Hirschenpl., 6004 Luzern, Switzerland, Luzern
In a townhouse overlooking Hirschenplatz square, this charming hotel is a 4-minute walk from the iconic, art-lined wooden bridge Kapellbrücke and 8 minutes on foot from Luzern train station.Bright rooms with simple furnishings offer free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, plus minibars and coffeemakers. Chic and airy apartments with exposed-beam ceilings have living areas and kitchenettes. There's a wood-paneled Italian restaurant with a terrace overlooking the square. Breakfast and parking are available for a surcharge.
Location is great, many historic buildings and restaurants around it.Yes, the room is small ( as many reviews stated), but modern updated and neatly clean, led dimmable lights,We especially like their bed, assume you like "hard" matress.Yes, you need bring your luggage one floor up to be able use elevator ( but we used to bring luggage up/down for taking swiss trains).
In the heart of old Lucerne. Easy access to many restaurants and shopping areas. There is a lift on the second floor. But you have to carry luggage to the stairs on the first floor. There is no ice machine or a/c. If you are intolerant of the heat then this is not for you. We went in August which was still pretty hot during the day. Early Morning and late night can be chilly. There is a fan in the room which kept me comfortable at night and I kept the windows opened all the time. Shower water pressure is great. Room cleaning is on request. There is no room service for food ordering. There is a mini fridge, hair dryer, and coffee maker. The owner also owned the Japanese restaurant on the first floor. He let us checked in an hour early. Regular check in is 3pm. We came at 11am and was able to store our luggages in the restaurant while we explored and waited for check in time. Overall great stay and I would stay again. Definitely recommend individual a/c units to be installed in the room.
The location is fantastic but the rooms are small, hot, and smell a bit like mold.
Good location to visit the place however the room is too small too noisy and without air conditionner it was a nightmare to sleep in summer. For a 3 stars hotel it is too expensive ! Please avoid it !
The room was OK, but quite small. No air condition, so it was really hot. No staff, and the elevator started from the first floor..
Very hot tiny cramped place with no proper ventilation. No AC. The food is authentic and the couple are very hospitable.
Because of the covid pandemic, I was forced to reschedule a trip to Europe after booking a room with Altstadt Hotel Le Stelle Luzern. When I contacted the hotel to reschedule my reservation, not only did they refuse to reschedule, I also received a snarky, unprofessional email from the hotels general manager, Oliver P. Meier. To be clear, I wasnt asking for a refund. I just wanted to reschedule my stay. A request that was literally granted to be my a dozen other hotels without hesitation. If accommodation is a criteria youre looking for in a hotel, Id recommend you choose another option.
The location is very good because its in the center with good accessibility. The down-side is that the reception is located in another building down the street where we had to go to do the check in and the check out of the hotel, but the receptionists where very friendly! The hotel was spacious and it was well cleaned. It had a hairdryer and a coffee machine which was good! The shower was big although it smelled a little.Overall the experience was very good!
Guests pay for the great location only. Our room was dirty, too cold, and the bed was so hard we might as well have been sleeping on the floor. All the glass walls in the bathroom were dirty. The shelves near the mini fridge were dirty. The walls are marked up and it needs a fresh coat of paint. We arrived after 11pm so we had to walk in the rain with our luggage and I on crutches to check in at the Kroner, which was locked up. So we called on the buzzer and waited in the rain. Finally some guy came from the 3rd hotel across the plaza to check us in. Once we had checked in we had to walk back again in the rain, with our luggage with me on crutches and the man working at the hotel didnt even offer to help or hold an umbrella over me.The room was too cold and there were no extra blankets or pillows and no phone to call for an extra blanket. I had to go to the Kroner reception the next day to request one and then carry it back with me.We will not be staying there again. The only good thing I can stay is that the location was great and the cappuccinos and breakfast at the Kroner were good.
Very adequate, but very small. Bathroom and shower were very nice and spacious. Appreciated the portable fan in the room - it was unseasonably warm while we were there.
Checkin at this hotel was smooth, front office staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated in a great location, handy to everything. We stayed in Apt 431 which was great. It is a very large room with a kitchenette, 2 ring hot plate and convection microwave oven, cutlery, crockery etc, and a coffee machine (pods provided). Table and 2 chairs. The shower was a good size and water pressure excellent. The bed was big and comfortable and the pillows too. The room was light and airy and has two windows with a side view on to the plaza downstairs. There is no aircon but 2 fans provided that work well. There is no lift, so dont pack a heavy case and you will be fine! Really enjoyed our stay here, and would recommend.
View to inner courtyard meant view to 1 meter wide airshaft. No kettle, no iron (however mentioned in the offer). No table, no chair, no nightstand. Noisy fan, unbearable temperature, bad ventilation, minibar with not working cooler.
The location is great, very close to the rail station and restaurants. The bedding is clean, the mattress and pillows are comfortable. The reception staff Daniel is very nice, the lady and Oliver are fine, but can be better. The room on the 6th floor has bathroom in it. Basically in fine condition, it has no air conditioning, in summer time, it’s hot. The lift can only go from 1st floor to the fifth floor. It’s very slow.
Very small. Nice bathrooms, nice rooms, but no full length mirrors anywhere, lots of steps. No restaurant on site, have to check in at a different location, makes it confusing.
Clean and comfortable. Bathroom is really small but that wasnt an issue. Would stay here again for the location. Its right in the middle and close to the station. Highly recommended
An excellent location. A good price for expensive Lucerne. Great shower. Thank you for the coffee machine.Negative points are: no reception, spiral stairs while carrying a suitcase, a only a (hardbed and (hardchair for furniture. I would appreciate a small cheap table.
It was not bad. But the ceiling was too low then I hit my head several times... And there was no elevator that i already know. but the stairs was too narrow.. it was really hard to lift my luggage to top floor..haha
Great staff, stylish cozy and comfortable room. The kitchen was just the right size for us to enjoy making dinner during our stay.Great location in the heart of old town. We will stay there again when we come back to Lucerne!
Beautifully located boutique hotel with a great restaurant downstairs. Rooms are small but comfortable with the necessary amenities. We didnt spend too much time in the room so it was ok for us. Only thing is you better like stairs because the elevator is the slowest elevator Ive seen and no worth the wait. Steps from the heart of Lucerne. Cant beat the location.
Great hotel in the heart of Luzern! You do have to check in at the Kröne Hotel, just down the street, but the staff were very friendly and the rooms were well equipped with coffee, tea, and anything else we might need. There is very little soundproofing from the street, but for the location, you cant beat it!
Very cosy aparthotel. Clean, reception very froensly. Great locatin the centee. To be fair, I was looking for a room on the day and needed simply a sleep over. Economical price compared to >150CHF offers but you get what you pay for. Reminded me of the tiny 16 sq M apartment I lived in as a student in Paris 😂
Great place, great location, we had an apartment very spacious, heather worked well the only problem was the stairs. A bit difficult for us with our big luggages. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.
Loved our room for the most part. Started in the apartments next to la stelle on the top floor (441roomy, full kitchen, comfortable leather couch, nice bathroom, ok view of the square below but somewhat more of the street in front of the apartments. Your right in the center of old Town which is nice, restraurant le stelle has great food as well! Walked almost everywhere with ease and the free free bus fare with room purchase took care of any other local traveling and was easy to use. However a few things to keep in mind, we could not find any English channels on the TV, the ones they may have had it said the network wasnt available for it. Not a huge deal just like to have something on when Im in the room which wasnt a lot. Decided to throw Netflix up on a tablet but the wifi seemed to drop every 20 minutes or so but would come back fairly quickly. The lack of elevator was a pain but probably helped to work off all the Swiss chocolate we ate. They also need a bigger blanket for the bed. They give you 2 smaller ones that ended up becoming a sea of blankets keeping g us a bit too warm while there. The big reason for losing the 5th star though was the smell of mold in the shower in the bathroom when we got there which got more pungent over our 5 day stay even after blasting the shower with the provided cleaning spray we found. When we mentioned this to hotel staff at checkout they said just said "ok and?" Felt kind of rude after just had one of your nicest rooms for almost a week. Didnt expect a refund or anything we just wanted to know it would be fixed for the next guests.Would stay again though, great affordable hotel within walking distance of everything!
Room was great and very clean, better than expected. My favourite parts were the practical bathroom and coffee machine. The only con was that there is no lift.
Great place to stay! 7 min walk to the train station, 4 min walk to the river, and good restaurants all around. Located in the most adorable square. Pretty quiet, an occasional car will drive by that you can hear but nothing to worry about. Highly recommend!
The location is perfect, right in the middle of the pedestrian zone of the Old town with bakeries, restaurants, chocolateries or anything you might need only a few steps aways. The room is clean with a very comfortable bed, spacious bathroom and an equiped kitchen. We spent a nice, relaxing weekend here when we came to Luzern to run the halfmarathon. I can only recommend Altstadt Hotel Le Stelle.
The good things about this hotel are its location (center of old town and a few minutes walked from the Bahnand cleanliness.Unfortunately the bad out-weighted the good during our stay. As stated in the room descriptions some rooms do not have AC and ours was one of them. This meant we kept the windows open which worked great until around 3am when we were woken up by the echoing sound of tourists yelling and dragging luggage on the cobblestone streets. I do recognize this isnt the hotels fault but just a warning to other guests. The bed was ROCK hard. We noticed a trend in our stay in 5 hotels in Switzerland that most beds are firm, but this one was extreme. The hairdryer overheated after 5 minutes of use. There was no iron available for us to use as well.Lastly, when booking take note of which Altstadt hotel you are booking in, you will check in for all the them at the same place, they are all close to each other but it was confusing at first.
The hotel is in a fantastic location, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the accommodation was very clean. Unfortunately the rooms do not have air con, they provide a fan but this wasn’t sufficient and as our room faced onto another building (maybe 4-5 feet apartwhen we opened the windows to try to get some air inside we were kept awake all night by the smell of peoples cigarettes, talking (like the person was next to you!and other noises all night long. The ceilings were also extremely low and in such small rooms this feels claustrophobic.Perhaps rooms with a view were a different experience than ours. It was a shame as it was my 40th birthday and it did spoil our stay somewhat. No matter how great a location or friendly the staff if you have a poor nights sleep nothing else matters.
Great location, reasonable price for high season, comfortable bedding and kind staff. Not so good being next to the church and hearing the bell chime (twiceevery hour of the night (especially when youre not used to itbut otherwise, highly recommend it! Didnt try the breakfast so cannot comment. Personally i found it pricey for what it included.
We enjoyed our stay at Altstadt in Luzern. We had two suites and found both rooms to be nice. The bathrooms were nice and modern as were the kitchens. Both units faced the plaza and we found the area quite quiet in the evening. The rooms have no air conditioning but large windows allow for a good cross breeze. The only drawback of the hotel is that the stairs are quite steep and the doors are finicky to open. We found it quite funny as one room was a push and turn left and the other was a pull and turn right however, older folks would likely have trouble with the doors so this should be kept in mind. We really enjoyed our time as it’s right near everything. A great relaxing place to come back to after a long day out. Beds were comfortable.
We enjoyed our stay! The rooms are comfortable and clean. The location was perfect and the staff was very friendly and helpful at check-in/check-out.
We stayed in the apartment annex of the hotel. It was private, the room was modern, clean, and comfortable. WiFi worked well, and there was a TV (which happened to go black just before every goal of the World Cup match I was watching). The room overlooked a small plaza in Lucerne, which made it very noisy- big garbage trucks, street sweepers, rolling carts over the cobblestones. No air conditioning, but the windows opened and there was a fan provided. Great location, in the old part of town and easily accessible to shops and restaurants.
Great location! We had two small rooms. One in back was quiet but on an air shaft. One on the square had pleasant windows, but was noisy at night. Parking in Lucerne can be a hassle but they provide a valet service cheaper than we could have had at the public parking. Breakfast looked fine, wasnt included and we skipped it.
The room was well appointed a located in the old part of Luzern. Walking distance to restaurants, supermarket, train station and Chapel Bridge. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Good wifi connection and we would definitely recommend the apartment to others wishing to visit Luzern.
The hotel is in a very good spot in Lucerne: its in the heart of the city, surrounded by many stores and restaurants. Although the room was comfortable, the elevator is available only from the first floor (from the ground to the first floor its necessary to up by stairs). The hotel does not have a reception desk on its facilities. The reception is inside another Altstadt Hotel down the street (and its not 24:7- this was not a problem for us.
If you have heavy luggage or cannot easily walk up many flights of small, windy stairs, you should Stay Away From this place. Advertisement said nothing about stairs, or that we would be given an attic room which was impossible to stand up in due to the slanted roof. The only clear space was the bathroom and near the stairs and where the bed was located. It is difficult to find the place: nowhere will you find the name of this establishment on the building, or on the place where you sign in. It took me two tries of getting information from a restaurant cook which shares the address of this location, to discover where to check in: at another hotel the Krone down the street. When I explained that our luggage was too heavy for all the stairs (6th floor, really?there was no offer to switch rooms even though I was informed they owned 5 hotels in the vicinity and in fact discovered they could easily have made a switch to the hotel where we had to check in, not the one with all the stairs. This is not a place to stay if you have any of the problems we had. We are 68 and 71 and still, no suggestion or offering to change rooms even though they knew what was involved in using the room, and getting to the room. The clerk in the morning had a little more sympathy but could not offer any resolution as her authority figure was unavailable until Tuesday (as I found out from my booking agent). There are many other reviews under the Krone hotel name which I did not see prior to this booking, or I would never have booked there for ethical treatment reasons. Please BEWARE if you have heavy luggage or trouble with stairs. Also to get to this place you would usually cross a bridge which then had maybe 30 steps up to a plaza to get to the hotel location - once again not easy going if you are carrying heavy luggage. That is not their fault, but if you are reading this, it is just another thing to consider before booking at either place.
The location is excellent, the best aspect of this hotel. Arriving with a lot of luggage, we were disheartened to discover that there was a climb up a narrow staircase before reaching the elevator. The room is small, but clean and modern. The buffet continental breakfast was rather expensive; I recommend finding breakfast elsewhere, if convenient. There were misunderstandings regarding coffee and toast, which our server addressed very ungraciously.
Great location. Well equipped apartment overlooking a nice square. Very clean modern apartment. Friendly staff and only a ten minute walk from the train station.
Very clean hotel room in a wonderful location in the heart of Lucernes walking district. The room was very utilitarian with only a bed and small bathroom, but perfect for us as we didnt go to Lucerne to spend time in the hotel room. All in all, a great place to stay and a very friendly staff.
The hotels buffet breakfast was very limited. Bread, yogurt, cheese, ham, spreads and drinks. The room was quite nice with a view of the town however without air conditioning, it can get warm and stuffy.
Actually, that should be -10!Never, ever let this hotel try and sell you the Apoartment Hirsch, the one with all the beams that looks so appealing. There are more defects in this so called apartment than in a leaky boat. Sadly, the Front Office Manager is deaf to complaints and sees nothing wrong with this awful accommodation. Someone is going to fall down the stairs trying to find their way to the bathroom in the dark. That will cost the hotel a lot of money but the Front Office Manager is completely oblivious to all of the following faults:1. The "apartment" is on the 4th floor. No lift. He was the young man who very kindly brought our luggage up for us. He also assured us that this was a better room than the other one he had available on the second floor. How wrong we were not to at least go and see it. On his recommendation, we stayed with the Hirsch appartment.2. Looked nice when we went in. You open the door and there are more stairs up to the room. The bathroom door is right next to the top of the stairs.3. When we opened the cutlery drawer in the kitchen, we found just 2 forks, 2 knives, 2 desert spoons, 2 coffee spoons. What use is a dishwasher when you only have 2 of everything? No washing machine. Just a dishwasher you cant use. Barely any clothes hanging area either. Just 2 bars, both at a height suitable for mens clothes but far too short for my dresses. Of course, no iron and ironing board either.4. Never mind. We went out and bought a vegetable peeler and looked for a restaurant. Another mistaken choice. Still, at least we could go back to our cosy apartment. Wrong! When we turned the lights on, strip lights blared at us. Whats more, turn the strip lights off and the entire apartment is plunged into darkness that includes the electric sockets by the bed. NO bedside lamps. No mobiles charging. Absolutely nothing. Either garage blare or dark as a grave.5. Then I realised that the place was freezing. No heating! Maybe underfloor heating was installed but it wasnt on! I wasnt feeling well so I got into bed and piled my duvet and most of my husbands plus the one single blanket provided for a double bed on top of me. Thanks to the complete lack of lights, we had to use our phone torches to find the bathroom. One foot wrong and wed have been down those steps.6. The channel list includes BBC World. Try and turn that on! "Smart Card not available"! Cheap! Very cheap!!!!7. I phoned the Front Desk from my mobile and spoke to a very nice lady (Frau Potewho was very sorry indeed that we were so unhappy. She definitely said we would not be charged for that night and offered us a room in the Hotel Krone, which I accepted. Some time later, we decided to leave Lucerne the next morning and never try and stay there again! I phoned Frau Pote again and told her we were leaving. I was in tears by the time I ended the call (again on my mobile - no phone in this "apartment".Beware all who enter this house! If there is a fire, you had better be awake or youre dead! How can a hotel manage to make such a mess of what could be a very nice ATTIC APARTMENT?
Great location but the room was very small. It also was not air-conditioned and on the third floor. Fortunately, it didnt get too hot during our stay but I imagine it could get very uncomfortable when it gets hot.
We spent two nights at the Alstadt Hotel. It was very comfortable, quiet, and in a great location for wandering about Lucerne. Breakfast was in the other hotel property, and was excellent each morning. Id definitely stay there again.
Just an all around great experience. We had an "apartment room" for one night and given our choice - we could have moved in for quite some time! Our room was complete with a small kitchen (fridge, sink, toaster oven, coffee pot, etc...), gracious space for a sofa and coffee table to relax in the evening, and a large queen bed. Our bathroom was excellent and the location of the hotel was in the heart of the older part of town - perfect to just roll out and start sightseeing/shopping (and eating). The only complaint, which has nothing to do with the hotel, was the 7am road crew that decided it was a perfect morning to begin jackhammering below our windows. Thankfully, for the fridge, a cold, early morning beer took the edge right off...! :)We will be back.....
This hotel is located at city centre just 5 min walk from chapels bridge. Room is small but clean. Toilet is attached with the room. Breakfast doesnt have much varieties, but its included in the price. Luzern hbf is just 10min walk from here. So location is perfect however price is high...
Great location. The bedroom and bathroom were small and basic, but this was expected. Everything was clean and fairly new. Breakfast, free but in a different hotel, was great. I would definitely stay here again.
Great hotel located within walking distance of of most sights in old town Lucerne. The staff are nice, the room was good and the buffet breakfast was ok. All in all, we enjoyed our stay.
This was our first stay at the Alstadt Hotel Le Stelle Luzern and we were moderately satisfied with our stay. The hotel room was clean and comfortable. We had a Hirschenplatz view and although it was a nice view, there was unfortunately construction going on during our stay and it started (and woke us up!at 6:30 AM! We were shocked at how early this began and were not able to get back to sleep. This was our only real complaint during our stay. Breakfast was decent and held in the other hotel down the street where the reception desk is as well.
Very friendly staff, great breakfast and clean rooms. However, the bed was very hard, and the hotel rooms were located down the street from the reception and breakfast area.
Small, but very clean and cosy room. Comfortable bed and tasty breakfast (in a different hotel, but only around 1 min walk :)Also, the food in the restaurant downstairs was very good.We had a room with a view on the wall, unfortunately, but there is an option for a more expensive one with a view on Hirschenplatz.Overall, very good price-quality ratio for Old Town in Luzern.
