Amber Museum in Gdansk
Description
Privilege
Free enter on Mondays. The building has been beautifully restored and renovated. What amber is and how it emerged is well explained with pictures and videos. I would recommend a nice museum for kids and adults.
MoreHighly recommended this museum, seeing all the Ambers and where they come from.
The exhibition is really extensive but it didn’t catch me. Admittedly there were some units worth displaying, but unless you’re a fan of amber/jewellery you can get bored halfway through the museum. To me - form over content.
MoreAmber being the main attraction in Gdansk, amber museum obviously is one of must visit place. Museum is maintained very well and has a rich or elegant look. There are lot of artifacts in display made of amber like chess board, guitar etc. Its free of charge on Mondays and recommended to visit then as not big crowd is there. Also, it doesnt take too much time to cover.
MoreBeautiful museum. Interactive and informative. Its not big but you will enjoy every minute and every step you take.
MoreVery nice museum with interesting facts and a big collection of amber pieces, everything is well explained in both Polish and English.
MoreA fascinating place with lots of things made by amber and there was also insects and plants trapped inside the amber. There you will find rings/jewelry made by amber, but me and my wife thinks its mor fascinating to look at all the things rather than buying and wearing amber jewelry. We did find 2 small rooms a little hidden from the rest of the exhibition, one of the room was about what the museum was before it was a museum.A little hard to find the toilet and the guards dont speak/understand English very well so we had to go to the toilet another place because they didnt understand what we where asking for.
MoreA great show of history in a very modern setting. The museum was incredibly clean and futuristic, a great visit if youre either a geologist, gemstone enthusiast or just want to learn more about Gdańsks mining history.
MoreThis museum is fantastic and a must for the semi-precious stone. It has all types of pieces from jewelry to chess boards to ornate sculptures. Not very big, but packed full of information and items.
MoreNice muzeum. You learn a lot of stuff about amber. No dogs allowed. 22 PLN ticket for an adult.
MoreWhat a wonderful idea it was to create such a museum! The greatest impression is that you may "touch by your eyes" the things aged by 3-16 mln. years old. Unbelievable!Good souvenir shop either. Worthy to get something for memory & beauty
MoreInteresting and well put together exhibition about geological origins, historical and contemporary use of amber.
MoreWe visited the Amber museum and what an experience! The outside appears old, but the inside is completely different - its modern, sleek and offers plenty to see. If I had to pick one thing that could be improved, I would love to see some chairs or benches to sit down. But even that is minor and I believe it to be a remarkable experience for the whole family.
MoreA beautiful building and a nice design museum. Content is not so deep and not so entertaining but Dgansk is famous for ámbar. So its up to you.
MoreAbsolutely a must if in Gdansk.Spent there 1.5 hour only because of an impatient kid. There are some interactive videos/screens for kids as well, but mine was not impressed.Othetwise, surely would have been there at least 1 hour more. Many interesting things and there is also a shop where you can buy different jewelery and souvenirs of amber.
MoreIf you like amber this is a good place to visit. If you are not super into amber, as a museum it is not particularly interesting. A well presented display which focuses mostly on showing all the pieces of amber they have. The top floor is the best one with some beautiful items made from amber. Good place to visit but you will not regret if you missed this.
MoreWe were there on Monday and the entry was free that day. Despite it being the first week of Polish holidays, it wasnt crowded. AC was on and the exhibition was really interesting so we spent there about 1-1.5 hours.
MoreWorth seeing. Very interesting. And beautiful. The only downside I would say its not the exhibition but how the walls and floors look really shiny and it does make you dizzy, and makes you question each step you take.
MoreYou love Stones? Must see then.
Nice museum informative but not very interactive
Great place to find out about the history and everything else about Amber with tons of art pieces and interactive displays.
MoreIn here you can learn the history of amber. Was really thorough and broad.
Interesting collection in beautiful museum
This have been on my bucket list for a while. I expected the museum to be alot bigger, but despite it’s small size it packs alot of amber and knowledge. You get to learn everything about the biology, geology and cultural history of amber. All while studying both amazing amber pieces and gorgeous art. Plenty and good english signs. The shop was a real suprice, you find some real designer goods for decent and honest prices. Skip the overpriced tourist traps and do your shopping here instead!
MoreVery nice and interesting museum!
Outstanding!!! Modern interior is absolutely perfect. Exhibition sofisticated, multimedial, nteresting even for kids and youths,. Must see in Gdańsk!
MoreIt has many beautiful amber artifacts.
Its beautiful there and the service is kind. The place has their own unique vibes I recommend to check it out.
MoreVery impressive collection of amber in various forms, as well as interesting history. We went on a Monday when there was no entrance fee, but there were some school classes so there was some wait.
MoreEducative museum about amber. From history (creation and excavationto modern souvenirs and jewelry from amber. They also offer an educative movies for kids so they can be entertained as well. Definitely recommend
MoreNice option on rainy weather (or even if its not). A lot interesting facts on where the amber comes from and a lot of expositions to admire. Beautiful building with nice history as well. Visited in may (before the seasonso not so crowded.
MoreA very interesting museum. It’s definitely worth a good stop. You can spend several hours here the amber is pretty and a lot of good exhibits it really goes from the basics up to modern amber. This place has a huge collection everything is gorgeous. I highly recommend stopping by.
MoreThe museum was so much better in the old building.wasnt impressed with new museum..lost all its character.
MoreThe history of Gdansk is linked to amber. Nice place to visit. Dozens of ambers in different shape, size, color, and its use. Worth to pay tribute to such museum.
MoreThe Amber Museum is worth a stop. Free on Wednesdays, if you like that. As mentioned, the interactive displays are off due to COVID, but its still worth while to visit if you like amber. Many fascinating pieces all displayed in an old mill. There is also a miniature cutaway of the mill as envisioned from back in the day. You can spend anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour or a little more. We visited in November, had a school trip that was there and a few random folks, but not busy at all. Gift shop is ok, but there are plenty of amber shops in Gdansk, so unless you are pressed for time, dont think you have to purchase there.
MoreAmazing museum. No boring stories, only great experience. Tickets are unbelievable cheap and there’s also free of admission day every Wednesday. Three floors of beautiful exhibits, both natural and handmade, which look stunning in the museum lighting. Also a big store downstairs, where everyone could find a little memorabilia for themselves. Would recommend visiting yourself.
MoreA beautifully set-out museum and very informative. Sadly the interactive displays were not on due to Covid-19, so we didnt get the full experience. But it costs less than €5 for entry, so it was fine.
MoreUnfortunately, a bit disappointing exhibition despite a new location in a beautiful old building of a former great mill. Museum has adorable but a small collection of raw amber, amber jewelry or amber decor. There should be more explanation about pieces on the exhibition. Moreover, there’s not much about amber itself like extraction or processing. Maybe multimedia cover this matter but due to COVID-19 it was switched off. Jewelry store on the ground floor is just a waste of space. There’s a houndred similar places next door.
MoreThree floors of Amber, some in raw form, some jewelry and other items like a jewelry box etc. Beautiful display with written history for some items
MoreInteresting place to learn more about Amber and so many samples as showcase. The best part for me is the architecture of the place. It was used to be an old grand mill. U can see the picture and model of the space what it looked like in the past.
MoreIf you are planning to visit, Wednesday is free from entry fee. The place is great and you can spend an hour or two. You will find descriptions in both in polish and English. It is written that cannot take photos but the guy who works there said can take without flash.
Moregreat museum, must be visited while in Gdańsk, great art showed inside, friendly and professional service
MoreA very nice museum filled with various ambers. Its quite small but worth to visit. Although, its not worthy to pay for climbing viewing platform, better visit basilica.
MoreCrowded to the point of being impossible to visit and the exhibits are not that great, maybe a bit more explanations would be better for the whole experience. The building itself is much more interesting than the Amber museum
MoreMarvelous museum full of different varieties of amber both jewelry and natural pieces. Perfect for group visit with kids. Definitely recommended!
MoreIf you are polish youre likely to have a more fulfilling experience than if you are a foreigner as most of the info is in polish. They have some really nice displays and for the little price it is to buy a ticket its not bad, the extra 5 sloty to visit the tower is up for debate, its really not a great view and there are other places that offer a greater view, but again the price is very low.
MoreFormer gateway and fortress to old city now small museum curatedwith interesting works of art in amber, small gift shop and interesting views from top of tower of old city and long market, free entry on Tuesdays you only pay to go to top of tower, well worth a visit
MoreIts a very unique place definitely worth visiting when in Gdansk. The museum is located in the gothic fore gate complex that consists of the Prison Tower, Citys Courthouse and theTorture Chamber. This multi-story exhibit presents the history of Baltic Amber, methods of extraction, history of the trade routes, uses in medicine, and an artistic material. The Amber collection is quite impressive. #letsguide, #poland, #gdansk, #visitgdansk, #oldtown, #royalroute, #touristattraction, #landmark, #museum, #gothic, #gothicarchitecture #prisontower, #tower, #gate, #courthouse, #torturechamber, #amber, #baltic,
MoreLovely ceiling in red room but rest of museum disappointing. Its worth a train ride to see the largest brick castle this has alot more history.
MoreNice museum in an old castle, I personally found most of the museum a little bit bland but the 3rd floor and up were more interesting since they depicted fruits, instruments and other things as amber. I didnt find the museum very well adapted for smaller children since the objects were often out of sight for them. There were a lot of steps too which is to take into account. Theres an extra 5 buck fee to get to the top and admire the view.Overall pleasing experience.
