Iron Chef Jose Garces puts a modern spin on tapas at this contemporary Spanish spot with warm decor.
Review is a little late. Went here in the winter. The food was really great. Sat at the bar though, and did not think the bartender was that good. I’m not sure if he was new or training, but he put the wrong drink in front of my boyfriend …
One word: Amazing. Every single dish. Liz, the waitress, took great care of our table. Ordered the chef’s selection. Every bite of every dish was delicious.
Fantastic tapas- this is the same owner that runs Tinto, another top-notch tapas restaurant in downtown Philadelphia. Its a bit loud, so if youre thinking of having a large group for a business meeting you may want to go somewhere else, but for 2 to 4 people wanting excellent tapas this is on the short list.
Best Tapas in the city! If your a gin & tonic drinker, they have great variations of the drink that you wont find elsewhere. The vibe is exactly what you would want while enjoying Tapas and Spanish wines as well!
I made a reservation about 2 weeks in advance but we were seated an hour later than our reservation. Apparently there were multiple other guests that had been sat for over 4 hours and waiters are not allowed to ask them to leave. So I would suggest making a reservation for an earlier time as the reservation system is more like first come, first serve. The food was not as great as I thought it would be, we had the chefs tasting menu and the meat was quite dry. Although I enjoyed the tater tots and mushroom dishes.
The worst place Ive been to lately. It used to be a decent place and good food. But now, when the management has changed, everything has fallen into decay. I would especially like to mention the manager Jin, who is boorish, rude and an absolute non-professional. He also stole a bottle of expensive champagne from us. I do not recommend wasting time on such a lousy place that looks expensive.
Simply amazing… My family and I chose Amada to celebrate my sisters 21st birthday and from start to finish we were treated like family! Richard R (general managerand his staff went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time. The food was OUTSTANDING! Everything was cooked with love and tons of flavor! We also had a 1 year old with us and orders came out quickly. I would recommend Amada in Philly to all!! We will be back for sure!
Amada is amazing! Amazing food and atmosphere!!! We went here for a night out and the cocktails hit the spot! It was my first time going ti a Tapas style restaurant and our waitress did an amazing job explain everything to us!
Really enjoyed the happy hour. $5 sangria and tapas specials. Croquettes were excellent, the duck pan de pato was amazing. The patatas bravas were undercooked which was a little surprising but otherwise everything was great.
I would give 6 stars if they brought the seafood Paella back.Amazing food, Jason the manager is the best and Yasmine is a fantastic server. Our favorite restaurant in the city.
Brunch here was amazing! My boyfriend and I each had the $5 Sangria. The red and white were both amazing. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us navigate through the menu. The food was fresh and the flavors were perfectly balanced. We can’t wait to come back!
I really like this place. Been there 3 or so times. Before covid though. Food was great. Great bar and great atmosphere. Shrimp was so buttery and soft. Definitely a must try.
Amazing service, and great food! Staff was really friendly someone would keep checking up on us. They also have a lot of good options so it can make it challenging to pick something which is a good thing.
Had dinner there yesterday with my family. We were craving for a good paella and the reviews gave us the impression that this was a good place for that.We ordered croquetas de jamon as an appetizer, a milanesa for the kids (we were told that the chef do not accept any change requests, so we ordered a side of rice), the waiter also recommended the night special, seafood paella, and we got it.My first surprise was that the milanesa came by itself before the croquetas and without the side of rice and patatas bravas, which came after my kids were finishing the milanesa. I was also surprised by the 12 dollars for a tiny portion of white rice. But it is ok… it is not a fast food chain, it comes with a cost…The croquetas were in our table after we complain for 3 times, and almost at the same time as the seafood paella. The croquetas de jamon were the best thing we’ve had there. The seafood paella looks beautiful, but was extremely dry and super spicy. I like spicy food, but this paella was one of the worst I’ve ever had. For a restaurant that charges 90 dollars for a Paella, I was expecting much more. When we’ve requested the check, the waiter and the manager offered a free dessert to compensate for the delays and confusion with the orders, which we’ve declined. It was a nice gesture, but wouldn’t erase the bad experience there.
Food. Unbelievable.Service. Fantastic. (Grace was great). The manager. My lord. F minus. He was the parking lot manager who takes his job just a touch too seriously. Be better Jim/Tim.
4.5 starsIf there is one thing that I would recommend going to Amada for, is the amount of importance they give to making sure that all of their diners go back home content and happy. Upon telling our server Kory that we are vegetarians, he not only guided us to meat-free dishes on the menu but went on to also tell us about dishes that did not contain meat but were still cross contaminated due to being fried in the same fryer as meat. This was one of the very few experiences that we had of such attention being put into serving us. The manager was kind enough to address our concerns and provide some more insight into available options for us because she did not want us to go back disappointed and hungry. We greatly appreciated this part about the service.Coming to the food now, we tried 4 different dishes from the menu. The Coca de alcachofas y setas was our favorite dish of the night with a subtle flavor from the truffle oil along with the umami from the manchego cheese and the mushrooms. I would highly recommend this to everyone dining there. Next up, we had the Arroz Temporado which was like a mushroom risotto with peas. This too was delicious and we ordered it twice alongside the coca de alcachofas. We also had the setas and the caulini from the grill menu. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend these because they were both pretty bland. The setas in particular were disappointing because they lacked flavor despite being the most expensive dish that we had. Finally, we decided to go with our server’s recommendation for the dessert which was their basque cheesecake. The cheesecake was just how we would’ve liked it to be - the right amount of sweet complemented by a black currant purée and a ginger snap crumble. All in all, I would recommend staying away from the grill items (unless that is your jambut for everything else AND the immaculate service, I would recommend Amada even though it is toward the higher end of the spectrum in terms of what they charge for the dishes.
The food and the accommodation are dynamite. Tapas style menu which changes intermittently. Try not to pay attention to the servers about completing 5 tapas for every client. That is an excessive lot of food assuming you likewise plan to have dessert. I would suggest 3 tapas for each individual. You can constantly arrange more food. The disadvantage to this area is that the seatings are method for shutting to each other.
I had the Garlic Shrimp/Lamd Meatballs and Half chicken with brown gravy wild rice with mushrooms. My drink was a Dark night with Gin/Ginger/Cinnamon with a twist of lime. 😋😋😋My lady had seared steak with potatoes. She also had the Garlic Shrimp. Her drink was Sangria.
I have lived in the city for three years and this is the only place I take nearly every guest to. It is incredible. I HIGHLY recommend the chefs tasting/wine pairing if you plan to go. You can choose between red or white and it is such a fun date experience to get to try new foods together!
extraordinary spot for an impromptu breakfast with friends! The Bloody Mary was overall quite zesty. We had the Tortilla Española (potato with eggswhich had three little frankfurters and a phenomenal plunging sauce. For our mains, the French toast was a more modest part however such a one of a kind/fun place to dine and catch up..
Not many restaurants give a flawless experience, but Amada did. We stopped for Brunch and everything was fantastic, from the Sangria, to the bread, the French toast, to the Crab Benedict, everything was seasoned perfect and full of flavor.
Everything we had here was great, even for our kids. Tapas style menu is great for a variety of flavors and there is plenty of choices. The service was excellent and never left us waiting for anything. I would definitely come back here next time we are in Philly.
Great place in a splendid location! I was here with some friends for lunch on a Saturday. The place is pretty nice and the staff friendly. We decided to have the Combo, which includes food to share and a main course. Everything was very good, tasty and well plated. I choose the duck confit, I really like it. On the downside the menu didn’t mentioned blue cheese in my dish, which I don’t like, so next time I’ll ask to be removed.Speaking about menu, my friends were a little bit dissapointed with the brunch menu, they said the dinner menu has a lot more options to choose. Oh, the sangria was very good 😀 I’ll add some spanish speaking staff, it’s an Spanish place at the end.
Food is always delicious, service excellent. We were seated by the front door, in the alcove with the pig statue, and I was distracted the entire time by the absolutely filthy air vent near the ceiling. Every single space between the slats was full of dirt and dust. Usually everything at Amada is pitch perfect and I hope they get this cleaned -- it speaks to cleanliness overall, in my opinion.
Happy Hour. Sit at the bar.Very friendly and helpful. The sangria is a must.
Really sad we had such a bad experience here. I was looking forward to going here for the first time because of how many good things I’ve heard. We booked a reservation for 2:30 PM Sunday and it started out pretty bad from the start. We waited a while for a glass of water, and I swear it felt like there was zero air flow on such a hot day.Our waitress, who was kind but maybe not as informed as she should have been, told us they “may still be serving brunch” so we looked at the brunch and dinner menus as we were not informed which we could have. I found several things on the dinner menu that sounded amazing and allergy friendly for me, so when our waitress came back I went to order said items. She now said they were only serving brunch now. I was a little confused because prior she told us they “may” be serving brunch…alluding to the fact they they’d be serving other items outside of that. There wasn’t really much I could get on that menu but we decided to order considering we already got drinks and felt bad leaving after just ordering drinks. We were pretty disappointed that we were not informed of these things PRIOR to ordering drinks because we most likely would have just come back at another time. As I mentioned our waitress was kind but I really felt like she wasn’t being as informative as she really should have from the start.I got a salad and a shrimp tapas order, which was pretty okay. I kind of felt like the shrimp was something I could have made at home. While there, we ended up being the ONLY people in the restaurant and felt like it a suuuuper weird atmosphere. We felt completely unwanted in the restaurant. They cleaned all the tables around us and was left feeling super uncomfortable. I came back from the bathroom to our waitress taking all of our dishes and leaving a check….we had our food for maybe 30 minutes. We were there for an hour total. They completely rushed us out and treated us pretty poorly. We had a reservation, which should mean we’re fine to eat and the restaurant is able to accommodate since we weren’t just a walk in.I really did not enjoy my experience here. I understand Amada closes mid-day, but why take reservations and treat people poorly that come for those reservations. Overall a 2/10 experience. :(
Great food and your server was the best! Nothing disappointed here.
Loved the outdoor seating and the staff was attentive and helpful! My first time to Philadelphia and I loved it!
Such an awesome experience. The manager even stopped by to check in on our group. So yummy! The lamb meatballs were to die for and Im not a fan of brussel sprouts, but even I enjoyed theirs!
I organized my graduation dinner at Amada last week. Unfortunately the service was very very slow. After more than 2 hours we had still not been served our main courses and some of my guests had to depart before the mains were even served. The food was nice. I would recommend it to people on a casual occasion when they have a lot of time but not on an occasion where you are relying on good service in reasonable time.
Great tapas and drink selections. We had a reservation made a month in advance. It was busy so we had some difficulty getting our waitress other than that no complaints.
Stopped by for dinner with colleagues. Ordered about nine small plates for three people. There was more than enough food and it was all delicious. The cocktails were very good as well. The service exceeded our expectations and I cant wait to come back here in the future.
What a Spanish gem in Old City! Everyone was super attentive and kind. Also, great spot for brunch! The Bloody Mary was nice and spicy. We had the Tortilla Española (potato with eggswhich had three little sausages off to the side and a fantastic dipping sauce. For our mains, the French toast was a smaller portion but such a unique/fun preparation. The saffron rice bowl with lamb meatballs (you can swap out your proteinwas a very generous portion with multiple sauces you mixed together. All the flavors…amazing! Can’t wait to come back.
Service was good.Wait between dishes was too long.Very noisy. My friends liked their dish.I thought that the eggs with Benedict on bread with crab were very greasy and the crust of the bread was too hard.La torta de quest was nice and we the cocktails too.
We were walk-ins on a busy Wednesday night, and the hostess accommodated us very quickly. Was quite grateful as our reservations at Lucha Cartel didnt work out (we seated and ignored for over 15 mins, so we walked out). Glad it didnt work out, otherwise we wouldnt have such a great experience. We got a seat outside on the sidewalk and our waitress was super friendly! Bookmarked for next time were in town!
Review is a little late. Went here in the winter. The food was really great. Sat at the bar though, and did not think the bartender was that good. I’m not sure if he was new or training, but he put the wrong drink in front of my boyfriend then asked him if he wanted the drink he mistakenly set in front of another guest - who had taken a sip out of it. Thought it was a little odd. Said he was kidding after the fact, but only after we told him we wanted him to make a fresh drink for us. Honestly, staff turns over so quickly in this industry, I doubt he is even still here. Definitely worth the trip either way.
Excellent Food and Amazing Service! If you are a tourist and want to feel welcome and happy in a place, this is it!, they treat me with so much respect and kindness and the food was so delicious, it was a good experience.
Dined during restaurant week! Food was tasty.First course: I didn’t care for the peppers but I thoroughly enjoyed the cheese, sliced apples & honey!Second course was delicious; the hanger steak is amazing.I didn’t care for my dessert either (cheesecake). Overall my experience was great and I would come back to tryTheir regular menu for sure. Our waitress Gia was personable and attentive
Visited for restaurant week and it was delicious. The potatoes, hanger steak and rice were phenomenal. I look forward to returning for the regular menu.
A wonderful experience, delicious food, and spectacular service! The staff here was so helpful and informative on the drink options, the waitstaff asked up front about any allergies before placing our order, the food for the different course came out with good timing to not overload our table, and the blood orange specialty drink was delightful. I would absolutely go back again.
An amazing meal!! Had dinner there last night and it was superb!! Waiter was great, wonderful venue. Overall excellent!!
Great service. Amazing food. For a group of 8 ... the chefs menu is perfect and then some.
Carrot, quinoa salad was delicious! Empanada had a flavorful sauce. Mixed green salad had a distinctly fresh dressing. Server was knowledgeable about the menu. Good wine list. Great place for business meeting or date.
Have dined here many times. The food and the service are terrific. Tapas style menu which changes periodically. Don’t listen to the servers about doing 5 tapas per customer. That is way too much food if you also plan to have dessert. I would recommend 3 tapas per person. You can always order more food. The downside to this location is that the seatings are way to close to one another. Be prepared to feel like you are sharing a meal with strangers on either side of you.
Excellent food, very pleasant staff. Showed up in tourist clothing without a reservation at 5:30, and they sat us anyway. The 12 yr old kid loved the lamb meatball, garlic shrimp, and chorizo, I loved all of it. Solid happy our menu to boot. High class but no snobbery
Very nice brunch place! You can choose the tapas menu or the shareable courses. We chose to share the courses. The fried potato cakes were absolutely delicious and I could’ve eaten many of them. I would like to go back and try the tapas. My favorite main course was the saffron bowl because it was so flavorful. The French toast was also very interesting, almost like a churro.
Although I went to several retaurants during the restaurant week, Amada is hands down the best restaurant!!We went here for three course lunch. They worth far more than the price!!
Service here is amazing. The chef is so passionate about his food and the ambiance in the restaurant is so peaceful!! Definitely recommend this spot for a date night or a birthday celebration.Try as much food as you can :They have so many options that it was hard for me to choose a favorite!! Each has so much flavor and every bite is always unique. Really looking forward to coming back if I go to Philly again anytime soon...
A wonderful experience like always❤️ It is a tradition for me celebrate my birthday at Amada because it is special. Such a beautiful and romantic place with delicious food and the most amazing staff! Carmelo always does a great job! Thank you Amada!
I want to preface this by stating that we went here for restaurant week. So, take that into consideration.Overall: 7 out of 12 dishes were serviceable or good. The other 5 were pretty terrible. Although I have high praise for a couple of dishes, the rest of the experience wasnt enough to save them from mediocrity. In all honesty those two dishes could merit another visit to give the restaurant another shotPros:- The ham croquettes were the bomb dot com. These delectable pieces of heaven were flavorful and plentiful. I would visit the restaurant again just to eat that dish multiple times.- There was a prime rib open sandwich was so good that it could easily be considered a five star dish all by itself. This with the croquettes were the two stand out dishes in this restaurant.- The service was decent, with general politeness and support.Cons:- The rest of the food was utterly forgettable or just plain terrible.- some dishes that are supposed to be considered tapas were so small that they werent sharable at all.
