MoreHistorical and Religious Place. One of the Famous Pagoda in Myanmar.
They said you cant come to Bagan without visit Ananda temple as its important landmark and with a great history. It look different than the other temples the architecture and even the exterior color I didnt saw in bagan.Inside there is huge golden Buddha status looks like each of them on different direction.Inside also alot and alot of small Buddha status groved in the wall and also you can see a place where the people donate money.I like my visit there and I recommend to put in your list for the temple which you have to visit in bagan and dont forget there more than 4000 temple in this area so you need to make your choice .
MoreOne of the most beautiful temples (facade and architectural-wisethat you can visit in Bagan.
MoreI dont think I can add much to previous comments about the history or atmosphere of this place, other than to say that each temple, pagoda, or even small shop that I visited in Burma was fascinating. There is such beauty even in the seemingly everyday, mundane things. The Ananda temple specifically is easy to spot even from a long way away, and sunsets and sunrises are astonishingly beautiful. The photos included here were taken in 2007.
MoreOne of the famous Temple of Lord Buddha in Bagan. Amazing architecture. If your tour is to Bagan you must visit this Temple. Historical Temple. Renovated by Indian government after earthquake damage.
MoreThis temple is different then the other Pagoda because the only one with the statue is standing up.
MoreBagan is just one of those places that continuously leaves you in awe Ananda Temple is no exception. It was a really magical experience today as a whole group of school children sat and recited their Buddhist prayers. Very magical
MoreYet another beautiful twelfth century temple in Bagan. What attracted my attention to this one were the tops of the structure, all with heavy and well-maintained gilding that gleams in the sun. There are a couple of markets outside its walls that cater to locals and to tourists.
MoreOne of the more impressive temples in Bagan. Well preserved and maintained. Can walk around all 4 sides on both the interior and exterior of the temple. Lots of vendors near major entrances selling food, beverages and souvenirs. Exterior views are more impressive than interior in my opinion. Worth a visit!
MoreOne of the famous Temple in Bagan. That pagoda fastival is fall in full mon day of January.
MoreActually my favourite of all temples. Its has quite a special structure. Impressive Buddha statues
MoreThe most beautiful temple in bagan, it is a newly restored temple ,at least one hour is required to be spent in this temple.
MoreBeautiful inside and outside. Though I recommend going very early as after 7am it gets busy and by early afternoon there was many bus loads of very loud and obnoxious Chinese tourist who were not at all respectful towards Buddhist culture.Disappointing to visit a place where tourist are so disrespectful.***I must say the Chinese have to learn to show respect and behave accordingly!!!
MoreHas a nice spacious court yard with trees for the heat, would make more sense for the hawkers to be there and drink stall maybe?.l Could do with some more historical iformation also.
MoreBeatiful Buddhism temple in Bagan. 100% recommendation.
The most stunning temple in the otherwise stunning area. The beige accented with red and gold looks amazing and can also be seen from quite a distance.
MoreThe most beautiful architecture in Bagan. It was built in 13 century
The Ananda temple is one of Bagan’s best known and most beautiful temples. It was one of the first great temples to be build in Bagan and is well preserved. The temple is found near the Tharabar gate, the only gate remaining of the original 12 in the old Bagan city walls. The Ananda Pagoda, also named Ananda Pahto and Ananda Phaya is a single storey structure built towards the end of the early Bagan period. The architectural style shows Mon and North Indian influence. The temple’s most distinctive feature is the gilded sikhara, the tower like spire on top of the pagoda. The reflection of the gilded sikhara is visible from miles away over the Bagan plains. After dark the Ananda Pagoda is lit up by spotlights creating a mystical atmosphere. The Ananda was damaged during the 1975 earthquake, and has been extensively restored since then.
MoreAvery impressive Temple and surrounding grounds. A must see among the main structures to be on your list and visited when in Bagan.
MoreOne of the famous and well maintained temples of Bagan. Well worth a visit as part of your temple tour.
MoreDescribed to us as the most beautiful temple in Bagan. It does not disappoint. It has received much attention and restoration. Besides the architecture, the huge amount of original statues is impressive.
MoreThis temple is just outside the walls of old Bagan and part of the newly proclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is well worth a visit because of the four large Buddha statues which are facing in four different directions, east, south, north and west. There are beautiful murals in this 13th century structure.
MoreThe famous temple of Bagan - and one of the big ones on the tourist circuit. This one has many sculptures of Buddha and other gods, displayed in the walls of the pagoda. The glass is not very clean so hard to appreciate them fully. Also, some more write up would be nice. Very interesting temple as it has a museum feeling about it. Many paintings from the local artisans will feature this temple’s golden spire.
MoreOne of the biggest, best and most popular temples, both for tourists and worshippers. Built by King Kyansittha in 1091 with four huge 10m standing Buddah facing each of the four entrances. Also fascinating (but poorly cared forare eighty reliefs of Buddahs life from birth to enlightenment. There is a lot to see and know so its worth engaging one of the guides who offer a tour around this temple. Also walk around outside to see the huge carvings on the exterior.
MoreBagans main temple, and one of the first that will make you wish footwears are allowed inside temples; the grounds could get very hot in the afternoon! Explore the outside of the temple, and then get inside to get a proper grasp of the scale of this great building.
MoreA very strong 5 STAR to Ananda Temple and the management team for maintaining the beauty of this temple. Had visited many temples in Myanmar and Ananda (besides Shwedagonis so well kept despite being open to public. Unique, majestic and filled with many wonderful architectural or religious designs on roofs, pillars, columns etc. So serene, so awesome and so breathtakingly beautiful..

MoreBeautiful nice temple in Bagan, nice for sunrise and sunset view
As my driver said this pagoda are most beautiful in Bagan.
This temple was built more than 900 hundred years ago but it looks dry new. I restoration was made no long ago which cost 1 millions usd (aprox)
MoreMust see. I would give it 6 stars if I could. Ive been to many Buddhist temples from Cambodia, Java, Thailand and Vietnam but this is by far the most ornate. Start from the North to see the original statue from when the temple was built. Note the Indian features on the Buddha and the face changes from different distances. Then go around and see the Buddha face change with Burmese (squarishand later Chinese (sharpish, small eyesfeatures. Our guide, Ya Ye Ye was phenomenal for the nominal fees we paid.
MoreThis early 12th century temple is probably the most famous one in Bagan. It has been completely restored after the 1975 earthquake and is maintained in impeccable condition. It uses a fusion of traditional Burmese and Indian architecture. Its spires have also been recently guilded.
MoreDefinitely one of the most beautiful, if not the most of the Bagan Temples. Especially my friend, this old tree! I loved to see her. Take care and wear long pants and take off your shoes before enter.
MoreIts a very beautiful temple - the colour, the surroundings, the interior, the carving. We cant get enough of it. Its a romantic place, it makes you think what it would feel like living in this part of the world, during that time period.
MoreAnanda Pagoda is my favourite pagoda in Bagan. The architecture is absolutely stunning and there are four massive Buddha statues in the temple. It is a great place to take photographs.
MoreMy favorite temple of all in Bagan. Love the architecture it’s beautiful and elegant
MoreMy personal #1 in Bagan. This temple is the most beautiful. Found a pond with fishes, and some squirrels around, shared some biscuits with them (to improve my karma))
MoreThe most Beautiful temple in Bagan. It is one of four surviving temples in Bagan.
MoreBeautiful white temple. Many stories inside as well. Must visit.
Inside and around Ananda Temple: The Westminster Abbey of Myanmar. The Buddhist temple houses four standing Buddhas, each one facing the cardinal direction of East, North, West and South. This is a very old temple. You can walk one round inside the temple. Along the walkway you can see many Windows.. of which most of them have a Buddhas statue inside. You have to walk around the temple too as the architecture of this temple is also very beautiful. Unlike the other temples.. This one is fairly white in colour rather than the earth colour. This is a must go temple. You should miss this one. The compound outside is also very big.
MoreAnanda Temple was build by King Kyanzittha since 1105 AD. Its a full of art in whole temple. its a good place to imagine that about ancient peoples. you can see a lot of stone craft , ancient painting arts. Its a place that i want to live for a week or a month again.
MoreUnmissable. Extensive restoration programme underway but large parts are complete. If you visit only one temple in Bagan, this should be it.
MoreAmazing old but well preserved and restored Pagoda. Careful not to trip over people who start praying in the hallway. And if you like you can (but dont have tobut gold leave to put on the Buddha statue for good luck. Salespeople are friendly and not intrusive. The walls are so thick it is very cool inside and your phone wont work :the 4 main Buddha statues are always in light due to cleverly placed light holes in the walls.
MoreJust arrived back from there. Its my 2nd visit . This temple is beautiful and amazing its one of the most surviving masterpiece of the Mon architecture. Also known as the finest, largest, best preserved and most revered of the Bagan temples.
