Aloft - Restaurant in Hobart, Australia
Fantastic! Best food and atmosphere. Best restaurant i have tried around the world.Id recommend sitting at the bar as the chefs are very friendly and explain all the ingredients used and give great recommendations on what to try in tas 😊
Cannot rate this highly enough. Having said that, Aloft has been the appropriate pinnacle of an amazing Tasmanian dining experience over the last 6 months. Highly recommend sitting at the kitchen high tables. We had an amazing experience speaking with Max and Christian on the menu, life and good food. Sam looked after us from a dining and wine POV and was absolutely fantastic. Cannot wait to come back. Best meal we have had in Australia to date.
Very reasonable price considering the portions of the food. Amazing service and good vibe (as long as you book early and get in there at 530 you can sit next to the view). Really like the fish and the dessert.
Great location, was 4 minute walk from our hotel. Stunning views of the Harbour, phenomenal food, exceptional service. Really fresh produce, we had vegetarian menu and you can just tell all the produce was VERY fresh. The menu doesnt do the dishes any justice at all. When I initially read the menu prior to booking I wasnt very much excited. For example turnip cake + black vinegar was a complex layer dish of turnips, almost like a rosti/hash with a caramelized black vinegar dressing.I booked because so many websites & articles mentioned aloft as a must visit. Booking 6 weeks in advance, we only had the option of 5:45pm sitting - which worked well for us anyway.Every single dish was delicious, and for the first time in a while we left a vegetarian degustation dinner very very full. Oh not to mention the $110 pp price was VERY reasonable. If we are in Hobart again, 100% will be back.(Not too many photos as well, because I forgot to take them after the first 2 dishes lol)
One of the best places we ate at during our Hobart visit. We didnt realise it was set menu but had no complaints. The food is a Japanese fusion menu and mixed with a lot of local produce, no faults in any of the dishes.Staff were all friendly and put up with all our questions.Wine list was small but we were able to order single glasses from the paired wine list without having to do them all.Nice casual vibe for a Tuesday night.
Had a FANTASTIC experience here. Chefs Cam and Anton were amazing. The food wasnt pretentious, the high quality ingredients spoke for themselves.Ewan was a fantastic host, very attentive and knowledgeable of the wines.100% recommend to anyone wanting a delicious dining experience in Hobart.
This place is beyond a 5 star rating! It is by far the best restaurant in Hobart and most definitely up there for one of the best in the country. This place is unbelievable!! The staff, ambience, service but most of all the food.. Is absolutely 5 star worthy!!! The attention to detail, the fresh produce, the flavour combinations, the presentation of their food.. is truely superb!! Not only is the food here outstanding, the head chef/owner is an amazing operator, who clearly knows his food and how to run a successful business! You can’t get this anywhere in the world.. He has absolutely nailed it!!If you are visiting Hobart or a local waiting for an excuse to dine at this incredible venue, do yourself a favour and go check out this goldmine. You won’t be disappointed!! I recommend you sit up at the bar if you get the chance, so that you can watch the chefs in action, see what they do best, and chat to them about each of their amazing dishes.
10 stars !My husband and I were recommended Aloft by a friend as a “must go to!” restaurant for our stay in Hobart. We ended up dining here twice, of the three nights spent in Hobart. The service is incredible! Our waiter, Lauchie, made the experience amazing, with his knowledge of every dish…. All the staff were so friendly, warm and attentive. And the food! THE FOOD ! We could not fault anything! Every dish served, out did the last! The vegan dessert with honeycomb ( not honey!!was out of this world amazing…The seafood ! The vegetarian meals! All incredible …Yum! Yum! YUM!Thank you Aloft!
Wow! What a wonderful dining experience! I was lucky enough to celebrate my 60th birthday at this fabulous restaurant. My two girlfriends and I were instantly welcomed and so the four hour dining experience began. Every course and mouthful that was served up melted in our mouth. The flavours, the wines that were paired perfectly showcasing local produce and local wines were just perfect. Ewan had such knowledge of every wine that came to our table. Christian and Max your culinary skills and creativity shines. Thank you so sincerely for making my birthday so extremely enjoyable and memorable. My friends and I left feeling like we were old friends. We will definitely be back.
Very polished! Sensational selection of tasty delicacies delivered in a timely manner. Nothing to do but enjoy! The mandarin flavored dessert is possibly the best I’ve ever had!! The only challenge is sampling a rather sophisticated wine list. We will be back!
Nice dining venue. Worth visiting when in Hobart. Very centray located inside the Brooke Street Pier at the waterfront.
Great atmosphere. Every dish was delicious & generous. Wine list was OK — our wine selections the weakest point of the night. Service was great once things got moving.
One of the best dining experienced we have ever had.The food was absolutely amazing. Everything that arrive at the table was phenomenal with fantastic tastes, even for members of our party who were vegan and gluten intolerant. The staff were friendly, funny, and importantly were extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine.If you are visiting Hobart, a visit to Aloft is a must.
A wonderful meal turned into an exceptional experience because of Andy’s knowledge, generosity and impeccable service. It’s not easy winning over an entire group of ex hospo staff but every single one of us was floored by how attentive and helpful Andy was. Won’t hesitate to come back again and will recommend it to all of our friends.
An absolutely magical experience. The food & wine pairing was perfect. Everything was beautifully presented & delicious. Service was amazing & we felt truly spoilt. If youre in Hobart you have to come here for dinner!
The vegetarian chefs menu was amazing; complex flavours and unique combinations. We sat at the bar and loved being able to watch the meals being prepared. The chefs were very friendly and made the night even more special.
Food is very exceptional considering the price point. Staff is very friendly, high-energy and explained each dish/drink eloquently in detail. Highly recommended.
Last nights meal @aloftrestaurant_ was one of the best dining experiences I have had. From the minute I walked in the door, I felt welcome. The staff were amazing, the chefs were amazing, sitting at the kitchen bar was amazing and the food was amazing. Ill definitely be back!
Aløft provided us with the best meal and the best dining experience that I’ve had anywhere in Australia. Truly exceptional. The food: oh my goodness, WOW. My husband had the tasting menu and I had the vegan alternative- which, might I add, was no trouble at all for the restaurant to organise- super professional. Tasmanian produce is very special, but it takes a talented team of chefs to make it sing like it does at Aløft. Every single dish was bursting with complex flavours and textures, and each was as good as the last. We were fortunate enough to be seated at the kitchen bar, and the chefs (shout out to Jake- what a legendwere kind enough to chat to us about their produce and the dishes they were creating. The drinks menu is impressive, and the team were only too happy to answer any questions we had about the wine list. The setting is obviously spectacular. The floor-to-ceiling windows showcase the breathtaking vista over Hobart’s harbour and mountains. The lighting is perfect for an intimate meal; the space is generous and the music is noteworthy in its addition to the ambience of the restaurant. Finally, we have to mention the outstanding service. We were looked after by Jacob and honestly, this man is a gift to the hospitality industry. He was warm, funny and knowledgeable, and attentive without ever being intrusive. Thanks for looking after us, Jacob! In short, Aløft is a gift. Get there, or live in regret.
Phenomenal, so glad we got in. Its a must go. Everything, the cocktails, service and not to mention the food! Thanks team.
Fine dining with a twist. The menu was set menu but unlike traditional fine dining degustations, the food were plated as shared plates. This did not affect the culinary experience, food was amazing and so were the cocktails. The mandarin dessert was the highlight of our trip to Hobart, we will return just to have the dessert. A must try!
Best dining experience in Hobart, don’t go anywhere else! All courses were delicious and portions were great, definitely will return when back in TAS.
Excellent Asian-leaning tasting menu with local produce and Tassie matching wines. Crispy eggplant and wallaby tartare were favourites from the meat menu. Confit Jerusalem artichokes was a standout from the vego menu. $170 for food and wine matching. Good vegetarian tasting menu.
What a absolutely amazing experience. The staff are amazing. From Kyra, Cameron and Michelle. Rarely do you get a flawless dinner service but this it. Food, service, atmosphere and perfect wine match. Couldn’t recommend Aloft any higher. Christian your kitchen is in safe hands with Cameron holding the fort. I can highly recommend the kitchen bar experience to watch the guns at work.Dave and Michelle
Staff were lovely about fitting us in on a Tuesday. We were seated at the bar. They are set menu only at $100 a person. Overall Id say the food was quite expensive for what was delivered. I regularly review food in my home city and Id say that this was more expensive than Canberra food at a similar standard. The food was fine, but I didnt feel like it had enough depth or complexity to command that price point. That said, Tasmania is a smaller city, so perhaps this is normal? The wine list was also lacking for a restaurant pitching at this level. If you are going, Id recommend asking for tables by the windows and ensuring you go during sunset. The water views mightve made for a slightly different experience.
What a flavour sensation! From the first moment that Brontë welcomed us the evening was full of delicious food & great wine pairings. The service was welcoming, full of expertise, insider tips & a heartfelt warmth that radiated from Bronte. Overall this was a wonderful experience that collided delicious food, amazing views & next level service!
A really enjoyable fine dinning experience. The restaurant is located at the central of Hobart CBD. Service is attentive and friendly. Presentation is second to none. Quite Asian fused modern Australian cuisine.Overall the taste is a bit too salty for my personal taste. However, the highlight of the night is the desert. Mandarin is the key note of this dish. Laying is the key to its success. From the buttermilk foam outside, sugar glazed mandarin in the middle, and then the ice cream in the middle. Airy, tangy, creamy. Such a wonderful piece of art, not only a desert. Credit to the chef.
Beautiful and creative food! Flavours were amazing with some Asian influence, and the team used it appropriately to show off Tasmania produce. All dishes were perfectly cooked as well; never had a pork this tender before! Its a great value for money for the quality you get, and ambience is hip and classy. One minor suggestion is that it would be great if more Tassie wines could be ordered by glass :)
Believe the hype. This place exceeded all our expectations. Everything from the chefs menu to the wine pairings was spot on. Bronte was also fantastic guiding us through the menu and made the entire experience that much better.Must try for anyone looking for fine dining in Hobart.
The relaxed ambience of the restaurant, paired with the amazing food, considerate service and beautiful views made our two year anniversary dinner the biggest hit of our visit to Tasmania. The food was divine and would do it again any time.
The whole experience was amazing. Food up there with the best places Ive eaten at. Wine matching was on point, and the service was A+.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Australia. The Chefs menu with matching wines was amazing and incredibly well priced given the quality, quantity and size of each dish.Staff were also super knowledgeable and friendly. Special shout out to our host Bronte who made the experience all the more enjoyable. Can’t recommend this enough.
We had an incredible dining experience. The chefs menu with wine pairing was outstanding. The food used a lot of Tasmanias signature produce and was prepared in a highly skilled and technical way. There were a number of interesting flavour combinations that highlighted the freshness of the the produce. The view was beautiful and the ambience was nice.
Aloft is by far one of the best restaurants we have ever dined at. They offer a chefs menus and my gosh they nailed it here! Everything was so delicious and I highly recommend pairing the wine with the courses, it was next level amazing! Bronte our server made the experience the best ever !! She’s knowledgeable and personable, couldn’t fault this restaurant at all!! I’ll be recommending to anyone I know visiting Hobart! Thank you aloft for the best night ever!
This place was A-MA-ZIMG!!!! We had the best night, every course was devine and definitely worth the price. Staff are super lovely, attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
I’d be here all day if I wrote down everything good about this restaurant. An amazing experience and so happy we went. The service and the food was such a pleasant, genuine experience. It’s my number one recommendation for anyone I know visiting Hobart. They have an amazing diverse vegan menu also which is not something you see very often.
WOW! 5/5! What at fabulous experience. Visiting from Melbourne, this restaurant ticked all boxes and exceeded expectations. Starting with a fabulous view over the River Derwent, the food was incredible and although we were trying to recover our bellies from a full 6 course degustation menu at MONA, we HAD to finish each and every morsel on our plates. The food is unique, balanced and so flavoursome! My daughter is vegetarian and so fussy and just LOVED every dish. The desert was AMAZING (sorry no photos)! Our waitress Bronte was exceptional...attentive and knowledgeable. In fact all staff really demonstrated their knowledge of intricate flavours and showed passion with each course they delivered. This extended to the wine menu too. The music created a great ambience...there was a great energy and buzz. I thanked Head Chef and owner Christian who was soooo delightful! We wished we could go back the next night but it will have to be on our next visit to Hobart! Thanks for such a memorable & enjoyable night! x
Fantastic experience, the food and service were exceptional. Staff made us feel super special and paired wines were a great addition.
Stunning view paired with a delicious menu! We always book the minute we know we are heading to Tassie.
Where do I start?I can tell you we heard wonderful things so the bar was already quite high. It’s hard to still be impressed when this happens- but we most definitely were.Starting with the oh so delightful Brontë who took care of us. From the moment we were seated close by the stunning view, we were made to feel so welcome. Not a detail was missed. We were treated like regulars even though we had only just arrived. The atmosphere was wonderful. Lighting was perfect. So too was the music. And the food. Wow. Wow. So impressively wow. Please do the degustation/ tasting menu.Never would I have imagined I would eat wallaby. Never would I have imagined I would even love it.But let me tell you. Each course was impressive. Every element was so carefully designed fromLook to taste. I really cannot fault a single part of our dining experience.Thank you for making our final night in Hobart one to remember for all the right reasons.
A very mediocre and disappointing fine dining experience. We got their vegan tasting menu and I had specifically asked for dietary requirements for my partner (who cannot eat garlic and raw onion). Although the waitress was friendly and said they could accommodate as per my booking, we were very surprised to find garlic in their sichuan tofu and raw onion in their oyster mushroom and zuchinni dish.We did not complain about the tofu dish at the time as we had trusted that this had no garlic as requested. (And assumed it must have been cooked onionUnfortunately this was not the case and my partner was extremely sick for the rest of the night after dinner. In regards to the food, for a fine dining experience (comparing this to Sydney restaurantsI was hoping for more innovation and finesse in the dishes. The Asian dishes were very mediocre and something I could buy at a regular Chinese restaurant. On a positive note, the ambience was lovely and staff were friendly. It is a nice place to go to if you have little dietary requirements and are looking for something different in Tasmania. Im not sure how their meat dishes are but as a vegan with dietary requirements I would not recommend this restaurant for the price you pay.
Tasmania trip (last minute as usual due to ever changing covid restrictions 🤦🤣). Christmas Eve dinner at @aloftrestaurant_ - absolutely fantastic dining experience! The chefs menu (100$ ppwas perfectly executed, and had an Asian influence. Every course was yummy, and had something surprising and interesting. The drinks selection was excellent, and the service was amazing and friendly, even though they were fairly busy. Well done 🙂🙂..Oyster, nasturtium flower mignonette: we arent normally big fans of raw oysters, but these ones were really good! They were big and juicy, and the sauce was super tangy and delicious..Sashimi, ponzu, cucumber, sesame: super fresh kingfish sashimi, which was complemented by multiple yummy ingredients 🤤..Wallaby tartare, Sichuan pepper, tapioca: Ive never had wallaby before, but I guess it tastes like kangaroo 😅. At first I didnt know if Id like the Sichuan pepper flavour, but these were very yummy - if you eat the tartare with the cracker in one bite, the flavours are like a party in your mouth 😍😍..Chinese Masterstock Crispy Pigs Ears (+12$): we opted to add this optional course because who can resist crispy stuff 😂😂? They were very savoury and crispy - absolutely delicious! We finished it in record time 😅😅..Crispy eggplant, fermented chilli: this was so good! The inside is nice and soft, and the outside was lightly crisped, and coated with this sticky sweet sauce that had a hint of chilli. Nicely done!.Stanley Bay scallops, nasturtium nam jim jaew: tangy sauce on the scallops, which were super tender and done perfectly!.Market fish (blue eyed trevalla), fennel, zucchini, goats curd: this dish had a beautiful presentation, in particular with the foam. The fish itself had a firm texture, and the skin was crispy. The fish flesh also had lots of flavour in it 🤤🤤..Pork, macadamia shavings, miso, charred broccolini: the pork is one of the most tender pork Ive ever had! It was super super easy to cut and pull apart with your cutlery 😍😍. The flavours were amazing too! Loved the macadamia shavings, which added a nice additional layer of flavour to the dish. Excellent!.Meyer lemon, caramelised white chocolate, buttermilk foam, honeycomb sprinkle: this dessert definitely deserves its own post. It was very delicate, and had the perfect balance of tangy and sweet flavours. The different layers were so nicely done 🤤🤤😍😍. So good!!
Totally divine. Set menu and matched wines a total buzz. Service beyond reproach. Loved the atmosphere once the hordes had departed. Couldnt fault a single thing.
Great vegetarian degustation menu in a spectacular waterfront location.Really delicious nuanced dishes with interesting and delicious combinations of ingredients.Good serviceLovely vaguely Nordic decor.
Aloft was an absolutely flawless dining experience. Aside from the wonderful service from all the staff and the food being incredibly delicious, inventive and beautiful; The chefs also accommodated a very complex list of serious allergies so we could enjoy their offerings! Which was incredible for us! Honestly one of the BEST dining experiences weve ever had. I cannot recommend this beautiful space, its chefs and staff enough. Thank you Aloft!
This experience is truly incredible!!We had a reservation at the kitchen bar tonight. Watching the chefs in action was a delight.Just when you think they cant top the dish being served, they come out with another BANG.Could not recommend it enough!!!
starting off with fresh oysters, sashimi, and scallops! these were all pleasant starters but my favourites were definitely the oysters ☺then the market fish special which was blue eye, with asparagus and thyme bearnaise sauce which was my highlight dish. fish was so flaky and perfect, and that sauce had me licking it off the spoon... 🤤🤤🤤there was also the chili caramel eggplant and cauliflower and goals cheese dish which was only okay for me, but my bf loved that sweet spicy eggplant 🥵 the beef short rib with broccolini was also a favourite for me, with the yaki niku sauce being such an amazing pair with the meat.for dessert, we had the coconut and honeycomb which was a really nice palate cleanser at the end and left me feeling very satisfied 😍the wildflower highball cocktail was nice but for me, the ginger earl grey mocktail was actually better 😅 really loved this place and quite affordable fine dining! cant wait to be back hehecheck out my food instagram @erinxeats for more!
My pet hate is when a restaurant offers only a set menu. But when they get it right like Aloft, then its just amazing. Luckily. Our waiter was one of the best weve ever had, very friendly, knowledgeable and happy to chat. Everything on the set menu was gluten free except the vegetarian options, which is fine with me. The view and the atmosphere was fantastic. Highly recommended.
Best meal I’ve had in Tasmania this year: from start to end the professional and friendly service, appetisers, mains, desert (even with a desert using ingredients I do not usually enjoywere a delight. We had the chefs menu and they were able to seemingly easily cater for special dietary requirements without compromising on taste, variety, quality or the experience! The gin and tonic was also better than certain other to remain nameless specialty pubs. It was worth the price.
As far as good food goes, Aloft is a wonderful restaurant to kick back, relax and enjoy a quality meal.I was pleasantly surprised by how well executed the chef’s menu was. Though it appeared simple, the flavours of each dish were complex, well balanced and payed a genuine homage to Asian culture and cuisine. The eggplant tempura was a standout, as well as the scallops. All of the seafood and meat produce were fresh and the chefs did an incredible job allowing the produce to shine in their own right. The staff were friendly and fun to chat with as well. The view of the water from our seats were incredible. The interior of the restaurant definitely made it feel like you were dining in someone’s loft.If you are in Hobart and want to enjoy at least one nice meal, I recommend that you put this on the list (and book ahead!).
