Alkantstrand Beach in Ulundi

A good beach to visit if you’d like to swim because there were many lifeguards on guard when I went to visit. Other than that, I’d say a pretty average beach, but a pleasant way to spend an afternoon if you’re in the area.

Was so sad to see the neglect and determination of Alkantstrand

Good beach, well preserved and good for picnics. The shower and swings might not be working though

Nice and clean beach. Tight security and lifeguards always on duty. But maintenance is needed on the beach eg.stairs and showers

Very beautiful beach and heavily guarded with security. I felt very safe coming here alone in the morning! It was so quiet and watching the surfers and waves come in was a joy! Reccomend if youre stopping in richards bay!

Must be able to provide an option for drinking water and some more seating benches with water view.Other than that, it is very nice and clean beach to visit.

Clean beach, wasnt very crowded, lifeguard was on duty, and the water was great.

Visiting this beach was a pleasant surprise. It was well serviced and ablutions relatively clean

Its a nice Beach but theres nothing...bogerall, niks to get as a snack or a drink. Go prepared and remember no booze allowed ...hence a spot to sit and order something would be super!

Great beach with beautiful views and other private accessible beach sites for family, or fishing,The beach is wheelchair accessible up to the lifeguard house which is very close to shores

It was awesome to swim at a protected beach with lifeguards on duty. They have excellent bathroom facilities and a nice pier to walk on. Excellent fishing and some restaurants and bars nearby. The beach was just a bit washed away, random chickens were walking around and there was some glass amongst the sand.

I liked the place. We found a really good spot near the parking lot and hosted our picnic there. Chilled vibes, cool people just enjoying themselves. The place was really clean with dustbins close by.

Well managed beach lots of space to braai and sit restrooms old but clean the only downside is that their tide can go so high that you cant swim at all

Beautiful sandy beach for family friendly fun. Area is fairly safe, and parking is plenty.

The beach allows for a variety of activities like swimming, kitesurfing and even fishing. The entrance has tight security and thorough entrance inspections are conducted for banned items such as alcohol which is not allowed. The pier has a lighthouse and the views are really amazing.

Was looking much better on our last visit and the security at the entrance made the area feel safe, was a pleasure to spend time there.

So much potential but there is so little effort put into developing the beach. It could be so much more.

Was surprised to see the place still packed with people who are still in the festive cheer. Being a local, after a lot of driving around the islands (beach), I managed to get a quite spot by the pier.. Matched the mood I was in.

Absolute no go. Very dirty, broken glass bottles every where. Public drinking and alot of noise. Not reccommended for tourism. Area not maintained.

Where I grew up. Far cry from what is was 15 years ago :-(, but still beautiful for walks along the pier.

Long overdue for a revamp to bring into 2020 as a excellent public beach. Surfing is great! Changing facilities and toilet and shower available

Good beach depending on when you go. Afternoons on paydays and on public holidays it’s a mess and personally not always safe after dark. Watch out for glass in the parking area.

Very nice beach to go windsurfing. Would not recommend to swim unless you are an experienced swimmer. No showers to clean up and bathrooms are in a horrible state

If you in the area of Eskaweni and Richard Bay, it is a much to visit this beautiful and well organized public beach.

Used to be great... not looked after. Beggers tend to scare tourists away. Not secure and safe. Sidewalk hawkers trying to make a living and bother the visitors - Not great experience at all. Maybe I just visited at wrong time. Were busy working on beach.... hope to see some improvement on my next visit.

Beach for surfers. No sand though. They have bags of sand throughout the beach to keep the sea from comming in. You literally sit on the sandbags

Its a great place to unwind and let some wind into your hair, I spotted to a dolphin couple when on one of the piers

It a safe and nice beach to visits with friendly life guards and dedicated SAPS members to keep peace and Harmony

This use to be a very beautiful and looked after beach, sadly it has lost that magic over the past few years. It is just not looked after like it was before. Also as nature goes on most part of the beach front disappeared. We use to spend many holidays here, I have very fond memories.

My kids and I have funny time when Im there even i m not prepare for them to swim

Very bad toilets out of oder shelter banch broken down no flesh water tap near the place is more then POOR now.. our municipality , the pool place is close with the stop nonsensi for what???

Lovely bay.. clean and well kept. Great veiws and lovely fishing. Day and night.

Nice beach where u can spend the whole day in nearby park with friends and/or family enjoying some quality time. Its safe and the security is tight for criminals and theres more space in the parking lot.

Beautiful place.Unfortunately ruined by the entrance being strewn full of liquor bottles and litter.

This can be a great place if the beach is maintained well, add facilities that can bring more visitors to the coast.

Very beautiful and clean place peaceful as well the people around the area are warm-hearted a pleasant trip the food cort close bye was amazing

Very nice and clean beach. Visited on week days not too much rush, kite flying can be done here, South African food is available. Surfing and finishing can be done, oher side board surfing ground is also made.

A lot of upgrade is required to restore the Alkanstrand back its former glory. But its still a place to be if you want to chill with family or friends

Clean and easy asseable. Beautiful beach. Family enjoyed the visit. Life guards on duty and alert.

They have live entertainment on the day which was great. Ample parking facilities and a lot of security around. It was hard to find the ablution facilities though.
