Anson Farm - Dining & Carvery - Carvery in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom
First and last time for me. Waited 20 minutes at the bar to be told no soft drinks, so purchased a non alcoholic lager. As it was poured the keg ran out and was changed..i was then told it would be put on table so go and get carvery. Then a 45 minute wait to be served at carvey, made way to table no drink. I then put my lunch down and went back to the bar for my drink 15 minutes waiting got my now warm flat drink returned to seat to my cold carvery. So first impressions werent the greatest to say the least.
Great full English. Staff were very friendly and great value for money. Would definitely recommend
Just being to anson farm in Thornaby had a delicious carvery staff excellent food excellent and excellent service couldnt fault it be going back soon
Visited for the first time today. Defo worth booking a table which we did. Both had the large carvery with pigs in blankets. Will be standard for both of us next time. Apart from.the broccoli been undercooked it was amazing. One of the nicest carvery Ive ever had. No wonder there were queues but they soon went down. All the food was piping hot and very tasty. A credit to your carvery chefs who kept things moving. Well done
Cold chips, freezing cold onion ring, cold gravy, hard chicken, only getting two starts because the bbq sauce on the Hunters chicken was lovely and the steak in the steak pie was nice, maybe up the amount of steak in the pie counted 4 pieces. Used to visit regularly, wont be rushing back.
Excellent service and foodGeorge was very pleasant and helpful at the bar with my BlueLightCard discount card thank you. Hayley was extremely helpful with my disabled mam she helped her with the carvery and to her seat. Also not forgetting Nicky the chef very helpful and lovely food thanks to you all
Excellent food lovely atmosphere good value for money extremely friendly staff
Only four stars purely because the carvery selection was thin on the ground and not topped up like usual despite not being that busy. However customer service was absolutely incredible as per usual. We dined on Monday 12th September for my mother in laws birthday. The assistant manager Eileen was super attentive, helped with the cake and family pictures and when the grabber machines weren’t working for our 5 year old made sure she still got a prize (or two). So grateful to her for making Mams night a special one.
Waited 45 mins for 2 really plain chicken dishes, the cake away cakes were lovely though
Brilliant carvery! This is always are go to when we want a carvery, staff are all super friendly and the chef was extremely helpful when we went up for our carvery by giving my partner a tray while i carried the baby. Atmosphere is great! Prices are very reasonable as the portions are huge! Can order on the app from your table or place your order at the bar which is handy! We took family who were visiting from down south and they even commented on how good the food was! Better than the toby 100%!
Had the carvery small and a beer the staff where very helpfull as I had not been there before and they guided me what to do
Very disappointed today, had not booked and was told at 14.15 no table available till 16.00. This was ok, whilst having a drink till the table would be ready the hostess allocating tables ( Sarahthen showed other people to tablets who had not booked. A table near where we sat was not used all the time we were sat there awaiting our table. Several tables were cleared and no one sat at these tables whilst we continued to wait. George (barmanpassed comment were we sit waiting and when informed of what happened he asked if I would like to speak to management this was at 15.30 no management spoke to us before we left at 17.30 which I informed him of as we left he apologised but it was not right as he had done nothing wrong. We frequently go here for meals but will not be rushing back in a hurry.
Stood in a silly huge queue for the carvery for over a hour whilst deliveroo or similar driveres where coming and going infront of people who were eating inside. Also ordered a hunters chicken that took almost a hour and when it came it had clearly been sat for ages then re heated before i got it. Wont be going again for a sunday lunch. If its that busy they need to be turning people away. Quality over quantities went straight out the window.
We have been to Anson Farm quite a number of times and been very satisfied with our meals, so decided to go for lunch today with our grandchildren. We all had carvery, it was all very good except the broccoli which was soft to the point of being mushy and the sliced carrots which were mainly raw (I know the difference between cooked al dente, firm and raw), which I mentioned to a member of staff, however this didnt spoil our meal and they did offer to replace the carrots. What I take issue with is being CHARGED £2.90 FOR A CAN OF VIMTO, ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS. Had we known the price beforehand we certainly would not have ordered it but didnt see the price until it was opened and handed to our grandson, after which my husband checked our receipt. A lesson learned, check the drinks prices .
Came here after visiting another in York, a little disappointed to be honest, staff not as friendly, poor carvery guy seemed to be the only member of the kitchen staff and rushed off his feet... there were no peas only mushy, no carrots or runner beans and the boiled and mashed potatoes had a funny taste to them.
We arrived at about 5.30 we should have walked straight out as the food didn’t look the best, after tasting it the food was disgusting looked like it had been kept warm for many hours how they could serve this let alone charge people for it is beyond me surly it must have a time line but no it was all just kept for the next person awful!!!!Staff were really nice but asked how the food was we told them not good at all said sorry and walked off spoke to other staff members but we were left to just walk out really dissatisfiedVery bad do not go and waste your money on food that should not be fit for human consumption
So one of the mixed grills took over one hour and thirty minutes to come out. When stepped outside for some air while waiting a huge rat scampered across the path, that did it for us there wont be going back.
Sunday carvery. A bit hit and miss. A fortnight ago, delicious. This week a bit dire. Lots of the tins needed refills but they were busy doing takeaways. Be a while before I go again.
Huge queue at the bar with only one guy working behind it. Waited over 40 minutes for mains after being told there was a half an hour wait. Had to ask a member of staff where our food was. Waited over 50 minutes for 2 desserts and counting, which I ordered through the app thinking itd be quicker. if Id known theyd take so long I wouldnt have bothered. Still sat waiting for the member of staff that went to check on our desserts 10 minutes ago. Food is always lovely but the ridiculous wait times have put me off ever returning again. Asked for a refund in the end, staff very unapologetic.
Went today lunch time myself wite and grandson whos 4. Fantastic for grandson but sorry to say carvery not nice. Have had breakfast in here before absolutely lovely. Hope it was a one off
Ordered Lamb Curry, they had no rice. Wanted jacket potato, they didnt have any left. Staff were helpful and polite, but not much use when they dont have the food advertised on the menu. I know places run out of specific things, but basics like rice and potatoes?
In the area from Rotherham. Ive been to three Farmhouse Inns around Sheffield and Doncaster but usually for carvery which are always great. This time called in for breakfast. Ive got a Blue Light Card so got a discount. Service was great and the food was spot on and was hot, usually buffet breakfasts are warm or cold. Bacon was a little crispy but thats just me being a bit picky, some people like it that way. It was still tasty. It was busy too which shows its nice.
Enjoyed a lovely meal here with family. The Carvery was so nice. Staff were very helpful. Prices were very reasonable. Wheelchair accessible. Highly recommended 😊😊
Staff were lovely, very helpful. Found us a seat close to everywhere we needed to be. Carvery was great and the choice of deserts are fantastic.
Great carvery large portions. Good atmosphere. But unfortunately the second and third time visiting we came in contact bar staff that ignored you at the bar waiting to get served for your familys order to let people just walk in and jump the que 3 times. Very unprofessional I raised this issue with a other member of staff and she went out of her to try and make it better. But we wont be back to that establishment.
I want to like this place, but everytime we go, we have something that puts us off. We got food poisoning from squid last time, and today, we found a nail in my sons draft tango. The pub offered to replace the drink, which is not enough to soften the disgust. We stood at the till for 10 minutes due to a member of staff having insufficient time to learn the till - we only ordered 4 drinks. The pub is in a great place, it just needs to improve standards and process.
Lovely place, good atmosphere. We had carvery, spent ages waiting for a chef to cut meat (it wasnt busy, I was the only one at the service area). Beef was fatty, stuffing was dry, carrots were a bit too Al dente. Yorkshire pudding was over cooked. Quite disappointed as it was highly recommended
We celebrated our sons 16th birthday today at anson farm. We reserved our table and had a whole section to ourselves.Food was lovely and our server Laura couldnt do enough for our noisy lot.My son had a lovely birthday
Great, friendy staff. Always there to help. I would like to mention Cameron the young lad. He was very polite helpful and very good at his job. Tables were cleared quickly he was helping anyone who asked for assitance. He was polite smart and quick.very good service by him. Rob the manager was engaging with all customer good to see great customer service.
Just had another lovely meal at Ansom Farm. Friendly staff, good food, and very quick bringing food out.Nick & Elaine were our servers today, and they were both very efficient.
Absolutely atrocious. I ordered fish and chips, when it came it was dripping with fat and was over cooked. The batter was so hard that it was almost impossible to eat it.I took it back and told them, the response was “couldn’t care less”. They asked if I wanted something else but I said no as the burger I ordered for my niece was tiny and not very tasty but she didn’t want to make a fuss.I asked for my money back, the “team leader” said that he could only do that if I produced my credit card.I explained to him that I don’t carry cards as they are all in the wallet under Apple Pay. He tutted and raised his eyes to the ceiling. He got a Supervisor who did the job in 15 seconds but neither he or she said sorry which makes me think that this is a common occurrence. While we finished our drinks I saw the same meal purchased by some one else returned for exactly the same reasons. This was my first visit to this establishment and I can say hand on heart that it will definitely be my last.Bad service, bad food and no idea of how to deal with a complaint. This is either a product of bad training or something that happens on such a regular basis that the staff have become inured to it and don’t really care about it.If I could leave no stars I would……..
Food was nice but far too many people in there at once, we had to queue for 45mins for carvery. kids meals came way way before we got to carvery front so they had finished eating before we even sat with carvery to start eating. Not great for family meal eating together
Always nice food at a decent price.Shame about the queues, every Sunday its the same, 40 people waiting to be served with 1 person carving meat. That same person has to stop and carve for delivery orders as well. Nearly 30 mins before we got to the served.Perhaps have more staff on? Especially on a Sunday
Weve used Anson Farm a few times over the past few years for a takeaway Sunday lunch. Lately it seems to be going downhill not getting what you ask for and today I ordered Beef and Gammon they put Turkey and Gammon i!! The Gammon was very fatty and they put burnt parsnips in, obviously they went in the bin!You need to check that you get everything you ask for as the last time we used them Id ordered pigs in blankets and didnt get them. By the time you get home you cant be bothered going back out again to them.
First time ordered food from this place using Deliveroo. Firstly, Sarah states I hadnt placed an order as they has stopped taken orders. I tried to explain, it has been over 40 minutes and I had nit received my food. She then took order number and said I picked the order up. She then said if someone from Deliveroo had taken my food, then I had ro take it up with Deliveroo. No help whatsoever. I never received the food and therefore, will need to dispute with bank. Very poor customer service and will never order food from here ever again. Quick to accept my order and take my money but fobbed me off when I asked about my order. The communication between Deliveroo and Anson Farm very poor.
Always lovely food, cavery is definitely worth visiting for! Vicky W was so friendly, and always asked if there was anything we needed. Will be back!
Had an amazing night for my sons birthday the staff were fab nothing was too much trouble even though it was very busy at the time staff still was amazing food was really really nice too along with the cake ! 😂 thank you x
Mick looked after me well. He promptly sorted a lunch table, which he then disinfected well. Advised Anson services available and mid meal very kindly went to the bar and quickly brought me water, which I very much appreciated. Thank you Mick, appreciated your speedy action.
If I could give 0 stars I would! The food we ordered was disgusting and mushy. Thankfully we got a refund but would never go back! 3 tables around us also sent their food back as well. Unbelievable how the place can be profitable with that quality of food and the amount of refunds they have to give out.
Ordered a all day breakfast beans were a bit dry. Even though they got the order wrong the sausage and hash brown were nice. Dessert was not the best with the order wrong again and the ice cream was more of in a slush form than cream. Might come back probably not the one in sunderland has higher standardsSecond time coming a lot better this time the curry was spot on and a very nice atmosphere the last time must have been a one off because it was brilliant this time
Very poor service. Sat in the wrong seats when we arrived as half of our party had already arrived so we were sat in separate areas for some reason... Queued for 45 minutes despite having a table booked... (Why have a booking system if walk ins are taken and told to queue straight awayThe cleanliness of the place in general was pretty questionable. Toys in the kids play area with about 5 layers of dust on them looked hideous. Then there was a huge lump of hair / dirt in the ice cream we were served for our child. Staff were slow and when we were leaving caught a quick glimpse of one of the cooking staff with the bin gates open having a quick cigarette. Its absolutely vile.I really cant believe this place is as popular as it is... its baffling.
Half decent carvery, half decent breakfast. The recent price hike is crazy and doesnt make the visit worthwhile when there are better quality and better value options nearby. Its not a good example of a Greene King pub.
Lovely place. My partner had the carvery and thought it was very good. I opted for the cheese and onion pie with chips which I enjoyed. We didnt have a desert but have to say the carrot cake looked fabulous. Reason for only 4 stars as thought music was a bit loud.
Good for families and offers a generous blue light card discount. The play area is what attracted us here, so that we could have a nice lunch whilst keeping the little one entertained.Good range of food at very reasonable prices. Portions are big and filling. Some nice flavours and I enjoyed my steak a lot. Fish was a tad greasy. Pie was lovely, and curry chips were good.Recommend for a chilled lunch with children. They provide play areas, colouring in sheets and crayons to keep the little ones occupied.
Great for all the family. Excellent food customer service and staff may I apologize for the mess left after my kids had a fun food fight on Saturday but the staff were courteous and even served us again the next day
The breakfast menu was affordable with sufficient choices to suit most appetites. They have full breakfast options but also had lighter offers such as bottomless tea and toast options for £1.99.Staff were super friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. There was plenty of seating. Everyone enjoyed their food. Recommend.
The food is excellent, generous portions and great prices. The service was fast and friendly. I highly recommended it if you’re in the area. The food is affordably priced, always delicious and clean. Superb service considering it was busy.Table service or order through the App.Desserts will knock your slippers off. All food and desserts were well beyond my expectations. This place knows how to satisfy their clients. Always with a super nice mindset.Carvery is good as well. You can dine in or take away. All well social distanced.
Stunning carvery, amazing value (even better with 50% offmassive desserts that no one could possibly finish, but at least you can take your leftovers home as trays are given. An enjoyable meal out.
Always fantastic food, lovely decor and atmosphere and a really good price too.The carvery lovely with a great range to choose from, much more than a Toby in my opinion! A good range of menu food and the desserts are to die for and absolutely huge!! Youll never be able to finish it, but they do take out boxes too! You can even just pop in and get your cakes boxed up to go. My advice, have a lovely dinner, then ask for your dessert to be boxed up and take it home and eat it when you have some room in your stomach :its only where youll end up eating at least half of it anyway if you do attempt to eat a big slab of cake straight after your food.
Amazing and delicious. I highly recommend this place as it is not often very busy and the food is prepared very quickly. This place is well known for its heavenly carvery, if you are here then I recommend the carvery, it is the best Ive ever had. The staff are very helpful and kind.
