Alexander the Great Statue - Monument in Polygyros, Greece
MACEDONIA THE ONE AND ONLY!
Alexander the Great riding his horse Voukefalas statue, the tallest statue in Greece. Build in 1973
Great centrepiece to the harbour area depicting macedonian hero
beautiful
As far as statues of generals on horseback go, this is probably the best one of them all. Visiting this as a tourist is mandatory.
Fantastic.Brings you back to the Ancient Greek of the Great General who hat expanded his kingdom where no one has done. His kingdom went so far as 43 countries territory today.
A very nice statue near the centre, close to the sea. Many young people are skate boarding here and it is nice to see the history with modern life.
Thessalonikis most iconic monument.
A truly magnificent statue of Alexander. Recommend seeing this monument.
Great History 300m from White Tower.😁
The statue and the person it represents are both amazing. My only issue is that at night the statue isnt too well lit so you cant really take a photo of it.
Statue of the most well known ancient hellenic person, the Macedon king Alexander The Great (there was no "Greece" at that time, but Macedon was as hellenic as the city states of Athens, Sparta, Marseille in France or Kerch in Crimea). In his short lifetime of just 33 years, 2300 years ago, he commanded his armies to conquer a landmass from Macedon eastwards up to Pakistan and laid the foundation of Greek/Hellenic cultural dominance in the entire Asia Minor, Middle East and Egypt until the arrival of Muslim Arabs 1300 years ago.
Big statue, good place for sight seeing
Impressive statue dedicated to the conqueror of the ancient world. Placed by the water, it’s a wonderful location and photo op.
They should clean the statue.
Its a cool place for relaxation! But nothing important to see.
Great Alexander’ s statue at Thessaloniki!
One of the best places to chill your mind.
Our macedonian hero in solun...clean place with a stunning environment.
Amazing historical monument in Tesaloniki.
King of Macedonia, Pharaoh of Egypt, King of Persia, Lord of Asia. All that until 32 years, when he died.Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μέγας
There was only one True king and that was Philip Now that Im awake and understand spiritualityThis is a joke
Statue in Greece and more specific in Thessaloniki by sea side. Historical momentum personality of Alexandre the Great, emperor of Macedonian empire. Alexandre was Greek by all means. Name of his Futher was Philippos B also great man, king and worrior. Alexandre, from the first moment seems that he has something special in good way and different as new born emperor. Macedonia Empire was the 2nd one in dimensions after empire of Genghis Khan moggolian emperor.Alexandre study at Aristotle university together with his friend and after his Admiral Nearchos. Dies on his 33 years from fever.
Greate plase for walk and rest on the sea side next to monument. Monument with a history. Worth to see
Its big!
Alexander is riding towards Athens as shown with this magnificent monument. Many great symbols on the shields are shown next to this statue. Ancient symbols of mythological signs and the crests of major city states. This is my favorite attraction in Greece and I recommend visiting it and paying this man tribute by sitting in the relaxing and great park nearby. He united the feuding Greeks, Macedonians and other people to bring peace and harmony. He defeated quarreling lords who had mainly their own well-being, corruption or other bad ideals in mind and action instead of serving their fellow people as good leaders should do.Rulers who saw his good intention did not fight him. They submitted for the greater good. This man was calledAlexander the Greatand there was no other like him.👑🌍
A big man with a big dream deserves an even bigger statue. Although I think the statue should be 100x bigger, it is still a wonderful one and with some angles makes it look really epic.
Alexander the Great statue!
Impressive statue, nice park. What more do you want? it’s a statue.
Another photo from Thessaloniki! 💙 This bronze statue of the one and only Alexander the Great is found near the iconic White Tower which I shared in my last post.Thinking back to seaside strolls along Thessaloniki’s coast does make me miss the little moments of traveling before the pandemic. If we could still travel like we did, where would you go? ✈️...Park , Heykel , Müze , Sanat , Orman , Arkeoloji , Kitap, Resim, Kafe , Çay
A most impressive monument of Alexander the Great, one of the greatest leaders of the ancient time, along the beautiful promenade of Thessaloniki. A must site for everyone who visits this beautiful city!
"There is nothing impossible to him who will try” - Alexander the Great
Nice place by the sea side, but I think its need more trees and green around and more branches of course. Also dont know why the city hall made the park with the fountains around if ithey never work, the drink water station, the filter in which was changed God knows when, is broken and its always a puddle around it. No public toilet around, the biggest problem of the city in general.
Very nice for taking some pictures
Historically important monument and pride of all Greeks. In the area of Nea Paralia, one of the most popular, full of energy sites of Thessaloniki, it is possible to find the monument of one of the most famous and influential personalities of all times. A person who created a legend still heard until today. This is the monument of Alexander the 3rd, also known as Alexander the Great. Its rich and interesting history is more or less familiar to everyone. Born in 356Bc in Pella, Macedonia he was the son of King Philip the 2nd of Macedon and Princess Olympia whose origin was from Epirus. He had the privilege to be educated by one of the greatest philosophers of all time, Aristotle. Alexander inherited the throne of the Macedonian Kingdom right after his fathers assassination in 336 Bc. He used some of the most genius strategies and military tactics thus ending up in some of the greatest triumphs in human history.Until his death in 323Bc in Babylon he had already created an enormous empire stretching from Thrace and Macedonia to the depths of Egypt and the Indian Peninsula in the Far East. New commercial trade routes were established for the first time. Establishing a touch between civilizations that had never met before.Alexanders achievements had set the foundation for the era to come. He was credited with the rise of Greek civilization that spread all over the world at an unprecedented level thus influencing science, art and culture. The monument on the shore itself is an impressive six-meter tall monument that represents Alexander while riding his horse "Voukefalas" (Bucephalus), one of the most famous horses of antiquity. Certainly nice to see.
Important monument to visit if passing through a Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki city carries the name of Alexander’s half sister Thessalonike of Macedon (Thessalonike - Thessalian victory - by the victory of Battle of Crocus Field). Sister got named in the honor of the battle and the city got named after sister :)

One of Thessaloniki`s physical trademarks , you can easily spot during a walk by the bay. Its being used as a meeting spot among locals, while you might find young and professional skaters around it.
Magnificent statue. If you know a bit of Greek history you can get but only goosebumps.
