Airport Motor Inn Marathon - in Marathon, Canada
Out here for work, beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean.
Clean enough rooms, comfy enough bed. Hard water in the showers with limited pressure. Complimentary bagged breakfast, no actual food as one would expect pre covid. A bit pricey for what you get, but it had last minute (ishavailability for which I was grateful.
Honestly, not much to look at on the outside, but it has a special charm on the inside. If we pass through this area again, I would definitely stay again.
Good clean rooms good people very reasonable rates right off the main Highway heading into Sault Ste Marie just in Marathon
Ok motel to stop for a night. Beds were quite comfortable. Staff were friendly and really nice. Wasnt the cleanest room (open drinks in the fridge, spills on bathroom countertop. Enjoyed the breakfast...perfect for a traveller on the go.
Theres no bathrooms for hours and hours prior to getting to this motel and they refuse to let people to use the restroom. Super rude staff. Wont be staying here
Great personal, always friendly and helpful. The place to be in a one night trip passing by.
Not a 5 star hotel, but more than comfortable enough for a place to stay the night on your travels.Comfy beds, TV, microwave and fridge.Would definitely stop in again.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, room was clean and the beds were comfortable. There was a bear in the parking lot while we were there, but hopefully he has been relocated.
I don’t want to be too negative as we were in a bind and we managed to get their last pet friendly room. Staff was very friendly and accommodating but their rooms could use some TLC and a fridge would be nice.
Nice people, but left my reading glasses in the room and didnt realize it until we got to our hotel and went to get my glasses out of my case. I called airport inn right away and they said if anything was found they would have saved them. They claimed that my glasses were not found. I know they are there, maybe behind the bed. Just not sure why the cleaning person wouldnt have found them. Otherwise rooms were just ok.
Run away. Room was just fumigated for bed bugs. Heavy formaldehyde smell or something. Worst motel you could pick between Winnipeg and Toronto. Disgusting. Run away.
Yes the hotel is dated. However, we stayed in a double Queen bed type room and the bed sheets were newer as well as the comforters and we were very comfortable. The front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. We were grateful for a clean bed and bathroom after a long days drive.
We had a hard time checking in and our room was quite dirty. We slept on the top of the blankets with our own blanket and pillow and got up and left early
Absolute awesome. Night guy is fantastic. Was a great stay. Great people clean cheap price
We were rushing to a funeral and picked this hotel because it was close to the highway. The room was clean and didn’t have an unpleasant smell, the bed was actually really comfortable and there weren’t any crazy loud noises. If I wanted luxury, I would fly. 😁
The place may be older but it’s clean and warm and the ladies working there make it! We ended up stranded in marathon and Katlin, Hillary, Randy and Angie went above and beyond to make sure we where comfortable. Absolute dolls! I think a lot of these reviews claiming dirty are mistaking age with grime. It’s a good warm place to lay your head!!
Dec. 2021- I would give less than 1 for the rating. The outside looks MUCH better than the inside! There was garbage still in the room from the previous person(sand unclean. It took 3 hours for the room to heat up to take off our jackets. The sheets were only flat sheets. They did not even cover the bed surface so your feet were directly on the mattress. Bed is firm, pillows very used. The TV did not work. No discount/reduction provided when complaint was made. Plugins were scarce. The room cost $135.00. Manager was to follow up with a phone call but it did not happen. Take the extra time to go into Marathon to a better hotel/motel.
Well theres no negative ratings so I have to give one star. There is no money invested back into this joint.Rooms are all yellow from smoking was still allowed. No pillow cases on the pillows.Motif is circa 1972.Beds sagging in the middle YUK yuk yuk. Unless you are desperate I do not recommend this place. Staff at front desk was not friendly at all either. We checked out at 2:30am as we couldnt stand the place.
My experience was awful. No hot water. Breaker blew after trying to heat baby bottle. Got bit by bugs. Not clean and bad beds. Just overall outdated.
Its good for its category; the room was always clean after returning from my day... although my microwave didnt work properly and the toilet seat wouldnt stay up.Overall it was a comfortable stay
This motel is old, dilapidated and poorly cleaned, even during this time of pandemic concern and restrictions. Zero amenities (no coffee machine, for example), tired, scarred and weather beaten appliances (microwave and fridge). Missing a bedside lamp, although bracket on wall remains in place. Bathroom suffers from holes in shower wall.In sum, there is zero pride of ownership displayed in this facility. I doubt the outside of this large motel has had the cigarette butts, etc picked up in over a year. Booked via the on-line ad for a cross-Canada drive (800+ km driven day of check-in), the price charged (CA$140is outlandish for the quality provided. Highway robbery !
Well…. I dont know where to start…. Maybe the cigarette smells in the room? Or the untidy brown curtain almost falling off the rod.. the bathtub seems to be the cleanest spot in the room… Now I know why Terry Fox needed to run so much… 😅 DONT go there if you can avoid it.
The room was small and very dated. All of the bits were there, but is seemed very tired. The fridge leaked, the coffee maker wouldnt, and the closet doors were jammed. There were surprisingly few electrical outlines, for charging phones, and powering CPAPs. The lobby looked really nice, but the rest of the building could do with some work.
Outdated, dirty hall but clean room and confortable bed. Friendly staff with a warm welcome. No ice machine, no vending machine. Closest convenience store in evening is 4 km away.
Its an outdated motel. While it appeared clean, you could tell everything needed to be updated. From the towels and bedding to the heating system. The heater wasnt on when we arrived, so the room was very cool. We didnt end up showering there, as the towels were worn out and you could see the build up in the drain. Its really the only hotel/motel out in that area so you dont really have many options unless you choose to keep driving roughly 3 more hours out to Thunder Bay.
Not a very clean hotel the bed sheeting is old n toren . Some rooms have microwave s some dont but they are never cleaned. If I had a choice I would never stay here.
Hotel is conveniently located but very dated. My room had threadbare and fraying bedspreads, rickety table, peeling wallpaper, patches in drywall not covered over. Bed was comfortable but thats about it. Very little value for the $150/night I was charged. I would avoid it if I had to come through again.
They charge large sum of money for dirty outdated room with clogged bath and sink, and cheat on people . We stayed there in August 2020. Moved in with 4 kids at night, was very exhausted going many miles from up north. Was told that 170+ tax for 1 room with 2 beds is for 24 hrs. Got kicked out in 10 hours as they needed our room for a bunch of motorcycle riders who arrived in the morning. This is disgusting place with awfull ruthless staff. Avoid it.
Pretty grubby joint. Looked nice upon entry, then we started walking down to the rooms. When I got into my room, noticed an odd odor. Didnt think anything of it as northern ontarios just a grubby dump in itself thanks to the economy. Laying in bed is where I noticed how gross it actually was... I glanced over behind the bedside table and the amount of garbage and crud was awfully disturbing.Unfortunately, its an area where theres not a whole lot for accommodations, but a couple minutes to clean up a little more would greatly benefit this place for sure.
The room stinks, I dont think they do housekeeping properly. I hated every second of being in this room and my honest thought was even sleeping inside my car would have been a better experience than sleeping in such disgusting place like this. They definitely capitalized on the fact that there arent many other options in the area, but honestly I suggest just keep driving for another 2 hours or so you will find much better place to stay.
Room itself was ok. No fridge or microwave. Was very noisy. My door had to be slammed just to lock it. Suppose all doors were the same. Non stop slamming doors throughout the night 🌙. No sound barriers whatsoever. One story building and people walking sounds like a herd of 🐘 pounding. Pictures showed a fridge and microwave. Nope. Ice machine down the hall was not working. No signor anything. Went back to room to call front dest. Phone didnt even work. Luckily had my cell phone. Online pictures showed a fridge. Check out was 11AM. Chamber maids were talking very loudly in the halls very early in the. Morning 🌄. I was woken many times throughout the night 🌙. Will slamming doors and loud talking. Room was unbelievably very expensive for such a budget room. Was planning 2 nights. No way.
The staff tried to give me a room in wing with where people who work in the area. The room was dated, smelled like cigarette smoke. I went back to the front desk and asked for a different room. The second room was barely any better. I would not stay there again. While I was at the front fest another guest was requesting a room change as well.
Dont go here. Front staff not pleasant at all. In time of Covid when there is supposed to be extra cleaning our room was not clean. Got up in morning and stepped on a bottle cap and cut my foot. We didnt have any drinks in room. When I brought it up with desk clerk he checked his sheets and said NO the room was cleaned. I said obviously not very well to which he said they have been busy. Garbage cans around property overflowing. Ice machine doesnt work. Dirty dishes in the hallway.
Friendly people running the place but wayyyy over priced. $145+tax for a run down place/room, sheets were stained (slept in my sleeping bag), also advertising free breakfast, but breakfast is cancelled because of COVID...you’d think this would be reflected in the price or made clear before check in
I’m usually a tolerant person when it comes to accommodations, I don’t need much, other than maybe a door that shuts to my room! Whatever you do don’t go in one of the “pristine” trailers they got out back, unless you like squatting over a septic tank.Honestly place has stickers on their door that says proud establishment.... really? Doors don’t shut and can’t even bother to call someone to empty the sewage. These owners take zero pride and my advice to anyone is keep on driving or sleep in your car.
Just did a cross North America Tour and stayed in hotel rooms throughout. This was by far the dirtiest, most unkept and expensive place we have stayed in. Torn bedding, stained bathroom sink and bathtub incredibly old furniture, and $135 before tax to stay in the middle of December. I would have expected to pay about $60 for a room of this low quality. The owner should take some pride and actually make this place look like a hotel room and not your grandmothers cottage. Front desk staff I encountered in contrast were pleasant and professional.
Very old. I understand that there aren’t many places around, but take a little pride and update your rooms and your business. Curtains had holes in them, dark and dirty carpets, when you take a shower...the water is slimy (you get out and don’t feel clean at allthe water leaves a film on your skin and in your hair. Room was very dark and “dungy” had a “musky” odour. Owners don’t have pride.
The room was disgusting. From the stained lampshade and bathroom ceiling, to the smell and appearance of the whole room. The wall paper was peeling, the toilet seat wouldnt even stay up on its own as the toilet has a counter over top of it preventing the seat from being lifted all the way open. There were no towels in our room. The curtain was not big enough to cover the whole window. And worst of all is the price, I have been traveling from coast to coast and this is by far the most I had to pay for a room and easily the worst one I have seen in my life. Just drive past and find another place to sleep or even just sleep in your car.
Very disappointing, worst motel Ive ever been to for cleanliness and outrageous price. It was outdated and Unclean - had to thoroughly check for bedbugs because it gave off that impression that it would be filled with it. The room felt damp. The bedsheets were not even put on appropriately. The curtains were broken. And the toilet was dirty. Very expensive - $128 plus tax and $25 pet fee. If we werent exhausted and late checking in, then we wouldve left and gotten a room somewhere else or slept in the car. 1 star.
Arrived at 11pm. Checked in by a lovely bloke called John. Checked into our room - weird they asked for # of occupants rather than just charging for room. Room was CLEAN!! 5 stars. I am pretty thorough with my checks at hotels after a bedbug incident a few years ago. Motel is definitely a bit dated - occassional funky smell but its an old motel in an old building, its to be expected.Breakfast was mediocre- free so cant really complain. Toast, bagels, boiled eggs, pancakes and ham. Nothing too fancy but enough to get you back on the road.Would spend the night again. Dropped a star for price of room and breakfast.
Beds, service and breakfast were decent. But the smell was unbearable. The room needs urgent upgrading with a broken door lock. Other than that a good place to stay the night and rest.
Omg. Please stay away from this motel. The bedspreads were ripped where sewn. The toilet seat was full of urine from whomever else was in there. The wall had something sprayed on it which I can only imagine what it could be, just gross and the ceiling in the bathroom had brown marks on it. Very pricey and had to pay extra for my pet. Total shock. The worst motel I stayed in and the most expensive.while traveling across this beautiful country.Good thing I had Lysol wipes. It got a star but it’s only because I had to so I could post the review.
Its an okay place, clean bathrooms, the rooms could get more updated. Smoke smell. Okay customer service and descent breakfast. I was unhappy because there was only one bedside lamp in the whole room that worked, other bulbs were burned out, and were not replaced, cos the maintenance crew wasnt available.
For that price I think I should have a holiday inn experience. Rooms smells like cigarettes and asked to check out if no rooms are available then was told I have to pay for the entire night. Threatened to pos my incident on social media and was told $50.00 because I was in the room for a bit. The towels have yellow spots on them as if someone used it to wipe blood and it was not washed properly. This place care more about making money than providing great services.
Stayed a few week ago and I debated driving to Thunder Bay for the night as the accommodations were not up to standard. Hotel room was very dated, smelled, curtains did not even cover the full window. I was later told that i must have stayed in the older section of the motel. I would not recommend staying.
Hotel was decent, 200 room level hallway looked pretty good but then i got into the 100 room level and the hall smelt like smoke and the carpet was gross. Theres a counter over the toilet which prevents you from putting the seat up to pee.The breakfast was also very underwhelming, there was fake eggs and frozen ham, i just had cereal because the other stuff just looked gross. The carpet was old. Beds were pretty decent and a great selection of TV channels so kudos to that. I can say that the consistency of the rooms are off because one room would have a fridge and another wouldnt, or one would have a fan and the other wouldnt. Theres also a room that the window faces the hallway. Overall its a decent place to stay but definitely not at the top of my list.
Its an okay motel. Nothing memorable. Bugs were absolutely horrible outside. The motel looked very old and like it had very little maintenance done. The walls in the room I stayed in wasnt to bad. Looked to be the biggest room in the hotel. Beds were surprisingly good. Internet quality wasnt bad either. Marathon was also very small. Ate at Rumors café and bistro. It had good wraps but thats all i got to try in my one meal i had while in Marathon.
DONT STAY HERE! Its crazy overpriced ($150and the place is bad! The shower constantly changed temperature literally every 2-5 seconds from really cold to very hot!! So brutal! And the towels are so old, small and feel like sandpaper! The curtains are all ripped, along with the wallpaper! The internet is SO SLOW and kept disconnecting. The front desk charged me the wrong amount for the room and didnt even notice until I pointed it out. I havent slept yet so Im not sure how the bed or breakfast is but im skeptical with the standards of everything else!Drive longer or stop sooner, but dont stay in Marathon!!
Stayed for one night in a pet friendly room. It was quite expensive considering the few amenities and lack of modernization; we stayed in much nicer hotels along the way for the same price. The staff were friendly, it was a nice quiet spot with easy access to the highway, and I have to give the housekeepers credit because even for an old place it was unexpectedly spotless.
