10 Theatre Alley, New York, NY 10038, United States, New York City
Moody lounge serving Japanese drinks & bar bites in a redone mechanical basement at The Beekman.
Place used to be great (would always get a tablebut service has gone down significantly. Place was half full. Also spoke with the manager because the bartender was angry and unprofessional (Spanish guy - Sat night). Apparently there were work-related issues that he decided to take out on customers. Remember we support your living and the owners living. I would not recommend going here. Tons of quality options in the area with accommodating and well behaved staff.
Great place for a date or hang out night with friends.
Awesome speakeasy, fantastic atmosphere and great food and drinks!
Cocktails were inventive and Sienna (our waitresswas attentive and informative! Love the vibe.
Fun times, great drinks, and good music to dance to!
Awesome place if you can get in
Great atmosphere, a bit pricey and disorganized but the music and entertainment make up for it. Drinks are pricey but it is downtown NYC. Worth a visit, and make sure to dress up!
Followed instructions from bouncer only to watch them deny me entrance and entrance of a military veteran standing with me. Was told we were not on the list, then later we were added to the list and both of us still were denied entrance. Manager had equally nasty attitude. Sad to have such a bad experience trying to spend money there especially since it is so close to my preferred hotel at the Moxy downtown. I would recommend to go spend your money elsewhere where they have less discrimination.
The manager Robin is an awful person. She does not have an ounce of compassion in her. After our short conversation Im not at all surprised that many reviews mention discrimination. Do not support this place.
Super duper cool spot to hangout and chill with friends and folks, a lil upscale and pricey though. Read a couple of reviews online that werent so good but after visiting there place myself, Ive nothing but great review write, maybe because I didnt have too much expectations but definitely worth every penny spent and everything time spent. I can tell itd be definitely be crowded during the weekends but you should definitely visit 😉 and see for yourself.
I would never have had found this place, had I not gone to the bathroom in the basement as we were having a drink at The Temple Court at the Beekman. Very cool space, great music, and good cocktails.
$21 drinks, bartenders have attitude, little space to
To Mani people in a small basementFIRE HAZARDNY Fire Department should check on this place frequently as they over crowded their capacity for their "Cuban" party I most likely do every other nith.
They want you to feel like you found a magical place thats super crowded, but its just another bar with pretentious staff that shrug you off. Food was decent.
Very cool, hip place. The music was chill, techno mixed with hip hop. The stone interior was awesome and gives a neat vibe. I liked it very much. I would have given it 5 stars but I was robbed during my visit which left a negative feel to me.
Beautiful venue, Beautiful people, very expensive hard to get in, and really a table oriented place so if you want to have real fun it’s going to cost you a lot
What a great crowd, and a great place. Just what NYC needs these days. Less pretense, great music, good people. U can tell the place is relatively new and the bar tenders probably need a bit lore training, but still, the place just hits the spot. Oh, and the door staff is among the best in town!
Nice quiet dark bar in the basement of the Beekman Hotel. Unfortunately no cell phone service. Good drinks, good service.
POC PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE! If I can give it 0 stars then I WOULD. I went on a Saturday with 2 friends of mine. We were gonna go in with a promoter called Perry who was gonna meet us at the door. We saw the promoter talking with the doorman at the front. The promoter came back and told us the doorman wont let us 3 girls in because my dress was too sparkly. I was wearing a sparkly neutral pink sequin dress (the clubbing typewith transparent open toe heels and a clutch bag. My friend was wearing a summer dress with white sneakers. My other friend was wearing black jeans, a halter top, and boot heels. At first, we assumed we werent let in because my friend had sneakers or because my other friend had jeans. The ONLY reason we werent let in was because my dress was too sparkly. What kind of b.s reason is that? A lot of girls wear sparkly clothing. Btw, the doorman who denied our entry was a tall white guy with long hair. FYI, my 2 friends are white and Im a brown Latina. SOUNDS LIKE THE DOORMAN DIDNT LET US IN SINCE HE WAS BEING A RACIST TOWARDS ME. We tried confronting that doorman about the truth but he kept ignoring us and didnt wanna look at us. I called the Beekman hotel and the Alleycat to file a report against him. A lady called Shawn who answered at the Beekman acknowledged my story. She was very attentive to what I had to say. Although the manager at the Alleycat acted differently. I told him my story & he tried claiming that since we came in with a promoter that us girls were held to "high standards" and needed to come exceeding expectations when it came to the dress code. He basically tried justifying the doormans actions. I understand that Alleycat is strict & has a dress code but in the end, I was dressed up formally while my friends were dressed more laidback. We got denied ONLY because my dress was too sparkly. He also told me to come back to the Alleycat and offered us girls free drinks. I denied his request then told him that what matters the most to me is that the doorman gets held accountable for his actions so that in the future this doesnt happen to anyone else. Ridiculous that someone has to encounter that experience in a diverse city such as NYC. I felt bad and so humiliated The manager told me he was gonna talk to the doorman and investigate the case then call me back to let me know. BTW, It already has been 13 days and no call back.
I love this space...good drinks too
Great entertainment. Very expensive. Not great use of space.
Nice ambiance, great service, drinks are strong some what expensive, DJ could be better.
I came to this place with a party of 5 people, but since we were arriving in 2 cars we came 10 minutes apart. For that hostess was demanding for me and my friend to get a bottle of $500, despite that we had table reserved by our promoter. The max she was able to negotiate is $200 bar tap per person. Needless to say that, before even we got this conversation we were pushed aside and forced to wait as more "important people" were getting in. So we left this place with intention never come back. So if you an alcoholic that can drink that much alcohol, or willing to spend unreasonable amount of money, or missing good old feeling of "citizen of second class" this place is for you. I personally would pass on this doubtful pleasure, there are plenty places in NYC where you can be treated much better for your money.
The ambient and crowd were nice, but the drinks are very expensive. $60 for a shot of Casa Azul Tequila which any where else in the city goes for $28-32 and mix drinks start at $28
If you are looking for a deep house music spot on a Thursday night, this is the place to go. Great crowd with a positive attitude. Music is always on point and they have a nice selection of spirits to chose from. Highly recommend.
Interesting place, creative atmosphere, shishito peppers were excellent
I don’t usually write reviews but I visited this place on 3/8/19 as a member of a Wedding Party that was meeting for drinks the night before the Wedding. I found the staff especially Joseph(the Manager that nightquite rude. I could probably understand if the place was upscale but it looked like a complete dump that had expensive drinks and a very unaccommodating and rude Manager. Don’t go there...
Hard to get in n, impolite hosts, you need to know a promoter
It was love at first sight with the place/ambiance. Drinks are far from I what I was expecting for a place like that. I could not finish neither the Lemon Sour nor the Highball ($18 each). The beer that I ordered at the end out of desperation came out in a can. Ill give it one last try.
If you know about this spot then you dont mind the drink prices, but the servers and staff are amazing! Really intimate and cute vibes, a mixed crowd whenever Ive been, but I always have a great time!
Everyone at the front was cool allowing us to enter without a hassle. Just be respectful and everything will be cool. Music is great.. love it for girlfriend or first date. Not a rip-off
I came the weekend it first opened and the scene was dead, drinks were trying very hard to be creative but missed the mark, but at least they were doing 20% off tabs for opening weekend.Being local (literally the same blockI thought Id give it another shot with some friends from out of town. Well, at 9:30 pm I was told I had to wait for the host to come out (to do what Im not sureand so we waited 10 min in this quite cold weather for an obnoxious host who was too busy explaining to his colleague how to do their job to pay my group any attention. Did not even acknowledge us. Ridiculous! Wouldnt be surprised if its the bridge and tunnel crowd that frequents this place and thats why the employees have such an attitude. Hey management, even actually good cocktail bars in NYC dont treat patrons with this much attitude (went to Employees Only a few weeks ago and they went above and beyond trying to find space for my group of 3). Fidi could definitely use chill spots, but Id be surprised if this place makes it open a year.
Came here about 5x since they opened. Was a chill lounge first few times I went. My last visit was a week ago and the place was completely dead. They were also playing very slow music. I asked the bartender who was very kind, when the dj goes on. He said about an hour. I was falling asleep to the music so my friends and I went down the block to grab a bite at BK Chophouse. After dinner I tried to go back for a few drinks and they wouldnt let me in without a reservation or a guarantee of spending about $1000.I walked away and went to Beekman Pub down the street. Spoke to the bartenders there and they said another bartender from alley cat was just in there. That the place was slow, mismanaged, and he was just let go.Being local, I thought I had found a cool chill lounge at first. But it looks like theyve gotten ahead of themselves..
Good if you like dank basements full of pretentious bouncers and snotty drink runners. Bartender was cool, room was how I picture Harvey Weinsteins library.
Absolutely amazing space! A shame that it wasnt busier.... but at the same time, it worked out perfectly for those of us there last night! The DJ smashed the place up last night with a mix of R n B, hip hop, indie, reggae and rock - proper tunes, for a mature, proper crowd. And try the Manhattan.... for the drink, of course, but those cherries - thats what dreams are made of!
LOVED the venue, drinks and staff. The DJ was horrible though....you guys need new DJ.
A month ago I gave this place 5 stars. It was a great speakeasy. Now they turned it into a Club where they want to overcharge people and have an obnoxious bouncer at the door.
Loved the ambiance, live music, food and drinks!
Quite below average service, especially from the “gentlemen” working the front door/seating. If your job has such high stress it’s a creating a drag on the patrons with your frustrations for reservations you shouldn’t be handling this line of work. Possibly a bar back type is more suiting.
The server was very nice, but then they wouldn’t let my friend in because she was wearing sneakers. We had made a reservation for 12 and at no point did anyone mention this rule. The manager said, ‘it is the hottest club in nyc’.... lol. Btw, they were jimmy choos
I want to love the Alleycat. My first visit there was great. But when, based on that visit, I booked a reservation for 12 guests for a birthday party, we had a terrible experience. In the multiple emails and check ins prior to our visit, no one told us that sneakers are not allowed. In fact, a member the staff was wearing them. Nonetheless, they turned my friend away when she arrived in sneakers, and explained that they could not budge because “this is New York City and it’s the hottest club in town.” First, these were high end designer sneakers and athleisure is a huge part of the NYC fashion scene - especially during fashion week. Second, the dress code was never communicated to us. While I understand that venues need to maintain their brand by keeping slovenly patrons out, our group was on-trend and more than presentable, had made a reservation, and was prepared to spend a fair amount of money. Alleycat seriously failed at client relations. Finally, this venue is absolutely not the “hottest club in town,” and that sort of attitude towards patrons will certainly not get them there. They have great design and good music, but so do plenty of other places. We took our money elsewhere and had a lovely night, with no problems from doormen.
Amazing Club, Live music, Delicious Cocktails, Beautiful people I highly recommend this Club to everyone. My group had great time.
Im in love with the ambiance and the staff is awesome. Ill be back
Very cool chic place that is like a hidden treasure. The Black Lemon Sour Cocktail is my fave. Will definitely be stopping in again!
Gays not welcome. When this place was hiring, the casting call for hosts specifically said they were interested in trans and gay people. And they did hire a few. So you think theyd be gay-friendly, right? Nope. When my boyfriend and I showed up for a second visit, we were turned away, because there were "too many dudes inside". A gender-ratio door policy, at a bar like this, in 2018? Seriously?! I thought this was an upscale cocktail bar, but apparently its a sleazy straight-only singles nightclub. Queers are welcome only as props, not customers. Screw that.
It looks like a place your "cool" aunt wanda designed: pier one meets a few cooky vintage pieces, complete with 55 year old djs spinning and bizzare wait staff wandering the floor confusedly without actually asking to take your order. Wait staff not particularly helpful, although not bad. I guess the beekman guests will think its fun.
Unbelievably rude. Went with my girlfriend after drinks at the Beekman hotel, they told us to check it out, went around the corner, watched people walk out and was told its full and they werent letting anyone in. What a joke. Recommend finding somewhere else
Really nice atmosphere with a lovely staff. They all seem well-trained. Cocktails are great, and so are the shishito peppers. If you want to impress a date, take them here.
Amazing drinks and food, very cool atmosphere!
This is my new favorite spot. Awesome atmosphere with cool staff. The drinks are fantastic and the bar tenders are better.
