I have been to this restaurant several times before. My first review was very positive (about 4 years ago). But what I have found after going there several times is that food taste is not consistent. With South Indian food, sometimes it is excellent, sometimes is it so so. Today it was actually not good. Dosa crepe did not have a normal taste, and it tasted plain. The potato filling did not have normal taste either and sambar tasted more like a dal (with some chili powder added to it after cooking it). However, the terrible dish was pani puri. Initially they gave me only puri and the soup (pani), and not any side dishes. Pani had terrible taste that it was difficult to eat. I can taste water separate from the spices. I asked why there are no sides such as potato or tamarind sauce, so they brought me Dosa filling instead, but the soup was still not edible. So I asked for a lemon, and put some lemon juice in Pani to make it more edible. Even though I still didn’t like it I finished it as I don’t like to waste food. There is no reason to put a dish on the menu when you don’t have some of the main ingredients. It is tempting to put such item on menu because it is easy to buy ready-made puni and pani masala at a store , but it is not fair to customers if you don’t put any additional effort to make it proper. Customers go out to restaurants expecting at least some level of authenticity but it is not right if they can’t even eat it just because restaurant did not put any effort and omitted main ingredients. Also previously only once I had a ordered North Indian dish at this restaurant and it was terrible, so I never ordered any North Indian food again at this place. I don’t know if it was one time issue, but I didn’t take any chance again as there are many other good North Indian restaurants in Taipei. I hope that the restaurant is more consistent with its main specialty, South Indian dishes.

The best Indian food Ive had in Taiwan! Has lots of South Indian dishes you wont find elsewhere - including dosa and idli, as well as Chettinadu curry and chicken 65. Worth the visit, and is also available on Uber if you dont want to go out!

Nice South Indian restaurant (Most of Indian restaurants in Taipei serve North Indian cuisine).Pani Puri and Dosa tasted crispy and great. Curry was only all right, it tasted like it only contains meat and curry without using other vegetables and ingredients.

We, two people, ordered one dosa, one paneer curry, two rice, two cups of milk chai. It took more than twenty minutes before we got the food. The bill was over NTD 800, and the cashier charged us service fee twice. For two people, I wouldnt recommend.

Worst food I have ever had. Used cheap tricks like watered down chutneys and extremely low quantities of sambhar with the food. Idlis were hard too.

Same issues was giving more importance and extra benefits for the big group and even told us to move to other table just because of the other group. Overpriced. Charging way too much for masala dosa.

My rating would be higher, but I looked in the kitchen and saw that the chefs were not wearing a mask properly. Their masks were under their nose and chin while cooking, which I find unacceptable during a pandemic.I have been here before and enjoyed it though. The food is delicious, but the waiter couldnt answer basic questions about what was in the dishes. I asked clearly if there were bell papers in the food because I dont eat them, and when the food came it was full of bell peppers. If you have food allergies or dont like something, you may need to show a picture.

Go there for only South Indian delicacies. One and only most authentic South Indian restaurant in Taipei. Highly recommend it. It’s simple small restaurant so you may have to bear with average service but I guarantee the South Indian food will compensate for the service. Highly recommend it 😊@owner- authentic biryani you make on the weekends are really good but small suggestion will be to increase the quality and also to add some chicken breast pieces. You give only one leg piece which does not justify the price. Just a small feedback hope you take come action.

This place was recommended to me by a foodie friend who goes quite regularly. Probably my favorite Indian restaurant in Taipei city now. Ok, I may be biased since they have something you don’t see at too many places - dosa!! And of course all the curries were good too. Don’t forget to try the fried peppers that are not spicy!

This place was recommended by an Indian friend and I can confidently say: My favorite Indian restaurant in Taiwan and even one of the best I tried anywhere in the world outside of India, went here many times and it was always great. The interesting touch is the focus on South Indian cuisine, so there are many dishes which you might never have seen elsewhere. Affordable lunch options.

We went with high expectations for Indian food. Although the dosas were quite good and filling, we are very disappointed with the samosas that they gave. They were as small as a golf ball and just 4 pieces for 220NT$ which is heavily overpriced. You can visit for south indian food but a BIG NOO for north indian appetisers.

I was really looking forward to eating here, but from the go things were less than desirable. Got a very lukewarm response to my inquiries over the phone when I made reservations, and the service at the restaurant was of the same tired, unenthusiastic style ( though the only staff who taking orders, bringing food and accepting payments did the best one person could). We ordered masala dosa, which was soggy and average tasting; Pani poori, which was a total disaster with masala dosa filling for pooris with warm (??tasteless "paani" which had chopped onion and chillies floating in it! The veg biryani was nothing to write about and the raita was watery and bland. Desserts continued the same sad story- payasam was basically milk base with no flavour and the sooji halwa (see picture), though tasty, had tons of unappealing orange food colouring!Im only giving it three stars as it might be good value for money for some people (we paid 350 per person and ordered a masala lassi apart from the above 5 items). I, for one, dont plan to visit again unless the quality and taste improves substantially.

Delicious, although I’m not a glutton, no idea of the degree of authenticity, but since the owner & chef are Indians, I do believe the taste will be accepted by most Indians.

My first time visiting, and Amma’s Kitchen moved from their previous location to this larger place (former location of The Local craft beer barabout a month ago. The interior is decorated with traditional decor, but the lighting has that blue-ish fluorescent bulb feel to it (which I’ve tried my best to edit out in my pictures).I asked what they would consider their signature dish, and the waitress said the chettinadu (chicken or lamband their dosa would be it. So I ordered a chicken chettinadu and a plain dosa to eat with it: bill came to $506NT. (Photos attached.)The chettinadu was packed with flavour and about 6 mouth-sized pieces of boned chicken in a medium bowl of curry sauce. Pricey at $325NT for Taiwanese standards, but roughly standard for curry in Taiwan. It came with 3 other little bowls of sauces/dips, but I couldn’t tell you what they were (besides delicious). All were not hit-your-tongue spicy, but had the kind of spicy that gets you a bit more with every successive mouthful. The dosa was probably 30-40cm in diameter, loosely rolled and served unceremoniously on a plate, as they typically are. It was oily-crispy on the outside, but towards the center it was soft (immediately as it was served to meand mushy. I couldn’t easily rip/break it for single-bite servings. My benchmark (and I’ve had at other Indian restaurants in this citywas crispy and easily tearable or piercable across its entire length, and Amma’s was rather disappointing in comparison.Would I come back? Maybe, but probably only to see if something else in their menu is worth eating.

Nice place for South Indian food. However they need to understand we’re in 2020 - you need to accept card payments.Secondly service needs to be improved. The waiters just sit there without bothering to look and see if you need anything more

Very authentic Indian food. We really enjoyed it. The place is very picturesque, from the entrance to the restaurant itself, but don’t be driven by that, food is pretty good. We order mutton curry, rice with tomato and dosa bread. Good quantities for two people.Maybe rice/mutton meat proportions are not very balanced, neither the check. The price for everything was a bit more than $700 (TWD).Overall worth a try!

The restaurant is located on 2nd floor. Could seat only up to max of about 15 person. The food is great, I had masala dosa, chapati, chicken 65 and butter chicken. My wife had mutton Briyani and butter paneer. Both were OK. The dosa was the best I had in a while. Only the butter chicken may be a little saltier than my liking.

My lunch date and I tried Amma’s Kitchen (South Indian foodtoday. What a refreshing take in Indian food. It is stripped of every pretension, the flavours that came out of familiar dishes were brand new and every dish had such a lightness on the palate and in the tummy. Comparative to other overpriced and underwhelming Indian restaurants, Amma’s prices are very affordable and the quality and thought in each dish is immediately noticeable. The staff were completely down to earth and had such a charming warmth emanating out of them. Service was so attentive and the waiter was so spontaneous and generous in sharing information about how every dish was prepared. I’ve honestly never had such beautifully-cooked rice like that before. The dosa was fresh, crisped to perfection and filled with just the perfect amount of potato masala to get you excited whilst leaving lots of room for other dishes. The accompanying green chili and coconut chutney, sambar and onion chutney were perfectly seasoned and complemented and contrasted each other wonderfully. We ordered a palak paneer with lemon rice. An absolute must! It felt like the first time I’ve ever tasted that dish. It was simply delicious! They served us a complimentary dessert of warm sago porridge which was light, creamy and sugared to the perfect temperature. We ended our glorious and super affordable meal with fresh coffee served in copper cups. Watch the video in which the waiter cools it down for us.Amma’s Kitchen is a 2-minute walk from exit 5 of Taipower MRT. It’s on the 2nd floor of a grimy building but once you take your shoes off and go inside, you are surrounded by a bright and cheerful old-school traincar vibe and are immediately taken care of. It truly feels like you are in an Amma’s warm home. Please support this wonderful, sweet, warm restaurant. There’s a lot of heart in their food.

I am constantly amazed at the hidden gems that pop up in Taipei. Ammas kitchen is a tiny 2nd floor restaurant disguised as an apartment...no wait...it is an apartment :-).Be persistent. Its worth it. Tucked away on the second floor in the middle of a long hallway, Ammas kitchen cooks up authentic and passionately served south India food.Dosa, tikkas, and curries are genuine, tasty, and delicious. The pricing is reasonable but I would not call it inexpensive. If you are daring, they serve an indian tea drink that is salty and spicy. Different flavors like coriander and a hint of yogurt make it interesting.Definitely worth a visit. I will return to try out the rest of the extensive menu. Go!

This is my first time having South Indian food and it has definitely become my motivation to plan for a trip to India! The place is quite small but delicate. I didnt feel squeezed even in such a little room.We pre-ordered weekend special preceded our visit and its totally worth the price. Its nice that you can still make an order for weekend special even if its not weekend, but you have to make a reservation for 2 sets in week days. Cant remember the name of the dish but still can recall the taste. It came in a banana leaf and several small bowls for all kinds of sauces and curry. OMG. Its like a symphony of food. My favorite is chicken curry and another dish called dosa. This south Indian restaurant is definitely in my pocket list for Indian food and a place for a nice meal.

Very good Indian food, loved the chicken briyani. Comes with complementary soup and dessert too. Small but cosy place, friendly servers who will patiently explain the food and make recommendations to suit your tastes. One dosa is not enough, you’ll just have to order more to mop up all that yummy curry and dips that they give you.

Nice Indian food with interesting and complex flavors! Main courses, dosa and chapati are delicious and taste a bit different from other Indian restaurants in Taipei, which really impressed us and would like to visit again for some other new dishes. The place is small but quite cozy and clean. Its located inside an old building...we got a great sense of adventure while finding the way 😂😉
