Akureyri Fish & Chips - Restaurant in Akureyri, Iceland
The restaurant is unfortunately closed, but you can still order fish and chips at the food truck, and its worth it, dont hesitate if you are looking for fresh fish and good fries 👍
The fish was very oily, the chips saus was good but it had a weird smell.
Maybe I missed it on the listing or something but the google overview page shows a dine in restaurant with tables inside a regular storefront and a large menu, what we found at the address was a food truck in a parking lot with two items on the menu. It was a pretty cold day and sitting outside wasn’t a great option so it would have been nice to know. A little misleading and should probably be updated
The fish and chips here are incredible! The fish are so fresh and the batter is light and crisp. The sauce on the fries is delicious as well! Highly recommend!
Not sure about these other reviews but from what I have experienced the fish and chips are very good. The flavour is unreal and you can tell that the fish is super fresh. As I have had fish and chips all over the world. This is top 5 for sure. Would recommend getting some early in the morning.
The best Fish and chips we had during our 15day stay in Iceland ! The Fish is excellent, portion are generous and the toppings on the fries are delicious ! Everything served with a smile ! Watch out for the red food truck on the parking and not a restaurant :)
Not a pub anymore, merely a canteen. Very poor fish, nice chips :)
Everything tasted great. Only reason for 4 stars is the breading was very heavy and it was too greasy
The waitress asked what we wanted to eat but at the same time spoke with her colleague, about a group of other guests... When we got the food, half was missing. While waiting for a portion of fish and chips for about 20 minutes, we had to eat one by one, but the worst part was the arrogance of the staff. The rest was pretty okay, not really good but okay.
Simple menu. Cod only, meaning that the fish is local and fresh. Service is fast and friendly. Some people have complained about paying for sauce. That is a standard practice in Iceland. We tried the dill sauce, jalapeño garlic, and cocktail sauce. All were clearly made fresh. We will surely be back. Takk fyrir okkur!
Pickles & hash brown served with traditional breaded cod? Interesting! Fish & chips pretty good, my husband probably finished 1/4 of the pink salt 🙊 they’re quite generous with the fries. Price wise quite reasonable.
Amazing fish and chips!! My girlfriend had the chicken burger however and it was tasteless, hence the 4 stars
Got back into town late one night. This place was great. We were starving, they are quick with the orders, and the staff was friendly. We got one order of the fish and chips and a chicken salad, because it comes with a mango jalapeño dressing. The fish was crispy and not too oily. The salad was fresh, chicken was good, and the mango jalapeño dressing was my favorite. There’s also a good happy hour here, but I don’t know the times.
Decent fish and chips shop with a good range of decently priced food options and drinks. Thought paying for a side of sauce was a bit stiff, what is fish without tarter sauce?!
The fish is really fresh. It is enough for 2 people just 1 fnc and fresh salad. There are 3 draft beers, it is good too.
Fresh fish everyday at this restaurant. We had the Artic Char fish special... it was delicious! The fries were amazing too!
Very tasty fish and chips. The price was arround 15 euro for each which for Iceland is quite cheap, so if you are looking for something quick and easy to eat I would recommend it, just bare in mind that it is a self service restaurant.
This is the place mostly for tourists, it’s one of their first destinations. As far as I know. 😊 Very popular for lunch and dinner with good prices. Friendly service with creative dining décor combined with some rustic furniture, historical books and photography rounds this place a must go. About the food.. well.. it is served promptly, it is fresh and delicious. I ate there dozens of times and I can recommend you couple of dishes: first is the chicken salad – fresh with lots of salad and meat and altough they put crunched Doritios chips (dunno whyit’s still very tasty (you can ask without it of course); second – salmon salad – WOW, PLENTY of salmon; third – chickenburger with fries - tasty with good sauce; fourth and the last – Plokfiskar, a fish stew.. try that and you will not regret it. Regarding fish n chips dish, the portion is big enough and it is very good but breading is a bit thick and tooo greasy, too much for me. If you would like to experiment a bit try fermented shark. You will get 6 small cubes with small shot of vodka.. from my own experience it’s not that bad; one time I took it without vodka while on second time with vodka it was a bit distasteful. Overall, I recommend this place. The only reason why I gave 4* is just because a lot of dishes are too greasy and I’m not sure but it looks like they are using same oil for most of stuff. On one picture you can see salmon salad and on another it’s fermented shark. Enjoy your meal!
It is a small and cosy restaurant with great fish and chips. Highly recommend.
Nice, friendly atmosphere, clean and pleasant decor. The food was fresh and nicely presented. Great place! We will return with pleasure.
This was easily the best fish and chips of my life. We also ordered the daily special, which was a fish stew with potatoes and red rye bread, and that was maybe our favorite, not because it was better, but because we enjoy eating local specialities, and that seemed like a home recipe.
The portion of fish was generous and seemed fresh and well cooked. However, I was disappointed by the chips and sides. The chips werent very crispy or flavorful, and the coleslaw had an unusually sweet flavor. I tried the bernaise sauce, but it didnt pair as well with the fish as I had hoped. Not a bad meal, just not especially exciting.
So good! I try fish and chips everywhere I go and these fish and chips were great. More kudos to the fish than the chips, but the chips were good. What made it even better...the price. If you’ve been in Iceland long, you know how expensive the food is then. This was some of the best prices I’ve seen, and the food and drinks were great.
Delicious Fish and chips! Price was totally fine.
One of the best fish and chip I have eat on iceland. the breading is very fine and the fish melts in the mouth
Fish and chips was delicious. The lads behind the counter were a good laugh too.
Big portions for asian people, the salad and everything is like fish and chips commonly.
So delicious we had to eat here twice! Fun restaurant. We even tried the viking snack of dried fish with butter.
Very delicious and wonderfully friendly staff. We were recommended to try the traditional Icelandic dish Plokkfiskur and was outstanding! Great place to warm up and have a delicious meal!
Parking is free right accross the shop. Get a parking coupon from be bank just few shop away from fish and chip to entitle for free parking. We order akuryeri fish apecial, 2 big pieces of fish come with 2 choice of source and chips. Jalapeno garlic was very nice. Fish soup was delicious tooo, lobster base with salmon, prawn and cod. Slurppppppp.
Absolutely top notch restaurant with such tasty fish! Food prices are typical Icelandic prices.
I would give this restaurant 4.5 stars. The price of food was decent compared to other restaurants. The fish was excellent, but I would have preferred if the batter was slightly less oily and if the chips were crisper. I also tried their traditional dish — fish stew. My friend and sister were not fans, but I found it enjoyable. I did not like the coleslaw or the side dressing. It had a strange taste that did not appeal to me. The staff were pleasant and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant if you are staying in Akureyri and looking for something within a reasonable budget.
Good price, big portion. Too greasy for my taste but its something one have to expect from fish and chips in general. The offered dips were very interesting, chips were amazing and the fish...just perfect. Its obviously very popular place and I can see why.
We loved our meal here. We got the regular fish and chips and the Doritos version. Both were so delicious. I would eat either one again. The fries were really good and the salad was simple but tasty. The coleslaw was sweet which was different but still enjoyable. The food was ready very quickly and the workers were very kind. Highly recommend for a fast, tasty and inexpensive (for Icelandmeal!
We didnt know this city on Sunday, most restaurants wont open for business. So this store saved us with Fresh and delicious Fish and food, cozy and comfortable.
Oh my the fish portion is HUGE! So much you cant even see the fries that are in the bowl. Its cheaper to order the platter which comes with coleslaw and a side sauce - I had the bernaise and it was delicious. Apparently it was Happy Hour during our visit between 3-5 PM where the beers were 2 for 1. But they charged us full price. After asking the cashier about it he acknowledged the error and refunded us the difference.I recommend this restaurant. Great portions, decent prices and nice relaxed atmosphere.
Fish was absolutely delicious but the service model is not clear. A line at the door? Make sure you dont wait for a table to open up, go ahead and order first. And dont let people cut in front of you when you were clearly waiting in line in what you thought was a line. Confused? Me too, just order ahead and eat your delicious fish at a park.
Ohhhhh, fish-and-chips are simply perfect. Fish soup is pretty good. Noticed that locals were putting this huge piece of fish and fries out of the bowl and into the plate and eat them with fork and knife (not finger food as back at home)
This is a modern, nicely decorated place at the waterfront. There is a big seafood menu and a small bar. Very attentive personnel and quite fast service. A big variety of meal options, the high quality of the food as well as the large portion size. Fish seems to be very fresh, delicious! Id recommend to try flSh and chips, and one of the local beers...Very very very good thanks for your
Very nice atmosphere and well decorated. Staff was nice and friendly and the fish and chips tasted great! Comes in a basket with the fries and the fish is very big so it fills you up. My boyfriend got the chicken burger which was also very delicious.

Best place to get fish n chips, and its affordable unlike a lot of other restaurants. Adorable place too.
This place is over rated and staff dont seem to know much about fishThe food may have been good in the past but portions of fish are small with lots of batter and greasy. Chips are ok
this place serves one of the very best fish and chips, and I would dare say its probably better than many Ive had in England. the plokkfiskur is a definite must try - it is like a type of buttery cod-fish potato gratin. came recommended by the staff, and Im glad I tried the plokkfiskur. good service, good food, good beers, and good value (by icelandic standards). highly recommend.
Probably the best fish & chips I had on Iceland! This is the real deal - Fantastically fresh fish & chips. It was wonderful! We tried these sauces which all were superb and matched the fish well Lemon-pepper-dill, Jalapeno-garlic, Tartar sauce, Honey mustard-tarragon and Hot chili mayo.We will defiantly stop by again if/when we were back as this is the coziest little place with the best tasting fish and chips on the north side of the Iceland. This is worth visiting!
I loved the setup they have here. Best fish n chips I had in iceland, and although I feel all food is expensive in iceland, you really get your bang for buck here. I would definately recommend checking this place out.
Delicious soup and plokkfiskur. Shark interesting. Fish and chips good.
Very nice restaurant! Friendly service and for sure the best fish n chips in Iceland! 😊
We had the fish and chips special 2.190 kr, really expensive for two smallish pieces of cod. The food was good but I was expecting larger portions for the cost. The lemon pepper dill sauce was very good. The decor is very nice and the staff were pleasant. Kids fish and chips was 1.290 kr.
Great place to eat a light meal. Be ready to spend around $100 USD for two people
