Akbar's Birmingham in Bhān

Food was nice, only downfall was when we saw one of the waiters eat the customers food when they were finished with their food after they left, was quite shocked to see that. But the waiter that served us was lovely, didn’t get their name was a young lad. Another downfall was the restaurant was open to the public when there was a wedding going on which was quite uncomfortable and awkward..

Very bad customer service. Found hair in the plate and food 4 times. Made a complaint and they didnt seem bothered so we cancelled the rest of the order the manager came and took the plate and didnt come back to us again. The waiter came with the bill we payed and came out noone bothered to apologise again.

One of many Akbars in the country Ive visited but I think the best. (So far). Family naans are great and very good for Pakistani food in a nice setting. The Chicken Nambali? starter is one of my favourite starters ever.

Ordered the masala fish, chicken poori and King prawn tikka for starters. The masala fish was slightly overdone but the chicken poori was spot on and tasted great (although slightly on the oily side). The king prawn tikka was really spicy but still tasted great. For mains we ordered ghosht and spinach balti which didnt really have the wow factor and was quite mediocre. The atmosphere is very family friendly and has a nice ambience about the place. Overall, not a bad experience but just expected a little more in terms of taste

Great service, went on weekday so wasn’t too busy. Starters we got chicken mushroom puri which was so lovely - it was a bit oily but the taste was so good. And it was such a big portion! We got masala fish which quite big too.. wasn’t bad. Was slight overcooked I would say. Final starter item we ordered was the prawns which were grilled - it was lovely came with a nice sauce. It was on the slightly spicy side so this is great for spice lovers. Mains we didn’t get to eat in so we took it home - we got meat and saag which tasted like a standard curry tbh.

Very nice and clean place. Food was nice, well cooked and hot. Not my everyday food but I enjoyed the atmosphere and the place.

fab night out with great pleasant service. food not to my taste and is very different to the dishes I usually choose. starters were the best part. its is phenomenally busy so dont b surprised if something doesnt arrive.

Can make food really spicy if you request for it, tasty dishes, real Indian cuisine

Food is decent, as are serving size. But it seems like a confused place. Indian food, Thai design, American celebration. The waiter keeps of passive-aggressively hitting on one of our guests as well. We faced payment issues with the card terminal, later we found out we were charged 4x.

This is one of the popular curry houses in Birmingham, theres 2 reasons for that, 1the location, 2size of the naan.This restaurant is in a good location, it has its own car park which is at times tight and fills up really quickly.The decor is decent but it is a tad bit dark inside so ladies and gents, please take your flashlights with you.If you want to know if they serve alcohol, then YES they do.So lets get to the food. As mentioned earlier, the naans here are huge, they come hanging and 2 of you will struggle to finish it. Plus now youll only need 1 naan for the table, unless your extreamly hungry.Even though their naan is bigger than other restaurants, its mainly due to it being rolled out thinner, so all in all, its the same.The curries are all relatively cheap, so if your going for a mean for 2, expect your bill to be around £20/23 (also depends on what you drink and how many glasses you get).I would recommend getting a cheese and chicken starter, especially for the kids. But be careful as it comes on a sizzler plate.The main headaches of this place is that when its busy, and if you havent booked, be prepared to wait a long time. I would recommend either bringing in a book or start binge watching a new TV series as you wait for a table.Also, getting out of the car park onto the main road is another long wait. My Experience at Akbar’s was amazing, the food was incredible, the service was amazing, our Server ( Harry Young boy was very good. Thanks to the team and the chef for making our dinner perfect. WOULD Definitely RECOMMEND

Made a reservation for 7pm when arrived long Que waiting to be seated when asked the reception how long our table would be says at least 2 hours waiting so we were just expected to stand up in the corridor outside the restaurant would not recommend this restaurant if you book a table in advance and expect to be seated the same day you get there

Quite disappointing.Waiters were rude, had no patience at all and smelling of BO which was quite off putting.The lamb chops were disgusting, they were fried!? Who even does that? Chicken wings were nasty. On to the mains, the curries were sub-par to say the least.There are many other places in Birmingham that offer a better experience.

Fabulous waiter service, very attentive. Delicious food and drink. Exceptionally clean and tidy.

I have been here a few times and the food is usually good and so is the service. Its convenient as it is a 15 minute drive away from where I live. Went here for a meal tonight and the food was not very nice. Burnt and felt like it just had way too much masala on it. As for the service, it was poor.They sat us on a table which was very small and just dumped four large starter trays on top of one another and walked off. I then asked the waiter if he could pack our food that we didnt finish and he brought over a foil container and foil sheet and asked us to pack it up ourselves. Dont think I will be visiting this place again.

I took my family to Hagley Rd Birmingham Akbar resturant. I was dissapointed with the service and the quality of the food. The decor was terrible and the resturant was dimly lit , the food wasnt cooked properly. The fish karahi smelt rotten , it definetely was not fresh. The rest of the food I ordered is still giving my stomach problems to this day . I definetely will not recommend this resturant to anyone .

Starters came out (mine fish pakoravery bland and soggy, there was no dips, sauces etc.. When we asked for some sauces to go with starters he offered us ketchup.. The signature lamb chops were very dry and overdone...Everything was rushed and it affected quality.. Cutlery was dirty and still had dried food in between the folk prongs. Baltis came out very quickly but again not very hot just warm, the wife had a medium balti and it was hotter than my madras...I know the place was packed but still there should be some pride in the dishes your serving. Had been looking forward to this for weeks only to be let down, when we did complain our answer was ill let the kitchen know... No offer of a replacement or Ill get the management Nothing... To sum up its Fast Food in a restaurant...Ive only given this 3 stars as the garlic bread the size of my head was beautiful...Will probably try again but on a quiet night..

I loved the ambience, the staff was so quick and friendly.We havent been to Akbars before but decided to go for our family meal. Service from start to finish was exceptional. Sadly, we didnt take his name but it was a young man originally from Pakistan we liked his service, so we tipped him extra.For starters we had the pakoras, French fries , and samosa chaat that we really enjoyed alot.For mains we had biryani chicken charsi, butter chicken with naan which we also really enjoyed. We will visit again 😁

Hadnt been to this place in years and to be honest wish I hadnt gone, absolute dive of a place, ripped seats, disgusting toilets, the food was average at best, dont bother with the meat chops starter as theyre no way as good as they used to be, the poppadoms which is a hard sell on their part were stale cold and hence not crispy, the prices have gone up and the food has gone down, best avoided if you can as if this is the state of one of the last in the chain to open Id hate to think what the state of one of the first to open would be, I wont bother with an Akbars ever again, the plus point was at least the Pepsi was OK and there was lots of on site parking available.. Ps lots of parking available should have been the red flag, live and learn.

First time trying this place after being told it’s not worth it. I gave it a go. Got the Roshan lal dish with the aloo gobi side dish and the big sharing naan. Poppadoms for starters with dips. First off the dips weren’t to my liking at all, the naan was really delicious. The curries were average at best, felt bland mostly. Seating area at the back isn’t the cleanest as the booths are falling apart. Waiter was really nice, sikh guy with glasses. Probably won’t be coming here again.EDIT* Me and mrs are both sick from yesterday. Absolutely unacceptable! Avoid this place at all costs.

Going to leave an honest review and I hope the owner Mr H can take time out and read itTraveled from the heart of London (east sideto taste what this restaurant is all about.....Been to the likes of farmhouse tipu sultan Sher khan but have to say that this place really disappointed me.I was recommended by a friend...The food was not tasty and then chapli kebab is just a Pakistani kebab which my mum used to make during Ramadan time so theres no chapal to it.I even told the waiter who served me that I was not happy with the taste of the food.Chiken was hard and the lamb rubbery and on top of that the daal gave me and wife a bad tummy the morning after.Please can you improve your recipe and your hygiene.It was a long drive but not so long experience.....Plus point is.......Have to say its very affordable and wont burn a hole in your pocket

Probably the worst Indian food I’ve had. No flavour in the curries and drinks were filled with mainly ice cubes!

They were busy when we landed but booked far in advance. Still didnt get a table till 5-10mins later.Food was not great but edable if i was a Lion or an exotic cat. Only reason Im giving it great reviews is because of a brother whos name I unfair dont know, he tried his absolute best to accommodate a table of 7 and kept coming back to ask if we needed anything else Im giving HIM 3 stars because the restaurant isnt what it used to be.

Food was poor quality and not worth the price. Starters were okay, nothing special. Sheesh kebab was horribly chewy and missing key flavours. But the curries we had were terrible. Chicken karahi and ghost karahi both tasted old and lacking flavours other than the fresh corriander ontop. We had the Corriander naan and keema naan. Keema naan was basically missing all the keema filling. And the garlic naan was so stretched that it was crispy and not soft like it should be. Mango lassi was too sweet for my liking. And we skipped desert from the already disappointing meal and headed home.The woman who served us had no manners at all and had a very non interested tone in her voice. Kept coming to our table too often and asking us if we want plates taken which still had food on them and wanting us to have our mains. Felt rushed for time. Terrible customer service from the waitress.Overall this place has gone downhill. The food was a huge let down as was the overall feel of the place. This will be my last visit as there are much better places to eat in Birmingham.

I would strongly avoid this restaurant. Chicken wings undercooked, they brought a second serving free of charge which came back burnt. Curries had no flavour. My whole party got upset stomachs and food poisoning. Waiters did a decent job however man at the cashier was beyond rude. I dont know why, but when i asked for a mocktail without ice, I was told no, you cant have it without ice. Ok....Overall I will not be recommending or visiting this restaurant again.

Omg this place has drastically declined. We waited over an hour for a table and then ordered food. It took Ed ages to come only ordered 2 curries and one naan. The butter chicken tasted disgusting and so did the lamb dish, the waitress tasted the lamb dish and also agreed it was vile. I sent the butter chicken back and the manager agreed to swap it for another dish. Can you believe he just added water and chili to the dish and sent it back!! Such bad service. I didnt pay for the butter chicken as did not touch it but this place has really gone down hill. Manager with the bold head has no clue place is so short staffed. Wont be ever going back.

Excellent customer service, the restaurant is done up very nicely as well. Very busy as the food is absolutely smashing 10/10. Definitely will be coming back to this restaurant in the near future. Thank You

Avoid this place, I went on 25/07/22, saw a rat in the car park. Restaurant is dark and dingy, waiters are walking around like headless chickens mixing in with the chefs who bring out the food. The bowls which the curries are served on have either loose or missing handles. The food itself is not great. It’s been 26 hours and my stomach is still not feeling ok. I have had an ongoing colon cleanse since eating here. Have beans on toast at home instead.

Manager is excellent. Staff a bit inpatient sometimes but maybe because it was too much for her as it a large group. Will recommended more than 1 staff for large group But the food is fabulous. Will go there again. First time to Birmingham.

Literally the best Indian food ever. The portion sizes are immense, quality superb, service excellent. Cant fault anything. We had a fantastic experience.

Akbar has definitely changed throughout the past few years, mainly its appearance. Food was nice, quite spicy though. Drinks were nice although the pink colada tasted like plain pineapple juice. The waiters were nice however one threw a glass at us, is it a new tradition? Overall, its a nice place which I would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere which serves typical Pakistani/Indian cuisine.

Upon arriving, wait for table was only 5 minutes. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant good ambience. We had a very attentive and informative server. We ordered 2 handis one was butter chicken and one was karahi gosht. Both were delicious especially the butter chicken and was made spicy as we requested it. 😋 Enjoyed the butter naan which was soft and buttery. Alongside our meal we ordered mango lassi jug which was also nice.The only negative was the table we sat on the decor needed a revamp, paint needed refreshing and seats were torn a little.Overall I would definitely recommend this place to others and would eat there again.

I loved the ambience, the staff was so quick and friendly. 4 star cuz I had bigger expectations when it comes to taste and the hype Akbar has ( as i was specially visiting from Australia and friends here recommended me), but werent met and didnt appease my taste buds to that level. Lamb chops & chicken karahi were the only items menu I found palatable. Naan was good too and so was the presentation lovely.

An amazing place, the owners have really taken care with customer service and food is amazing. I would recommend the place superb food.

We went there as a group of 30. I think Akbars has changed drastically over two years time. Waiters were rude and looked angry most of the time. Only one waitress showed bit of happy emotions. One waiter even started showing attitude to my young colleague. Akbar is definitely not the way it used to be. Not sure if they were intimated by such big group but I was not impressed at all. Akbar has definitely lost their touch over the time or we had bad luck on that day.

Seekh Kebabs were disaster, they were so thick and bit undercooked.Chickens wings were sooo small and not worth the money.Lamb chops and chicken tikka were OK.Mains Lamb karahi was OK too.Gave us all stomachache the next day.Don’t get desserts. We tried Rasmalai, gulab jamun and Kulfi all were failures.

A great place to eat, the service is fast and the staff very polite, the menu is extensive also.I tried the mixed sea food the first night with mushroom rice. taste amazing but too much rice, order rice as a side dish, this is much more manageable.Second night, Dover sole with coconut rice, this was even better.I would definitely return to this place.

Food is sub-par, like a maccies at 2am it will suffice. Waited over an hour to be seated on a weekday. Service was mediocre at best, the table we were seated on wobbled.Mens WC were disgusting, no loo roll, broken toilets, filthy wash basin.Go spend your hard earnt money elsewhere!

Absolutely rubbish customer service, 45 mins wait before getting seated then we found the table ‘wobble’ food presentation one of the worst ever seen 0/10 taste of kebabs was 9/10 however the curry we had 0/10 the chef’s made it even worse by throwing in full length green chilli!! Next the atmosphere 3/10 and here come Akbar special the toilets 0/10 wet floor broken tiles price of the food very expensive Unfortunately I strongly advise anyone visiting this place to think twice. We complaint to members of staff who just ignore us , they were that much busy that you can tell staff were over worked and needed a break.

Food was delicious as expected! Service was immaculate, cant fault the waiter who looked after us this evening. Was our first outing since covid, really enjoyed the atmosphere and relaxed dining vibes.Parking available + they take card payments, toilets and baby changing facilities available.Would definitely recommend 👍🏻

Not the best service and food.The place needs a lot of improvement. The people at the reception is horrible. We were asked to wait as it was a direct walk-in, later we discovered he didn’t note down our name in the list. Wasted more than 15 minutes for their negligence. The service was horrible, they don’t bring sufficient cutlery and need to ask again and again.Food was bland. The buttery chicken was not buttery, the lamp curry was too watery. The only good part was Chicken tikka curry and family nan.Over all I won’t recommend to any food lovers.

Ordered the lamb chops with chips and salaad. Was expecting a well presented dish with beautifully cut salad. What I got was sriveled up chops with chips dumped on top and a separate plate of chunky salad.Then I was expecting fish with salad and rice. What I got was fish in a puddle with rice splattered on the side.The rasmalai was ambala and was presented in a plastic container.Akbars has deteriorated into a dump. The decor is falling apart and the place smells odd. The chairs need replacing and the chefs need to learn how to present food so that it is appealing to the customers. Very disappointing. Big Johns serves better than this.Not going Akbar again.

Good quality food, havent been here in many years but the standards are still the same. Very busy on the weekends but still the service was great. So many Asian cuisine restaurants out there but this is up there with the best in terms of food and service, also standards are really high too. Overall a very enjoyable experience and the food speaks for itself.

Brilliant food, Amazing Decor, one of my favourite asian food locations.Staff can be rude and unbothered at times hence not able to give a 5 star rating. Came here last night for my 18th birthday... And wow what a surprise it was! From the lovely decor, to the amazing lamb chops... The balti dishes were also really nice!The place had ambience... From the dim lighting to the quiet music and the smell of grilled food filling the air, it really was a lovely spot to be!This place has the things youd expect from a restaurant, such as toilet facilities, open tables as well as booths, good table service, a bar selling a range of liqueurs and soft drinks...
