A collection of plants from around the world housed in a cast-iron & glass building dating to 1910.
Such a treasure! The plants, the architecture, the turtles and Koi and, oh yeah -- NO admission! Take a break from your busy day and unwind in this beautiful indoor botanical conservatory surrounded by a public park. Allan Gardens fills almost the entire block from Carlton to Gerrard between Jarvis and Sherbourne. Outside there is a playground and a dog off-leash area, lots of mature trees and perfect picnic spots. Inside the conservatory, youll find plants from all over the world, in several separate greenhouses. Some areas are replanted throughout the year. Right now, a whole section is devoted to chrysanthemums of all shapes and colours. Spectacular! The central iron and glass structure known as the Palm House dates to 1910 (1909?)and is currently undergoing renovations. It is still accessible but most of the plants have been removed for now. I believe the conservatory is open all year but its best to check the citys website, before you go -- toronto.ca and search Allen Gardens. Enjoy!
Was really nice, quite warm (its a green house so makes sense). Didnt cost a thing, was totally FREE!The gardens have three halls. The walking path is not always wide and accessible ♿, and there is only one bench to sit on (in the farthest garden). The vegetation in the garden is diverse and presented in a nice way. There are also turtles!Really loved it 💕
Nice & a different garden.. as a conservatory garden.. ull see a variety of different tropical plants, flowers & trees.. a place as a must visit for once with ur family & especially ur parents would love it.. 😊
Allen Garden is right in downtown Toronto near Jarvis street and is easy to access. Access is completely free. Inside the conservatory are different types of beautiful tropical plants and exotic flowers between 4 small greenhouses. The Koi Fish and turtles area is unique. Walking through the conservatory doesnt take long as its not huge, but it’s worth checking out. Its a beautiful place to take a stroll.
Beautiful. Stunning. Free.A very lovely indoor/outdoor garden greenhouse with a ridiculous variety of plants and flowers. It looks small from the outside but it feels big inside. As someone mentioned before it is up to par with gardens you have to pay to get into so I was very impressed. It is the perfect place for a mini date or even a garden photoshoot. I highly recommend others to come and visit!
TLDR: Must seeIf you are in Toronto even just once, you should definitely visit this spot. It is quite the sight to see the tropical plants and animals living in this climate.I will go here again. And I recommend it to everyone.Photos to follow
Admission is free here.Allan Garden is one of Torontos oldest parks, established in 1858. Located in the center of the park is a large Victorian-style greenhouse, the Allan Greenhouse Garden, built in 1909. The six glass greenhouses cover an area of 16,000 square feet. There is a huge greenhouse botanical garden, which cultivates rare tropical plants from all over the world. The style is similar to Domo Park in minneapolis.
Allen Gardens is a hidden gem. There are lots of beautiful and exotic plants here, and the place is relatively big. Admission is free and you can go on self-guided tours. There are a few benches around so that people can relax and take in the beautiful sights but is it really humid, so just keep that in mind.
Absolutely spectacular place right in the heart of the city. And best part, its completely free. Amazing collection of plants and the building itself is pretty damn cool!
Nice garden, easily accessible from the downtown core by transit or walking 30 minutes. Its pretty large and there were multiple rooms, so it was impressive that the whole thing was free.Dont go during especially hot days though, it gets very humid inside.
This is one of my favorite places in Toronto. I often walk there daily. Beautiful plants, rooms, and decorations. I love watching the turtles. Cant wait until the are done remodeling.
It’s absolutely beautiful place to enjoy watching many kind of flowers in this lovely place. It’s clean and everything was sorted. All entrances are closed you have to find the one that is open. The turtles and goldfishes are kids favourite. It’s free to visit this beautiful place.
Was quite the zen, contemplative experience. Exactly what we were looking for after the pinnacle of human chaos the CN Tower and the aquarium were.It was practically empty, yet the most interesting (and pleasantvisit of the day. And cheapest as access is totally free.Astonishing number of plants of display, everything is exceptionally well taken care of and healthy.
This garden caught me by complete surprise. Entirely free to visit. It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk around. Lots of amazing greenery which are impossible to grow in the Canadian weather. The place is usually fairly quiet considering its free of charge. Well worth the visit. There is some fish and turtles hidden around the gardens pound. The park where it is located is habited by alot of friendly homeless dudes and gals.
This amazing garden, the especially the tropical plants has been growing even in the winter, I went there with my son in spring time and got lucky dont have to pay for entrance.. I love the beauty and maintenance of the garden..
Green house is just stunning! This year I was very impressed how nice it is. Plenty new beautiful plants and trees. The pond has big Koy fishes and second pond is full of turtles. Every time I come back I have a great time.
What a community treasure! The conservatory is magical and transports you to a tropical world. There were lots of volunteers working on the outdoor garden, too. If we lived closer, this would be a frequent stop!
A truly astonishing greenhouse that is free to visit. Right now (June 2022you have to enter through the back entrance, so follow the signs to get there. A great place to see a wide array of cacti, flowers, small trees, and other exotic plants. There is also a section with beautiful Koi fish and turtles. Dont miss this exceptional garden!
no matter what season outside, its always summer here. I just love this place. so happy to see it reopened after a very long Covid -19 closure. there are some renovations under way now, so part of the greenhouse is not available (sadly including the washrooms). it is free and opened 7 days a week. a few benches inside which is wonderful. it tends to be super busy on the weekends so try to visit during the week if you can. Keep in mind that it is not the most savoury part of the city and you might encounter some interesting characters around the greenhouse, but they usually mind their own business. if you miss connection with fauna, you can connect with turtles, fish and an occasional squirrel. the place is really well maintained, there are always beautiful flowers. Lovely cacti in the north part.
The garden was cozy with a variety of plants that you couldnt see outside of Toronto. The admission is free and enjoyable for people who like to explore nature plants.
Wow! Such a beautiful greenhouse! Just as good as others that I have had to pay $15 to enter...this ones free!! Its very big with many different sections that have all sorts of beautiful plants + Koi Fish and turtles!! The main building is super pretty and theyre doing renovations right now to make it even better.
I love Allan Gardens. It’s on the smaller size for a botanical garden, right downtown. There is a very lovely section of tropical plants and cacti.
Nice place for jogging/walking...sitting arrangement also provided properly. It has blossomed beautifully in summer. Superb nursery/ botanical garden..
I was visiting from our of town and was in unaware that the main entrance was closed due to construction on the building. The homeless people were kind enough to steer me in the right direction, as they were hanging out in front of the main entrance. It is a bit small in comparison to other green houses Ive been to, but lovely nonetheless. I loved the turtles in the little pond.
This place can soothe your mind and soul. Once you go in, you will no longer feel like its a place right in the middle of a busy city. A great place to spend time with your loved ones.
I came here on the final day of my plant biology course, and it was an amazing time. There were so many cool looking plants, and flowers, including some that I didnt even think Id see in Canada (like the papaya or the Dutchmans pipe). This is a great place to go to, to see all kinds of spectacular floral displays you might not be able to see anywhere else - and the best part is that its free!
Beautiful free garden with turtles, and plants. Lots of interesting flowers to admire, cacti, tropical plants. Takes maybe 30-40 minutes, nice place to take pictures.
Great variety of plants from all over the world! Its beautiful to see how they would grow and thrive in their(simulatednatural environment. Great visit for the whole family!
Truly a spectacular greenhouse! Wow, I could go there every day! Beautiful collection of plants, its open everyday, and I also cannot believe that the entrance is free. If you need some quiet time surrounded by greenery and floral heaven, then this is the place!
This is such a beautiful place during the spring!! This Greenhouse has splendid plant species, some of them I didn’t even know before. There are so different interesting passageways to explore and I especially prefer the one with turtles! 🥰
This place was closed during our last visit to Toronto, because of the Pandemic, but was open this time, so we went in. It is really amazing and the variety of plants and flowers is spectacular. We went through today and took pictures but will certainly go again to spend more time. Definitely a spot to see in Toronto!
I enjoyed it very much! Warnings, inside the green house was very humid due to the need of temperature control for tropical plants. So, just be mindful. Thank you for providing such a cool place to visit that is free of charge. Would be nice if the labelling of the plants be made more available. Would definitely visit again.
This place is so so so pretty!!! 😭I wish I lived inside, the plants are taken care of so well and its perfect for those macro nature photos. If youre ever on a nature photography hunt this is the place to go
it’s very enjoying to see this much greenery and colour while it’s cold yet and snow all around.there is no indoor washroom (so far at least). There are those blue boxes outside instead for use. That’s a negative point and hopefully they can think of a way to have a clean accessible one.
Amazing big glass house that seems like it’s coming from another era. The Art Deco architecture is stunning . The garden has a variety on interesting and amazing selection of plants and flowers from différents climates. it has 4 large rooms With différent environnement. From rare orchids to giant desert cactus to tropical carnivores plants..hundreds and hundreds of varieties. Really a nice get away in down town. it’s so calming it’s like you’re on another planet. And yes it’s free. You can visit from 9 to 5. If you’re a fauna lover expect to be amazedHighly recommended
Beautiful! Great stop, covid friendly; Won’t take much longer than 15-20 mins beginning to end.Incredible during a cold day!Turtles :)
We visited on first day of New Year. It is a beautiful gardens far beyond my imagination. So many plants we have never seen before. Besides it is free. If you visit Toronto, bookmark it to must see list.
Free and pretty and smells nice. No complaints. Check it out!Fast walk through then run away from the neighbourhood as fast as possible because its a garbage neighbourhood.
Free to public. Masks 😷 are a must and should be causeit is in a glasshouse. Allan Gardens conservatory is a pleasant cozy contained colourful winter indoors display. Exotic greens and various cacti. Couple of water features one has Gold fish and the other had tiny turtles. Paid Parking lots are within few minutes walking distance. Weird entrance, but just follow the entrance signs It takes about 45 minutes to watch and have photos. Unless you are into botany it would take more to find the signs read and observe.
Breathtaking indeed.Right in the middle of snow covered city of Toronto an amazing experience.Loved it. Will come back definitely.
Truly a breathtaking experience. Entry here is free which is a bonus. We went on a Saturday at noon, which made me think that the place would be really busy, but it wasnt! There wasnt a line to get in. No proof of vaccination needed for entry, just stay masked the whole time.
There are many kinds of plants according to the season. The green house is warm and comfortable for walking. Great environment for small animals like birds, squirrel, turtles and fish. The entrance is near the playground now.
Free admission to escape from the city to the world of plants! Wish, they do sell some of the plants. Turtle pond and fish pond are very attractive.
An absolutely beautiful hidden gem right in the middle of the city! I have no idea how I havent been until now! There are several different rooms with a variety of different plant species, even a few rooms with Koi fish and another habitat with Turtles!Added to the beautiful array of nature, (and it is oh so beautifulis the architecture that you also get to marvel in, dont forget to look up while in the dome room! The cherry ontop is that this whole experience is absolutely free! You have no excuse not to visit!
One of my favorite places to go to in the city. It’s free which is a plus. It only takes around 5-10 minutes to walk through the whole garden. The arrangements of flowers and plants are so gorgeous. Definitely would recommend. 10/10
I enjoyed visiting Allen Gardens. The staff are friendly, helpful, and polite. They have a good variety of plants including orchids, cacti, succulents, alocasias and much more. I loved getting the chance to see my favourite houseplants in their mature form. They also have a koi pond and turtle pond.
Beautiful but overlooked gem in city. Tons of exotic plants of every kind. Any Plant enthusiast must visit! And whether you’re a tourist or local, it’s great way to spend some time, at no cost!
Such a gem ✨ in the heart of City! The Allan Gardens are a lovely green place. Its a great area in the city to get in contact with a little bit of nature, and its free to enter! The place is quiet in the mornings and till midday, unless there are some rowdy folks around! Perfect spot on a few benches to sit and read, or walk slowly through and enjoy the greenery.
Amazing botanical garden! There are four large rooms that have lots of beautiful and unique plants, many of which I have never seen before. They also have a small ponds where there are fish and turtles! The rooms can get quite warm, which is normal with greenhouses. It is a short walk to the subway and entrance is free. The only downside is they don’t have a washroom.
Nice place in middle of Downtown for tourists and locals. In the beautiful cast-iron and glass building is too much hot in the summer, winter time it is better for visiting. They have nice collection of tropical plants. Visitor can see turtles and fishes as well.
