Contemporary dishes, predominantly fish, served in spacious rooms of a former pub, with real fires.
Enjoyed our night very much wonderful food good service definitely will be back again soon.
Absolutely delightful lunch. Everything was perfect. The service was excellent and the food divine
We had a table for 7 people on a Saturday night for a family birthday celebration, Seated in the conservatory area was perfect for our larger group. Staff were attentive and lovely. The sticky beef salad and dressed crab starters were given high praise but the 5 of us having the tempura soft shell crab which is usually delicious found it disappointingly soggy and tasted simply very oily. All were left unfinished, even by my sons all of whom had been so looking forward to itMains however were up to usual standard the wild sea bass with Sri Lankan curry sauce was amazing, crisp skin ,perfectly cooked fillet and a smooth fragrant sauce. The monkfish with scallops and prawns in a lemon butter sauce was also a hit.I have eaten here quite a few times and this is the first time we have ever had any unpalatable foodWe were v conscious it was a celebratory meal so didn’t want to detract from the atmosphere that night but certainly under other circumstances the tempura starters would have been sent backOverall it would not stop us returning as the rest of the experience was so positive
Great food and excellent service. Wine selection also worth a mention. Highly recommend. Will be back soon.Visited again. Oct 22. Another excellent meal and wine. They also make a very good ‘old fashioned’. Looking forward to trying the Sunday roast soon.
Yet another great visitFood amazing always fresh and well presentedStaff very good with just amount of friendliness
We love it here, which is why we chose Alec’s to celebrate our anniversary and birthdays with family. All the staff go above and beyond. Food is fantastic and wine selection top notch service brilliant. We Will definitely be back!
Absolutely fantastic. Staff are warm and friendly, the restaurant is immaculate and the food was stunning. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Incredible experience each and every time.I’ve eaten here 3 times now and can confidently say that the mains have been the best 3 meals of my life. The service in impeccable. The ambience is wonderful.Perfect venue for a special occasion or if like me last night, you just want an extra special evening with your better half
A restaurant with stunning decor, amazing service and even better food. Visited here celebrating a new job and the staff made it feel extra special. We ordered Chorizo Bites, cockles, brown crab, monkfish, and surf and turf, everything cooked to perfection. The staff placed a congratulatory touch to the end of the meal also which ended a great dining experience.
Alecs did not disappoint our wonderful birthday lunch. We were first to arrive and welcomed by front of house. We were shown to our table and asked what we were celebrating. We received complimentary prosecco and cucumber and salmon pate canapés. Our drinks were lovely and most of all the food was absolutely delightful as was the excellent service. We shall definitely be back. Thank you Alexis for showing us around
absolutely fantastic food and service , went for an anniversary meal and everything was really good will definitely be going back the halibut was perfectly cooked cooked and the sides where really nice
Superb lunch. 4 of us travelled from different locations - East Sussex, west Sussex and Hertfordshire. We all went for set menu worked out about £65 per person with tips etc.Service was fantastic and a very friendly setting. Felt very underdressed and hadnt read the requirements around smart dress - we will definitely make the effort next time as they make the effort with the quality of the food and service. Can thoroughly recommend Alecs for a proper lunch where you go home feeling satisfied, stuffed but content. Recommend you book out the rest of day/evening to crash out on the sofa!
Has anyone suffered or had any adverse ill effects when dining at Alec‘s restaurant in Navestock Brentwood? I mention this as my wife and I, along with our 2 sons dined there on Saturday the 10th of September and 6 to 7 hours after our meal our 2 sons were violently ill complaining of severe stomach cramp, diarrhoea, headaches and vomiting. From what I understand these symptoms are sometimes associated with shellfish/prawns contaminated with bacteria. As a result, they were both not well enough to go to work for 2 days. I have not got any evidence that this was down to the food we were served but coincidentally both my sons had pill pill prawns as a starter which me and my wife didn’t have.I would grateful to hear from anyone who dined at Alex’s on Saturday 10th or Sunday 11th September who ordered pill pill prawns to establish if they also had any side effects.I have spoken to the restaurant who state they served this dish 27 times that particular day and said that they had no other complaints and will not be taking any responsibility.
Fabulous 18th birthday celebration. Nothing is too much trouble for the team at Alecs. Beautiful food and surroundings makes for a real dining experience.
Very nice interior and setting. Excellent staff and food. Felt very relaxed and will certainly be back.
We had a great afternoon at Alecs the staff where amazing and the food was incredible. I recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
Wonderful food, excellent service and thoughtful support throughout meal. Thank you
Absolutely lovely food, a wide range of seafood dishes plus meat, steaks, Sunday roast and a couple of vegetarian options.Staff are attentive, polite and lovely. If you arent driving then they can book you a taxi home but it might be best to pre-book one beforehand.
This restaurant is absolutely superb. Went for lunch mid-week - they serve a lunch menu from 12 - 2.30pm which will certainly have something to please everyone. From the starters to the mains to the sides, absolutely everything was delicious. The service is superb - we were there for my other halfs birthday and they treated us really well. The owner was in the house too and hes very friendly and chatty. Its not cheap to eat there, but you absolutely wont be disappointed. 100% recommend.
Amazing good quality food, served by very attentive staff. You get what you pay for so if your stingy dont bother.
Very good choice of mainly fish dishes. Nicely presented. Very pleasant staff. Great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
A really nice experience. Food was very nice. Staff were really helpful. Even brought a little desert with a candle for her birthday and we sang happy birthday to her. She was delighted. Thanks very much...👏👍
Lovely setting and atmosphere in the restaurant. Waiting staff were attentive and each course came out quickly. That said I dont think the food lived up to the prices. Soft shell crab starter and lobster mac and cheese were both very good but both mains were just average and you have to get veg on the side which at £7/8 each were pretty bland.
My husband took me here as a suprise for my 30th birthday, I love fish food it was absolutely Beautiful the staff are so welcoming and friendly we sat in the conservatory part the views were amazing !
We were there for team dinner. Very nice food and fantastic service. Also nice beautiful sunset view. The lobster and scallops was fresh. The portion of tiramisu is big and taste really good. There also served a good range of cocktail.Quite a pose and pricey restaurant but our company paid the bill so I dont mind.
Not being a devotee of fish restaurants. We have not returned here for some time. Fine dining it is - with prices to match. Cannot fault the various elements. Excellent for a celebration.
It was a faultless experience, everything was perfect, not cheap but you got the best
Excellent venue, delicious food and great wine. We got a seat in the conservatory area where our dinner was accompanied by a sunset over some beautiful countryside. We went lobster heavy (bisque, thermidor, mac & cheeseand not only did it taste great, the portions were far more generous than I am used to when ordering lobster. Service was perfect throughout with all the staff incredibly friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning in the future!
OK, so this is really simple: if you are looking for somewhere special to eat, with superb food and good wine, all with great service...then this is the place for you. You are advised to book well in advance as a restaurant this good is bound to be popular. Menu is predominantly fish but there is still a decent selection for the carnivores, so something for everyone (veg/vegan will need to check). Highly recommended.
I don’t know where to start with this review, the building, the decor, the view, the service, the food, the restaurant design all was amazing. We enjoyed every single course and had a great time. The owner Ajay showed us and everyone how much of a great host he is. Already I can’t wait to visit again.
The food was very good, just about worth the high price. Bar prices are a bit cheeky with a 330ml bottle of lager costing £5.50. The service is excellent, great staff and the food delivery was timed perfectly to make sure all 10 of us got served at the same time.
Love this place. Always plenty of room for parking. Beautiful views out the back. Staff are friendly, welcoming and professional. Food is divine. Cocktails are delicious. Been here a couple of times and will be back again. It is relatively pricey but justified in my opinion
Good choice menu, from set meals to Ala Carte. Very friendly staff, welcoming and attentive.Lovely decor, very stylish.
Alex‘s restaurant ticks all the boxes first class and more from the greeting at the front door to the friendly polite accommodating staff the beautiful decor and the food is to die for, not found another restaurant that comes anywhere near Alex’s standards I would sincerely recommend it to all my friends well done Alex !and thank you for a most enjoyable afternoon it’s not our first visit but we will be coming again and again and again
I leave the venue with mixed emotionsArriving at the venue not a lot of parking available due to volume f customers. On arrival well received and taken to my corner seat. Comfortable seats and nice views.I decided to have the set lunch as no taster menu (my normal choice). First to arrive was an unannounced and unexplained amuse bouche in the form of a fish. The pastry was dry and quite hard, with little attractive texture and uncertain and unexplained content n the fish. The bread served with butter was pleasant but unexciting. The “pil pil” prawns had a mild sauce, three prawns were a bit lonely on the plate. For main I had hake salmon and with a couple more prawns. The sauce was apparently Vietnamese, one less prawn than the starter. I do think the prawns were a little on the cooked side, lacking texture and a bit solid. The absolute highlight was the HUGE and tasty pavlova. The set price menu is reasonably good value. The a la carte menu is set at prices equivalent to Michelin starred level, sadly I don’t think the cookery is quite there.Staff are efficient and in most cases friendly if a little inconsistent. The venue itself is well decorated and laid out if some tables are a tad close for comfort.Toilets are upstairs and well presented.Would I return? I don’t think so, there really isn’t enough to attract for a return. It’s I guess an ok experienceMassive kudos to the owner, he rang me within an hour of posting to discuss my review and was very receptive to instituting change.
Love it here so much I want to try everything on the menu. Amazing food, beautiful setting. Service is always on point. Looking forward to my next visit x
This is a fabulous experience. The waiting is very attentive but not too fussy. The food and drinks were fantastic. Cant wait for my next visit for a very special occasion
The Restaurant has a really nice vibe! The service was very professional, helpful and competent. The food was very very good.... Except the Oysters! Dont get the Oysters! 5 of our group had them and were really sick for the next few days with temperature, vomiting and the whole package.Thats why I gave 3*
We were there for a friends birthday on 18 Feb. Manager and staff were amazing especially during a brief power cut due to storm Eunice. They made sure everyone was OK and reassured that drinks and food would still be served. They must have been under immense pressure but you would never know it. Fabulous 👌.
Lovely place and cosy atmosphere, the food was amazing and the service friendly and quick. Went there for my husband’s birthday who loves seafood and he truly enjoyed it. Definitely will be back, I only wish you were closer to us 🙏😁
Always an enjoyable meal, service was very good and attentive. Nice atmosphere in here and cocktails are always great.
It is a lovely seafood restaurant with a nice view. Service is very good. Very festive towards Christmas.
Food was lovely and the service was great.
Ate here on a Wednesday lunchtime and even then it was quite busy. The service was excellent, with appropriate attention paid to one of us being gluten intolerant. The food was very good and it was difficult to narrow down choices from the relatively small but varied menu. The photo shows the monkfish and prawns I had. Sides were very good too (probably ordered slightly too much! and nice touches such as bread provided automatically, a complimentary glass of prosecco and amuse-bouches.I should also add that the food was all very reasonably priced. The drinks selection looked really comprehensive but I was driving so couldnt take advantage.Really enjoyed our visit!
Oh my god, the food was absolutely amazing and the staff are lovely, would definitely recommend this restaurant if your looking for nice food you will not be disappointed.
What a beautiful restaurant service was great food was exactly how I wanted it and my dessert was the best I ever had I will be going back deffo
Food was delicious, service excellent, beautiful view from the conservatory. If you havent been there get a move on, your missing out.
Visited for the first time with my partner & her family for a 60th birthday. Although the location is out of the way, it makes for a beautiful setting. We were sat on the terrace with brilliant views of the Essex countryside & sunset. As a group we ordered a mix of seafood & red meat which all went down a treat, myself opting for a surf & turf option which was comprised of a fillet of beef and king prawn. The steak was cooked to perfection. We did not have dessert as we brought along a birthday cake. The service was very good on the night and the bill was super-reasonable, even though there were 6 of us. Will return!
Exceptional restaurant with fish and meat dishes. Delicious desserts and prompt, polite service. The sunset from the conservatory over the fields can just add to the ambiance. Well worth a visit and you pay for what you get.
Most enjoyable evening celebrating our 10 year anniversary. Staff very friendly but remained very professional throughout. Food was very good and at an excellent price of £29.50 for 3 courses. Will definitely return 😁
