Calle de los Diputados, s/n, 50003 Zaragoza, Spain, Utebo
UNESCO-listed 11th-century palace now used as seat of the Aragonese Parliament, with guided tours.
This Hispano-Muslim architecture is listed as UNESCO Worlds heritage site. Great to the influence of Muslim architecture in Spain.
This was a very interesting place and we are glad we went. The architecture is fascinating blend of styles that accumulated across its 1000 year history, and there are displays about the geography, flag design, and more.Be sure to get their app (freein advance as it has a lot of information and some cool virtual reality experiences. There is very limited signage otherwise. Also, they have free guided tours daily in Spanish, and free tours during the summer months in English and French.
Must see when visiting Zaragoza. Its beautiful place and very well maintained. I recommend to reserve the guided visit for the same price as the normal ticket.
This origibally islamic palace from the Moorish times, has been reused over the centuries and is currently the seat of the Aragon parliament. Definitely worth a visit. An improvement would be to add English translation to the descriptions. One euro entrance fee for seniors.
Spectacular, pristine, amazing, original. A must see experience. Youve likely seen places like this before, but this is something else entirely. Definitely worth the visit
This is a piece of history within the Aragon crown making a journey from the XI to the XIX centuries. The ticket is €5 if you dont have any student or other discount and you can purchase it at the booth right outside the main entrance. There are guided tours at certain hours than you can join for free, so check their website to hit one of those. It you get tired half way through, you can always split from the guided group and continue on your own. There are toilets inside and a cafe, not sure the operational hours of the latter. Youll see some pieces of architecture, sculpture, painting, geography and history in general. It is worth spending 1 h to visit this pace if you are a couple of days or more in Zaragoza.
A must-visit when you visit Zaragoza. The castle is so exquisite and unique, I was mesmerised. You can spend a good 1,5-2 hours here, but you have to reserve ticket before you come. It was easy to reserve and then buy the tickets, which cost 2-3 euros (very good for this experience).
Amazing Palace with Royal soul...The pearl of Zaragoza
its called a Palace .However it looks great from the outside and then you enter and it is very underwhelming unless you like fancy ceilings. we were disappointed and wouldnt recommend. its only €5 pp but you need to pre-book a slot online.
Beautiful and lovely place, old and gold..
This is a castle with moorish influences very similar to the ones you find in Seville, Cordeba and Grenada. Having visited them all this Palace in my opinion is not as good. To visit you need to first go onto Palace website and register the date and time of your visit. This needs to be done at least 24 hours before visit. You will get an email with a reference number but you wont have to pay. On day you show email at ticket office and pay the admission fee (normally €5 per adult). There is plenty to see in terms of architecture and the gardens but very little is in any language other than spanish. You can spend €3 for an audio tour in language of your choice. Also there were parts of Palace which were off limits such as the ramparts and the tower. The Palace is about 20 minutes from centre of town or it has its own stop on the tourist bus. Its not bad for 5 euros but I have seen better.
A great day visit. Absolutely recommend the guided tour to get a much better idea of the history of the palace!!! Check the times and book in advance
A place to visit if you are staying in Zaragoza. I wish there was English translation for different descriptions throughout the palace to get 5 stars.
Fantastic! We absolutely loved it! Beautiful architecture, one of the most beautiful castles/palaces I have seen, most things are in English and the "tour" through the castle is perfectly organised. Totally worth your money! English and Spanish tours are available but youre going to be just fine without as everything is explained with signs!
Interesting palace of moorish design inside. Very reasonable entry fee. 5 EU for an adult.open in the morning and again from 4pm until 7pm
Excellent! Definitely something you must see when visiting this city! It is better if you book your visit in advance and even better if you can make it to any of the time slots with the tour guide. Beautiful
What a fantastic palace! Its not really that far from the cathedral of La Pilar and El Tubo dining area, so it total worth a visit. Entrance was only 5€.
This palace is an incredible historical site where you can see the history unfold through architecture. Highly recommend the tour, our guide Javier was great! Super knowledgeable and fun and we learned a lot.
Amazing palace for history and architecture fanatics, you could see the remains of the Islamic conquest of the Iberian peninsula in your eyes and touch it with your hands. The history that stained the architecture of Spain for hundreds of years later, creating the Mudejar style jn what was called Al-Andalus until the 12th century.
The place was closed when I arrived. The place close at 21pm. But take a tour around the castle just to get the impression of the work they have done in year 1070. Still amazing how well keept the castle. If I had the time I would go in to see the interiors as is supposed to be very beautiful. I will face that for another day. Have a gods trip inside the castle
A must see in Zaragoza. This is the 3rd most important mudejar palace in Spain and its beautiful on the inside, reminds a lot the Alhambra. It has been restored quite a lot and from the outside it doesnt say much. Beautiful ceilings and arabic-mudejar decorations. The price is 5 euros only, you can have a guided tour every hour, we went without the tour but the price its the same.
Beautiful palace with lots of history. Wish we could have seen more but totally worth it for what we were able to tour.
Pleasant way to spend an hour. Beautifully restored whilst being the political centre of Aragon. Only Euro 5. Well worth it.
If youre in Zaragoza, you should definitely visit this palace.
In the heart of Zaragoza, a castle to visit.Taking a tour would be great as it will provide you a better understanding the history of the castle.Just one guard was not friendly to an English speaking people. Other than that, the place was amazing
Disappointing impressive historic building surrounded by poor urban planning, awful urban buildings around ruin the original meaning of the place, it is also used by the government, they should not use it for hosting government here. Interior furniture does not match the building or history in it, very weird. Visit only if you are in Zaragoza, this had nothing compared to the Alahambra, just the style.
This has to be one of the top 3 must-see in Zaragoza. Make sure to book your reservation online (to be paid when you get to their ticketing counter). General admission is for €5 and students etc discounted price is for €1.Marvel at the geometric designed ceilings and just the Arabic trace up in the north. It definitely gives off an Andalusian charm. They also offer a menu del dia for €9 which we tried and weren’t disappointed.Don’t miss it when in Zaragoza.
If you love architecture this is a must see attraction. However be aware that the city of Zaragoza is not good for tourists. You may ask “why?”… well because the whole city decided to take a 4h break during the evening to have what they call siesta. So basically you can’t tour the city. But anyway great piece of history!
A beautiful palace that displays the history of the city of Zaragoza. Originally billed by more conquerors and then taken over by Christian Kings who expanded on it. The palace has a text guide which can be found online, even though the folks selling tickets did not tell us about it. Navigating the palace can be a little bit confusing if you dont use the map that you can find online. Also note that a large portion of the castle is used by the parliament of Aragon so you wont be able to see all of it. But the most important pieces like the throne room and the garden are accessible to tourists. This is definitely a palace and castle worth visiting.
Muslim palace, royal residence, inquisition prison, catholic monarchs palace, military barracks... In restoration since 1947. Practically it was rebuild completely.
Beautiful Arab arhitecture. Mighty and powerful fortress protecting Zaragoza from varios intruders.
I visited the Palace today! It’s actually breathtaking. The views are amazing and the history behind this Palace is so significant for people to know. The admission for uni students is only 1€.
A Zaragoza Must see, but with mixed feelings. Whatever remains of the magnificent medival fortress and palace built by Mudejar in the 11th century is a 5* experience. However the fortress was rebuilded several times and in different styles. All this is not very well explained. Written information is scarse and mostly in Spanish, few English entries are very poorly translated. The most recent transformation to allow an administrative function is unnecessarily brutal. Thus we end at 3*. The tickets must be ordered in advance at reservasonline.aljaferia.com
Aljafería Palace is a magnificent collection of buildings, the first of which was built by the Arabs in the second half of the eleventh century. While much of the magnificence comes from the parts built by the Arabs, one cannot ignore the opulence and excess of those built by the Spanish kings after the Reconquista. The palace has been renovated several times across the centuries, not always successfully. But dont get me wrong. The magnificence of many of the details far outweighs the comparatively insignificant transgressions. This is a place that is a pleasure to visit through and through.
Very very beautiful....this place needs to be booked atleast 2 days in advance specially in summer. .. must visit place in Zaragoza.
Palace in Saragossa was built in the middle of the 11th century. Architecturally, it is an old Islamic palace with many original rooms and objects preserved. Whats more, in the middle there is a garden where oranges are growing. Nowadays, the palace, apart from the possibility of visiting it, also serves as a state senate.
You have to book first only through phone calls and visit there during these days. Only a limited number of people can come inside at one time. But the place is a really beautiful place and all the staff are nice.
Amazing fortress/castle/palace. This also has got wonderful Mudejar features. Its very well spent hour or so walking through the interiors and around the small courtyard garden.
A very interesting place filled with an istoric past. An amazing ancient Moorish marble carving. A wonderful indoor garden. The museum holds interesting excursions. By the way, the troubadour tower is mentioned in Verdis Troubadour Opera
Beautiful historical place. Where Christopher Columbus got his money from the Spanish queen who was living here in this palace. Very few tourists. Probably one of the most underrated site in Spain
Beautiful way to see & learn about the ways the people of the land adjusted 1 palace to represent the history of the space. So many architectural influences in one massive building. Definitely worth a visit!
It was an amazing experience, the castle is well restored, beautifully illuminated. I was enamored by the architecture and the beauty of the castle. I even felt sorry when I finished the tour because I feel like there are so many untold stories that need to be revealed in that castle. It was the highlight of my visit to zaragoza
Fairy tale castle and palace, an Unesco World Heritage monument, with long, rich history, going back to 11th century from the Arabs to the Catholic Kings, surviving, heavily renovated, until our days, as the seat of local parliament.Definitely worth a visit, it isnt as spectacular as the palaces in Andalucía, but still gives an idea to the visitor about such buildings. There are things to admire, like the elaborate ceilings and floors and the sunny patios with the orange trees.Having said that, it is one of the few places that doesnt allow you to get a ticket online. And who ever heard about an historical site having the working hours of a shop?Keep also in mind that the visiting hours might change when parliament is in session, so consult the tourism site of the city before going.
Close to the train station. Should not spend more than 45min. There is cafeteria inside. The entry fee is 5€ but you get a discount if you are students.
The beauty and historical importance to Spain and the entirety of old Europe that this ancient edifice holds cant be overstated. If youre driven by architecture, history, the arts, or culture then this location is a must see, if youre in the area.
Modest when you compare it with andalusian palaces, but has many Moorish elements in its architecture - decorations mostly. Surprisingly from the outside looks like European medieval castle. Definitely worth visiting.
A very interesting place combining the Moorish roots with later Christian influences. The castle is currently a seat of the parliament of Aragon, so its bigger part is inaccesible for visitants. But still it’s worth to spend some time there, just to see the meticulously crafted ornaments and preserved original ceilings which are really breathtaking.
My friend and I stopped here on a drive from Madrid to Barcelona. It is so interesting to see the styles of Islamic architecture that was later taken over by the Aragon family into a Catholic palace. They have almost no infrastructure for English tourism though. No English guide or booklets and it would have been nice to learn more about the history of it besides wandering and admiring. We used Google translates photo option to take photos of some of the descriptions in Spanish, but still its not the best option.
This is must see place. It shows the history of the Muslims when they built the civilization in Europe long time ago. It called in Arabic Kazer Alsoror means the happiness and you can’t feel the happiness whit the first step inside the palace. What a spectacular buildings and design. You can download the official application for the place before you visit it and read carefully to know what this place was, who built it and when? Almost all information you will find in the App.
Gorgeous seen at night when its lit up; during the day, the palace offers some lovely spaces and bits of old mudéjar architecture and design. The orange grove courtyard is thoughtfully reconstructed, and the multifoil arches make a gorgeous backdrop. There are some amazing coffered ceilings, and some original tiled floors. The place can get pretty crowded, especially on Sundays as entry is free. My recommendation: go during an off hour on an off day, youll feel the vibes better.
