Stately Lutheran church on a hill with many stained-glass windows & a large pipe organ.
Akureyri Church (1940marks the center of Akureyri, Iceland.
Stunning
Beautiful church and city
It’s located at the center of the city. A great place to visit and take a few pictures.
Beautiful church
Nice 👍
Gorgeous inside and out.
Church is OK and the old town but not much to see in Akureyri, I’d skip it unless you are fed up of nature and want to visit a city, there is even a small shopping mall
A beautiful church. Walking in the sanctuary gave me a sense of inner peace and comfort.
Church on the Hill.Nice view from top.
Stunning church. Pay attention to the mosaic windows, they’re so beautiful and full of history!
Beautiful church! Unique architecture if you compare to other church in Scandinavia.
One of the main highlights of this town. Near shops and restaurants and hotels. Very accessible
This is landmark church in Akureyri, not as big as compared to hallgrimskirkja in Reykjavik.I feel the calm and peace when seated down for a prayer.
Church is a lovely viewpoint over the town, Church itself offers something different to the usual style seen across Iceland. Clear landmark that lets you know you are in Akureyri.
Beautiful church with a community feel. If you’re a churchgoer, don’t shy away from joining them in the (modern and sceniccrypt at the end for coffee and cake. Although the service is quite reserved in its style, everyone was very friendly after the service.
Beautiful church.
The most beautiful church Ive ever seen!!This whole place is simply.. magical!!!Especially during night time..when the streets are filled with snow and the lights turn on.The Kea Hotel just at the foot of the church is the best place to stay because of its location. Its easily accessible, be it to the best restaurants there or the cultural center or the movie theatre. The church is additionally beautiful once the lights come up in the evening.Ps: do not miss the burger and fries at the restaurant bang opp the church (opp kea hotel).
Great views! Interesting building regardless of your beliefs. Good parking right next to the church
Very pretty church great views over the town
Looks stunning when floodlit. Disappointed it was not open the next morning when according to Google it should be!I managed to find a rear door open and found someone in the basement, not much of a welcome, was given a short no when I asked about opening. So not a place for pilgrims.
A beautful modern Icelandic church in Akureyri.
Beautiful structure from the outside. Nice views of city from top of staircase outside
Pretty enough church. Love the town!!! Good seafood and wonderful people.
Nice church to see, also from the inside!
We visited Akureyri in early July. This church is the best landmark of this town and looks very pretty. There is a wonderful organ in the church.
I was blessed to be here when the organist was practising. Its a profound moment because you realize how blessed you are. If i could I would thank God every moment. 🙂Perhaps it comes from a childhood being not wanted, receiving years of Christian counseling and being pointed in the direction where Jesus has guided me? 🤔
Great view over the city and the fjord, looks better with light in the evening. Inside the church is quite simplistic and minimalistic, cultural spot if you are in Akureyri.
Lovely harborside town with excellent restaurants, cafes and walking trails.
¡Come on!Try hard to climb the stairs, 90 steps, it worth the visit of this lutheran church. We did it very early in the morning.Take your time to observe the vitreaux. It is said to belong to the Coventry church, but there is a discussion about that, some people dont agreed with that.
Quick a number of steps up to the church but you will get a good view of Akureyri from the top. Nothing really special about this church. glass windows and a proper church organ.Did not feel very welcome as the Uncle was more interested in putting out a "close the door" sign. Does not smile at greetings.
Really lovely church, long stair case up to it, parking lot behind, it up the hill. Beautiful stain glass, 100kr donation for prayer candles.
Lutheran church designed by Guðjon Samuelsson, the same architect of Hallgrimskirkja in Reykjavik. The central stained glass window comes from a church in England (should be Coventry but it is not sure). There is also a big pipe organ and a ship model hanging from the ceiling.
Nice Church. Nice view from the city and has an interesting history.
Unfortunately I didnt have the time to go in, but its amazing architecture! Hope to visit next time when are here.
The Icelandics churchs are very essential and I really like that style
Nice walk up the steps and beutifull inside with the stained glass. Great view from the top and looking at the history. Clock was 5 minutes fast but cant really complain about that
A small church that wouldnt warrant a trip on its own but if youre walking around town it is worth the stop. The stairs were not as bad as some would have you believe
The external architecture is very interesting, but inside is un inspiring and minimal. I spent 3 minutes inside and it was more than enough time. I dont think the church authorities want tourists visiting and thats fine with me, understandable. Great views of the port from the forecourt though.
Nice and well build, one of a must visit landmark in town.
This is only a review of the exterior, since we were not able to see inside. Beautiful, more modern looking church sitting atop a large row of steps. Definitely worth a stop to see.
Absolutely loved it well worth the climb up the steps. Beautiful stained glass windows. And as I live in Coventry the middle window became more poignant
So Beautiful Church
A little church in the second city. You can talk a walk around here and have a lunch that fish&chips is good to taste.
a beautiful city worth seeing
This church is on the mountain you won’t miss and you can park on spot free of charge. Also a good spot to view the harbour of Akureyri.
A highlight of Akureyri :The architecture of the church is quite unique, but unfortunately it was closed when I was there. I wish I could have gone inside it. But anyway, still got some decent photos, and the view from the top of the hill is also pretty nice.
Beautifully large church! We were able to go inside and see the lovely stained glass windows. The area around the church is nice as well.
You can drive up and park next to the church. We didnt know, parked at the bottom of the stairs and gotten the parking card from the Kea hotel next to the church. The church looks grand from the bottom of the staircase. Small church, interesting architecture. It was not open when we were there. Short climb up allow you to see the surrounding area of Akureyri.
You need to climb up some stairs to get to this church.Dont forget to look up at the bottom of the stairs and admire the church. And dont forget to look at the view on Akureyri and the fjord when you are at the top of the stairs, it is wonderful. It is a small church, but a really nice one with lovely windows and such.
