1615 Thameside pub serving food in bar and restaurant, with real ale and outdoor seating.
Anchor Bankside in George
Description
Great ambient, inside, outside, really nice place! Little bit less nice food (stake pie), but Hamburger should be good!
MoreGreat place to visit for a quick drink - a small snack, and view the beautiful surroundings.
MoreVisited more times already, always satisfied, very nice atmosphere and great beer and drinks, GinTonic Kingdom!👍🍻🍾🥂🍸🥃 Also super garden with amazing river view!✌️🌊🌞 A lot of memories, this is simply a must to visit!😉👏
MoreLovely pub, fantastic views. Lots of seats available - try to go to rooftop garden, there is only 2 tables facing the river but they are amazing 😻
MoreLovely pub inside, its Greene King and although one of the very big chains, they do keep pubs looking like pubs very often, and this one is full of character. The layout is complex and rambling, which makes it fun and interesting. Very busy even on a Sunday, they could have opened more than one bar and had more staff on. One of the bottled beers wasnt available, but we enjoyed our visit, nice pub to have there by the river.
MoreBest fish and chips that I have ever had!! With great view to the Thames
Was surprised by how big this place is. I can’t imagine you never being able to get a table, even at the most busiest times. The food was what you expect from a pub, nothing out of the ordinary. For reference, the beef burger was £13.99. The pub has some good isolated spaces if you want your own quiet place. We really appreciated that there was a bar upstairs and downstairs. Food came quickly but wasn’t very hot. Overall a good pub to go to if you want a cozy chat or a view of the Thames. The views are very pretty at night!!
MoreA very quaint pub! It has character. Theres loads of seating upstairs & if you have a group of 7+ you can book a room all for all your mates and enjoy drinks and food. The food is good, but some items maybe out of stock, so check on the Greene King App. Speaking of food, you can order at the counter, but best of all you can order through the Greene King App, its pretty straight forward. Just remember to set your location to the right pub, note down your table number and thats it. Order to your hearts content, table service for you! As a Londoner, I consider this as my local, love it! ❤️
MoreGreat spot to enjoy the evening with a drink and views to the riverside.
Great spot to grab a pint, one of the better waterfront pubs in London! Close to the Underground as well.
MoreA nice pub just a few minutes from the Globe Theater. A good variety of beer and sides / meal options. They also have a riverfront sitting area.
MoreOrdered the onion rings as a side. Got only three tiny, moist, sad pieces of what passes for food. Not only did I ask your staff if this was truly the intended portion, but I was told it was in fact, always three rings per portion. I have a hard time believing this adds up to the 398 kcal advertised on your menu. A quick Google search tells me a 276 kcal portion should be 8-9 onion rings. Lovely!
MoreFirst time in an Anchor restaurant and you have to go. Amazing food service. Some foods and drinks tasted melted in other mouths. From the starter to the dessert the quality and tastes of everything were outstanding, fish and chips, Pizza❤️ and sticky toffee might have been the best meal I had while in London bridge area. Highly recommend!👌
MoreThis is such a great venue for a casual drink or more and food. The place has a ton of character and is just wonderful to get stuck into. So many different angles inside and out. Dont miss if youre Bankside or nearby. You will not be disappointed with this great old pub. Top drawer.
MoreThis is my traditional stop in London every year since a decade now. I brough friends and family in here. They are always charmed by the place. This typical pub along the Tamise is lovely and the staff is very friendly. The dishes are exquisite and the terrace is a great place when the sun is out. Thank you and see you soon !
MoreA beautiful pub right by the Thames and near Borough Market. If youre outside, youll have River views; inside is the most beautiful pub from 1615. Exposed beams, a good collection of drinks, with a decent food menu, not overbearing.
MoreWe popped in for a drink on a Tuesday early evening - I would say that 80% of the tables were reserved which was very frustrating and unusual for a London pub ( not resturantmake sure you check the reservation times on the sheets as the table we sat at was reserved for 8pm - it was 6pm when we say down, so plenty of time for the person that had reserved. There was plenty of staff on and they were friendly and quick to serve. We had 3 bottled ciders and it came to £19 to be expected I guess for Southbank/London. Beautiful building inside and out.
MoreSpectacular fish and chips. Triple cooked chunky chips and a fish done perfectly are a brilliant pairing for any summers day. Service is what it is being akin to a Wetherspoons but table was cleared upon seating and had food out quickly. The roof top deck is well worth walking up to try grab a seat outside in.
MoreNot bad, but a bit hectic. We sat in the outdoor area and its a really lovely set up, but I found the wait for something simple (a scoop of ice cream for the kidsreally very long.If I could change anything, it would have been to just make simple stuff easier to get. Thats not to say that drinks were not easy, that was very straightforward based on the fact its a bar.
MoreGreat spot by the River Thames to stop, grab a bite of food and drink on a sunny day out in London. We were pleasantly surprised by the fish and chips, excellent portion and perfectly cooked. The pizza was ok, but this is a great spot to have a few drinks and take in the glorious view by the river.
MoreTop burgers (meat and vegan), nice selection of beers 🍻, very clean and authentic interior. Very pleasant and positive staff.
MoreMostly self-serve pub on the bank of the Thames. You have to get your own water, order at the bar and they deliver. Food portion is huge (order the small fish & chipsor share a large unless you are VERY hungry.
MoreReally interesting pub on the south bank of the Thames. Historical, on several floors with a roof garden to. Quite a big pub overall. Good selection of beer. Good menu. Prices ok, cheaper than you might expect for its location.
MorePretty decent place, location is lovely and the vibe is absolutely smashing! This review is well overdue since I visited back in 2019. I hope to get back again in the summer.
MoreViews (see picand a beautiful old pub with a modern bit next to the river.Good selection of drinks, great people watching, and, as said before... Views.
MoreIf you want to eat a classic, enormous, fish and chips, this is your place. Nice location.
MoreMy sister and I absolutely loved our visit here Friday. Outside area was large and perfect for a sunny day, drinks were very reasonable for London and the staff were super friendly. Would highly recommend a visit and we will definitely be back!
MoreIn the light of the setting sun right after a short drizzle, this place looks heavenly.
MoreGreat little old school pub, lovely food friendly staff, a little wait for dessert but other than that was a good experience would definitely return
MoreNice food, roast was good and drinks reasonably priced, service was great, main course came quick. Only little complaint was we waited quite a long time for childrens pudding other than that a good visit and would return again.
MoreNice pub with a big outside area, lots of space on a busy Friday night. Surprised by how early they called last orders but otherwise it was fine. Very nice in the daytime in the sunshine with beautiful views over the river.
MoreGood and tasty food with a fair price. The location is easy to find, and the place itself is huge! I’ve found the service really nice. Would definitely go again next time I’m in London.
MoreGreat pub, lovely views. Shame for the plastic trays the food comes in (hope they get recycled..).
MoreAmazing place ❤️I love this atmosphere, the people who work there.Another advantage is good music.See you soon 😎😉
MoreSunshine and drinks cant go wrong. Nice staff and good drinks 🍸Tried snacks and the spicy Halloumi was so good. Lot of people and nice wibe
MoreService on the outside is a complete disaster. We waited for 1 hour for chips and it didnt come. Finally we had to ask for a refund. even though we told the waiters 3 times that we were just waiting for a simple chips. The person reading this review should go to better places and not come here.
MoreBeautiful location! Lovely outside area overlooking the Thames.Very reasonable if not cheap prices for London and good food however when I ordered a full bodied house red wine I ended up with a fruit juice type of wine so be more specific and when I had the steak ordered as rare it had practically walked off a field onto my plate and a little cold too....All other food and experiences have been great though....Bare in mind if eating outside that plastic boxes and cups is whats on offer - totally understandable as outside but not great if having a meal at lunch with friends. However the anchor is still one of nmy favourite bars!
MoreAbsolute favourite of ours! Love vast drink and food selection, busy every day of the week, amazing views of London. What more could you ask for? Great for any occasion - I love coming here for after work drinks, bring family for roast or just entertain some clients. So versatile! LOVE ANCHOR!
MoreVery old pub lots of background history good atmosphere decent drinks selection the bar meal food is average.
MoreLovely food and a lovely location. People want to sit outside for the view of the Thames but its so oldy worldly inside, and cool temperature so it was a refreshing lunch when so warm outside.
MoreThe most overpriced sausage roll you will ever see. £5.99 for approximately 5cm of lacklustre pastry and lukewarm mystery meat (chips not included. Over £1 per bite. Very upsetting. I am hurt and I’m not sure how I will ever get over this betrayal
MoreA really nice bar, large but with lots of small corners and places to sit. Love the placement too. Enjoyed their berry cider, Old mout cider a lot.
MoreGreat place for beer and delicious food near to the river! Recommend for everyone when who stay in London! 👌
MoreWonderful pub located on the Bankside of the Thames, a stones through away from London Bridge Station, a quick walk from Borough Market with St Paul’s in the foreground. Very busy inside when we visited (on a Saturday afternoonso we had drinks on the terrace overlooking the river (next door to Nando’s).. Good atmosphere (with a live bandand plenty of chatter and buzz in the air.. Little pop up bar on the terrace. Drink choice ok. Think I paid £6.50 for a plastic pint cup of lager - but that’s quite typical pricing for London, so all in all a great visit. They had free Wi-Fi and reportedly clean toilets on our visit as well. They may have also served food, but we didn’t have any. The one staff we did come into contact with was friendly enough and service was quick. Would return in the not-so-distant future!!
MoreOne of the best located pubs around, short walk from a few stations, Borough Market, Shakespeares Globe Theatre, The Tate Modern, and the list goes on.So if you are visiting the area, and fancy a drink in a pub with a bit of history, The Anchor is probably the place for you. William Shakespeare and Samuel Pepys are supposed to have drank here, and is it really surprising given the view is probably as good, if not better than it was hundreds of years ago!Outside seating is available but given its winter at the time of this review and the blisteringly cold wind rattles down the Thames we sat inside in the warm. Seating can be a bit tough for choice in these conditions as everyone had the same idea as us.A pre-booking elsewhere prevented us from eating, however catching a glimpse of the pies they were serving surely means Ill be back for a visit when Im in the area next.
MoreLovely staff and quick service but uncertain about quality of food and drink...I ordered battered halloumi which came out of the kitchen within 5 minutes! It was soggy and undercooked and I could not finish the dish.I also ordered a £4 glass of lemonade which was flat and tasted cheap. Funnily enough, this arrived 5 minutes after my food.
MoreFood is good, nice atmosphere and fast service. Quite empty on a Tuesday night. The beer...not so nice, according to my bf
MoreOne of my favourite pubs I’ll always come here once a while really fantastic place to come. The pub have good food and drinks just perfect place to stay with family or friends.
MoreVery pleasant Riverside pub. Decent in size with outside bar. Prices as expected for the area. Food was good. Tom cruise filmed mission impossible at this pub.
MoreStopped in here after ac long walk from Hammersmiths, to Westminster, back down the south bank. Delicious steak, and the people were the friendliest.Definitely coming back here! They deserve more than 5 stars
