Al Fresco Rooftop Wine Bar - Restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Overpriced bad drinks - view is nice - staff is nice
This is actually the craziest one star ever. I ordered a $36 charcuterie board that was supposed to have jamón serrano and they brought me a board with the cheapest Walmart salami. As I was told by the chef she didnt have a managers approval to open another pata de jamón.. We said we didnt want it at that price with a missing key expensive ingredient. After 5 minutes a server brought the same board to a table right next to us saying in was a comped meal for them. I guess their plan was make us watch them eat it for free while we were ghosted by the servers whom never brought us a menu to order anything else.
American here. First meal in PR, and I am so happy it was. Amazing food. This spot feels like a locals hideaway - which is what I love most about it. The ceviche is possibly the best I’ve ever had, so fresh and delicious. Same goes for the fish tacos! I love this place and will be coming back, hopefully soon.
Amazing drinks best mojitos I’ve had and let’s not forget Ray who was always making sure we are good and have what we need! Must check this place out…make sure Ray is here too !
Ray was phenomenal! The best time we had in PR!
This was our first day in Puerto Rico and we had the best experience, the service was amazing and the mojitos were even better, we would absolutely recommend this spot to anybody around and are more than happy to come back anytime
My girlfriend and I stopped in for a drink and appetizer. Rei, our bartender, was so kind and made excellent drinks! The shrimp cocktail was so fresh and delicious and the atmosphere was cozy and intimate. Definitely recommend!
Restaurant at the top of a three story building, with tables overlooking the street. Great atmosphere with classic local music playing, like salsa, merengue and bachata. Drinks were made by Reinaldo, really friendly bartender! Needs a repeat visit to try some more tasty food.
Ray was amazing! He was our server and bar tender and took such good care of us. He told us about the special drinks on the menu. The rooftop atmosphere was unbeatable and would definitely recommend!!!!!!!
Ray is our new best friend! Amazing drinks and food!
We tried the starfruit piña colada, a fun and local twist on the classic! Our bartender Ray was very amiable, and the ambience is lovely.
Great atmosphere, service, and food! Would highly recommend coming here! Will definitely come back
Great little spot for a rooftop stop. Friendly staff. Tasty cocktails. Haven’t tried the tapas but will be back. Ocean breeze and unique views of Old San Juan.
Went to the Piña Colada Festival and the chocolate one was the best one I tired. Amazing
Great place check them out if you are in Puerto RicoThe star fruit Pina Colada’s are amazing!
It’s great vibe ! I think the price are little high but it is Okay, we are in Old San Juan !enjoy the roof, great refreshing air ! Good experience! Something new , Boricua food ! Frituras y Pasteles !
Horrible service. The bartenders see you at the entrance, tell you to wait a second but never come. Extremely rude and a waste of time. Stay away, it just puts you in a bad mood for the night.
This place seems like it should be a more upscale place and especially with the prices you would think so. We stopped for appetizers and drinks and it was expensive prices for cheap quality. We got $10 sweet potato fries that were served in a fast food basket and tasted like arbys fries, and the drunken mushrooms were $16 and was basically a couple mushrooms in soup. Which did not at all match the pictures online. Drinks were expensive and mediocre.
A group of 4 of us dined the other night here. We paid $167.00 before tip. I’m comfortable with paying a bill however the prices didn’t add up to what you we ordered. We had a few apps and a drink each. We tried to explain to our servers but they didn’t want to hear it. Horrible experience. It appears they make up prices as they felt for the cocktails. Its not appreciated to lie and take advantage of out of town customers. Don’t recommend. Would rather go to a authentic PR restaurant.
Zero stars! Terrible service to the point of no service. Waiter and bartender both made eye contact multiple times as we waited in the doorway at the entrance. They acknowledged everyone already that had been seated in the waiting area and kept walking right by us. When I finally gave up and approached wait staff they were extremely smug and rude. All I asked is that you acknowledged us instead of ignoring us. We could of not wasted time by being told either it was worth waiting or not. Thanks for the terrible experience.
Amazing rum drinks and the mule was so good. Waiter was very friendly. Highly recommend.
The atmosphere, service, food and cocktails were all fantastic. Our waiter was accommodating and found us better seating as the option opened up. The roof top is great of course, but I like the rustic feel inside too. Definitely a spot Tobit if you’re in this area.
Been there a couple of times. Cant say that I liked the drinks. Very sparse menu. Awesome breezy rooftop area.
This place good for tapas. Please have yourself a coco mojito , too delicious . Everything was pretty good and the service was great . Awesome small spot .
The word for this place is “cool.” It’s on the third and top floor of an ancient Old San Juan corner building with mostly outdoor seating and a little bit of indoor seating. We spotted it just walking down the street and thought it looked nice. It took a second to find the entrance to a dark stairway with metal stairs. We got there not long before close and they warned us at the door there was no outdoor space and they were out of several menu items. They set us up inside with a couple glasses of wine and then moved us outside as soon as space opened. The door man and bartender were so helpful. We had a charcuterie board that was very tasty and we stuck to a couple affordable red wines that were good. The ambiance on the rooftop was really great. It was pretty crowded - the people next to you are very close - but felt friendly and fun. There was a cool breeze and we could look down on the street while we sipped out drinks. Just cool vibes all around.
A place with a lot of potential but with areas of improvement. My margarita was a very good tequila on the rocks. Having said that, I thought my partners mojito was pretty decent. One thing I thought was odd: Their entryway was chained when we were leaving (2-3 hours before their Google Maps closing timeand no one mentioned it or try to open it for us. Oh well, we originally intended to go to Mezzanine, but they were closed even though their Google Maps said they would be open 🤷🏻♂️.
This place is amazing and my husband and I had a fantastic experience here. The server was attentive and helped lead us through the menu. Based on their recommendations we had the tostanos, Moscow mule, and a pina colada. The pina colada was amazing and after doing a bar crawl was the best one. The rooftop view at night was romantic and chill. Would go there again if we were staying in Old San Juan longer!
Chill vibes. Very friendly service. They added their unique spin to the cocktails which was nice.
Ooof. This is going to be a rough one.The good:- this is one of the few rooftop establishments in Old San Juan, albeit there isnt much of a view. The bad:- there were only 3 or 4 menu items available. What did come up looked very disappointing. Hummus and peppers? Two small peppers slides in half with hummus smeared on it.- bugs. Everywhere.- while there is an extensive drink menu, many of the items were not available. I settled on a glass of wine which arrived 15 minutes later in a dirty glass.Hard pass.
100% the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had and that includes Friendlys in Ithaca, NY. Two stars are for the outdoors but really so you dont just skip over this as some annoyed customer.Ok, so first we went to order and the waiter eliminated 2/3 of the tapas menu because they didn’t have the ingredients. Ok fine. We order the “peppers stuffed with hummus”. Second, once it finally arrived, it was literally TWO peppers halves with some grocery store hummus smeared on top. Third, the drinks were meh at best. If you order here, stick to something bottled or canned so you know what you’re getting ahead of time.Or just COMPLETELY AVOID.
My husband and I came under the impression that we could order food and drinks. The server didn’t greet us upon our arrival. We had to ask if we needed to find our own seating BEFORE he assisted us. Then, he took our drink order without letting us know the kitchen was closed. He snatched our menu from the table and responded in Spanish when we asked for it back. A few moments later, we tried to order food, and he told us the kitchen was closed IN ENGLISH. The service here was disappointing as hell and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
Horrible service and drinks. Apparently the prices on the menu are not the final price. The server told us that the owners never adjust the prices according to their system. The server had 0 initiative to fix the problem and cursed several times while serving us.
A beautiful rooftop experience and Old San Juan. This is your first time or youre returning, this is a place you want to visit. The staff is great! Particularly Luis. Open air makes people more social!
Not worth it. The bartender wasn’t nice and welcoming, but rather he looked like he wanted us out ASAP. the drinks are average and overpriced. No bueno.
Service is absolutely terrible. I expected European-slow, but our waitress was absolutely incompetent. She made up a random happy hour deal, and didn’t know the (smallwine menu. It took us over two hours to get a charcuterie board. We also asked to get seated outside, but another table got moved outside before we did even though they did not have reservations. The rooftop has an okay view, largely of other rooftops and the city streets. *Not of the ocean/coast!*
Super great drinks. They were amazing. However, service was abysmally slow (15 min + to get just drinks). Know what youre in for here.
Ordered the charcuterie board & the amount of cheese in it was a joke. Additionally, the server was not wearing a face mask, his hands were dirty, and he touched all of the cutlery that was provided to us. Drinks were good & so was the ambience.
Relax atmosphere inside or outside. Amazing food.Nice wine selection. Ian our server was super nice.
We heard good things about the Mezzanine which is awesome by the way. Al Fresco is one floor up. We thought they were the same restaurant, just different levels. Boy were we wrong. Overpriced Charcuterie that just wasn’t good. Could have bought way better at the Supermax grocery store in the plaza. Cold service too. We couldn’t wait to leave. The rooftop is ok. No real views or anything like that. Find the Mezzanine & Go there. Up the stairs. Stop on the 2nd floor. Don’t go to Al Fresco.
I ordered a glass of wine half an hour ago and I’m still waiting for it. One extra star for the white macaws on a neighboring rooftop. Will update if drink arrives.
I think the positive reviews are paid for. Dont waste your time here. Terrible service, terrible food, over priced, mediocre drinks. Its a wine bar and they had a poor selection. Then the staff didnt even know about the wine.. That was the second best part of my experience. The first best was location.
This place could be so great, but their service was terrible for everyone, so much that people left. It was nice being on the rooftop. The manager said she cant find staff. We heard people say the food was good. If not for being on the roof, it wouldnt have been worth waiting about 45 min for a sangria. Second one we just walked up to the bar
Frituras came out hot and tasty. Ordered the small and it was than enough for two people. Drinks were good and even gave us the extra in a small cup. Would come back.
We went in for a drink. The atmosphere was nice, but the drinks were really bad and really expensive. We had a moscow mule and an old fashioned. The moscow mule was really weak and I think they did 1oz burbon and 1oz simple syrup for the old fashioned. After adding a second shot of burbon it was still incredibly sweet. The total came out to like $44 after taxes. For that price you gotta get the drinks right. Def wouldnt go back.
An average experience for a superb location! My stuffed chicken was dry..fish tacos were good..Appetizer was bland......cocktails decent..lil pricey as well. I didnt feel like they were glad to have our patronage...No mistreatment....nor issues at all.I had a high expectation that was not met.Just my experience may be different for you if you choose to patronize the establishment.
The worst experience. Average drinks, food that never arrived. And there was a lot missing. Some of us ordered 3 things and only received my received one of the 3. We were starving. This business is not manged like a serious business. Chaotic and average food and drinks. ( Those they arrived . We left hungry and really dissatisfied. If you’re after average, this is your place. Great location. A pity it’s a clunky mess all round when it comes to the running of it. The staff were calm amongst the chaotic mess our night turned into. Don’t waste your $$
I really enjoyed this place. I found it on accident. The rooftop is a great atmosphere. They have a good drink and food selection. Service was polite.
Bartender keeps smelling the bottles and the shakers but he’s handsome so I’ll excuse his fetish. Very historical and we’re experiencing a cool breeze on the two person patio seating. Having a grand time people watching!!
If I could give this place more stars I would. The bilingual server was very attentive, helped me navigate the menu, made me amazing drinks, kept me stocked on water (which I go through SO quick), and made sure I was ok to leave alone (because Id had several drinks before bringing me the check. The rooftop made it even better, this was such a great experience.
Nice cozy place. Excellent for a romantic outing to drink wine and eat tapas. Reasonable prices. The view is not that great even though its in the rooftop of a Old San Juan building.
