The Savoy, Strand, London WC2R 0EZ, George
The Savoy hotel's legendary art deco bar, with classic cocktails and live jazz pianist every night.
Once my favourite cocktail bar in London. Sadly the standard went down after Covid-19.
Nice staff and bar , only wished they would put as much effort in to non alcoholic cocktails as they do alcoholic ones . Staff are brilliant though
Ooooo I do love this place. I’ve been visiting for over 20 years. It’s glamorous, fun and the staff are professional, authentic and knowledgeable. Put on your glad rags and come on over.
Stunning cocktails, expert recommendations, an inviting atmosphere accompanied by a live pianist on site. The drinks were of the utmost premium quality, with attention to detail right down to the monogrammed ice.
Amazing place , pricey but the feel and service was lovely ,made better with the pianists!knocking out some classicsI know it’s smart casual but you should really ban wearing hats….
Definitely worth visiting for the delightful decor, service and hospitality. Drinks arent bad too! :-)
Highly recomend visiting this place but its not for the cost conscious thats for sure. We had a great table near the pianist who has a great chilled out voice. The drinks are beautiful and the vibe just relaxed and chilled and now and again you get to see the odd worst for wear Celebrity! One of my new favourite places in London.
One of Londons best. This one got class. Dont dress like a slob, you will feel out of place.
Wonderful! Fab vibe, comfy, relaxing.
A beautiful iconic bar with impeccable service. However we were underwhelmed by a £26 cocktail being served in what looked like an ‘Ikea’ glass tumbler! We expected better presentation which would have enhanced our experience.
Went for drinks last night with a group of 6. Service was subpar, not very friendly, and we sat with empty drinks for quite sometime before we were brought the bill, after only one drink. As for the cocktails, they are extremely over priced for what we received. The menu makes them sound very intriguing. We were waiting about half an hour for our cocktails to arrive, which i thought, “no problem, I’m sure they will be spectacularly presented and it will be worth the wait.” Imagine our disappointment when we were brought 5 different drinks in more or less the same exact glassware (just low ball and high ballwith no garnishes or any sort of presentation whatsoever. The color of my £21 cocktail looked like a watered down whiskey on the rocks, with absolutely no garnish of any sort. At least they put an ice cube that said “savoy” on it. To make matters worse, all of the glasses had condensation on the outside as if they had been sitting for a while before being brought over. I was really expecting it to be more of an experience but it was no different than any local pub experience in London.
I ordered the White Lady, a Corpse Reviver No 2, and a Bijou. Each were the best Ive ever had. The cocktails are incredible and Guiseppe provided awesome service.
What has happened to this place?Went in before dinner on Sunday and it was quiet and we were well looked after. After dinner around 7pm the service had completely gone downhill and customers in sportswear and quite a lot of kids in after 9pm doesn’t exactly set the tone it used to. Will be back for the Restaurants but much better bars in the area for me.3 stars for the quality of the cocktails as no arguments there.
I loved the live music and the salmon selection. There was a very nice atmosphere and I had good vibes. The salmon selection was very tasty and fresh. I had a mocktail with rosemary and lemon that was delicious!Thank you for today we had an amazing appetizer at your American Bar before the dinner at Gordon Ramsay restaurant.
Historic bar in the Savoy…walking through the entrance and seeing all the pictures of years gone by and the amazing company that have also graced the same space make it feel even more special.Be ready to spend minimum 20 pounds for a cocktail…albeit delicious.
Love the American Bar at the Savoy...yes its expensive bt worth it if you can afford it.Amazing cocktails, live music and intimate atmosphere.
Great cocktails and very attentive, friendly bar staff.
Went last night and planned to stay all night for drinks after attending the Savoy Theatre. I don’t think I’ve ever been more disappointed in a place. Service was shocking, got our mixer wrong (soda water instead of tonicbut that happens. Problem was he never came back around again the rest of the night. Asked for the bill twice, never came. Left after one very disappointing drink.
Great experience! The drinks and staff were fantastic. We knew it was an upscale place, but we still felt very comfortable there. We would definitely go back.
Fantastic cocktails in a real classy setting. Oysters must be had.
Use to be a great place to take people from out of town or to grab a drink before a show, use to be Art Deco, but now it’s remodeled and it’s like every other nice overpriced bar- nothing special. Go to Dukes for a Bar with character, The Savoy has lost all charm.
Cocktails were very good, our occasion was also quite satisfying and a heart opening gathering, but i d give it a 5 stars for two other thingsThe classy old world charm of the setting and the hotel plus the exquisite and entertaining piano live music and its performer
Service and cocktails absolutely lovely, but I have to say (personal opinion herethe aesthetic feels cheap with the carpet and textured wallpaper taking their cue from a cineplex, when this space should really be the epitome of London elegance and style.
I have been many times before and loved it but this time was so disappointed. We waited 40 minutes for our cocktails to arrive. Once they did the glasses were dripping with condensation so had obviously been waiting for a very long time at the bar. Revisit your staff training protocols. Cut the elongated and obsequious chat and get the drinks to the customers.
Some of the best cocktails Ive had. Juan was my bartender and he was very friendly, had a story for each cocktail, and was entertaining to watch make drinks. Cannot recommend this place enough.
The American Bar at The Savoy takes you back several decades to another time and place. The whole ambiance is, truly, one of a kind. Drinks and service is impeccable and exquisite.
Had the best time, drinks, food, service excellent.Loved the pianist, such a wide range of musicCant wait to go back. Loved it,loved it, loved it.Highly recommended.
The bar has the best cocktails and awesome atmosphere. I can’t say how much I miss the taste of the cocktail I ordered. The seemingly clear liquid was layered with flavors, each of them seems independent to others but they formed a wonderful symphony of flavors. The price is high but you get top notch cocktail and atmosphere, which lots of celebrities, like Winston Churchill, also experienced. Hope it reopen soon
One of favourite bars in London and rightfully so.ClassyAmazing customer serviceIntricately created cocktailsThe best mixologists in townAnd just all round lovely ambience.
Delicious cocktails, very nice bar. We had a great time. Orion cocktail was our favourite. We also loved the pink one and the suffragette. Lovely staff, nice live piano music. We definitely recommend! We understand why it is so highly rated among cocktails bar in the world!
Let me start by saying that I respect Ms Tebay’s work back from the Death and Co days and that I’m very much aware that this incarnation of the bar has only been open for a week. My issues were with service, not with the drinks. It’s sad you can’t sit at the bar anymore. If you emphatically ask to sit near the bar, it’s sad if you end up in a different room. There’s no real reason why there’s a tedious “spelling your complete name” ceremony, when that name is never mentioned again. Generally, servers are nice enough, but without a real personal connection, which, again, might be too much for ask for after a week. Finally, it’s weird to be asked about a reservation when the web site expressively says there aren’t any. Makes you feel like a second class guest right away.My drink was competently made and well thought out. Of course, it was about ten pounds too much in terms of quality, but these things have to be taken into account when you’re at the Savoy. I won’t be, for the foreseeable future, though.
My first time at this bar was when my mom came to visit me in London and was staying at the Savoy. We stumbled upon this gem before going to dinner. We never planned to come here; little did I know I was about to find my all-time favorite bar. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the receptionist, who was very welcoming; she sat us by the bar. The bar itself is a work of art and the relaxed ambience with the live music was just phenomenal. We were greeted by our waiter Nerijus, whom we came to find was Lithuanian as well. Upon meeting him, we had no idea wed be making an amazing friend for life. He handed us the menu and explained it to us, asked for suggestions, and told us a little about the history of the bar. The menu was like a graphic novel of some of the most amazing cocktails Ive ever seen. We went with his suggestions and were blown away. Weve continued to come to this bar for years and still do to this day. This bar will always have a special place in my heart!
This rating goes without saying. The best cocktail bar in the world. Staff is super professional and helps with setting up custom drinks according to your taste.
Sadly will never be able to try the Sazerac 😊 but theres plenty of others to choose from. Staff lovely to chat to. Relaxing atmosphere, will always be my favourite place.Had drinks here again 21st February during the afternoon. Great place to meet, chat & relax. Will come for a bar meal next time, the burger looked delicious. As always, staff impeccable. 40 years since I was a message clerk here, and where we took calls & messages for guests is now 2 beautiful lifts !!
Spectacular (and spectacularly expensivecocktails at this art deco Gatsby hotel bar. Loved the live piano player and the great service. Inventive drinks - I had a perfect gin martini and a gin highball made with nori, celery bitters and grapefruit soda that was light, savory and refreshing. There was also a 5000 GBP shot of whiskey but we passed on that one.
Great musical concept, carried through throughout the bar. From coasters in the form of records, a songbook menu with drinks named after classic songs, and a live pianist bringing the music to life. Prices are steep, but you come to expect that at the world’s number 2 bar.
Legendary comes to mind. It is a beautifully decorated bar with history and the kind of service that if you are under 40 you probably haven’t experienced outside of five star hotels. Be warned, such opulence comes at a price. You would expect to pay north of £26 for a drink when you are at a hard-to-get-in speak easy or a cocktail lounge on a roof with a view, but not a stuffy hotel with very inventive menus. It is very nice, but it is geared towards what younger generations are looking for. There is no trendy scene, fancy view or super talented instagram ready mixologist behind the bar. Just a famous address with beautiful, but outdated, decorations.Skip if you are visiting London, but worth the visit to take clients and business associates.
The staff were very welcoming and the drinks were great (worth the price !). They have a brilliant cocktail menu. I went with a group of friends and the bartender explained the story and the ingredients of each one of our cocktails. And the presentation, just WOW ! Beautiful and original. The bartender was really friendly and helpful, recommending cocktails based on your tastes. Service was absolutely exceptional from the beginning. It’s pricey but you have to go there at least once in your life.
Popped in for a drink before dining in The Savoy grill restaurant.Great bar. Brilliant cocktail menu.Cocktails were fantastic and the staff were friendly and helpful. A must for pre-dining drinks.
One of the best cocktail bars in the world. All drinks are top-notch here. There are only four places at the bar counter but it totally worth wait to get a free one. Watching for cocktails making by that good bartenders is astounding. You can spend 3 hours without notice just talking to barmen and trying to taste every cocktail in their menu.Snacks are free and unlimited that is a nice bonus considering expensive drinks there.Excellent service, all crew members are friendly, professional and always ready to help with any questions you may have. Its a famous place so book in advance or be ready to wait for some time to be seated. Waiting time is negligible if you are alone or two people only but may be longer for larger parties.
My family and I have been here twice, both times before dining at the Savoy Grill. Upon arrival we were warmly invited to sit down- they have a variety of plush couches and chairs which are very comfortable and classy. There is also grand piano in the centre of the room that a gentleman was playing softly whilst we were there. The cocktail list is absolutely huge, complete with some extraordinarily expensive vintage cocktails. Overall I love the experience and ambience of American Bar.
Incredible bar with casual and relaxing atmosphere. I ordered “Life And Times” andThat’s A Wrap”, both of them are amazing. Didn’t think that whiskey based cocktail can be this good. The washroom was really bright and luxury. This place definitely deserves a 5-star rating, or even more!!!
Classic bar with the best amazing drink list.Every drink in their menu has a story behind it. It comes with greatness taste.Amused, Presentation and Perfect mix
Had a great evening here! They don’t take reservations, but we arrived at 18:45 and waited for about 20 minuets. The bar has lots of history, and great atmosphere. There was an amazing pianist/singer until about 20:30 and the cocktails were so good!
Good atmosphere for a late night drink. Drinks are little pricy but service was great and staff were friendly. Got recommended other places to checkout after American Bar closed which I though was nice. Will come back again when I’m in London next.
Service - I thought the people who manages the place is not quite efficient. Why? They made people wait for 45 minutes before ushering them to the table when the place has 40% empty tables. I dont see the need to do this as for what, exclusivity purposes? It makes the bar look exceptionally pretentious. However, the staffs in the bar itself were nice. Our server was a really nice guy who attended to all our questions and constantly have a smile on his face.Drinks - Very good variety of drinks, it feels like a journey drinking in this bar with stories and fairytales. Each drink has a little story which makes them a little bit more interesting as compared to regular bars. A lot of effort is put in to every drink - with odd coasters, some preserved fruits or spraying something on the drinks in front of us. It somehow made me feel that its the show that got them to be so highly ranked. It depends on how you view it - some people will think the show is too much (Im one of them), some would think that this is why they are so highly ranked. For me, I just want my drink with less shows. Good effort though.Try Gilbert Rumbold, a very light and refreshing drink to start off. The vintage cocktail page is really interesting I thought. Possibily the only bar to my knowledge, serves such alcohol and also with that pricetag.Ambience - There was some jazz performance going on that night, too noisy for a proper conversation....Overall - All in all, I thought it could be better experience to visit if the bar is less busy. It made me feel they cannot cater to the crowd... I somehow like it quiet and classy instead of noisy and just too gimmicky. Will definitely return on a less busier day so staffs attention is less divided and when wait time is no longer than 15 minutes.
With the average price for a cocktail at £20 this bar may seem overpriced. However the service is exceptional, its an experience and a delight. The complimentary bar snacks make it a good value visit plus the live piano man was the cherry on top.
I’ve personally been in many of the top bars all across the globe and they’ve never failed (dead rabbit, artesian, elephant bar, tales&spirits, dandelyan, happiness forgets, door 74, PDT, employees only, red frog,... and the list continues). This place is definitely immaculate, historical and with a good vibe, the pianist gives a very cool touch to the all experience. The cocktail menu is interesting and the way they approach it is very different and worth to read the menu beginning to end.Now what you really come for... cocktails... expensive, too expensive for what they are! Weak in taste, unbalanced and flavors are strong on the alcohol note and not on the ingredients that are displayed on the menu... this as obviously my experience, considering they are currently one of the top bars in the world, I don’t want to destroy what they do, but again, my experience in the cocktails and service was poor! I wasn’t served water at my arrival, which I guess that optional from bar to bar, but it’s probably one of the first time this happened. The bar was almost empty when I arrived, even the staff was commenting between themselves, but still took over 15 minutes to take my order and another 15 for my drink!Felt disappointed considering the amount paid and the overall drink experience, wouldn’t come back and unfortunately I can’t recommend, compared to the better options around town!
Rated as the “best bar in the world”. We had to wait for a table but it wasn’t long and well well it was worth the wait. Best cocktails we have ever had. Great service and really great jazz pianist. Highly recommend. A great end to a month long holiday
Lovely experience definitely something special. The history of the place is amazing and I felt like a luxury experience. The staff were very attentive and knew the menu inside out. Cocktails were delicious too. Around £20 for a cocktail. Complimentary snacks were given which is definitely a bonus. Would recommend!
