Rua Inhangá, 30 - Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro - RJ, 22020-060, Brazil, Rio de Janeiro
Portuguese cuisine, specializing in cod & other types of seafood, served in a cozy setting.
So good!!! I really liked their food! I got number 46 on the menu and is probably one of my favorite restaurants I’ve been too. The seafood is so fresh!
Fancy restaurant! Food service and waiters were very attentive. Highly recommended the cod fish dishes.
Great authentic food. Service was good.
This is a place off the beaten path that locals go to. Just what we wanted. While they can cater to tourists like us, be aware that they do not speak much English. But they do have a menu in English and Google Translate app works great. The place is clean and pleasant. The friendly staff went out of their way to accommodate us. The food: We cant say enough. Fantastic comes to mind. We had the fish and the filet mignon steak. And large portions! And very reasonably priced. We highly recommend them and should we find ourselves back in Rio in the future, we will make it a point to come here again.
Delicious food and fantastic service. Highly recommend the shrimp moqueca!
Excellent food and nice professional service. We had the sardine (pilchard?), shrimp risotto and the bacalhau with grated potato. Really tasty.Even though we only had the half portions, we ended up taking half of each portion to go.Recommended.
Great restaurant - a cut above many in the area.
Had the shrimp moqueca and it was really lovely, but the service was even better!
Great staff with pleasant and prompt attention to details of your dining experience.
The waiter was charming and the food was excellent. A great place to try Bacalhau for the first time. Nice atmosphere.
A choice place to enjoy Portuguese food.Along the usual codfish based specialties, would mention grilled (Portuguesesardines and of course cod fish dumplings.No-nonsense restaurant, utterly casual, one goes there just to enjoy well made, honest food.Be warned that portions are huge - one usually will be more than happy with a half portion.
Got the cod with potatoes and the filet in Port reduction with fries. Add a good bottle of wine and the meal was superb. Fantastic service. The place is kinda out of the way and we were the only customers. Do yourself a favor and try this place.
Went here twice back in 2018. Most enjoyable food experience we had in Rio.
4/5 because they had great service. Honestly, comparing to other food in Rio, this place is good. Comparing with outside of Rio, 3 of 5 at best. It tastes like food I could make at home. Its tasty and they are nice people, but its just ok.
Nice place and good atmosphere. Large portions as well.
Delicious portuguese dishes, bacalhau (codwith "batatas aos murros" smashed potatoes. Cozy, elegant, good costumer services, good variety of dishes & good prices excellent quality.
Best authentic Portuguese food. Must try the octopus appetizers and the bacalhau ( fresh dried and salted Cod I highly recommend this place.
The octopus was cooked to perfection, the staff are friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this place for anyone travelling to Rio
Unbelievable how great the food was. Steak was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Also would highly recommend the fish and shrimp moqueca. Loved the ambiance and the style of everything in the restaurant. Great job!!
This is a small but wonderful Portuguese restaurant that offers amazing dishes and excellent service. I highly recommend this restaurant for those who would like to enjoy a cozy environment, with a great wine selection and high quality food. PS: Their grilled octopus and cod “fish balls” are upstanding.
Very bland restaurant. Not really sure how it has so many ratings :-/ also pretty expensive for the lackluster food
This place is like portal bending the space-time continuum taking everybody there to Lisbon in a blink. Real bacalhau like you won’t have anywhere else in the city. Real Portuguese service, with old waiters who provide you with classic manners and rituals. Real wine, including a good selection of my favorite wine in Portugal, the “verde” Alvarinho. All of this in the heart of Copacabana, in a small and unpretentious ambiance which is all that you want from a real experience.
Smallish restaurant just off the Copa main street. Friendly and professional staff. We had bolinhos de bacalhau and sardine for starters and shared two different huge plates of bacalhau for the main course. Everything was excellent.
Bad experience there - very expensive food and not so delicious. I highly doubt about the authenticity of the comments in Google and TripAdvisor.
I don’t understand why this place has the rave reviews it does. I thinks it’s because the wait staff speak English and are really attentive and friendly. But honestly it is an utter tourist trap and the food is not inventive and mediocre at best. I had a half portion of octopus “house style” which means on a pile of onions with some olives for garnish. That plus a glass of wine was close to R$180.If you want Portuguese with great wine selections there are better options like Mercearia da Praça. For the same price I had a 3 course meal and drink at Zuka and also Iraja Gastro. Those places a different caliber with mind blowing entrees. Alafia was the least memorable meal I had in Rio.
Great, slightly formal restaurant with uniformed (and charmingwaiters and wonderful wonderful food. We loved it. And the Caipirinhas were wicked!
Traditional classic from the neighborhood, portuguese seafood style, great codfish, elder locals eat there, nice service, food goes well with olive oil, pepper and wine
Google sent me here through a general restaurant search online. Don’t fall into the same trap. Fussy service, arrogant atmosphere, over priced food. 20 Euro for a few prawns and rice. Don’t waste yore time or money.
Very nice little restaurant away from the beach in Copacabana. Very good, high class restaurant service where they serve the food to your plate for you. Mostly seafood on the menu, with some beef etc. Quite expensive unless you take the daily dish.
The fried fishballs are really good but seems to depend on preferences (my friend didnt like em that much). We chose two set menus and both were just so so. Would eat something else for that price. Though, the atmosphere is quite good and the staff are really kind.
Amazing little restaurant with great service.Staff even walked me to my taxi with an umbrella when it was raining!
Best portugese food I have had!!
There aren’t many places that serve you the meals! They do here! It helps that it tastes amazing.
This is a really great restaurant, just a short distance from the Cardeal Arcoverde metrô stop. Everything is perfect here......some of the best seafood available in Brasil. The waiters are extremely professional and actually serve the meal.....the way it used to be.
Alfaia is the best Portuguese restaurant I have found outside of Lisbon! Everything is authentic but unfortunately a little pricy because of that. I reccomend splitting a larger plate of food as you could easily serve two with the amount of food that they pile onto a plate!
Exceptional Portuguese cuisine restaurant.Best cod fish and octopus in Rio.Good selection of wines.Service is fabulous, with a typical Rio humor touch.Small but very cozy ambiance.Deserves five stars!
Amazing! We arrived in Rio today and this was our first meal. It did not disappoint and will probably be back before we leave. We dont speak Portuguese but the staff was understanding and really tried to make the experience a great one. Thank you!!
Overpriced, over-size portions, and underwhelming flavors. Its no wonder everything is offered in "half-size" portions; one regular portion can easily feed a whole family! The two of us each had one "half" portion, and we regretted it. It was way too much food. We could have split one "half" portion. The food was fine, but plain. Nothing impressive. The octopus was cooked well, but everything was entirely forgettable. And the prices... seriously? Not worth it. Ive been to Lisbon and enjoyed the food there quite a bit. I wouldnt recommend this place.
I have to say the service was wonderful. Food was pretty decent as well. However there is no charm or atmosphere to this restaurant. It was extremely busy with huge groups who were constantly in our space - it was hard to eat sometimes as peoples body parts were in the way of our arm/elbow space!!! Very overpriced considering that type of environment.
Fantastic food. Good service. We just happened to pick Portuguese wine which was a bit of a disappointment. Highly recommended restaurant
crazy good seafood! unbelievable. very nice personal, speaking english fluently, good wine, too. my tip: instead of codfish try the polpo/🐙 ;)
Best fish in town. Small restaurant with good attention by the waiters. Prices in line with other Copacobana testaurants.
Small, traditional Portuguese house at the heart of Copacabana that offers exceptionally good seafood. I strongly recommend their grilled octopus. Very good codfish too!
This was the highest rated restaurant near my hotel in Copacabana. Ive been a professional chef for the past twelve years in California, so I thought I would give it a try.I ordered the sardine appetizer and bacalhau main at my servers recommendation. To be fair, it was the best sardine Ive ever tasted. The bacalhau main was tasty but definitely not what I was expecting as far as quality for 100 heas. The fish was full of bones and the outside was fried and too tough to chew. Im still picking pieces of bones and tough meat out of my mouth the next morning.I didnt feel like wine so I ordered water, the server brought me the tiniest bottle of water which only filled my glass halfway. I noticed a sign on the wall that the restaurant provides filtered water to clients free of charge, so I asked for more water and pointed to the sign. The server stared at the sign and came back with a carafe of warm tap water. When I got the check, the server reminded me that service was not included and literally hovered over me to see how much I was tipping. Incredibly rude considering this is a fine dining restaurant.Save your money and go somewhere else. I had an amazing dinner at Bocca in Lapa.
Loved this place. Such great quality food for on the cheap. We had a big bottle of wine for about $12. The codfish is cooked amazingly, either way you have it.
The whole experience is spotless. Simply spectacular. The bacalhau options are just as well prepared as the best restaurants in Lisbon. Food is wonderful. Wine prices are very reasonable. Service is excellent. Im so glad to have found this place.
Exceptional! Even the half portions are good to share between two people. The grilled octopus was fantastic and is a must try.
Any of the cod (bacalhauPortuguese specialties are a must. Mostly a fish place. Excellent service.
The food is very nice and the flavor is unbelievable nice. Staff also very friendly. I will go back thats for sure
A lot of seafood dishes here. I tried a fish stew kind of dish and it was very good. 1/2 portion is a big portion for one person. Prices are reasonable. Service is great.
