga. An old XIX century tavern with a retro outlook with the great & positive atmosphere. Various wines directly from barrels with what Malaga was known for (Strong, full bodied & mostly sweet Wines). Still the mood is created by people there both the bartenders and all style & age visitors both local & tourists.
Great place to kick-start your party night, delicious wines served in small glass shot allows us to tastes srveral types and value price!! Staff is friendly and introduce suitable wines based on your own preferences 👍🏻👍🏻 dont missed out this bar if youre in town
Casa Guardia is near and dear to me. Last time we visited was 7 years ago and happy to report nothing has changed. Great finos, manzanillas, and moscatels. Server will do the traditional chalk tab method and total at the end.
Great place to visit and have small “shots” of various wines straight from the barrel. Amazing taste and very reasonably priced (around 1-1.5 eu per drink). You can also buy by the litre.
A real fun experience, old school, spit and sawdust bar, you find a place at the bar, order your choice of sherry from the many barrels on show, and the server chalks the price on the bar in front of you, add another round and its chalked below, you can also get snacks which also get added to the bar tab!!Loved the originality of the place and will definitely visit again. If youre in Malaga, search this place out, dont miss the experience
Authentic atmosphere, oldest café, but very good wine for less 🙂👍🍷You can also order bottles of their wine to take with you. Go visit is you are in Malaga, Spain
A must visit in Málaga. Go when its busy in the evenings for the Atmosphere...Dont worry even when theres no room, theres always room! Try several wines and vermouths and eat with banderillas.
An awesome experience to have if you are in Malaga, wine directly from the barrels was so good. We tried vermouth and it was amazing, always makes you to go for more. We had lots of fun here, though the place is usually crowded but its all worth it at the end. Make sure to try all their drinks.
This is our familys meeting point. My husband first came here as a newborn baby in a basket. It is so different and Spanish and hte choice of wines amazing. the staff are always good fun too. It really is one of the iconic places to visit in Mlaga city. Dont miss it, it is a live museum in its own right.
Stumbled across this during our 3rd visit to Malaga. Just behind our hotel Ataranzanas. What an experience, very old school and historic. Its been open for 170 years! If you need an introduction to the regional fortified wines and vermuths at low prices this is a must to visit. Closed on Sundays all day, prices you see on the barrels is cost per LITRE! Yes you can buy in bulk to take away as well. Fantastic.
This has become a regular haunt for us when we are in Málaga. Love the atmosphere and the fact that we can never remember which of the giant barrels has our favourite – so we work our way through the lot.The bar tenders take your order, pour the sherry direct from the barrel and then chalk up what you owe on the narrow bar where youre standing. As you have more drinks they add more chalk numbers. There are no seats. Most of the true locals seem to come in just for one and then disappear. Everyone else is a tourist. Finally, remember to leave a tip. Your coins are thrown into a bucket, a bell is rung and thanks shouted out for all to hear. Magical.
Such an atmosphere place with positive vibe. Perfect wine straight from cask with really good price, around €2-€3 for glass. Strongly recommended for people who wants to try good Spanish wine and feel good atmosphere.
Its not just a Tavern, its Malaga s Oldest Sherry bar; which hasnt changed on years. wWell worth a visit wether you are a tourist or just like Sherry........ they sale Beer as well.
Excellent original old fashioned wine bar, antique decor. The wines are stored behind the bar, drinks are poured directly from the barrels. Great place for tapas and wine. Close to the indoor market between the railway station and the main shopping areas. Small section of food also available.
