Over 3,500 pieces of pre-Columbian, 19th-century viceroyal & contemporary art, plus guided tours.
A medium-sized modern museum located in a colonial palatial residence. Mostly precolonial art but also some modern art on display. Free everyday due to the pandemic, and consequently masks are required. A nice restaurant and bar are located on the roof with magnificent views of the Historic Center of the city.
Amazing musuem with several expositions and very modern, the terrace is a must.
Really liked this little museum. The signage is all in Spanish so it took me a while to go through the exhibits. I was using a translation app, which was very intensive so I was very tired before I finished all the exhibits.
Amazing displays, artefacts etcRooftop views are amazing. Restaurant at the top is superb.
Crazy that this is rated 4.7. There’s only one reason to visit this museum and that’s the roof terrace. The rest is a boring mess.
This is a very traditional museum in Puebla city, Depicts the colonial and pre revolutionary era of the old city in its collections. The highlight of the place is found in the bottom and first level of it.On the other hand, the modern presentations found in here are dull and dont represent anything of relevance from a contemporary point of view, besides the most overexploited lusciousness towards drug dealers and daily gore that you can find in Mexico. Nothing worthy of a museum with such a rich history like this one.
Great museum and it is for FREE!Unfortunately there are no English descriptions for most displays especially the "tour" with all the prehispanic relics are only described in Spanish. There are English texts for some displays though.
Huge museum with interesting art exhibits! I went on a day when admission was free, so it was pretty busy. Stopping by the rooftop is a must! The views are incredible and there is plenty of seating outside. Unfortunately, it was raining the day of my visit, but I still managed to walk around the rooftop once the rain lightened up.
Amazing multi-continent timeline stretching back to what was pre-history! Near the large entrance area, you will go out into a courtyard & the wall on your right side will be the archeological timeline--start looking at the far left & progress to the present day....amazing.
I didnt give them 5 stars. I felt intimidated because the employees are following you very close, it was uncomfortable, if they are afraid of people getting near the works of art then they should not let people in.
Puebla has no shortage of beautiful rooftops and lovely museums, this has to be one of its best. Absolutely top-notch exhibits, can’t believe it’s in such a small town and was FREE :0 ❤️
Favourite museum in Puebla. Mesoamerican and contemporary art.
Lovely building, especially the rooftop, and an interesting mixture of ancient artefacts, modern and classical art.The only thing I didnt like was the *extremely* vigilant, even if pleasant, guards - I have rarely felt so closely watched in any museum anywhere. With CCTV everywhere I think its possible to show a little more trust in your visitors.
Amazing , must see.Free entrance during Sundays.Must go to the terrace.
Wonderful art museum with excellent exhibitions. The building itself is modern and beautiful. But the best part may be the rooftop cafe. The food there is reasonably priced and very good, and the view is one of the best in Puebla.
Hardly any texts in English!Beautiful museum with lots of prehispanic art. You could spend 2 hours here. A very interesting part on the language and hieroglyphics. Also has a part with contemporary art and an app that provides extra information and audio. Mostly in Spanish though
Fasinating museum. From modern to anthropolgy. We spend 3 hours and could have lingered longet at many of the exhibits.
Great museum experience. Slightly long for my taste, but I’m just a man at the end of the day. Nice assortment of exhibits to tickle any fancy. Great cafe on the rooftop for a relaxing beverage post-wander.
Great museum, you can see few exhibition. It wasnt too busy (but we came in first hour), very safe with all COVID-19 measures. Free entrance! Great roof terrace with amazing views.
The museum has great wheelchair accessibility, which was actually somewhat rare in Puebla. There are two elevators and stair lifts when needed. It wasnt our most favorite museum, but there is quite an assortment of modern art, ancient artifacts, and photography that is still interesting to explore.
Fantastic collection, free on Monday, possibly Sunday as well. Great mix of archeological pieces, contemporary art, and photography. The rooftop has a stunning view of the historic center. Seeing the large antique books in the library is worth a visit in its own.I recommend to go near opening to beat the crowds on the free days. 1.5-2.5 hours to visit, depending on speed.
If youre going to see only one museum in Puebla, this is the one. Great collection. My favorite was the aerial photography collection. Rooftop views are breathtaking. The collections were organized in a very interesting way and the staff was great at welcoming and navigating me to the different rooms. Thank you Mueseo Amparo crew.
A thoroughly enjoyable museum set within a beautiful building. Thoughtfully showcased and extraordinarily preserved artifacts, this is an absolute must-see in Puebla. In my experience one of the best museums in Mexico, which says a lot.
What stunning museum! Can everybody going to Puebla highly recommend going here. The exhibition provides a great overview of (Mexicanhistory and how it relates to world history. The museum’s terrace is beautiful and has a unique view
Spent 1 hour here. So much to see in one day. The collection is 👌
An amazing museum which is often overlooked and underrated. For anyone interested in discovering pre-Columbian civilizations of Mexico this museum is a must. The view from the rooftop is stunning. The best part is that this museum is free and they follow covid19 precautions perfectly! Amazing experience
Another must see in Puebla, Im not a big fan of museums but this one was surprisingly good. Dont forget to go to the terrace for the view.
Fantastic museum that is worth to visit both for the art exhibitions and for the building itself. The building was recently renovated by the highly praised architect Enrique Norten and offers a wonderful example of how a traditional building can interact with a modern style architectural intervention. Be sure to go to the roofgarden. Wonderful location, great views and overall pretty nice place. Worth a visit. Fantastic place to host a cocktail or event.
The museum is perfect mix of colonial and modern architecture, the views from the roof garden are amazing!A must for everyone visiting Puebla!
Great museum. Three floors of exhibits. Restaurant and rooftop Terrance on top level. Really enjoyed the exhibits of the Afro Latinos, Magdalena Fernandez Ecos, and Jose Davila.
Review is only for the cafe. Fantastic space with an amazing roof top for admiring Puebla. Try to get there at sunset for the full effect. That said, the service was horrendous. Everyone from security to the waitstaff to the ticket lady downstairs (who yes, charges you 35 pesos to get to the cafewere disinterested and just awful from a customer service perspective.
this is a must-do for the Puebla trip. wonderful collections of pre-Hispanic on one side and modern arts on the other. entrance fee is about $2 USD. the exhibitions are extremely well done. the layout and organization make perfect sense. i especially loved the section on mayan glyphs. its not a huge museum but you can easily spend 3 hours there. be sure to see the roof top patio!
Incredible. One of the best MesoAmerican museums Ive ever been to. The layout and organization of the ancient American artifacts is top class. Highly recommend.
I used the English audio tour and admit I had trouble telling where I was in the museum and how to navigate on the device. The pre-Columbian exhibit is excellent. I dont care for contemporary art and nothing in this exhibitions changed my opinion. The terrace though is itself worth the price of admission.
Excelente place with a great collection of artifacts from the civilizations and empires of Mexico.Great setting and the staff is always willing to help you, the views from the restaurant are nice, we didnt eat there because the limited menu at the time. You can admire all the well explained artifacts and even the furniture has some history...there is no parking, but you can find space on the streets or pay parking lots
For starters its not English friendly. There were 5 exhibitions when we went 3 were to way out for us. 1 was the artifacts which is ok but not much fun without Spanish. The other was a photograph exhibition which was good. If you Have been to Mona in Tasmania and loved it then this is for you. Otherwise give the blue carpet a miss!!
This large museum has no idea what it wants to be, so it includes modern art as well as ancient Mexican pottery. Two areas make up for pretension elsewhere: 1the ancient Mexican galleries on the first floor, and 2the rooftop, which has spectacular views of the city. (February 2018)
A great museum in the heart of downtown Puebla that’s completely free. Don’t miss the rooftop cafe, which also serves breakfast and brunch, for some views of the city.
Fantastic museum with mesoamerican art pieces from 2000 years ago as well as a interesting contemporary art exhibit. The museum itself is actually quite beautiful and there is a coffee shop on the very top of the museum which has amazing views of the city.
Lovely restored building that boasts a fabulous rooftop patio and restaurant. cutting edge contemporary and pre-Colombian exhibitions in comfortable modernized galleries. not to be missed.
Very nice collection of mezoamerican art. Audio guide was enjoyable and useful. View from the rooftop cafe was great.
A little hughe surprise in plain downtown Puebla. The museografy is great, the place is awesome, I loved how they managed to rebuild and modernize this building.
Beautiful place, you can learn a lot and everything is awesome if you like history like me
Beautiful museum with a nice terrace on the top, the view is amazing you can see few churches and the famous Puebla Cathedral. Its also possible to eat and have a drink there. The prehispanic collection is really interesting.
Excellent museum, cafe, and gift shop. Loved the wall mural with the timeline of civilization.
Highly recommend for anyone who likes anthropology, archeology and history. The museum It is free to the public. The first floor hosts a tremendous pre-colonial collection. The second floor contains a group of colonial period artifacts and displays. The second and third floors also house additional galleries with other exhibits, it was the photography of Paz Errázuriz while I was there. On the roof is a cafe and patio area with some nice views of the Puebla skyline. A good grasp of Spanish will help get the most out of the museum and I didnt get the audio tour so I dont know if there is an English version. The gift shop on the first floor has some nice books, upscale crafts and jewelery as well. This is a fantastic museum.
Stunning museum in Puebla, must visit if in town. Full of plenty of pre Colombian art and Aztec. Also a large collection of contemporary Mexican art. Visually stunning and minimalist design. Beautiful views of the city from the rooftop. Cafe located on the upper level as well.
Beautiful space. Learned a lot via the excellent audio guide. The timeline comparing events in different places/cultures around the world was excellent. And don’t miss the rooftop garden and cafe—excellent views and nice relaxing space.
The collection are good and the architecture is modern but creative. Theres a beautiful Terrace with awesome views of those cathedrals of Puebla
Very nice place to grab a drink and enjoy the views. You have to pay the museum entrance fee to get there as far as i know.
