Adventure park with roller coasters and vertical drops, plus rides and attractions for younger kids.
Alton Towers in Leek
Description
Privilege
I love this theme park so much. Definitely the best in the UK. Its so big and lots of walking (and uphillbut that just adds to it. The grounds are beautiful. There are rides for everyone but if you love big rides this is the theme park to go to. We went for the scarefest I was expecting a bit more "Halloween" vibes around the park but they did have a stage of performances throughout the day, some cute food and drink vendors and firepits and seating on the green at the front of the park. Id always chose this theme park over any other.
MoreBirthday treat from the missus. Absolutely fantastic day out. we managed to hit the majority of the larger rides and could have continued right up to until 9pm (Park stays open for longer over the scare festbut due to a broken toe, we called it a day after 10hours in the park. Prices wasnt too bad around the park and I thought they were quite reasonable for food and drink. We had large Hot dogs as a midday snack which cost £15. Bottles of coke were £2.70.Queue times wasnt too bad for the big rides , I think the longest we queued was under 2hours. Dont have any negative comments at all.
MoreWhat a waste of money. I’m only giving this 2 stars for the scare fest mazes and the dungeons which was enjoyed by all. (At an extra expense).Rides: Rita closed smiler closed 13 closed!13 reopens queues for 4 hours to get on the ride, which wasn’t worth it. The graffiti all around the wooden holding pens kept your attention. Especially watching and listening to small children read out loud the messages. We managed to get on a whole 3 rides and do the scare fest!Really not worth the £600 on tickets for it.Then food £10-£15 per meal at the chicken place. Where the tables are filthy and teenagers will trample you.Toilets go first thing and try your best to not want to go again. The attendants were apologetic and it’s not their fault. They need more staff to man the footfall to keep up.Oblivion ride attendants need a customer service re train, or fired. The sarcastic comments and the sniggering are uncalled for. If it’s too much to do the job politely and professionally might not be the job for you. Will say all the staff were polite everywhere else and the grounds are stunning.Worse £1000 day trip for my family ever spent.
MoreCame with my family today.xx its was the Scare Fest at Alton towers...had a good day.best ride was the Wicker man ride.gose really fast..and thrilling to go on..went on it twice....was very busy ..some rides had waiting times for Hrs.so did not go on Everything. Smiler was closed bit of a SHAME.🎢🎡🎠😐😏still enjoyed ourselves...
MoreBrilliant theme park which caters for all sorts of people. All the rides are well maintained and the queues were not too bad.If you need a break from the rides, Alton Towers is set in beautiful grounds and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to relax in.
MoreHad an amazing 2 days at Alton towers for the Scarefest on Sunday and then round 2 on Monday. Although the park was busy the queues were well managed, we didnt really wait more than 40 minutes. I havent been for a few years and It was really great. Have all ready planned a trip for next year and cant wait at all. Yes the food can be a bit expensive but you can always bring along your own and buy some treats onsite.
MoreI havent been to Alton Towers for over 10 years and was not disappointed when I returned today. All my favourite rides were still there and some new ones. The park is clean and well maintained and the toilets were also spotless. We never had to queue for the majority of the rides which was an added bonus. The 4 and a bit hour drive from Glasgow was definitely worth it!
MoreSo so much walking but a great day. Ques were really reasonable too! I mean, I probably wouldnt try to go in school holidays but week day was fine. Lots of great rides, lots of variety.
MoreThe castle is beautiful and the gardens are an incredible. first time I am going here and enjoying it the rides are fantastic and compare them to other its awesome. Lots of rights are here and all are open. Lots of varieties you never disappoint here. Most beautiful park specially the garden lake and male area. When you see this its a beautiful scenario and its never remove in your mind. The castle ground is stunning and rich in history. Its a unique setting in the middle of an outstanding castle and gardens make of Alton one of the most unique theme park experience in Europe. The price of ticket is very expensive when you actually thinking about it. Queues are horrible.
MoreAbsolutely love this place! Its by far the best theme park in the UK. Personally I prefer it to Disney World as its not ridiculously overpriced.Set in the most stunning grounds and rich in history.Aim to visit at least once a year, always have an amazing time.Lots of rides, all open (usually one or two closed when we visit)Slightly disappointed the refill stations werent switched on as we brought cups from a previous visit to reuse.Unlimited Photo bundle is well worth it. We managed to get 18 photos for £20.The rides are incredible, lots of variety... Great for families with young children too due to the designated cBeebies area.Highly recommended visiting if youve never been! You will not be disappointed! Can save a fortune booking in advance as opposed to paying on the day or at the door.
MoreIve been coming here for years on and off with the kids, Alton towers is the biggest and most extreme of all theme parks in the UK.It has plenty to do for all ages with Zones for the little kids under 8 as well as extreme Coasters like Smiler etc for 13+There plenty of choices when it comes to food and drink with a £9 refillable drink option.Great day out for all the family 👍🏼🙂
MoreI recently visited Alton Towers. Its a well maintained and clean park with plenty of bins and toilets which is great. I was there all day and I felt like I didnt have enough time to see the park in all its glory. There is so much to see.The park is bursting with life from all the thrill seekers all the way to the fish in the aquarium to the wildlife that live in the gardens. Its truly a fantastic place to visit. Even if you are not one for the crazy roller coasters. There is an abundance of shops for little trinkets or something to eat. Unfortunately, one of the downfalls is the food on the site. It is vastly over priced for the poor quality of food you receive. Some of the attractions were sadly closed. Such as the Hex ride and the Haunted House which was a shame. Also even though you pay to get in to the site, you will have to pay an extra fee if you want to go visit the Dungeon. My personal favourite part of the park was the aquarium. They have a vast amount of fish from all shapes and sizes. They also have a starfish bay where you can touch a starfish, with hand-wash bays to be able to clean your self off after. The staff were fantastic. Really friendly to approach and very helpful.I arrived on the first day of Oktoberfest and that was brilliant. They had alsorts going on with some brilliant entertainment to keep you occupied. To conclude i recommend visiting this site as it is worth every penny you pay to get in, even if you are not a thrill seeker and are not interested in the rides. Though be careful about the overpriced, and poor quality food.
MoreFor toddlers, worth every penny.I visited during term time so managed to get an adult & toddler ticket for £25 (plus £6 for parking).Cbeebies land has a surprising amount of things to do for babies, toddlers and young children. They have a schedule of shows throughout the day with a variety of different characters. All of which youre able to have your picture with afterwards, free of charge. Our 15 month old is 0.6m tall and managed to get on almost all of the rides (accompanied by an adultwhich he loved.I do recommend arriving for the shows about 10 minutes early if you want to get a good view.Be aware youre not allowed to take a pushchair into the queue. They do have pram parks all over the area to store your pram whilst youre in the queue, but if the queues are long and your child likes to be carried like mine, it can be difficult. You do have to leave your pram at your own risk and they accept no responsibility for stolen items so be careful. The food and drink is reasonably priced and they have a good variety so its easy to find something your little one will enjoy.
MoreStayed at the enchanted forest for a couple of nights, nice lodge which accommodated 5 of us comfortably. Breakfast was included with the room, hosted at the crooked spoon. We booked dinner here for the two nights also. I have to say the food was excellent, hot and fresh. If youve read bad things about it, some people just like complaining, service was also excellent.we had two days in the park. Played extraordinary golf on the 3rd day before heading home. There were a few issues with different rides. Five rides over the two days were closed for unknown technical reasons, oblivion didnt open on Monday and was late on Tuesday. Smiler, Rita, thirteen and spinball wizzer, all had issues at some point. Even the sky ride was hit and miss as to when it was working properly.Overall an enjoyable few days being more relaxing as we werent in the mass exodus from the car parks in the evening.
MoreWe had a fab day out but many of the photo opportunities were not available on the rides for younger family members - or you had to pay extra which is, quite frankly, immoral. The site was lovely and clean and the staff were lovely. Those with disabilities can get an accessibility pass but this is not made clear...it would be great if everyone, on arrival, was told this.
MoreWent with the family and my friend Had a fantastic day, everything went smoothly, from the express parking, to the fast track the staff were amazing. Looked at some of the queue times (100mand I’m glad we got the fast track. Platinum pass is cool but you won’t get to go on everything more than once’s unless your going for one ride the whole day. So gold pass is fine. Well done for the kids section the shows and meet and greet are nice touches. Will be back for halloween. Keep up the good work.
MoreIt is one of the best theme parks, I have ever visited. The place is really amazing and holy covered with nature. All the places over there are fantastic and also you need at least 2 days to fully enjoy the theme park. If youre the one, who loves adventures, then this park is for you. Do visit it and make your holiday memorable.
MoreWe had a great day here, some great rides, and some of the old rides still delivering great thrills. However, surprising amount of rides breaking down through the day, food an absolute rip off, some of the rides need some TLC, Nemesis needs a lick of paint and a tidy up in general, some love for an older but still awesome ride! Finally parking should be included with these ticket prices, and we were nearly blocked in because the car beside us was not in their slot properly, and one at the end of the row for exit completely blocked the row so we had to reverse all the way up the row !!
MoreWe went in a group and we had to split in order to get to enjoy as much as possible. The queues were very long and the waiting time between 30-75minutes. If you want to enjoy a few rides keep in mind that you will be spending hours in the queue for 2-3minutes/ ride in the best case. For the price of £50/ticket that is just a horrendous waste of money. Prices for food and drinks and not really as bad but you will be eating at least 2 times if you spend the whole day there and that is something when you got a big family. I did enjoyed the gardens, very nice and pleasant to have a walk around. Overall, I will not be returning.
MoreAbsolutely love this place. Took my youngest daughter on the main rides and she loved them we also had a day in the splash park and that was fantastic. We also stopped in the Alton towers Hotel. What can we say absolutely spotless great entertainment at night and the staff absolutely fantastic. Big shout out to the bar staff who were run of there feet all night but always had time for a smile. Will definitely be going back soon
MoreFantastic Theme Park. I love everything about it. It was very well organised, clean and lots of fun. The app for checking how long is queue to different rides its really helpful. If you plan to go to the restaurant I recommend book earlier.
MoreFirst time visiting any theme park ever, and boy did they deliver! Nearly every ride I went on blew my mind, especially Smiler, Galactica, Wicker Man and Nemesis. Then there is the location. Which, oh wow, its stunning! The old mansion, the beautiful gardens, the way the rides are hidden and incorporated into the geography of the area, all of it is perfect.
MoreAlton towers theme Park is great. Set in an amazing location with a beautiful landscape surrounded. Rides are superb, but unfortunately the ques are the only thing to let it down. We arrived as it opened and left as it closed, yet we only managed to squeeze in 5 rides including lunch. So realistically, with the cost of the park, the food and drinks and the parking, worked out a very expensive day for 5 rides. Id like to add, that this was on a school day too, so not even during school half term. Would I go again? Yes of course, but would try to better time my visit during the cooler months in hope I could achieve more rides in a day.
MoreHad a wonderful time staying in the Stargazing Pods for a couple of nights. Very comfortable considering the compact size.Ate at the Secret Garden Restaurant, a bit pricey considering the basic menu but food was good.Overall a good couple of nights and one day at the park which was awesome, would definitely recommend suitable fast passes. We got so much done in one day.
MoreAfter going to Alton Towers many times in last year. I decided to buy an annual pass. Love it. Staff are very nice. Its worth noting if you intended on going to the towers midweeks, you should go March to May or September to November. Weekdays during June, July are very busy with School trips and you will wait less during weekends. Overall I recommend anyone looking for some adrenaline on the rollercoasters.
MoreThe rides were really fun and the wait times werent too bad. The app really helps you plan, because it tells you how long it takes to get to the next ride and how long the queue currently is. Get your walking legs on as it is sizable theme park to navigate but it helped by the lovely environments between the rides. The food and drink here does leave you wanting as it is quite expensive for what you get
MoreScenic theme park providing fun and rides for the whole family. It was raining showers throughout the day, which made us very wet at one point. The highlight of my day would have to be the baby frogs that were all over the path adjacent to the lake. I handled quite a few, returning them to the banks of the lake; absolutely loved them.
MoreGreat day out. Be prepared to queue for rides, but its worth it. Comfy shoes a must as lots of walking. Rides breakdown regularly too. However the thrill and excitement far outweigh these problems. Worth checking out website for special offers and fast passes for certain rides.
MoreWOW!!! The grounds are absolutely lovely. We all had such a great time. The roller coasters are so much fun and theres plenty for smaller kids to enjoy. Cant wait to return!
MoreFirst time going here. Will most definitely not be the last time. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The rides are fantastic and comparing them to universal or Disney, they come out just as exciting! Oblivion was jaw dropping, thirteen was unexpectedly amazing, wicker man being a wooden coaster thrashes you around.Tickets were £38 for each adult when booking in advance, and so was well worth it. The turnstiles were a bit awkward as if you didnt get through in one rotation or it locks, you cant use your ticket again. A friendly member of staff will sort this out for you though. All in all, a thrilling and brilliant day, book in advance, dont bring bags with you if you can help it (I brought a coat with plenty of pockets), as they are not allowed on rides. Fast track would have helped as the queues on an off peak weekday were still upwards of 30 minutes, so essential on a holiday or weekend.
MoreWhat an amazing park. The rides are incredibly as well as everything in between (gardens, lakes, meal areas). Although you might get some time to go into a ride, while youre queueing you are already "inside" the ride so anticipation is great. All the staff is friendly and helpful. Really hope I can come back.
MoreI enjoyed myself, but wish the rides lasted longer, because when you are waiting a good 20+ minutes and the rides last less than 2 minutes it does not feel good. Beautiful scenery though, and I did enjoy the rides regardless of the duration. My shoulders were a little sore for a day or two afterwards as I was strapped down tightly but Id rather be safe than sorry. Staff were very polite and enthusiastic.
MoreBest to go mid week, Tuesday was lovely and quiet. Clean and safe with friendly staff. Using the app was a must for navigation and update on queue times as well as buying car parking. The fast passes meant we were able to go on all the fast pass rides in one day with a couple of extras, it also means the walk to get to each ride is a lot shorter - added up over every ride this distance made a big difference on our tired feet.We went for two days and didnt need the fast passes for the second day as all fast pass rides were done in day one. If going again, we would only get Gold passes. By the time you do every ride (fast pass and non fast pass ridesonce you can go first thing on any you want to repeat or end of the day (or pay for a one ride fast pass if you have a favourite). Unless youll repeat the same ride several times over days, only gold fast pass needed.Standard parking was fine, little point in paying extra. Take out food wasnt bad value or quality but the sit in food was incredibly overpriced and very average quality. Down side was that some rides advertised as fast pass were either closed for days or worse dont even exist anymore! Not five stars as so much required extra money, the teens wanted the rides but to take the littler ones to Cbeebies was an additional cost, as was the dungeon show etc. Given it cost £00s to go for a family, this should be within the ticket cost for a repeat visit to be value for money.
MoreWent to Alton Towers with family. All staff we interacted with was extremely friendly and helpful. A lot of activities for people of all ages. The gardens and aquarium were my favorite parts! Be prepared for a lot of walking but definitely a great time.
MoreGreat park for grown ups. High adrenaline rides and fun activities. A day trip is too short time, to completely enjoy the park you will need couple of days as too many rides and too much of crowd. But if it’s your second visit you know what you like and where to go.
MoreIf anyone is not sure if they are going to have a great time at this resort, dont!! Alton Towers is amazing for grown ups and kids alike. It s unique setting in the middle of an outstanding Castle and gardens make of Alton one of the most unique theme parks experiences in Europe and maybe the world.Super recommend!!
MoreThis was a beautiful day spent with even more beautiful people, its just one of those things you wish you had more time on. We went on a weekend which meant longer lines. Would advise you to go on a good weekday so get to experience more rides😊
MoreThe most beautiful amusement park I’ve ever visited! So lush, with a lovely little pond. Great selection of rides, and very clean. Recommend getting fast passes as queues can be long.
MoreGreat place but rides spread across acres of land. So if you have mobility issues, be prepared to walk for a very long time. My daughter went on only 7 rides throughout the whole day because of the queing times. Each ride had at least 30 to 45 minutes queing time.
MoreEveryone in our group thoroughly enjoyed our day at Alton Towers. We managed most of the rides in one day even without a priority ticket. we reached there about 45 minutes before opening time. every ride has some special experience. We ranked the main rides in the following order: Smiles, Wicker Man, Oblivion, Galactica and Rita. One positive aspect of Alton Towers is that its a scenic, beautiful place. We recommend visiting the Gardens. It is the most beautiful part of Alton Towers.Things to be aware of and could improve. There is a looong walk from car parks to the entrance and you have to do it on the way back as well when you are tired. Secondly the expected wait time on display is way out of sync. we had to wait around 80 minutes for Smiles when the app kept saying 40 minutes waiting time. Thirdly be prepared to walk, we walked 10 miles on the day.
MoreGreat day out, cheap deal on Merlin pass, otherwise very overpriced. Nice walks and attractions. Pays best off weekdays and out of holidays to avoid big queues. Visit of castle should be a must and lovely walks in gardens. Good food options.
MoreShame about the prices. Way too expensive when you actually think about it. Queues are horrendous unless you pay a fortune for fast pass. And if you are only taking your children and not really going on many rides even worst. But there are good things too. The castle is beautiful ( shame it hasnt been restored yet, if they ever will, it would be an amazing achievementand the gardens are an incredible refuge from all the chaos around you. Fun paths, quiet ones and almost secret ones. Up and down theres paths everywhere. When you reach the Chinese temple in the lower lake the noise is almost gone. I walked around there for hours while my kids were on the rides. It was so peaceful. Beautiful. The only other downside was that even though there were some security guards walking around once in a while there were still people smoking stuff they shouldnt around there. The smell really ruined it.
MoreGreat day out, but sometimes too much time spent in the queue. If you make it in the early morning you have more chances to do all the rides. If the weather is nice, is a good option for a day out.We always stay a night over.
MoreVisited during a school training day in April so it was a little quieter than average, with the longest wait time around 30 minutes. Too much to do in a day and so much walking, so Im glad we spent extra on the express parking. They dont have physical maps anymore, instead you have to download the app which isnt massively helpful. The staff all seemed in good spirits though and were happy to help.
MoreFantastic theme park with plenty of rides for thrill seekers as well as your little ones. If youre an adrenaline junkie Id highly recommend doing the Big 7 (Oblivion, Smiler, Wicker Man, Th13teen, Rita, Nemesis and Galactica). Some of the food and drinks are ridiculously priced but then that is expected from such a location...Carry your own snacks and drinks if you want to save some ££.The resort is absolutely humongous so be ready to walk to visit the various themed areas - I suggest taking the Sky Ride to make your life easier; great views too! However, be prepared to queue on busy days - up to 60-90 minutes on some of the popular rides!
MoreIncredible theme park! All the rides are so much fun, perfect for any thrill seeker. And the gardens are beautiful, I could wander through them for hours, feed the fish and ducks if you find the wee pond, and keep your eyes open for the catfish.
MoreThe theme park is amazing! Me and my friend went there for two days right after three days from opening, and we didn’t actually queue for any of the rides on the first day(Wednesday), and the longest queue I had on the second day (Thursdaywas Rita and it only cost about 15 minutes on the queue. The smile is my favorite ride and I took it for five times on these two days, it was amazing!! The second favorite might be Thirteen and the third favorite is the wicker man. All the rides have a small storyline and I love the out of expectation’s railway track design! The food stands were not all open now maybe because it’s not the tourist season but it’s fine for me and you still can find foods to eat in the theme park. Me and my friend had the pizza and pasta all you can it, we paid it with our Merlin annual pass so it only cost £12 per person, and the food was fine there. Besides, I think the price are quite fair for the amusement park, so we didn’t complain much and also brought our lunch on the first day.For the transportation, we took the X41 bus from D&G company, and this is the only bus going to the Alton tower during the whole day, so please be on time to the bus station! While the return bus is at 17:30 and it’s quite late because the theme park is close at 16:00, so people need to wait for half and an hour. Also, there’re limited seats on the bus, so it’s high possibility to stand on the bus, and this might be annoying since people are very tired after playing for the whole day. Hope there’ll be more buses for return.Overall, Alton tower theme park is 10/10 for me, I had a great time there and will definitely visit in the future!
MoreAn excellent place to take the kids. Plenty of rides to keep the little ones entertained all day while the teenagers enjoy the big rides. The queues normally arent long, with around 30 minutes for the busiest attractions on a busy day.
MoreWas fairly quiet. Got on all main rides with ease, one or two not working, can check with their app. Rides are great. Food is limited and expensive but plenty of places for a picnic if you take your own
MoreWasnt too busy as out of season and we got a brilliant deal. Lots of entertainment and staff were great. The gangster granny ride had my kids shocked at the end it was brilliant. Their sea life was brilliant too, kids loved it and was free. Bring masks
