Amalienborg Slotsplads 5, 1257 København K, Denmark, Svendborg
18th-century rococo complex of palaces, with a museum & marches/displays by royal guards.
Despite my general disinterest in royalty and jewelry, I still found the museum located here surprisingly fascinating. Seeing just how interwoven the Royal Families of Europe are and getting a sense of the scope of activities they are required to attend was a great use of an afternoon and well worth the admission.
Nice and pretty castle in the middle of Copenhagen
Enjoyed a special additional display of Crown Jewels of the Queen.
We were here to see the interior of a palace but there are not many rooms to see. The attraction that caught us instead were the family jewelry of the royal family, more the queen‘s private collection. It was not the Crown Jewels which you get to see at Rosenborg slot BUT the special and day to day jewelry of Margrethe II. BUT what is really astonishing is that you can use a Audioguide where the queen, the majesty herself (!!!voiced where she got which one and the wonderful stories of the pieces bounded with her loved ones. It is not a big exhibition and the rooms do not get enough attention but we were very pleased anyways.
the most beautiful places in Copenhagen. if youre lucky, the queen waves from the balcony
The home of Denmark’s King and Queen. Unfortunately one of them was in residence and as such there were no tours available. Still a beautiful place to visit and take in the wonderful architecture.
Beautiful palace. Impressive traditional palaces. Unique architecture.
Historic, beautiful, stunning. Enjoy!
If you want to witness the change of gaurds at the palace then you have to be at the Amalienborg square at around 11.40. The change of gaurds happens exactly at 12 everyday. It is free and anybody can be there and witness the change of gaurds. It is nothing fancy but still an experience. There is also a museum as well. The museum comes free with the copenhagen card. The museum is nice and in particular you will get to see all the queens jewelery and history behind it. They will provide you with an audioguide either in English or Danish. The queen herself recorded and explained the history behind the jewelry in Danish. Women in general or those love jewellery will find this place quite interesting. It can take you roughly 1 hr to 3 hrs depending upon how fast or slow you want to visit the museum.
Impressive royal palace at a beautiful location. Check the special number plates of royal vehicles crossing this place quite regularly!
August 2022 • Beautiful square with royal palaces surrounding it. Wasnt overcrowded on a weekend which was surprising!
Went very early in morning so eas empty and very beautiful.
If you have to choose between Rosenborg and Amalienborg, the better choice is for sure Rosenborg! But also here I can recommend to buy your tickets only, even if you do this only shortly before your visit.Usually there are long queues and there is a maximum number of people allowed to enter every 10 minutes. If you buy your ticket online for your preferred timeslot, you can skip the queue + you can enter without additional waiting time.
I did not vist the museum. So the review is only for the building. It is a must see, nice building and location, not very impressive.
A nice visit of the Queens jewelleries, audio guide available in many different languages. The visit has been surprising, you can discover the history of the Royal family by their jewelleries. All the comments are made by the actual Queen. A nice visit even with children.
Its beautiful but museum isnt interesting enough for me.Maybe for others it might.Still worth a visit
Nice palace especially with the 💂♀️ shift changing demonstration which gives you a sense of history. A walk alongside the harbor is a plus afterwards.
All the beautiful Danish palaces are in one area, well worth a visit, also saw the changing of the guards
The tickets for the exhibition inside are quite pricy,so maybe thats why we had high expectations, but in reality theres only two floors with jewellery and interior of the rooms. But of course all the crowns and necklaces are beautiful and I think those who are very interested in royals will be satisfied, especially due to the fact that the Danish audio guide is sounded by The Queen herself.
Pretty impressive and from there you can see the beautiful church dome which you need to visit.
Cute Palace to visit with some guide so you can know a little bit more about history
Beautiful Palace highlighting the historical glory of the royal family.
Rally nice place which offers nice old buildings, big statue in the middle and cathedral little in the back. The thing I really liked about this place (squareis, that it wasn’t overcrowded.
No spectacular scene, but in combination with the cathedral to rear and fountain to the front its worth to be visited. The guard cha ge was a bit disappointing...
Nice place to visit. The change of guard is nice. Great place for good pictures.
Amalienborg Palace is made up of 4 rococò buildings framing a square with an equestrian statue of Frederik V in the middle. Originally built as home for the nobility, it was taken over by the Royal Family in 1794 after the fire in Christiansborg. The Amalienborg Museum is currently hosting a very nice exhibition called "A Queens Jewellery Box", showcasing all the jewels that Her Majesty uses on special occasions, like weddings and state ceremonies. Besides there are also some historical rooms, like Frederik IXs study. Entrance price is 125 DKK but the ticket is free with Copenaghen Card.
Nice view of architectural buildings & ambience!
Reminds of old era of Danish monarchy. Beautiful and well maintained architecture. View of Copenhagen opera House in front.
Interesting palace with royal guards. Didn’t go in.
It’s such a beautiful architecture spot very pretty
Decent place to visit if you have the city pass, but I wouldn’t recommend spending the money for a stand-alone ticket as the items aren’t anything too special (other than the Faberge room which is pretty small). They have free lockers to store your items as you walk around and bathrooms available on the ground floor.
One of the best things and must do is seeing the army in exchange places
This huge palace is made up of four identical classical palace façades with rococo interiors around an octagonal courtyard. When I was there one of the four was surrounded by crowds waiting for the Changing of the Guard - of no interest to me as I detest the concept of royalty, but each to their own.Marmorkirken metro.
Its only a part of palace. Ground , ist, and 2nd . Its a small portion. The rest of the 90% is the palace where no entry is allowed. Buy tickets via coupenhagen card or with rosenborg palace ticket( discounted rates).
Nice photo opportunity for tourists.Walked through the grounds on our walk to "The little mermaid."Very close to the river.Beautiful buildings and nice chance to see one of the royal soldiers.
Amazing Royal residence in the heart of Copenhagen! It’s a must see because it has an interesting structure, in fact it’s composted by five buildings all around a square because in origin there were dove noble families who decided to build it. You can also see the change of the Royal guards everyday at 11am. You can also visit part of the building which has inside lots of decorations and amazing furniture.
The place is beautiful but the museum is not something special. It is small an d mostly demonstrates the queens jewellery.
It was a interesting palace. You just walked in to a kind of court and around you there are different buildings. Apparently at every building around lives a part of the royal family and there are underground tunnels so they can visit eachother. We were there when there were guards walking around so that was nice to see. It’s something nice to have visited if you are in the area.
The Royal family live here. A nice, quiet square .
If you are in Copenhagen for 1st time, you must visit Amalienborg! It is a ❤️ of the city and Denmark 🇩🇰
Fascinating and dramatic architecture. A guided tour with excellent explanations. A huge Royal square zwitha gr St central statue
Nice square to visit, if possible watch the guard 💂♀️ switch
A memorable visit not to be missed ..gives one a clear understanding and appreciation of profound Danish Royal history
Residence of danish royal family. Very nice place and every day at noon you can witness the guards changing activity. Be sure to take a place at the front well in advance to enjoy the show.
I’m not sure why this museum is talked up so much—Rosenborg, Kronborg, and Frederiksborg Castles were all way cooler. I did enjoy the changing of the guard, though!
Residence od the Danish Royal Family. Worth to visit, especially the queens jewellery gallery. Personally I am imoressed how Queen Margrett and rest of the Royal Family are opened to the ordinary people - much more than British Royal Family. Sunday guard change is also worth to See.
We went here to see the changing of the guard at midday. It was great fun and wonderful to see old traditions living on in the modern world!
I ended up staying in Copenhagen for a night before travelling onwards. Decided to walk to Amalienborg and its always a pleasure visiting. Such an impressive setting and something calming about the way the guards 💂♂️ walk around like clockwork. Great setting to with the water next door and the famous Nyhavn only a short walk away
Amalienborg was a fun place to visit. We enjoyed reading about the more recent royals and going through the rooms. I gave this a 4 just because I feel the other palaces in Denmark have much more history and more rooms to go through as well as beautiful grounds. If you do have time its definitely worth a visit and if you plan it correctly you can also see the changing of the guards at noon. You will want to purchase your tickets before hand as only a certain amount if visitors are allowed in at a time. Its currently only open on Saturdays and Sundays.
Amalienborg is the home of the Danish royal family, and is located in Copenhagen, Denmark. It consists of four identical classical palace façades with rococo interiors around an octagonal courtyard in the centre of the square is a monumental equestrian statue of Amalienborgs founder, King Frederick V.Amalienborg was originally built for four noble families; however, when Christiansborg Palace burned on 26 February 1794, the royal family bought the palaces and moved in. Over the years various monarchs and their families have resided in the four different palaces.
