Andu Café - Ethiopian restaurant in Bonga, Ethiopia
Food is fantastic and very cheap, you can easily spend less than £10. Food arrived within a minute or so and we finished it within another couple of minutes - so yummy.
Best birthday here last night! Amazing food, fun vibe and lovely family running the show💕Will be back soon!
first time trying ethiopian food and it was so good!! owners are nice too and cool that its BYOB
A small vegan place with huge platters. A really nice homely feel. You might be queueing outside because you cant book a table in advance but its worth it! The pictured platter was for 4 people and cost £48.
I ate here 3 times in 5 days once so yes. Very good. BYOB.
Excellent Ethiopian food served traditionally on injera and also in sharing platter form, super delicious and great service!
Lovely Ethiopian restaurant with friendly and competent staff, great food and very fairly priced, can only recommend
Delicious simple food. Provided quickly. Was great for a quick bite
I love this place. Honest and true people. No fuss. Good vegan food, cheap, no protein gimmick. Bring your own and cash only.
Fantastic experience and great food! I will definitely be coming again
My favourite take away in Dalston. Healthy and cheap! After a bad day yesterday, the owner was really kind and that makes the difference for a local business. Thank you!
The best ethiopian food in all of London and all the food here is vegan! The people that work here are all very very nice! But the food yo so good. Nice price on everything! I must return when visiting the city of London! Cash only no Apple Pay!
Very delicious vegan food! A great option to come in a group and share :)
A nice Ethiopian restaurant in the heart of Dalston. The service was really quick and the food was good. Not the best Ethiopian restaurant that I have been to, but definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area.
Good Ethiopian food. Flavors are mild but the portions are good. Get the platters to share! ByOB
Amazing food. Amazing food. AMAZING FOOD. Seriously. One of the best meals I remember. It is so simple yet the flavors are incredible.
Interesting vegan restaurant. Set menu options with various sizes to suit your party. Not licensed so bring your own alcohol. Soft drinks are available and quite inexpensive.
Super yummy traditional food and super fair price. You can feel the love ♡ the sharing plate is awesome.
I was honestly not impressed. The good was just ok nothing to write back home about. I had much better Ethiopian food. The service is seriously rude, not to me personally, to everybody. It feels like you have to beg to be served. I would avoid
Very tasty and super cheap, it comes fast. I had a very good experience as I never had Ethiopian in my life. However we saw a big cockroach on the wall.
Great food in a family-operated place with casual vibes. Simple and satisfying.
Had this place on my list for a while! The value of meals are great, same platter for all to choose the Sampler or Traditional (see menu pics).Food:We chose Traditional Large Platter (2-3 pplfor 2 of us. The food didnt taste very fresh (as with a few restaurantsand I would have loved more flavour (perhaps this is to cater for all, but Ive been to other Ethiopian food places to compare).A nice variety on the platter though and served in a great way! I did enjoy the injera.Drinks:Drinks include canned soft drinks and Jungle Juice from a fridge stand, the latter was delicious! Can otherwise BYOB.Payment:No breakdown if menu and cash only!Other:Visited near 6pm on a Wednesday and there were plenty empty spaces. When we left near 7.30pm, there was a queue outside the restaurant! Seems popular for locals.
Absolutely delicious food! We got the £6 take out box for lunch. Very reasonable and excellent, fast lunch option. Will be back again soon.
Really tasty vegan Ethiopian! Portions were hearty and it’s BYOB.
Delicious food. We ordered the 1-2 person portion which was massive, we couldnt finish it all. Great value for money.
Incredible Ethiopian platters, and large ones at that. Staff weren’t entirely approachable or friendly, but with food this good they can be forgiven. Satisfied my very vegan skeptical father.
Is was fine.I ate the whole thing. But, it wasn’t good as some other Ethiopian food I had before. The beans was watery and not mushy for some reason, the Engera was sooo thin and the whole thing was just not flavourful enough. I don’t know if it’s a case off differences coming from different part of the country but it didn’t feel authentic enough.Again I ate the whole plate because it was tasty but their is room for improvement.🌻
A great atmosphere is created at this cosy restaurant in Dalton. A cosmopolitan area of London. It got full quite quickly. A nice surprise too. VEGAN
Not enough good things to say about Andu. Its like an old friend having you over for a meal theyve made just for you - this place is a Dalston institution. Food is delicious and inexpensive. In a rush? Grab a takeaway for £5 and be on your way.
Amazing vegan food! Definitely would recommend! I just wish there was more options so I would go more often.
I only ever order-to-go but this is certainly a tasty, very reasonably priced, reliable place to grab a meal that also happens to be gluten free. I’m not vegan but have still been able to enjoy Andu’s authentic offering.
Lovely little restaurant! Its like someone inviting me to their house to eat, the people who work here are so friendly and sweet. And the food was delicious.
Have been a few times when in the area. Love it! Nice simple dishes, affordable and relaxed vibe. The traditional injera flatbread is so nice in the stomach (basically you wont get indigestion- very healthy. When the dishes arrive it doesnt look huge, but trust me on this - its really filling because its so nutritious. Tunes were good also. Note it is cash only.
I was going to give 1 star but I am giving 5 as I used to own a cafe and I know how hard it is to get the average back up as customers use reviews as ways to complain. I am kind of doing the same but I feel this needs to be addressed by the owner. Theres a waitress who works there whos really rude.I have been coming here for years and the owner is really lovely and the food is great (a bit too much oil perhaps but thats probably the way is served in Ethiopia).I have been treated with contempt in more than one occasion and with very rude manners.Although I find this quite refreshing if compare to the fakeness of some other places, I think there is a limit and this stopped me from going there.A couple of times I was reminded that the restaurant was going to close in half an hour, despite the fact I had already finished my meal and about to ask for the bill.During my last visit I saw and heard the waitress telling the customer to get up and get the water (taphimself...Now, I understand it is free but the drinks menu does not seem that appealing if there is such a thing, I dont even remember.I think you can BYOB but they do not encourage this too much.I am not going to go there in a while hoping the service will improve to an acceptable level rather than feeling almost under assault.
Good value for money: cheap and very good Ethiopian vegan food! Remember to bring cash (no card!and that this is BYOB (bring your alcohol!).
Reasonably priced good food. Can be a go-to eat out place as it felt healthy!
Food was amazing! no question about it. and great value and big portion for what you pay. The only disappointment is the service/server!When we entered the place and sat we asked for menu and were told since only type dish served, we can order for to people (the samplerso we didnt bother looking at the menu from the next table. we ordered 1x can of coke which should be around £1. when we asked to pay the server had told us £17 for two people (when it shouldnt have not been more than £12-13 for two people sampler dish plus 1x can of coke so £14 ish as is what I just found out is what my friends paid. Its not even about the £4 more I feel I had paid but I feel cheated by the server trying to pull one on us not giving receipt and telling us the amount to pay with words to whom I gave £20 with the change to keep.so words of advice. check the menu for the price if theres any price update and ask for a printed receipt.Edit: in response to the response by the owner:I appreciate the response and explanation. I understand now about the charge and have changed my rating. Like I said, I was having a conversation with friends about where I have been when one said they had an amazing food for £12 which is when I realised maybe I paid more. Maybe when someone asks for a menu, if one Isnt available as all priced the same like we were told, an offer of the two (a sampler for two for £12 or a traditional platter for £16would help first time customers understand whats available and choose which we were not offered. The food is amazing and I will definitely comeback.
This place is an Ethiopian restaurant that is beloved by the locals. As we were nearby, we decided to take away their Sampler of 6 different dishes and Injera. The sampler of dishes including lentils, peas, and vegetables tasted ok but nothing special. We have never tried Injera but it did taste weird and too sour for our liking. The sampler and injera were only £5 which was very cheap, however, I wouldnt say the value is excellent as the food was average. It was quite a small restaurant although it seems cozy and the owner seems nice as well.
The restaurant is small but nice insideThe service lady seemed niceThe food was a serious let down, no flavour. I seriously expected more in taste. This was my first time eating Ethiopia food but I dont believe Ethiopia food is this tasteless.
Been a few times before, but today experienced the worst service, which was disappointing. Was made to wait outside in the cold for 15 mins, we were then seated in a forgotten part of the restaurant, having had no one else leave and with 4 tables free. Our order wasnt taken for another 10 mins. Our portions were small in comparison to other Ethiopian places in the area... For £20 they could definitely pile on the lentils 😂No cutlery was brought to us but was to tables around us, and when we paid she didnt give us our change back!!
Went here on Monday 20th of September and loved the food so decided to go back on Wednesday 22nd.. midway thru my meal I found a dead cockroach in my food🤮 so Im wondering if I ate some cockroach on Monday as well.
First time trying Ethiopian food and was really excited. Only decided on vegan for a friend who only eats vegan food. Cash only restaurant. I was surprised by the limited options of food and although the platter was tasty I was hoping for a bit more of a kick and flavour. I feel like this was tailored for European palates as it seemed very tame and this was the restaurants main demographic although it is run by bona-fide Ethiopians. Not a fan of the injeera as its sour, maybe Im used to my Somali friends sabayaat so this took me by surprise.Dont think I will be returning but was nice to give it a try.
Great Ethiopian food! I always loved injera and this one doesnt disappoint. Very vinagry and tasty.I also like that you have ONE option (in small or large sizeand the staff just brings it to you straight away. Service is quick and practical. And they are not hoovering over you.Not very spicy. Four different dishes: one more spicy and the other three very mild. But all very tasty.Would come again!
Delicious vegan Ethiopian food! The flavours were delicious and everything tasted so fresh. The takeaway box is very good value for money. We had one box with rice and the other with Injera. This place is cash only, there’s a cash point not too far away!
Nice little restaurant. BYOB, friendly staff and good value for money.Sharer came with 3 different curries and vegetables. Nice balance of flavours to each, all worked nicely with the (slightly vinegaryflat bread. Food was £7 (cheaper if you eat out).Staff were very good at making sure masks were on when surrounding/speaking to customers and there was plenty of hand sanitiser around (front desk and on each table)
They have their own formula of fixed menu (for about 7£/personand BYOB. They basically have only one meal which is a sample of some Ethiopian food. You can choose to have rice or Ethiopian bread with it, Id suggest to go for the bread which is the traditional one. 🇪🇹 The only problem was the super strong incense, like very very strong.
Small and packed, definitely a popular little place where you get plonked down and asked if you are eating bread or rice. I went for rice and got the sampler. If you want a drink bring it along with you, theres only water. For £7 I had an interesting vegan meal but unless you are young and trendy its not the greatest experience ever: I was in and out in about 25 minutes😂.
Great place for simple vegan food that taste really good. Nice friendly people and BYOB, whats not to like.
LOVE this place. Inexpensive really tasty authentic food to share. YES. Ive been to quite a few of these restaurants but this is actually one if the best. Great price and food to satisfy anyones hunger. All vegan and only god know what they do to their green vegetables. So ooooo tasty. You should go go go! If you dont fancy eating in, then you can always take out.The decor is nothing much to be admired (hence the 4 stars and not 5but Im more about the food than whats on the walls. The service is grand and not too slow..You have a very small selection of wine and beer. But to be honest with you, this isnt that kind of place. Its about the home cooking and chilled vibes. If you fancy a drink then there are many places close by that you can walk to after a very enjoyable vegan meal that you just shared with someone you love. Happy days!
Phenomenal food with a home kitchen vibe. Serve yourself drinks and wait for the only item on the menu. You won’t be disappointed.
