Fascinating place and ideal for a nice coffee and desert. Friendly staff too 👍
Lovely cafe inside with made-to-order food along with a selection of cake slices, quiche, and some pastries.A nice spot to stop for coffee or a bite.Vegan options available. Their side salad was unexpectedly was wonderful!Free wifi also.Staff are very lovely as well!
Great asset to the area
Very well presented and clear information and displays. Worth a visit.
Brilliant venue for a gig 👌
Interesting museum. Not overly complex for children, my two enjoyed the interactive bits (a couple not working, but not a detriment). Food in the cafe was lovely. I have an autistic child, and they were so accommodating and kind. Thank you.PS views are awesome!
Great views from this site. You really have to admire the hard work the men and boys put in to mine these sites
The staff were so helpful and friendly. Beautiful scenic location. The coffee was great and the cakes delicious. A must visit if you are in Allihies.
Great display. Lovely cafe.
Lovely food, lovely staff and lovely outdoor area
Very Informative Museum..Cafe was very good.Food and Service likewise with Friendly Staff.
Super hike up to and over the mine from the museum and back for coffee and delicious cake
Very small but nice museum and nice café.
A must visit for any person visiting Allihies. Full of history and a joyous cafe.
Loads of information crammed into one place nice cafe too
Beautiful peaceful location with small cafe (very welcoming), small exhibition on mining, and some decent short walks around the area (ask for a map at the museum, and wear proper footwear if it’s been wet). Some parking available on and off street (caution if you are in a larger vehicle eg motorhome - manageable but less options).
Didnt visit the museum but friends recommend it.Ate at the café. Lovely spot, recommend it.
lovely cafe, beautiful sitting area at museum, coffee excellent
Small but fascinating, well worth a visit. Lovely staff
Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious cakes and coffee and well maintained toilets.
Nice informative museum. Walk to the mines in highly recommend.
Lovely Museum and Cafe.Great museum with small bits of information about the copper mines in allihies in the past, with lots of actual pieces from the mines. Quite a small museum but interesting.
Very informative and staff very friendly also has great cafe
Lovely little place and nice museum and coffee shop as well
Very informative and well presented in Allihies copper museum. We had an idea of the history we were walking through next day on the Beara way and Restaurant staff had gift of the gab as well..
Great Cafe and Facilities on the Beara Peninsula worth a visit.
Fantastic sandwiches and salads today outside. Cakes too. One of those cafes that pride themselves on quality food. Staff were very welcoming too. Thank you!
We had such a good time in the museum and cafe. The museum has a lot to tell about mining and about the old times. Unfortunately some of the interactive parts were not in operation, but I am sure it is temporary. It is a very exciting exhibition, especially for the ones who love mines and machinery, like me.The cafe is amazing too, when you are there, try their world class ciabattas and cakes. The ciabattas are full of flavour and packed with quality ingredients. The cakes are well balanced and flavourful. The staff is super nice and cheerful too.Such a great place, totally recommended.Thank you! <3
Very well laid out and insightful information. Great display of the local history.
Self guided tour, a very detailed history to mining in Ireland and the different techniques used to extract the copper. Not very many interactive displays, kids would be bored.
This is one of the best places I have ever been to although the drive is difficult. I highly recommend a visit. There are some walks around the sea headlands that you will enjoy.
Wonderful industrial heritage experience and fantastic hill and coastal walking with majestic vistas. Would be perfect if walks had regularly spaced vertically mounted glass interpretative panels with sketches or line drawings showing original mine buildings set in what are now fields.
Tasty food, nice staff and lovely setting for the museums cafe. Enjoy the sea and mountain views!
Stopped in for a coffee & a treat this afternoon. Weren’t disappointed, fab cakes and great coffee with very welcoming staff. Highly recommend you stop here and take in the museum which gives a thought provoking insight into a bygone age
Very nice museum that takes you back in time to show how hard mining was in that time period! Give you a sense of respect for those old timers digging in the mines by hand!
Fantastic history of the copper mines in this area. Nice cafe. Go to ruins of Dunboy castle on way back to Castletownbere. !
Small but very informative. Interesting information and displays. Good spot for people looking for their ancestors and who want to learn how they lived.
Interesting little museum. Set in the tiny and very colourful village of Allihies. Interactive displays. Video screens. Information boards and historical exhibits. Fascinating stuff! Helpful staff too. Though a paucity of books for sale on the mines as near end of season. I wanted to research the mines on the presumption that they were a stock market and metal trading scam, cooked up by the English landowning Puxley family. Rather than ever productive and commercially-profitable endeavours). Museum staff recommended an out-of-print book -- The Bearhaven Copper Mines by the Northern Mine Research Society. A comprehensive reference which we found secondhand on return home. In summary, the museum is well worth a visit and good value for €6 admission fee (2019 season)
The CAFE at the museum was very good. We had tea, scones, carrot cake, potato leek soup and brown bread. All were excellent. They serve sandwiches and salads, which we didnt try. The service is slow so take time. A very worthwhile stop in an area far from other options. We did not visit the museum.
It was small but it was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool there! Its really fun to learn all about the copper mines and I have gone there many times before! It also has a lovely café there!
Lovely cafe museum and art gallery. However it should be noted they dont take credit cards.
Didnt visit the museum. Had lunch in the cafe. Very nice and very friendly staff.
A small, but very interesting museum about copper mining. There is also a restaurant, you can eat indoor and by good weather, also outdoor. We experienced the staff as very friendly.
I found it very interesting, living locally and with connections to Cornwall. Well presented with lots to read, which satisfied my personal curiosities. Had been meaning to go for quite a while. Worth the time spent there. Friendly staff there too. Really liked it.
Detailed and in depth museum with high quality displays and moving models, giving a detailed history of the local copper mines that defined Allihies in the past and shaped it to be the town it is today. A very interesting part was how the town of Butte, Montana, United States was a city filled with emigrants of Allihies and the surrounding area, miners looking for work after the local mines in Ireland closed. The attached cafe offers good views and tasty snacks to go along with your tea and coffee, offering a modern theme to enjoy your lunchtime.A must visit if youre passing through!
A very beautifull place....Heaven in west cork
A lovely, and surprisingly complete, museum dedicated to the history of copper mining on the Beara peninsula. Displays are as good as anything youll see in any modern museum. Vast amounts of historical information. Plus the associated tea room serves excellent fare.
We had a wonderful trip to the museum followed by a lovely lunch which was a great oppertunity to meet and talk to new people. The guided walk and history of the mines was very informative and interesting despite the weather! The complementary Irish coffee was a wonderful example of Irish hospatility. Thank you for a memorable event.
Great little village. Completely unspoiled. Fabulous beach. Good pubs. And the copper mine workings are stunning.
Wow! This place is amazing! What a fantastic idea to take an old ruined church & convert it into a Copper Mine Museum to tell the poignant stories of the Ancestors of the village of Allihies. There were 2 excellent Art Exhibitions & a small gift section with crafting & copper jewellery by local artists Nadette & Nealie. And the food! We met chef Sykoni whose delicious delights were scrumptious. She also does a Seaweed Walk regularly which was fascinating & so informative -a born teacher. Young Lilly, Lucy & Sarah, local school girls who work there were so helpful & full of information. I highly recommend this gem of a cafe with outdoor seating by a lovely garden too.
