Al-Maida Hot Food & Market - Pakistani restaurant in Oakland, United States
Donβt let the smaller restaurant setup in a grocery store deceive you. I have had the best Karahi Ghost (goat karahiand naan here. It was very delicious, just the right amount of spice oil and goat well cooked. Definitely worth eating here or pack it togo.
Good food and service. Loved the Turkish delight.
Great tasting food. Not to pricey.
I really appreciate nice behavior of workers and especially manager, beside this the Musjid is close to the Market
Staff are really nice and helpful people I ate Chicken tikka masala. It was really delicious. I really recommend it very well and the price is very reasonable Bon appetit.
Just NO !! Bad food, self posted reviews.
Forgot to take a picture before we eat , everything was delicious π€€ our first time here found it from google definitely we would come back specially for the Turkish delight
This place is great. I order from here regularly. Fantastic samosas, delicious tandoori chicken wraps, and if you like goat---this is your place. And the price cannot be beat.
well stocked, falafel wrap is sooo good.
UPDATE, FEB 7TH 2022:Still a killer, Al-Maida ("The Table Spread with Food"), is STILL rocking the best Halal in Oakland. Soo Clean, fresh and tasty, tis almost qualifies as diet food, but its too yummy to be that. Its just really healthy. The Hit: Chicken Tikka Combo plate, with rice or Naan (Get the garlic Naan if you like more flava)This place is a hidden gem in North Oakland serving some of the best fresh halal food in the East Bay, in a relaxed setting, that a lot of people just pass by during their commute.I ordered a seekh kabab, with garlic naan, aloo tikki, and a salad that comes with the kebab.I watched them make the Naan right in front of me, and the food was tasty fresh and delicious, and really on the clean side of eating, lightly spiced and fresh with not too much salt or oil. This place is fantastic and I highly recommend it!
This is my favorite local Indian Pakistani food, no kidding! Love this place so much I ordered a bunch of food for our extended family for Christmas Eve. The chicken tikka masala has tandoori chicken and the sauce is like crack. So good, and reasonable prices, too! I always call ahead and pick up so no waiting, and no fees charged to them for ordering via some app. Family owned, nice people. Just stop by, you wonβt regret it.
Drive past this place all the time, decided to stop in and check it out. Very good selection of non-alcoholic beverages, decided to try the food. Got some Samosas for the road trip home, very good. Guy behind me got the Lamb Biryani smelled good, gonna have to check that out next time.
When you see a tiny Pakistani kitchen in the back of a convenience store, you know its going to be good. The definition of a hidden gem.
I just came in for a little grocery or two, and I love the smell of the Indian food. I think the staff was helping a customer with a problem order but he was very smiley the whole time and the customer seems very satisfied after waiting for 5 minutes. Its small and quaint and the back aisle is a bit too narrow for fire safety.
Average food. Told me it would take half an hour, so I sat down at the table in front of them. After 45 minutes they still hadnt let me know my food was ready, so I went up to the counter to ask how much more time it would take. The cashier pulled out my food, barely still warm. Would they have ever let me know my food was ready? At this point Im tempted to just give it to my dog
I ate here twice in the last week. Im trying to eat less meat and there are enough options to make it easy especially with the paneer masala (top notch). The other options I like were the spicy eggplant dish along with the falafel wrap. If you like meat, I have never gone wrong with any of the goat or lamb dishes. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the amount of food you get.
So glad I checked this place out. DELICIOUS food and great prices. I impulse bought a pint of rose cream ice cream while in the store.. and that was also to die for.
This place is a gem! Delicious falafel, mango lassi, and many vegetarian options. They also have a great selection of fresh vegetables, pantry basics, and a wide selection south Asian groceries.
Well the food was well worth the wait. And the weight i gained stuffing my face w beef shawarma drizzled w the cherti suace π π€π½π€π½π€π½ π΅π° bra these guys know what theyre doing. You can always trust a hole-in-the-wall shop.
The meat here is really good and itβs so affordable because of the huge portion sizes (we had the chicken biryani). Pro tip - get a mango pickle from the store and then eat it with the biryani
This place is very good! After trying many different Indian/Pakistani places in the Oakland/Berkeley area Iβve happily settled on Al-Maida. Iβve been here probably at least two dozen time in the past six months and itβs always delicious and consistent. Love the samosas, the tika masala, biryani, and naan. The lamb seekh kebab is also excellent, but lately it hasnβt been totally consistent.
Finally went here and picked up lunch. We tried fish curry, lamb wrap, falafel wrap, and veggie pakoras. We liked them all. We also discovered that for two of us, we could get one wrap and share or plan on having the other half for later. Fish curry very good, spicy and somewhat too hot for us. The veggie pakoras were onion and pepper, very good. All came with the green sauce. If I had been thinking I would have gotten some raita too. Also, they offering chicken wings and philly cheesesteak sandwiches ( and other sandwiches). Since one of our family has trouble with Indian spices this is wonderful. It used to be just Lois the Pie Queen, then the tamale place at Market and Adeline, now Pakistani here. Sure a lot better than trying to pick up anything in Temescal since the "improvement" to Telegraph.
Best food! Great taste! Reasonable price, fresh and healthy. I always love to eat here! The customer service is assume! Worth to try!!
Amazing food!!! The fluffiest pita, juiciest meat and delicious mango lassi. The staff there is always so friendly and Ive been to this place several times and their food is always top notch. The best Pakistani food in Oakland at very reasonable prices. You dont want to miss this spot.
The menu has a different price and when you get to the store they charge you a higher price . The fish pakora $5.99 but the charged me $6.99 lamb biryani $9.99 but was charged $10.99 same for the goat karahi menu says $10.99 I was charged $ 11.99.I even called and spoke to the store worker and he confirmed the prices on the menu are right but when he handed the phone to the owner she told me I was charged the right amount and she will make the price changes on the menu. Double check if your on a food budget other Than that the food is great hot & fresh.
The hot Indian food is so yummy. We get it for dinner all the time and the sandwiches are delish too. These owners really work hard and make great food.
Great food and people. Biryani is delicious and cheap.
Friendliest customer service, great food and polite son! Will come back anytime I pass through
Came here to try the chicken Tikka masala. The food was good, but the portion size was pretty small. The prices were reasonable and service was friendly. Also note that their naan is less like Indian naan and more like a mixture of Afghan naan.
Small but Great place if you are looking for Pakistani/Indian food. Tandoori chicken and tikka is delicious. Will recommend to friends and family.
Great food, great people who put a smile on my face everytime we come in. Looks like a hole in the wall, but they have the BEST falafel in Oakland hands down.. this is my new standard for falafel! Although honestly, everything here is good.
Amazing food at very good prices cooked to order by a friendly staff. Plus Indian spices and food in a unique corner grocery store. Looks like a hole in the wall on the inside but dont let that fool you. Best Pakastani / Indian food you will find in this price range. Period.
Best veggie falafel wrap Ive had in Oakland, prices are good and service is super friendly, the menu has alot of options and they have indoor/outdoor seating available. Its also a pretty cool market where u can pick up groceries too. Definitely coming back.
We enjoyed the good food, reasonable prices, and honest atmosphere of this small place: nothing fake, just the sights, sounds, and smells of food being made and sold. We especially liked the vegetable pakoras, chicken tikka masala, and cheese naan.
Oh, this was the perfect meal after a long day out. Sadly we were just visiting the area, but if we return to Oakland we will definitely be back here. Just delicious, so very fresh, and staff were just lovely.
Couldnt be more impressed with this place. You wouldnt guess it from the outside but the food is fresh and delicious. The prices are very reasonable as well, and everyone inside is friendly. We got the chicken and falafel wraps and both were made with freshly cooked bread!
The wraps were amazing. The fish and rice with chutney was delicious. Definitely my go-to take out spot in North Oakland.
I know this store on market Street in North Oakland on Adeline St and Market street when my childrens were little son 5yrs & daughter 12 yrs and my mother was good friends with the owner Michael and Sons from September 1984 to1989 before the store got sold in 1919 to Michael & Sons family Cousin ,thank u for staying in the neighborhood plus they have good different food.
Bombbb veggie falafel wrap, will return π
Nice people and good food. The market is a little lacking due to the small size.
I ordered their veggie falafel wrap. Very tasty, and the bread its wrapped in is great. However, I would recommend you call 30-minutes ahead and come pick up your food when its ready, or you may be waiting a while.
What an amazing find in a unassuming location. Located inside a small super market, some tables to sit. We have now ordered from here 4 times, each time was excellent. Including a large order for our super bowl party. The wraps are fantastic if eating right away, otherwise I prefer the plates. The curries are also great. Naan and samosa are great as well. Totally love the family run vibe.
the food here is seriously delicious and affordable. the quality of the food cannot be overstated.service was excellent.note: if you eat inside on a cold day, be sure to bundle up! it can get a bit chilly
I was so glad to find this place after moving to the neighborhood a few months ago. The family that owns this place is so friendly and hospitable, always doing their best to please the customer. And the food is SOOO tasty, not to mention very affordable! I love their chicken tikka masala and come here 1-2 times a week.
Small neighborhood market serving generous portions of Pakistani food for a great price. This is alongside a small deli counter and grocery selection. This family operated business is not quick, but the food is cooked to order. Call ahead if you dont want to wait.
Their chicken biryani and beef kababs are amazing. Possibly the best in the Bay Area.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I just Moved the the area and was craving Indian food, although technically a pakistani place. This place is amazing. And the price is right!!! Iβll be coming here very often from now on!
Lovely family serving delicious Indian food. We got both biryanis and will be returning to try more. Halal meat and deep rich flavor in the food. Very balanced and warming. So glad I found Al Maida!
Very friendly owner, great food, excellent prices. Looking forward to trying everything on the menu.
A Totally new & home π‘ food π₯ in town.I placed an order for chicken π karhi with 2 tandoori nans and found the dish very delicious π. Thanks
