Altitude Gym - Rock climbing gym in Clarence-Rockland, Canada
Great place to climb. Plenty of bouldering and roped climbing available. Theyve had multiple expansions so theres a large training area and even more bouldering now. They also have a new outdoor bouldering area which is an awesome way to boulder while enjoying great weather.
A truly awesome climbing gym with an awesome combination of bouldering, top rope, and lead with a bouldering section outside, a big weight room, many tall lead areas, moon boards, and my other awesome areas
This gym is really great and has lots of options for beginners and intermediate, theres even rock climbing games :)
The walls are super tall, they have just about every piece of training equipment you could want, and the outdoor bouldering area is top notch.
Beautiful church building turned into climbing gym
I just started climbing about 3 months ago. The staff was very friendly with explaining the structure of membership to me and explaining the different types of climbing in the gym. I recently took my top rope certification with Cédric. I was the only English speaking person in the class, but he took the time to explain to me in English when I didnt quite understand what he was saying in French. Hes a fantastic instructor. The gym downstairs is a great addition to the facility as you can go and weight train before or after your climb. I highly recommend this place to anyone interested in learning about rock climbing and challenging themselves mentally and physically.
Awesome bouldering and climbing. My first time climbing alone and I had no issues with the auto belay!! Fantastic place
Actually, I have never done rock-climbing at this gym. However, all of my 3 kids are fond of rock climbing. Now that the other place in Ottawa (vertical realityis permanently gone, they will do more rock climbing at Altitude Gym in future for sure.
Huge place with tons of routes to climb. Cool building as it’s located in an old church
Awesome place. Its large and theres lots of areas to explore. Definitely recommend
Great bouldering gym, theres tons of space for many routes. Their new outdoor installations are really fun, and the new gym in the basement is very big and well equipped. I use altitude as my regular gym now too
Amazing climbing gym. There new outdoor bouldering area rocks. They have everything bouldering, top roping, lead, auto belay, full fitness training area.....
Awesome place with lots to do for me and my 10 year old. Really helpful and friendly staff.
Awesome place to go. This place will blow your mind. Never thought someone could come up with that variety of technology for climbing 😂 Just go, take the whole family 👌
Kids had such a blast.Awesome staff and a great start for future climbers.Cool activity at low cost!
Really nice climbing center, pretty big for bouldering and top-rope/lead climbing. Very friendly staff and good music too😉
Biggest climbing gym I’ve seen, located in an old church. Expanded and remodelled considerably, but you can still see the old ceiling fresco of a soaring dove, and church pews provide sitting benches in some areas. A labyrinthine interior with many rooms on many levels, from bouldering to four storey textured lead climbs with crevice features, plus a climber weight and high tech practice room, and the Zen room for quiet stretching replete with ballet bars and mirror. Soon a boxing room and outdoor bouldering facilities will be added. Targeted at all levels of experience, including a unique family-friendly theme park called the clip ‘n climb.I brought my 13 year old daughter for top roping and bouldering, her first experience outside the clip ‘n climb. She has decided we should make it a weekly outing.
Ive been here a handful of times. The facilities are really big, clean and high quality. The training area is a great addition to the actual climbing. The style of the setting for boulders often falls towards big, powerful comp-style climbing, usually advantaging taller athletes. There is a pretty significant lack of slab climbs; there are a couple slab sections, but theyre pretty small are greatly overshadowed by the overhangs and caves. In general, most of the climbs are not super technical, even at the higher grades, and can be muscled through without much thinking. The setting is just a bit uninspired and lacks variety. The top rope/lead climbs are often more mentally stimulating than the boulder problems. However, Ive found that some of routes have a lot of stretchy moves that make the them significantly harder, and sometimes undoable for shorter climbers. While I would say that the grades for the boulders are on the softer side, the grading for the routes is definitely stiff. The staff are fine, although they sometimes come off a bit bored/unenthusiastic. The washrooms downstairs defintiely need touch ups and a serious deep-cleaning. Also, the walls on the boulder upstairs are quite high, and you can take some pretty nasty falls. I took a rough fall from the top once and thankfully wasnt injured, but if you fall in a strange way and especially if youre less experienced and havent learned how to fall safely, you could get hurt.
Top of the line, professional garde climbing installation. My 10 years old loved it!
Altitude is awesome! Today was my first time and I loved it. It was clean, the community was supportive and it was a chill vibe there.
Good climbing, good staff. Easy entry with membership.
Very expansive facility, reasonably priced for day passes I had a fun time (I am a beginner)
Great route Setting, events, and nice to have some lead walls in the city. Ive had consistently bad experiences with unsupervised kids however (both with parents and coaches).
Alright climbing gym but not as many puzzles as other bouldering places. Cool building though, it used to be a church
Great place to climb. Organized and ontop of their safety policies to make sure everyone has a fun time climbing.
Staff are known to harass some clients. Unethical business approach that is highly profit/market oriented and less so about meeting community demands/aspirations. Owners have posted pro trucker convoy material and also anti-BLM in the past. Bouldering style very reachy and jumpy.
Well rounded gym. Lots of bouldering, top roping (including autobelaysand lead climbing. Very high in the annexe section. The new workout area is amazing. Many climbing walls, and a a great variety of cardio, strength, and training aparatus. I think some people use it even juat for a gym.
A rock climbing gym in an old church? How sacrilegious but also how very cool. Its a busy place but the climbers are friendly and non-intimidating. The vibe is very relaxed/chill.I wish they offered more classes/workshops but I think in time, they will.
I’m happy that I checked out this climbing gym during my stay at Ottawa. They have 2 levels, we didn’t even notice the basement until we finished our session and walked out side. In basement they have those moonbaords, gym and bouldering walls. (They only accept liquid chalk)
Kilter board, Moonboard (2019), tension board all beside each other which was great! So many climbing areas, some tall routes! Didn’t get to climb any routes or problems set by the gym, because of pandemic rules - was only able to play in one designated zone and we hit the training boards. Cool gym, will definitely come back next time and climb in the main areas when I’m in the Ottawa-Gatineau area.
Its a fun place to go, but the staff doesnt help you much and if its your first time going they dont explain or show anything to you. The prices are quite high and half of the time when I go there most of the walls I want to climb are closed off. Kind of sucks I have to pay full price when I cant use more than half and they ask you not to stay too long.
An amazing rock climbing gym, even when itd busy theres always space to climb. Great environment and the staff are always willing to assist. They deserve the 5 stars.
Friendly staff, good variety of difficulties and large space. Got pretty busy later in the night so you may be sharing space but thats honestly fine. Best place in the downtown Ottawa-Gatineau area.
Favorite climbing gym in the Ottawa/Gatineau area, has great setting in lead and bouldering. The staff is always friendly and helpful answering any questions and providing great courses for top-rope and lead. With the new renovation the gym now has a tension board, moon board and kilter board which are a ton of fun. Some of the setting can be quite dynamic but theres still a nice variety of problems that can be found :)
I love this gym! At the moment, I only do bouldering and have been to other gyms that do not have enough bouldering problems. Altitude has many fantastic routes of all different levels that are very clean and not clustered. Hands down the best gym in the area :)
Incredible place where to go for climbing or just to do workout. All the staff is polite, friendly and helpful. Perfect place if you are begginer in the climbing world. Prices are affordable.
The best place for bouldering in the Capital Region! It is perfect size, not too big and not too small. Lots of routes for all levels. Staff always friendly, the crowd is relaxed and chill. You feel welcome here regardless of your level, gender and age.
While we didn’t climb here (the kids were next door at Clip n Climb), I definitely wanted to check out the adult side of gym. Lots of walls at different difficulties and bouldering walls and it was quiet and not busy!
I come here for the first time this week, and must say I’m super impressed with the way they are handling reopening in COVID times. You can only use your own harness and equipment (though they do rent shoes that are disinfectedand only liquid chalk is permitted that contains hand sanitizer. They limit the number of people in the gym at any time through a reservation system and even have a separate entrance and exit. The climbing routes are of various levels and heights, had a marvelous time!
Weve been here a few times - a couple of times for birthday parties and a couple of times on our own. Kiddo had lots of fun doing the clip and climb part of the gym. Lots of different options and each wall had three levels of difficulty to make things more challenging (I.e. only the red holds)Although theyre closed during these challenging times, Im looking forward to the time that we can go back!
One, if not my favourite gym. There is such a variety of climbs organized in a thoughtful way. The outdoor Boulder and high walls are awesome features.
Great gym! Routes are well set and the atmosphere is relaxed. Only wish they didnt charge for a belay test
Wonderful gym, great staff and excellent facilities. When moving to a new city it was very important to me to find a new home gym. Altitude provided a welcoming environment and provides a variety of different climbing options (top ropes, leading, bouldering and auto-belays).
This place was great! Im brand new to bouldering and climbing and so this was a first experience for me. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was inviting, and they have quite an amazing setup in there. The prices are also reasonable for the experience. They have two floors/levels for climbing and bouldering, a small fitness setup downstairs along with a rope. There is a separate room for kids as well.Check it out!
This is a nice climbing gym with tons of areas to climb. There is a clip and climb area which is great for birthday parties. Theres lots of opportunities to lead and top rope. Theres also an amazing bouldering cave. You wont get bored here if you stay for a whole afternoon! Parking can be a bit tricky but in the end Ive always been able to find something free within a short walk.
Went here for my daughters birthday (as well as other timesits a great gym, staff are friendly and helpful.
So much fun. A great way to instill confidence in your kids!
Excellent climbing gym. My three kids had a blast. Staff was very curtious.
Gym built in a renovated church, so the architecture is quite nice and its neat to find remnants of the church around everywhere. The boulder problems are all very well set and and the staff were helpful and friendly.
Love love love it! 💖Its a great place to bring kids and have a good time with the fam. Theres different levels of difficulty so its really for everyone! If you get a membership and start going more often youll easily make yourself a climbing partner!Dont be worried to go alone either! Everyone is so friendly and were all cheering for everyone and helping one another. 😄
