Ambrosia - Restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Had the monfongo con pollo with garlic sauce. Tried a lot of places here in PR and its the only place I went back to. The other places were excellent but this place is just that good. I have had the same dish other places and this is the place that will have me searching for the dish in Texas. I would also recommend the sausage in wine sauce
Delicious food and great service 👍🏼
Great hole in the wall place for mojitos and appetizers! Very cool bartenders and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
This was hands down the best food we had while we were here in PR!First they have their own hot sauce they make in house and sell and it’s good!!! We had it on the chicken wings along with the bbq sauce they give you with them. These wings set the bar while we were here and it was hard to find other wings that could even come close. This was my first mofongo and it was amazing. I got the shrimp with the garlic sauce. I wanted to keep eating but I was so full. My boyfriend got the mango glazed salmon and that was great too. There were huge chucks of mango with it that made it even better.
A hidden gem… most amazing food…. Loved the mohitos … this was our first meal in Puerto Rico .. and it was sooooo good. Also, prices are very reasonable.🥰🥰🥰
I really enjoyed the mofongo with shrimp and my pina colada!
Unpredictable hours but amazing food and service
While looking for place to eat here in old San juan, we found this place on Google with good reviews, they stand up.to there reviews. Service was fast and reliable, when we received our food it was well presented and teste was full of flavor. Drinks where on point. They deserve 5 stars . Thanks again
The food, service, and drinks were excellent. We recommend the chorizo in red wine for an appetizer it’s so yummy.
Great food, 2 for $8 mojitos! Service was a little slow but great otherwise!Fried plantains were also top notch!
Food took 1 hour to come out, when it finally came out it wa very bland, and even worse, it was literally frozen on the inside. Owner tried to argue instead of trying to resolve, wanted to obligate us to pay for all the frozen food that we didnt eat.
Wow!! Mofongo (We had the steak with tomato saucewas out of this world!! The sausage in red wine sauce was super delicious too!! Also had their Cordon Bleu bites (appetizer menu); equally tasty!I would eat here at least once a month if I lived closer. Service was prompt and attentive. Overall fantastic experience!
Super friendly!! Ice cold beer available and a great sampler to nibble on while taking in a little Old San Juan. A must stop for a mojito or beer.
Ambrosia is not open anymore. According to other reviews they are down the block and now called Pira Rum. But Pira Rum seems to just have tapas according to their menu, not full meals.
Best decision ever to choose this place to eat, we order the parrillada something and wow! It was great, make sure to order parcha mojitos to die for.. really good!
Way way too slow of service x just 2 mojitos and only 4 people sitting @ the bar.. terribliss I got up amd left..
I had an excellent fillet of Grouper while my wife enjoyed the chulettas. The Grouper was served in a creole sauce with a side of arroz con habechuales and a small salad. Very good...well cooked and very well seasoned. So, if you are headed to Old San Juan any time soon, look this restaurant up. Give them a try. You will not be disappointed. I recommend them with pleasure.
2 for 8$ mojitos are a steal! The drinks are delicious, and a much better price than you can expect to find at the surrounding bars/ restaurants. Bartender is excellent; quick and friendly! We left a gift we’d purchased several hours before, and when we returned he brought it out to us as soon as he saw us.
Ambrosia is absolutely outstanding for what it is—a place to watch telenovelas while eating much better than average bar food. My wife had the pork appetizer. I had the pork chops—not grilled, but fried, as “we do them in Puerto Rico,” according to our very friendly and mostly efficient waiter. The fried pork chops were seasoned and cooked precisely the same as my wife’s appetizer—except thinner, wider, and with the bone in. (Her appetizers were chunks of lean pork prepared much the same as carnitas. My pork chops were served with a short stack of iceberg lettuce topped with a generous slice of underripe tomato, plus a mayonnaise-based dip in the center, which may have been for my side of tostones (chunks of plantain, mashed flat and then fried). The silverware was a plastic knife and fork, packaged in plastic with an insubstantial napkin; the tines on the fork bent when I tried to pierce my first pork chop. That’s when we decided that everything was finger food. And it was outstanding finger food! It was fried, but not too greasy; browned outside and well cooked while still moist inside. But “Ambrosia”? Pleasing as this meal was, it did not bring the ethereal food of the gods to mind.Oh, and those famous 2-for-$8 mojitos? They were OK. They went down smoothly. But if you order one, it’s $6, and that second mojito was quite heavy on the ice. It probably had just as much rum as the first, but the extra $2 did not afford $2 more of drinking pleasure. And isn’t a mojito supposed to taste of mint, not just have mashed mint piled atop the ice?The crystal was as high-style as the silverware: clear, colorless plastic, just like you can get on the disposable dinnerware aisle at your local grocery. No clink of satisfaction with your toast. So if you’re looking for a burger and fries prepared unlike any chain’s sad approximation of that classic, or the kind of food you can eat without regret while downing a brewski or two, Ambrosia is the perfect place. It’s clean, and the food tastes great, is adequately filling, and doesn’t even think about causing heartburn. But a romantic place with food to satisfy the appetites of the world’s grandest gourmets it most definitely is not. If that is your goal, keep looking. There are many closer approximations of that ideal nearby—and one of them is right across the street.
Great service and experience! A must for great drink specials in downtown San Juan!
Mojitos great taste, very nice price 2 x $8Excellent mood, nice music and atmosphere. In front of the Convento. Nice place to visit on Old San Juan
Best mofongo in the old San Juan and the service is best.
Food was good. Try the mojito. Service was a tad slow hence no 5. But very accommodating and worth a visit.
Excellent service and food! Would gladly to business again!
Great food, drink, price and great customer service
Always have a fantastic meal at Ambrosia when we’re in Old San Juan, and tonight didn’t disappoint! Had bistec with onions, rice & beans, tostones and a side salad. Everything was excellent.
Great little restaurant for local food in old San Juan. Excellent food, friendly service and hidden away enough to not attract the cruise ship crowd!
Excellent small type restaurant for Puertorican food. Simple, no luxury but great service and great value. Costs are surprisingly low compared to other places in the area. My choice in old San Juan every time I visit.
Really good food for lunch but kitchen is small so can be slow.
Really great food. Prices very reasonable. Pork & onions plus rice and beans = $10.
Monfongo with skirt steak. Awesome with mojitos 😋
Good food, great mojitos.
Food was great drink was even better
Great food + service. Need paint and better light at bathroom.
Nice bartender Erick. 2 best mojito. Great place to be. Nice music
THE PERFECT MOJITO!! Food was really tasty and mostly authentic. Loved sitting by the window. Atmosphere was nice, but a bit touristy.
Nice big portions but food is meh. Service is great. Lemonade was good.
Stopped in for dinner and drinks while there on a cruise stop!!! LOVED the food and our server, Adrian, was the absolute BEST!!! Will definitely go back next time we are there! Made us feel at home and we got to try the local food along with delicious mojitos!!!
Food was great.... service even better. Definitely recommend if youre in the area!
Food was very good, but service was a bit slow despite not being very full. My wife specified not wanting any cheese or butter, they said they could do that, them brought out fish tacos covered with shredded cheese.
This place, was fast, friendly, and delicious. Best pricing that I found in San Juan.
Excellent authentic Puerto Rican rice and beans and much more at a bargain price next to the Cathedral. My fiance insisted going back. No arguments from me.
Good place .. great service wow .. awsome food great expirence
Excellent food and serviceThe grilled pork chops were incredibly delicious. They used the correct seasonings that made the taste incredible.I will definitely return to this restaurant more often and recommend to everyone who wants to explore Puerto Rican cuisine.
Amazing food. We visited 3 times in the 6 days we were in San Juan. The Masitas de cerdo, fried pork, is amazing, and the mofongo is the best we have had on our visit. The last night we were in town went in to get the Masitas de cerdo again, unfortunately they were out. Turned out to be a good thing because we tried the Chicharrones de pollo, fried chicken. AMAZING!!!!Staff was friendly and the mojitos were very good. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, but worth every second.
We ate here after a walk thru el Morro, but I got disappointed because my food was the last one to be served . And they do not have enough food to feed my family..by the time I got my meal my family was already done. I packed my dinner and my boy friend ate it on the way home because I wasnt hungry..
Planked salmon, sangria and amarillos (sweet plantains—really great food for reasonable prices. Definitely a well kept secret! I recommend walking there, though—parking is scarce. Definitely worth finding!
We ate here after visiting El Morro on our walk through Old San Juan. This is the perfect stop to grab authentic local food and a cold drink before continuing on. The wait staff are friendly and quick. Our food was fairly priced and tasted AMAZING! I recommend the fish tacos - they were excellent. Stop and eat; you won’t regret it.
❤️🇵🇷We had a great time in Ambrosia, the food is delicious and affordable, but what impressed us was their level of service. Super friendly and hospitable, definitely the warmest place we’ve been to in San Juan.
This is an excellent place to hang out while in old town. They have delicious pork chops and care about their customers a lot. I have never experienced a service like this. The couple who own the restaurant are super friendly and hospitable. A great place to feel true Caribbean vibes!
