192 Derby Rd, Nottingham NG7 1NF, Lai
Stylish, brick-clad British eatery offering elevated & veg-centric dishes alongside meat & wines.
Me and my partner came for a 7 course lunch with wine pairing. We have both been to other venues with expensive taster menus before and had a wonderful time. The bill at Alchemilla came to £410, in honesty the experience wasnt bad but it was far from good, and it certainly didnt deserve this price tag. We found that 75% of the menu came with some sort of white sauce and it left both of us a bit fed up of it all, by the time we got a red meat dish and the only glass of red wine for a 7 course meal it was a bit too late. In addition the bread they served us had a hair in it and one of the glasses of wine was corked. I dont have a problem spending money but I begrudge that meal and unfortunately Ill never return.
Great restaurant. Very very special tasting menu, professional and friendly staff.
Had the seven course taster menu and wine pairings. The food was nice some wasnt to my taste but thats my own personal choice not the fault of the restaurant. The restaurant was lovely in its unusual setting and couldnt fault the waiting staff at all they were all fantastic. Only took a point off as I found it slightly expensive.
A belated anniversary meal... and the venue, food and service made all the waiting worth while... stunning amazing evening brilliant. Fine dinning in Nottingham as good as London or else where this is a venue we will return to. You guys are fabulous 👌 thank you for making our meal a perfect celebration of us x
Food got some interesting propositions, but nowhere near to the price charged. The service is poor and unfriendly .The place is amazing though .The wine options proposed , limited and one-sided.
Vegetarians, vegans and pescatarians of the world rejoice, Alchemilla offers a tasting menu for each diet. And not one where you are treated as an inconvenient second class dining citizen, but one where vegetarians and vegans are welcomed with open arms by chef Alex Bond.We had the 10-course vegetarian tasting menu with wine flight and a whole host of other goodies and surprises. The team were exceptionally attentive without being stuffy. A fine balance of professional and friendly. If I could afford to eat here every month I would. We will be back, thank you.In summary, flawless, my dear.
Charming resteraunt. Michelin style service and some dishes exquisite but not cheap. If you can afford it, dont hesitate
Exquisite flavours, both with the meat and vegetarian dishes (3 meat eaters and 1 veggie). We had the 7 course tasting menu, with at least 5 “bites”/canapés. The wine pairings were excellent, and really added to the flavours and experience. A host of knowledgeable staff and sommeliers who offered service. It’s not cheap but it is absolutely worth it.
Exceptional food. We had the 10 course vegetarian menu which was a really good experience food wise. The seating we had was a disaster and ruined our experience. Extremely noisy and chaotic. We just finished our meal and it feels like we had a fine dining meal inside a dishwasher.Commented on this ealy on during our meal, but staff was unable to reaccomodate. However, very pleasant staff and service.Made the trip to Nottingham because of this restaurant, so very disappointed and sad based on that. If you live in the area; ask for take-away as the food is good, but the over-all experience is disappointing.
An experience to be repeated excellent anniversary night. The staff the service the food all a delight! Lovely chilled night no pretence. Perfect
What a great evening spent dining here with the 7 course taster menu with wine pairings. All the staff were amazing .. not pretentious or stuffy but good fun with a sense of humour backed by the knowledge of the food we were eating and the wine we were drinking. Superb! The wine guy was brilliant and made the night for me. Highly recommend.0
Its not everyday you celebrate your ten year anniversary, so wanting to do something special, I booked the award winning Alchemilla restaurant in Nottingham.Due to an URGENT last minute change, they were able to kindly move our booking by a few days, despite being against their policy. We arrived early for roof top drinks, which is like a little slice of privacy on a usually busy street. We went for 7 courses as wed done 10 previously, and its simply food on another level. Each bite is carefully created to give you an amazing mix of flavours, textures and is quite simply, an experience. For what can only be described as perfection, visit Alchemilla in Nottingham.
A fabulous culinary treat. Choice of 7 or 10 course tasting menu which was very well thought through. Strong emphasise on reducing waste but not losing the focus on flavour. Staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Great drinks menu with some really unique options and it was brilliant to have a range of interesting and unique non-alcoholic options too. A fabulously relaxed evening. Definitely worth a visit.
An amazing restaurant from every aspect. The friendly service from entering, drinks in the garden and in the restaurant. The experience is so worth a visit and we will definitely be visiting again! Amazing food in an amazing setting. Its lovely to see Alex on the pass when you enter and leave. The care from him and his staff to make your evening perfect is clear to see. Thank you!
My Husband and I went for our 10th Wedding Anniversary. The food was amazing. The staff serving us were very knowledgable about the menu and wine they were serving. They were friendly and very professional. It was an all round fantastic dining experience.
Great service but very questionable food. Two of the three desserts were very sour and inedible, but forced myself to eat it!
What a great experience. The 7 course tasting menu was delicious, every course interesting, full of flavour and texture and each one beautifully presented. The service was well paced, delivered by knowledgeable, enthusiastic, smiling people who obviously enjoy what they do. The wine list is full of hidden gems and has bottles at sensible prices as well as by the glass. Loved the roof garden. One of our party has food intolerances and they dealt with them without compromising the dishes in any way. A real achievement. Will be coming again.
My wife and I were very impressed with the first class level of service while we waited for our table in the roof terrace as well during our 5 course tasting menu. The food was very delicious where we would recommend a visit for any occasion.
Alex Bond has regenerate this old stables into a vibrant dining experience with outstanding service and excellent food with superb food and wine with well trained and knowledgeable staff. Alex Bond should be well proud of the fantastic staff that he has trained. Highly recommend. . Best experience in years
We had the 7 course Vegetarian on Saturday Incredible experience. The venue is beautiful, the service was near faultless. All of the canapes were exceptional, especially the tart, which was filled with many layers of complementary and surprising flavours. My favourite course was possibly the first one, called Kohlrabi, Chantarelle, burnt lemon and brown butter, which was phenomenal. Absolutely bursting with incredible flavour, like a smack in the face of deliciousness.Closely followed were the Artichoke, Koji and Truffle dish, and the roasted squash, Koji, and coffee dish. Both were brilliant in their own ways, and the coffee dish especially was genius. The main course was a delicious potato terrine, but the real star of the show was an incredible mushroom consome, by far the best sauce Ive ever had. The hen of the woods mushroom was also deliciousOn the other hand I found the potato dish to be quite underwhelming with not as much flavour as Id like. I was very underwhelmed by the truffles that were in two of the dishes. I had never had truffles before and had heard so much about them, but I found the truffle to be completely tasteless. The two desert courses were very good, but not quite up to the standard of the savoury courses. The staff were also very generous in providing a £100 voucher for us after a mistake that was entirely our own, not realising the initial voucher bought for us included the wine pairings.Taken together it was an unforgettable experience with some absolutely exception food. All the courses were very good, and most were mindblowingly so. I can only imagine a Michelin star is not far away!
Third time here now. Amazing tasting menu again this time with ten courses. Really enjoyed it and cant wait until we go again in a month or so.
Absolutely mind blowing experience!Stunning location and building, super helpful and friendly staff, and some completely bonkers and amazingly tasty courses. An amazing experience.
Excellent fine dining with set menus only. The highest quality seasonal ingredients served imaginatively. Optional wine pairing and cheese menu. Portion sizes are appropriate, the food is rich and thoughtfully prepared. There is no way you could leave feeling hungry or disappointed.
Exceeded our expectations, and they were high to start with. Lovely venue, excellent service and exceptional food. Highly recommended, cant wait to visit again.
A great dining experience. The tasting menu offers a series of great dishes that are creative, experimental and delicious. They seem to focus a lot on texture and mouth feel. The wine pairings are also spot on, and add a real transformation to each dish. Though prepare to be bamboozled, with what appears to be a culinary version of the generation game. Overall, it can get quite expensive, so it probably should have 4 pound signs rather than 3. I would recommend it for special occasions or for genuine dining art.
I cannot praise the staff enough from entering to leaving. We were greeted with politeness and friendliness. We had wine pairings with our meal and Rebecca was so knowledgeable and informative about the wines it truly enhanced the meal experience. We opted for 7 courses and were full but not unpleasantly so.Each course was a complete taste and texture sensation. I cant say we all enjoyed everything because we all have different tastes but we did appreciate the detail in everything we ate.A wonderful dining experience in a fantastic setting, served by people who have a knowledge that is beyond what you can read and a passion for the place they worked and the people they worked with.
First time here, and excellent service and food. 7 course tester menu with wine. Took just under 4 hours for this food journey and it flew. Place was busy but enough staff to gives that special.
What a fantastic experience! Loved every second. Staff were amazing and found the right balance between being attentive without being overburdening and too close. Felt really welcomed and special with everyone taking the effort to treat us as their only priority. The food is amazing and the taster menu is mind blowing, the flavours individually were familiar but put together they made something really special. Great atmosphere that felt private but also social and part of a busy restaurant without ever intruding on a quiet conversation. Amazing night!
Absolutely awesome food. The duck egg - with optional truffles - was a real highlight. Worth coming 300 miles for, even if we hadnt been here for the cricket!
Dining here was a stunning experience from start to finish. Uniquely characterful venue that has been lovingly converted (ask to see their photo bookand now sports an open kitchen and series of seating areas under the old brick arches, plenty of natural light from above, and a tranquil roof garden for drinks. Staff were incredibly friendly yet professional throughout. Alchemilla offer a few different sizes of tasting menu; we went for the full 10 plus cheese plus pairings, which took a pretty magical four hours or so to tackle. Every course was different, creative and deliciously memorable. Well worth it, and would go back again in a heartbeat.
Just got back from here and wanted to say that it was awesome! We turned up slightly early and the friendly, helpful staff showed us to the beautiful roof terrace for drinks, while we waited for our table. We were then taken to the main restaurant. Straight away, we could tell it was going to be a lovely night....The temperature, ambiance, and general atmosphere of the place was so relaxing. The serving staff were very knowledgeable, professional, and good humoured - most of all, the smells coming from the open kitchen were mouth-watering!Then the serving began, and we were not definitely not disappointed!I personally have never tasted food like that and I found every morsel a real treat! The standard of the food was incredible and every course was imaginative and delicious!I would describe the food in detail, but I doubt I could do it justice.Thank you so much to Head Chef and Owner, Alex Bond and your staff for such a great evening. We loved every minute!
Only a few days after reopening the standard of food and service was incredible. Front of house initial welcome was top notch and very welcoming. All of the dishes were created to surprise and delight and they succeeded. Staff were attentive and well organised. A meal here is a treat and one I would go back for again.
An absolute joy from start to finish, the chefs, waitresses, bar staff and sommelier are friendly, knowledgeable and professional but importantly have character and passion. The 10 courses with wine pairing was one of the most impressive meals Ive had and I wouldnt hesitate to return and recommend Alchemilla to anyone. Its expensive but considering the service, food and atmosphere its certainly justified.
Stunning food and oh, what an amazing experience! Ten course tasting menu paired with wine was just divine. A truly unforgettable evening! 10 out of 10!
What a great experience. We had the taster menu with wine selection just great, with my favourite being the deserts even though I dont have a sweet tooth. Just a great experience. If I can afford it I will be back! The staff are also great and very nice.
Nothing but excellent service. The staff were attentive and informed on the food, the wine delicious and the food itself exceptional. My first time in this calibre of restaurant and I was not disappointed. Opted that my table would try the 10 course meal (thought we would get tiny portions), by course 5 we were all reaching full bellies. Nice relaxed atmosphere, interesting and unpretentious venue. We were there 4 hrs and my friends were facinated by the moss wall. Starting to save for my next visit.
Had been waiting to make a trip to Alchemilla for so long and to be made aware of their Michelin Star only added fuel to the fire that was our eagerness to visit the restaurant. Spoiler - it did not disappoint!I dont think this may be the platform for me to go through every individual dish my girlfriend and I experienced (Ill let the photos speak for themselves). All I can tell any reader of this review is, if you decide to treat yourself to a meal at Alchemilla - you are in very safe hands.Gone are any pre-conceptions that "fine-dining" has to be an overly formal and pretentious. Our staff were attentive whilst not invasive, the wine expert was extremely knowledge and super passionate. It felt as if we were having friends serve us our food! The menu itself was an expert portfolio of how simply tasty and technically impressive food can actually be. Youve set the bar very high and we will find it very difficult not making an appearance at the restaurant a regular occurrence!Thank you for an amazing food experience.
Great place wish I found out about this place sooner! Its in what I believe is an old wine cellar converted into a restaurant. It has an open style kitchen so you can see where all the magic happens. The food is fantastic with great combos of flavours and attention to detail. Went with a vegetarian friend and she enjoyed it very much. Sometimes you get very generic vegetarian dishes but here they were well thought out and interesting. My highlight was the ice-cream dessert; chocolate, salted liquorice and beetroot. Dont usually like liquorice but this was fantastic and added texture as well. The beetroot sobert blew my mind, it was very complex with a savoury feeling but still clearly in dessert. Had a great evening here and I hope to bring my family to try it sometime!Update: second visit to Alchemilla, after they received their Michillin star. Their food is still excellent and the chef hasnt relaxed (which I know some do after recieving their star). I had the wine pairings with my food this time and it was a whole new dimension! Made already a great dinner, into an unforgettable experience. The wait staff was enthusiastic and friendly.
We went to Alchemilla not long after it opened and it was great. We went again a year later and it was better. On our third visit, and our first since it was awarded a Michelin star, it was absolutely phenomenal. So many great dishes it was impossible to pick a favourite. From the opening with crab and brown butter foam to the main of pigeon or lamb to the creme brulee with balsamic and beetroot sorbets, everything was just spot on.Service was fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly and our whole evening was a delight from start to finish. Alchemilla is fully deserving of all the accolades it gets and were lucky to have such a fantastic restaurant in Nottingham city centre.
**Update** to my review over a year ago, which was 5 stars also. It did get its star and I went back on 13 November and whilst I expected it to be truly amazing I didnt expect it to be even more memorable, but it was. There were flavour combinations that were totally unique to me. It was exciting, at times quirky, at times classic but at all times rammed with flavour. A one of a kind this place - such creativity and brilliance in that kitchen. I had the 10 course this time but it actually works out at 15 courses because of all the extras and it is worth every penny. And yes, I will be back again.
All round stunning, the setting is beautiful and unusual, the food was incredible, wine pairing is well worth having a go and the selection was delicious, we went for the 10 courses (don’t have photos of them alland left feeling very satisfied. The staff were great and the attention to detail impeccable, we were even given a free glass of wine for a delay in our main meat course which was less than 5 minutes.Honestly can’t recommend enough 😃
One of the two best fine-dining restaurants in Nottingham. The food is impeccable! The prices are so reasonable too.
Delicious food, excellent service. We had a great evening and will definitely be back. The 5-course menu was plenty of food!
A beautifully designed restaurant, astounding food, and a very generous tour of snacks throughout. Wow presentation, and some of the most exceptional flavours and textures weve ever tasted. We were left gobsmacked, muttering in disbelief after almost every course.Set themselves apart by showing as much care and investment in the inspired vegan / vegitarian menus as the omnivore one. There was no second-class element, all diets were equally included in the experience. We were also mightily impressed with the tone of the restaurant. Fine dining, but not to the point whereby you feel uptight. Down to earth vibe, welcoming and charming service.Final note: offering their own sourdough bread to accompany the food was genius. Adds complimentary flavour but also a satisfying, filling quality to the dishes.Overall, a truly special experience, and as good as dining out can be.
Wow! what an experience! The staff were friendly and took time to explain each dish. We went for the 7 course tasting menu without wine pairings. The food was exciting and different. A lot of earthy flavours. Plenty of snacks in between and delicious bread. One of favourite dishes was the potato with smoked eel (in photo). The beetroot sorbet is interesting, wouldnt be to everyones taste but was very different. The restaurant itself has a great vibe. Quite hidden on Derby Road. Only minor issue was that it started to get a bit cold in the restaurant. We were sitting next to the wall closest to the road (not sure if it was a seating location thing).Overall very satisfied. It was expensive but worth every penny.
Went with a voucher for the 10 course menu. Food was delicious and the staff very attentive. Interesting combinations of flavours and textures made for a wonderful experience.
Really well thought out menu. We had the 10 course with accompanying wines. I wouldnt do the 10 course again as it was just too much, especially with the extras you also have. The welcome is always pleasant and the table service attentive, engaging yet subtle. The open kitchen gives a welcome view of the comings and goings and gives a sense of atmosphere when you first walk in.
Delicious food with different tasting menu length options. The sommelier did a great job helping us choose a delicious wine to our taste and within our budget. Beautiful setting too, really liked the exposed old bricks and moss wall. Really comfy seats!
I had a meal with my friend back in November. Food was just ok. I had a high expectation as Alex bond had worked in restaurant Sat Bain and all the reviews I read on the internet. We had the 10 courses set and the dishes started off quite salty to my taste. The decorations are nicer in pictures than what I have seen. May try again next time to see if any differences. Most important thing is I had Nowhere to put my handbag 😂
Quite disappointed! Possibly because I read so many good things before coming to this place! The deco and atmosphere were decent but not too special. I really liked the salmon and the cabbage but the rest were pretty ordinary. Also the service was not good at all. We had to ask for clean cutlery and more water! No one checked wether we wanted cheese at any stage so my companion had to ask for it and the response was a little awkward! On the plus side, the dishes did look very pretty, however, a lot of them were served in Ramen bowls which required some extra effort to eat!
