Plaza Campo Santo de los Mártires, s/n, 14004 Córdoba, Spain, Pozoblanco
Mudéjar-style 1300s palace with terraced gardens, Roman mosaics & Gothic towers for panoramic views.
A lot of restoration work was taking place whilst we visited which really spoilt the experience. Either close the attraction or dont charge.
The fountains were being repaired so that took away much of the charm. The inside is rather dull and underwhelming.
Disappointing overrated site. The queue at the entrance was long and slow, the fountains were turned off, the pools were empty. Not worth the price of the ticket.
Beautiful garden with several types of plants and flowers. The fountains help cool down the place, especially in the scorching summer days. The palace is not as interesting and there is little labelling so either you look it up on the internet or ask for a guided tour, or youll feel a bit lost as to the history of this palace and garden. You can easily spend 2 hours here, but if youre not into gardens, youll probably spend far less time; itll depend on your interests.
Very nice place to visit, although Sevillas Alcázar is more beautiful. They are still discovering things, which I found amazing. You can see this in 1 hour.
Interesting place, I imagine it looks better when it’s not under construction.I am disappointed that the ticket information did not warn us upon paying full-price that the area would be looking like a construction site.
All the pools are under construction. Garden lacks maintenance. Very disappointed. They should close the site or have it for free.
The most overrated monument. DO NOT go there. Have a look at some real pictures from October this year.Nothing really in good condition, mostly rotten
Nice roman mosaics....but nothing else. Actually its not worth paying the entrance fee: the tower is closed, the gardens seems neglected and under intense "renovation" and, on top of that, part of the site is used for a horse exhibition.
Definitely not worth visiting. The palace is very poor and it takes 10 minutes to visit it inside (one room and one patio). The access to the tower had been closed 20 minutes before the indicated time without notice, so we couldn’t go there. The gardens are quite nice but - honestly - far from unforgettable. The guardians are very rude and not welcoming at all. We had to pay twice because we were late (and the place was 42% of its capacity… so no excuses at all for leaving us out of the place!). If you have little time (and, of course, if you have already been to the Mezquitaand haven’t seen the patios yet, do not hesitate and go there!
We happened to be there on a day when visits were free (there is usually a charge). The mosaics are fascinating, and well presented and explained. The gardens are the real stars though - utterly amazing.
Basically a (not so grand nor that well preservedhouse with a very big (but not very spectaculargarden.Cannot really understand why would anyone need such a big garden. May be garden is the best entertainment in those days. But then, how many people actually enjoyed the garden, and what about the commoners ?I ranked only two stars because not really much historical artefact or architecture to see, and for Euro5 admission, the garden could be better kept.
A fantastic historical place which combines the moorish and christian architecture. The garden and fountains that surround the palace are amazing
The gardens are amazing, & they were very unexpected.
The Alcázar of Córdoba covers a fairly large part of gardens, special corners, a special hammam, etc.Tickets can be purchased beyond the entrance road at a cost of 5 euros per person. The building is less impressive than the blessed gardens and fountains. It is worth visiting the place for an hour to several hours
A magnificent palace and castle located in Cordoba. It combines a variety of architectural influences, including Roman, Visigothic, and Arabian. Located in the center of Cordoba and easily accessible, it is a place not to be missed. There is not much inside the building. This is a place to be seen mostly for its garden. The garden is quite magnificent and beautiful. There are various plants and pools. When you come to Cordoba, you can stop by here if you have time.
We really enjoyed this. Wasnt what we expected (a fortress/palace, mostly inside). The inside areas are relatively small, but the gardens are stunning and extensive. Its also great value at €5, so definitely worth doing before visiting the Mezquita.
The gardens are beautiful, carefully kept and a real treat to visit. The palaces Roman mosaics are stunning but there is not much to see in the rest of the building which seems a little unloved. Im sure there was more to discover, but the audio guide accessed using a QR code was impossible to make work and when I asked staff about it I was told the system is not compatible with iPhones! For real?! This should really be fixed - hence the four star rating.
After reading a few reviews which seemed to say there wasnt much to see, I was hesitant of what to expect. But, I thought for the price it was definitely worth seeing. I think it helps to see on a warm (Hotsunny day, but it really is an oasis, if you take your time and ensure sit down in the gardens for a bit and watch the world go by. Agreed, in the building not a lot to see but has some great mosaics on show. For the price definitely worth a visit.
Loved this palace although not much to see in the palace itself but amazing gardens as well
You start the tour walking around the alcazar which has parts that date back to Roman occupation. After touring the rooms for a while you pop out into the garden area. Its not a huge space you can walk from end to end in 20 minutes but it is really beautiful. The pools reflection of trees makes for some amazing pictures.
I wasnt expecting much, but student prince was 2,5 euro so I figured why not. Absolutely worth a visit, the gardens are beautiful and the collection of Roman mosaics is impressive. My one complaint is that there is a QR code to access an audio tour, but no wi-fi offered. There are some explanatory plaques at some art pieces (in Spanishbut I would have liked to have the whole tour.
Nice place with some descent history but maybe not worth the walk that much compared to other site visits
Got here at 8.30 am. No queue…. Beautiful, exquisite, cool gardens a real treat on a cordoba summer day. Non Spanish speakers equipped with any decent translation tool on their mobiles should do fine. Enjoy!
Somewhat disappointing. Not too much in the Alcazar, the gardens where nice but rather small
Interesting place, and beautiful gardens.Well worth a visit especially on a hot day
The alcázar itself is nothing out of the ordinary - the mosaic room was just average. The gardens are lovely, however, and we spent the majority of our visit strolling through the trees and hedges, admiring the views and taking pictures of the fountains. Adult ticket price is $5/person ($2.5 for seniors). One of my favorites from our trip to Cordoba.
Amazing gardens - believe that they were used in Game of Thrones. The palace had some wonderful mosaics. Definitely worth a visit.
Interior buildings were nothing spectacular. The Alcazar of Sevilla is better in that aspect.Gardens are splendid. Spend about 10% of your time on the indoor buildings and the rest on the gardens.
Excellent place to visit when in Cordoba. The gardens are still beautiful. Plenty of oranges to eat! 😉
Absolutely not questioning the historical value of this place, however, we expected something more. The gardens are indeed beautiful, but the time in the historical buildings I can only describe as max. 10 minutes spent and the lack of English translations made it difficult to understand the events that took place there in the past.In addition, it was clearly stated that students enter for half price, but at the checkout I was informed that I must have a special international card to get this discount.Queue all day long for 30min-1h standing even with an electronic ticket.A simple comment at the end - one big disappointment.
Nice for the garden and is not so expensive aa other visit
Not as splendid as the Seville alcazar, it mainly fascinates for its historical relevance in the history of Muslim Spain, where Cordoba played an enormous role. The Alcazar itself was 4 tones larger than what you see today, which is what the Ferdinand and Isabella kept of it after making it the headquarters of the Spanish inquisition.
Don’t go if the wait is long. It is nice but nothing extraordinary. Not much to see in the castle. The gardens are more interesting. Cheap to go but not worth a wait of more than 30 minutes. No need to buy a guided tour. They should allow to buy tickets on line and not just on premises like now which creates long waiting lines. Terrible in 2022.
It was nice but an underwhelming experience. The indoors bit is largely rebuilt with a collection of some artefacts found elsewhere. The gardens were not in full bloom when we were there. However, the flowers that we did see were quite unimpressive and I would even classify some of them as weeds, many have grown outside the gardens between the garden curb and the alleys. Only the flowers around the main fountain were nicer. The cleaners were browsing their phones and listening to loud music in the gardens. The ticket buying experience was not as horrifying as expected, no need to prebook a slot anymore, but they only take cards and you cannot book online. The opening hours are also disappointing, not open every day and close mid-afternoon.
Underwhelming Alcazar, since it was closed on Monday we went on Tuesday before we left. We were a bit disappointed with what we got to see. The mosaics are nice but the rest is not very impressive. Gardens are nice though.
The place is really cool however they dont have tours and their audio system didnt work so we endes up trying to guess and imagine the history ourselves
Amazing well nurtured gardens. Absolutely worth a visit anytime of year. We look forward to our next visit!
This is a really nice place to visit on a day trip by train from Sevilla. The architecture is a blend of 1300s middle-eastern architecture with later Greco-Roman Christian themes. The original architects would be turning over in their graves if they knew the entire place was later taken over by Christian Monarchs who brought-in their own religious style. Its kind of like when you revisit the house you grew up in only to discover it is totally different than you remember. The weather was perfect on the day we came and by luck, we went up in the tower at sunset. I took beautiful photos.
Interior isnt much but the gardens are a true gem. Large functioning garden with phenomenal water works. Well worth the visit for the outdoor space
Very interesting place to visit in Cordoba. The building is great, with some very well conserved pieces (mainly some Roman mosaics), but the gardens are incredible. In my opinion, the gardens are even better than the ones at the Generalife in Granada.
The inside of the Alcázar is relatively small or at least limited due to COVID. There is a room adorned with several beautiful Roman mosaics from the excavations of the Plaza Corredera. The gardens are also quite beautiful. Worth the visit.
Had to queue for a while & fortunately our hotel got us tickets beforehand. Once in we were very impressed with the place, especially the gardens. If in Cordoba its well worth a visit but sort out your tickets before you turn up...
Loved this place. The Roman mosaics and especially the garden (kudos to the creative gardening team!are definitely worth a visit. I deducted a point for the worthless reservation website. Its a digital struggle to reserve tickets and afterwards you find yourself in a looong waiting queue that takes almost as much time as the visit itself 🙄
Palace with the most beautiful gardens. Take your time to enjoy the vast area and relax in the shade. Registration upfront is needed in order to enter.
Not as good as the ones of Sevilla or Granada but worth a visit for the very cheap price (4,50€). Be careful with the opening hours, during the summer it’s only until 15:00, you need to book it before for Covid.
The gardens here are absolutely stunning, filled with fountains and beautiful greenery. We went at the end of October and were impressed, so I can only imagine how amazing it is in the springtime! Lots of history here, and many shady spots to sit and contemplate the beauty.
The gardens were the highlight. At the moment, due to Covid, one has to book a timeslot to enter, and pay when you get there (card payments only). The QR code to access the scheduler is posted near the entrance to the museum (signboard in Spanish only!).Signs in the museum are in Spanish only but you can make out whats what anyhow.
Nice historical building with some ruins and gorgeous gardens. Booking in advance online was a must. The entrance fee was cheap (5€). Friendly and helpful staff.
Fascinating historical building and Free to enter. The mosaics and artefacts are splendid. The gardens are spectacular and well cared for. Really enjoyed our visit.
