بالرغم من عراقة الشام؛ فإن ما تركته لنا السنون من قصور دمشقية لا يتناسب مع ما ذكر في كتب التراث عنها، فلم يتبق مما بني من قصور بني أمية إلا ما كان خارج أسوارها. تحدث ابن عساكر في تاريخه عن دار الإمارة، ودار هشام، ودار عمر بن عبد العزيز، كما تحدث البحتري عن قصر أنشأه المتوكل العباسي بين داريا والمزة، وبنى خمارويه قصراً في الربوة، ولكن لا أثر لجميع تلك الدور الآن.من هنا يمتاز قصر العظم بأنه أقدم الدور الأثرية الدمشقية الباقية، التي تفلتت من يد العبث. كان أسعد باشا العظم (1701-1757قد بنى قصرين، أحدهما في دمشق 1747، والثاني في حماة 1750 (يشغله اليوم متحف حماة)، إضافة إلى العديد من الأبنيه الأخرى.

Great place to visit. Interesting displays with informations in Arabic and English. Unfortunately a bit dark because of lack of electricity but very friendly and informative guardians

قصر العظم هو قصر شُيد في القرن الثامن عشر الميلادي، ويقع في النهاية الشمالية لسوق البزورية بدمشق القديمة، سوريا، وعلى شماله يقع الجامع الأموي الكبير، وتبلغ مساحته الاجمالية 6400 متر مربع، وهو من بناء والي دمشق الوزير أسعد العظم عام 1749م، ويعد القصر نموذجاً للفن المعماري الإسلامي المتطور، فتخطيطه ونمط بنائه وزخارفة في الحجر والرخام والخشب والمعدن تمثل صورة عن مباني دمشق في العهد العثماني. ويشير بعض المؤرخين إلى أن هنالك جناح في القصر يرجع تاريخه لعهود سابقة قبل أن يبني أسعد القصر الحالي، ويقع هذا الجناح القديم في الزاوية الجنوبية الشرقية من القصر. وللقصر بوابة ضخمة وضمنها باب صغير يسمى بباب خوخة. تم ترميم قصر العظم في عام 1954م ليصبح من أجمل وأروع القصور ونماذج العمارة الدمشقية، وتحول إلى متحف للتقاليد الشعبية، ورمم القصر بجميع أقسامه الداخلية والخارجية وقاعاته وتم تجهيز قاعات عديدة تعرض الكثير من العادات والتقاليد وتمثل الفلكلور السوري. يعد من أحد أهم معالم دمشق القديمة في سوريا ومن أروع وأجمل المباني الإسلامية. كما أنه يعد نموذجًا للبناء الشامي - الدمشقي القديم بحجارته الملونة وأقسامه وقاعاته وحدائقه الداخلية ونوافير الماء وقاعاته الدمشقية المميزة الرائعة وأقسامه العديدة، وهو من أهم مقاصد السياح في مدينة دمشق القديمة وقد اختير كواحد من أجمل الأبنية الإسلامية.

كانت تجربة اكتر من رائعة الجلوس في باحة القصر مريح نفسياً والتعرف على المكان رائع وحماسي وعلى الجميع زيارة المكان والتعرف عليه وهذه بعض الصور التي التقطتها عند زيارتي للمكان 😍🤎

Al Azem palace nice historical heritage site.

It is a model of the old heritage Damascene house.It was built by Asaad Pasha Al-Azm and it was his residence and the center of his work in the rule of the city of Damascus during the era of the Ottoman Empire.Each room contains a museum of wax statues representing the ancient heritage life in Syria.It also contains original antiques.Each of them contains an explanation in Arabic and English.I advise you to visit it when you arrive in Damascus.

In 1918 Damascus

One of the most beautiful palaces in the Middle East. Al Azm Palace is located in the heart of Old Damascus a few steps from the Umayyad Mosque. In 1749 Asad Pasha al-Azm, governor of Damascus, had a residence built for the Ottoman sultan, a textbook example of a noble Damasceen mansion (or rather a palace). The buildings are built in the typical Damasceen layered style, in which limestone, sandstone, basalt and marble, all in different colors, alternate. The palace is elaborately decorated and decorated. It remained the family residence until 1920, when the French bought it and established the French Institute there. After independence, the palace was taken over by the Syrian state and has housed the Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions since 1954. Next to the Umayyad Mosque, this is one of the buildings that are definitely worth a visit in Damascus.

Old big house ,with age of some hundred years , it was owned by influenced person at time of othman empire , who was know as from genuine damascene family# Alazm ..It is located in the old city of damascus , few meters away from Famous Big Umayyad Mosque ..It is open to public from morning till afternoon with fees , it differs if syrian nationality or tourist .. but not much any wayLovely interrior and typical damascene old style of houses ..Trees , plants , roses , fountainsIt is not royal style , but nice typical historical houseRecommend to watch when coming to the area ..

Nice archeologicsl place . Missing facilities as other touristic and historical places in great damascus . Sleepy ministry of tourism who cant manage such monuments in the old city .

Interesting place to see, rich of history and full of culture. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they are willing to explain and talk about the place in a passionate way.However, the place needs to be cleaned and dusted. The fountains must be filled with water in order to show the beauty.

If you are in Old Damascus You have to visit it.It was the habitate of Damascus governor during the Othman period and it represents the Damascene great architecture pretty well

A great and mighty palace of the Ottoman Turks. Very very impressive. All the rooms are very well labelled in English. Good for at least a few hours. You will learn a lot of history after visiting this palace.

Azm Palace is a palace in Damascus, which was originally built in 1750 as a residence for the Ottoman governor of Damascus Asad Pasha al-Azm. The palace now houses the Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions.The architecture is an excellent example of Damascene traditional houses. The structure itself consists of several buildings and two wings: the harem and the salamlik. The harem is the family wing, which was a private space for the residents (originally, the Azm family). This wing includes the kitchen, servant quarters, and the baths, which are a replica of the public baths in the city but on a smaller scale. The salamlik is the guest wing, and it comprises the formal halls, reception areas and large courtyards with traditional cascading fountains.In 1925, the Azm palace was heavily damaged by French artillery during the Syrian revolution. It has since been restored and became a museum of arts and folk traditions. It received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1983.
