Notable paleontology museum offering a vast selection of fossils & specimens, plus history exhibits.
They charge $12 per person for a tiny museum. And they ask for your ID and ask u covid questions. Ive been to huge theme parks and they dont put me through that. I spent time waiting to get in for a brief experience. Honestly ridiculous. Not to mention you have to wear a mask and there is mask police on your case while your walking around. Stop being so difficult and take it easy people. Not worth the trouble or money.
Had a great time with the family! Kids loved it and so did we. I highly recommend!
Absolutely wonderful! Medium sized museum but they have so many exhibits and fossils!
A hidden gem. The exhibits here are well-maintained and interesting! Good spot for life drawing, in my opinion.
Very interesting place.
Upstairs downstairs.. kids love it. Has plenty of fossilss and other cool stuff 2play around with... I wouldnt plan on making it a whole day thing. Its a cool little quick museum to check out.. but at most maybe like an hour to see everything 3times or more
Great collection of dinosaur fossils.
This image was really great. Super small but super informative. Masks are required which is fantastic. We will be going back.
This is such a great museum. Its just the right size with a really great collection. Very fun for both kids and adults. My 5 year old cant wait to go back.
Great small museum, well kept and local spot to support. My son enjoyed it
Very nice but small museum. Takes about an hour to walk around it. Be aware you have to have a reservation and go through a security gate.
Amazing museum. So many actual artifacts and incredible fossils! Laid out wonderfully with very helpful and friendly docents around. All wrapped in a Millard Sheets building with a Sheets mural, of course!
Small, interesting, well-organized paleontology museum. The layout is chronological, with fossils and models illustrating each era. Its sometimes not clear whether you are looking at an actual fossil, a model of a fossil, a cast or an artists impression. You can see into the lab where fossils are prepared. The downstairs has interactive exhibits for kids - all closed and covered with masking tape as of August 2021. Note that they have VERY strict COVID protocols, including a temperature check (worthless), a long list of questions, including "Have you traveled out of state?" and take a scan of your drivers license. Im sure they will delete the scan and wont use it for other purposes.
Great fossils! Great place to bring the kids to learn more about the reptiles.
Well organized. Nice selection. Its on the small side, but plenty to see for a family outing.
Fun place to visit, especially with older children.
When you pull up there will be a gate and signs that say private property...dont worry,, you are in the right spot. The gates will open automatically and there is a small building with a person who will direct you.. We enjoyed our visit but it took less than 30 min to go through the entire museum. All of the interactive displays were closed. If they had been open it probably would have taken just about 30 min to go through it. If you have a kiddo who loves dinosaurs this is a nice little place to go. You can get pretty close to the fossils. There are plenty of signs to remind you not to touch. If you have a kiddo who feels the need to touch everything this may not be the best place for them unless you hover over them every minute. If you dont live close make sure you plan another activity in the area to make the drive worthwhile.
This is a great museum. Very informative, super interesting. Love coming and fun for everyone.
What a amazing virtual experience. As a teacher I would recommend this to other teachers. My students were totally engaged.
Really enjoyed this museum. Small but well organized, informative and relaxing.
Are you searching for traces, dinosaurs and large rinoceros...this is the best place to visit!
As a guy who loved paleontology, this is the absolute perfect place to learn and discover fossils. I highly recommend to people who love dinosaurs or paleontology
Was informed about this hidden gem. Amazing. Very informative and visually fascinating. Small but thorough. Such fascinating local history.
Not stroller or wheelchair friendly. Theres no elevator. If you want to go downstairs, you have to take baby out of stroller and walk downstairs where, ironically, the childrens area is.
I went to the museum yesterday (6/5/19), had a great time. The facility is great, the staff very friendly and helpful, and security at the gate were also great. Any and all questions asked were answered and the short visit with the officer at the gate was also good. Ill definitely go again. I only regret I have no children to take, but I will let friends with kids know about the facility.
This is good musium. Very informative, although it is a lot of reading. Very cool exhibits nevertheless. The campus this is set on is absolutely beautiful however they will not allow you to walk it :( however for the price and if you are close it is a great way to spend an hour or two
Its not very big but its packed full of stuff to look at. And all the bones are about an arms reach away (but do not touch!). I dont think this place warrants repeated trips but if you are in the area with kids, definitely check it out.
Incredibly interesting paleontology museum tucked into our hills. I definitely want to go back sometime.
I took my 5 year old son to this museum because he loves dinosaurs and it was not far from home. Although this museum is small, it truly is a hidden gem, especially if you live in the area. Not only the history behind all the fossils found is interesting, but the fact that the students at the school have participated in finding them makes it even cooler. The donation fee is small and goes to a good cause (we paid $9 for the both of usand helps fund the small museum and the activities they have for families on the weekends. Children 4 and under are free, and there are student discounts. I gave it four stars because this museum is on a school campus, therefore you have to check in with a security guard and you cannot go in without a drivers license and a visitor tag. You can not explore the campus because it is a highschool campus. Definitely eat before or after because they dont allow picnicking!
Its a nice place it was supposed to be a private tour butrhere was a lot of people there. Its clean thats always a plus.
Had a great visit. The three year old was entertained for quiet a while here
The museum is small but has a lot of information on paleontology and origins of life organisms. Many of the casts and replicas were provided by actual students from Webb High School. There are some fun interactive displays for kids to check out on the lower level.
They have the best dinosaur fossils ever best place I’ve ever went to
This is at a working School be careful, Google guides you to a parking lot behind the classrooms. Security will find you quickly. It was an awesome experience, and I think it is friendly for kids, especially downstairs where they have exhibits and you can get Hands-On with. Nice small building easy to navigate Museum. Deals heavily fossilized tracks, I think the largest collection in the world. You can speed through in an hour or spend a half-day here.
Found this hidden gem after visiting my grandmother in La Verne. How did I not know this place was there? It’s located on the Webb campus in Claremont; such a beautiful campus. Went with my two children (ages 9 & 11). Having just seen Jurassic World last night, I think it made it even better! Upstairs has lots of fossil replicas and downstairs there are more hands on experiences. We even got to see volunteers casting a fossil. Staff was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions.
Fun place for the whole family. Great place for parents and adults alike. Very educational and cool.
Very cute and informative museum, and also very interactive. The museum is small but has a lot of info packed and many models of bones to look at. Very good for children in learning and seeing dinosaur bones. They’ll like it !
Since the museum is hidden on the campus of private boarding school, The Webb Schools, my husband and I actually passed it the first time around. Its a really small museum and while okay for adults interested in paleontology, is not that good for children as there is really a lot of deeper reading involved and not too many simple or interactive exhibits or activities. For us to drive out to Claremont is the same time it would take us to get to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and that one is so much better for children and adults alike. The setup is simple- there are two stories, the first floor being underground. The entire museum goes around in a simple circle, so theres no getting lost or missing anything. An interesting aspect of the museum is that the students of the school there partake in in finding and curating of the fossils for the exhibits, which is so cool. There isnt a whole lot of parking, so they actually allow you to park on the grass near the parking lot if its full, so parking is also free. Yay for that! It was an interesting experience and Im glad we got to try it but I wouldnt do it again when there are better options around.
Fun fun fun! Crazy adventure trying to find this place. Totally lost our way but it was not so bad because my date was the perfect person to be lost with.
Great hidden gem. Safe secure location. Was perfect for our dino loving toddler! Be sure to use the restroom for some extra little exhibits and a fish tank!
Good place for kids interested in dinosaurs..has some hands on activities for them too
Had a great time! Worth the trip, fun for the little ones and some awesome fossils!
A small and beautiful museum. Hidden away but I cannot recommend the Alf Musuem enough. Friendly staff, a wonderful representation of evolutionary biology. Housed in a cylindrical building with two floors, the bottom holds footprint impressions, early California mamalian skeletons and a interactive area for children.
Beautiful museum, with amazing staff. The fossils are in superb condition.
Lots of information and specimens presented very well. $6 entrance fee.
this is a super nice museum small up has a lot to see friendly care takers . thank you ALF.
Its smaller than I expected but really enjoyed it. Very informative and the staff was really friendly and knowledgeable.
Great little museum, reasonable priced
This museum is amazing! Our three girls are huge dinosaur fans. In fact, our oldest wants to be a paleontologist! This museum is for the young and old. It is small enough to not get overwhelmed, yet big enough to hold amazingly wonderful dinosaur treasures! They have hands on activities children. A must see and visit!
FREE every Wednesday, Parking is FREE. $3 per person, 4 and under FREE. No strollers, but they have parking station for them.My toddler and I enjoyed the museum. My toddler favorite things were the dinosaurs, downstairs they have a discovery section that you pull down a lever to hear the sound of a dinosaur, looking at the mirror and comparing the size of himself to the dinosaur, and digging for fossils. This is a 1-2 hour museum. Not crowded. What we did to make it a day was go to Memorial Park in Claremont and had a picnic lunch - they have a wading pool for the kids during the summer months from 11:30am - 1:30pm. After lunch headed over there.socalpocketmemories.blogspot
