Air terjun Madakaripura - Tourist attraction in Kencong, Indonesia
Air terjun Madakaripura in Kencong
Description
Privilege
Get there by taxi. The taxi has to stop in a parking and then you must take a scooter to the entrance of the natural area. The scooter is 30k return. The entrance fee for foreigners is 50k. Apparently there are a few scams in the area. You only have to pay once that is a the ticket office at the entry (after the scooter ride).Once inside youll be ask many times to have a guide. You dont really need one as the path is clear but the harassment can be tough. In fact, at the end of the walk a local insisted in acting as a guide even if we insisted many times we didnt need one. So it can be a bit awkward. We end up paying him very little money what probably encourages this behaviour...However, the scenery is amazing and the waterfall really worth it!
MoreBe AWARE, dont follow Google maps to this location. Road is terrible and leads you to the wrong place. Put parking space as Google maps location. Waterfall is wonderful, Bali Waterfalls dont compare. Small walk of 10 to 15 min to the waterfall. Once you reach the waterfall you have to walk under it, really cool :)So bring a raincoat and flip flips (can also buy just infront of the waterfall).Entrance 80K, parking 5K (tourists)
MoreWhat a shame. Local mafia at the entrance forcing you to use local guide when no guide is necessary. Wouldn’t allow us to go through the entrance without paying over 10x the entrance fee. Local bike drivers were trying to help us but forced to step away. Local authorities should make sure it is safe for tourists
MoreVery rude local approached me asking to pay double and didn’t allow me to go without a guide. Correct price for ticket is 20.000 and 10.000 the motorbike bike ride. Guide js not a requirement. They didn’t allow me to go down to the waterfall unless we payed what he wanted that was 4 times the price. Be aware before coming all the way here.
MoreGreat experience. A short scooter ride into the national park entrance, then trek 20min in amidst streams and bridges. At the end of trail are these grand waterfalls waiting for you!
MoreGo with a guide, be prepared to hike for ~30-45mins to reached the second largest waterfall in indonesia. You will get wet, bring non slip slippers/shoes.
MoreU should come here if you want to contemplate the beauty of nature. A great place to take pictures and experience with ur family and friends. The service was great and the people around was very friendly.I highly recommend this place
MoreBUY A PONCHO and the Aqua shoes!! It’s a dream if you do! Did this today - unless you are VERY proficient in flip flops they will fall off as you walk through the river bed and across the slippy sharp rocks. You will walk THROUGH the waterfall several times - My $100 raincoat did not cover my shorts like the cheap ponchos did 😂. We’re 14 countries into a world tour and this is EASILY one of the most amazing! HUGELY underrated place and so few tourists, and the moped journey here is absolutely worth it, easily comparable to the best Waterfalls in the world!Get there before everyone finds out!
MoreWalking a little far , but nice view
Magnificent geological location. Well worth a visit, 22k for entrance. Bring shoes that are ok to walk in the stream, and a rain jacket as you need to walk thought the water fall to access the main pool. It’s 3km walk along a road then concrete path from the entrance gate to the water falls. And another 2.5km from the “fake car park” to the entrance, but there is an ojek option
MoreBreathtaking! A must visit if you are in the area.Tip: Dony buy the flip flops that they convince you you d need at the gate. Youll be sturdier over the wet rocks barefoot.
MoreSceneries are very beauty.glad to hv great waterfalls in the country
I went to this waterfall on my way to Surabaya from Mount Bromo after hiring a motorcycle taxi. Its a nice waterfall hidden upstream. When the weather is nice, its such a wonderful place for photography. The hike along the entryway stream is enjoyable as you get to enjoy nature and observe various animals. Dont forget to take umbrellas or waterproof jacket or raincoat as youll need while walking beneath the rock shelter with light waterfall from above. Alternatively you can also buy a plastic poncho at the base. Recommended not to wear shoes or high heels or sandals. Best would be slippers. You can have local snacks at the main entrance where youll be paying the entrance fees as well.
Morethe place is beautiful, the tracking is not too far. you have to have a raincoat ready if you dont want to get wet. but there is a shop that sells raincoats and drinks at low prices
MoreBeautiful natural waterfall and beautiful scenery along the trekking route, I think its the most beautiful waterfall in East Java.
MoreVery beautiful waterfall in mount bromo
Hidden beauty! Easy trek to the 3rd waterfall then beyond the rocks, 2more to explore. the view was stunning! The greeneries during the trek was refreshing on the eyes. Amazing experience!
MoreIt’s a beautiful place to simple trekking, take a bath or shower with the view. Hehehe. But be careful with your step so many sharp rock.
MoreDelightful experience. After 1 kilometer hike in the rainforest, on wooden bridges and in the silence of nature, the waterfalls are a lovely sight. You will get completely wet because you have to walk underneath the springy water. Before reaching the entrance (the fee was around 20k IDR per person), you can pay a “driver” to carry you for the first 4 km by motorbike (usually 10k). Don’t pay the return trip in advance! This was the only place we were scammed in Indonesia.
MoreIt’s more of a experience than just a visual treat as you can enjoy the falling water and the pool which is flowing and percolates. It’s about 30 min walk to the bottom of the waterfall from the bike parking, I didn’t explore the cliff side. The falling water requires raincoat if you prefer to stay dry. There are places which feel like shower and others where you can feel the force of the fall.
MoreIt was a great place to visit. So beautiful 😍 dont forget to bring your raincoat 😊
MoreThis is the second part of the trip from Cheap Bromo tour. We arrived at the small store station outside the water fall where we need to get in by motor bikes. We can opt to change at the store with 2000 rph. The motor bike ride is about 5 minutes and you can opt for slower speed. Once enter in, you will need to walk about 1.3km, roughly 20 -mins walk and you will reach the waterfall. Remember to buy raincoat, Slippers and waterproof plastic cover for your phone if not, you will not be able to take photos with all the water falling on you. Each one coat rph 15000. The scenery was awesome. We enjoyed the trip very much
MoreTravelled here and had an amazing time. We’d haggled with locals in Probolinggo to find a cheap taxi but couldn’t find a taxi return trip for less than 500,000 rupiah, so we settled for 500,000 and booked using our hostel. The trip took an hour and twenty minutes in each direction. When you arrive, you stop at a barrier where you exit the taxi. There’s some warungs around and a lot of locals. The locals (and taxi drivertry and convince you to catch a motorbike to the next checkpoint that’s about 2km away. They’ll also say that it’s essential to have a guide, but it’s not. After firmly stating that we didn’t need a guide, we took motorbikes to the entry gate. It cost us 20,000 each for a return trip. When you arrive at the entry gate they’ll try and convince you to pay them 20,000. Don’t do it. Pay them 10,000 as agreed because you’ll have a different driver on the way back. The entry gate area has a few warungs where locals will try and sell you drinks, honey, flip flops, raincoats and phone protectors. If you don’t have protective gear I’d suggest buying some because you will get wet. I managed to haggle flip flops down from 20,000 to 15,000 rupiah; raincoats cost 10,000 but I’m sure you could haggle that down too. Alternatively there are lockers near the waterfall so you can pop all your valuables in there for 5,000 or 10,000 rupiah. I’d suggest buying a drink or some food from the locals, it’s a nice gesture and helps the local economy - make sure to say Matur Suwun! (thankyou in Jawa)To get to the waterfall you have to pay an entry fee of 36,000 rupiah then walk about 1.5km. The walk is really nice and quite easy. If you’re lucky you’ll see a few monkeys hanging around! There’s a small hut along the way where you will need to hand in your tickets, so don’t throw them away! Follow the path along until you reach the waterfalls! You’ll need to pass through a few smaller waterfalls and calf deep water to get to the main waterfall, so be careful as it can be slippery! The waterfall area is really beautiful, the water is lovely and refreshing is is great to be able to relax in nature.Overall Madakaripura waterfall is 5 stars. It’s such a breathtaking waterfall and unlike any waterfalls in Australia. This is a must do if you’re in Indonesia!
MoreFirst and foremost, the entrance ticket (charged by park staffcosts 36,000 IDR for foreigners (18,000 for localsand that’s absolutely the only thing you need to pay for! The ticket booth can be found approx. 2,2km after the first gate. This is an easy walk on the paved, almost flat road, under the shade. After the ticket booth, you walk 2 more km to reach the waterfalls, on a well-maintained walkway. There is absolutely no need for a motorbike ride or to pay anything else to get there. No need for a guide either. The waterfalls are made of 4-5 cascades, creating a continuous spray of water for 30-35 metres. With rain, the cascades become more impressive.Do your research properly in advance and take sandals/flip flops with you, a poncho (if you don’t enjoy the water spraying onto your body and clothesand a plastic bag to protect your smartphone. It goes without saying that after all the hassle, and the disappointment with the waterfalls, I do not recommend to visit. The local authorities must crack down on the charlatans and clearly publicise the real rules to visit the waterfalls.PS: I will spare you to the details of our argument with the “so-called” gatekeepers and the harassment of the hawkers, including children.
MoreSuper amazing place. Wear shorts and slippers and bring a change of clothesThey do sell ponchos and slippers at the site itself. Theres also an option to take the motorcycle for IDR10,000 for 4km then you walk the remaining 2kmSome locals will approach you and be a guide, we paid around idr 40,000. It is good because they ensure your safety once you reach closer to the waterfall. The rocks are really slippery and there is a section thats super narrow, so they will help to ensure you make it across safely (and you know, local employment)
MoreThe experience of exploring these waterfalls was really great. One of the best I have ever seen ! But to get there, you HAVE to take a guide which is there just for showing you where to take pictures... There is an additional ticket to buy (we paid a total of 250k idr for two. You also have to have a raincoat because you will be wet (on place 20k each). There is a motorbike taxi to get to the starting point and then 2km to get to the waterfalls by feet (path is good and easy). Its expensive but worth exploring !
MoreMagical! First waterfall that I encountered during my visit in Surabaya! The tour guide that we got was a great photographer! Ill include his photo in this review! Although it has to be well maintained about the cleanliness a little bit. You got to pay 20K gojek (Motorcycleonly if you didnt want to walk. Waterfall? Just beautiful and unexpected!
MorePretty awesome waterfall, should be alright to go during dry season. To bring your own raincoats and slippers if you don’t want to buy there. But the slippers are cheap, 20k per pair. Need to get entrance fees and the guide you need to pay too about 100k
MoreMadakaripura...I never heard this name before. Never knew its pict, nor imagined this beauty...it was like I found heaven on earth. Indiscribable beauty and feeling...I was mesmerized, found no right word to describe it. It is a must visit place for everyone who strong enough to walk 2 kilometers on slippery road in the freezing rain and warning sign along the way. Prepared a rain coat for you and your cell phone, and dont forget to wear sandal because you will have to walk through the river and waterfall.
MoreSimply AWESOME!!!! Please be noted to bring a raincoat because you have to go through the waterfalls to get inside and the track not too hard so, its reachable.. it is better if you use a tracker sandals.. also you need to ride ojek/motorcycle shareride from parking lot to entrance gate and hire a guide after the entrance gate..
MoreNot the waterfall I was expecting. Water falls off from a U-shaped cliff so it feels like you are surrounded by falling water. Very scenic and definitely worth a visit. Be prepared to get really wet as you have to trudge through streams and under waterfalls to get to the final destination.
MoreBeautiful and powerful Madakaripura waterfall is the biggest waterfall in East Java. The water has cascades from the dense forest above. You need to go 20 minutes and climb the cliffs before you can see the main waterfall. But the stunning glory of rumbling water going down from the cliff is worth the effort for sure and it is really majestic and ruthless. The gorge around highlights the power of falling water. The place looks mysterious and dangerous, and it is so #waterfall #madakaripurawaterfall #mysterious #beauty #magical #greenary🌳 #majestic #surabaya #shorttrip #travel #friends #enjoylifetothefullest💯
MoreStunning waterfall. Be prepared to get wet on the way to the waterfall. Don’t wonder why they try to sell you raincoats/slippers right at the entrance: you need a waterproof jacket, swimshorts and Flipflops to enter, if you don’t want to get wet from top to toe.
MoreA lot of history & story at this famous waterfall . Remember to wear rain coat and short pant if you want to explore and experiencing the cool fresh river water 🚿 of the waterfall
MoreA short motorbike ride is require to get to the entrance of the waterfall. Fr there the walk in is about 1km on flat terrain. The waterfall here was tall! We did not expect the view to be great, so it came as a surprise. U’ll definitely get really wet trying to capture all the nice shots.
MoreYou can visit this waterfall on your way to bromo. To enjoy this place, you’ll need half day. This can be done prior or post your visit to Mount Bromo. From the parking lot to the waterfall, you need motorbike ride from the locals and 20 min walk after. Rainy season is not recommended since it can get really slippery. The view is simply stunning, worth the effort. It’s known as one of the highest waterfall in Indonesia (2nd place if im not mistaken). A good sandals, shorts, and rain coat are recommended. Please dont bring too many stuff with you.
MoreReally breathtaking! Though be ready to get wet as you need to walk under the water fall. Best would be to carry rain gear and also some protective casing for phone, wallet, etc. You will reach the carpark after which some local guides will take you to the falls by bike. After the bike ride, there is a ~2km walk to the falls. Also ensure youre wearing slippers. There are locals selling slippers and ponchos outside. They will definitely try to charge foreigners a higher price so beware!
MoreReally really beautiful, never saw such great waterfalls! The best spot of Java, very much recommend! And yes, you do need a poncho/raincoat because you really get wet!
MoreOne of the greatest waterfall to enjoy!!Located near the city of probolinggo makes it not too far from the main road, it approxinately takes 45 minutes from the legendary "rawon nguling" Restaurant. The access road is quite small, only enough for 2 cars. If you using car, you are not allowed to go straight to the main gate, you must park in parking lot made by local people and it still around 3-4 km away. You can choose to walk or pay 10k for riding the bike. I recommend you to just pay for it, not worth walking in middle of nowhere. Dont forget to bring your own rain coat, dry clothes, non slippery sandals, etc. Just prepare to get wet, rainfall rate there is big and the waterfall must make you wet also.Once you get the main gate, pay the entrance fee and you must walk about 2 km to the main site. Beautiful river will accompany you along the sidewalk. Madakaripura sites consists of several waterfall you can enjoy. They forms a water layer around the edge of cliff which very nice to take picture underneath it. As i said, it is one of the most beautiful waterfall Ive ever seen. You just need to see it by yourself to know what I mean.It is strongly recommended to visit it only in dry season. Doesnt mean it bad when rainy season, but it has brownish water if rain fall comes.Visit madakaripura !!
MoreVery beautiful waterfall area.We were lost at first. If you go through a hell and bumpy ride to the waterfall, u might have lost. Stop the car and ask the local the correct direction which the ride is smoother and not bumpy at all.You need to park your car at the parking spot and take a bike ride provided by the local by paying IDR 10,000 one way per person. You will need to pay for the entrance fee too. If you are not Indonesia’s Nationality, you need to pay ~IDR 26,000 per person (~IDR 16,000 for Indonesian if im not mistaken)When I arrived at the parking spot, Pak Asuman (Uncle Asumanassisted us to take Go-Jek (Motorcycle ride to the entrance of waterfall entranceand offer to give us a tour. The parking spot and the entrance is very far. So it is worth to take the motor ride (5 minutes ride). Then you have to walk around 20-30 minutes from the entrance to the waterfall. The foot walk is slippery. Be very careful with your steps. Do not wear a shoe that you do not want to get wet because you will definitely get wet. Try to bring a sandal//flippers/flip-flop.Another thing, if you have a rain jacket, please bring along. As you will walk under the waterfall. You will save from buying a cheap quality Poncho and save a plastic usage too. Please wear a short or quick-dry apparels.Pak Asuman has been very helpful and thoughtful. I didn’t mind paying him ~IDR150,000 for two of us. I would have paid him more if I have extra money though.
MoreThis waterfall is one of its kind..Nestled in green valley hidden from civilization..One has to watch out for sliding rocks and ones step (only at the final waterfall pointsince getting to the last point is bit risky and senior citizens and physically disabled persons may find it difficult in getting there..prior It has a trek of around 1.5 kms over a nicely constructed path ,locals sell cheap water restsitant overcoats since the route passes under other waterfalls along the way which can get you wet..The last waterfall is a beauty to behold..Falling gracefully from around 200m and the cave in between gives it a mystical feeling ..
MoreTL;DR: dont get a local guide, dont tip, or youll be feeding an aggressive mafia. But do go, its beautiful. The place is super beautiful. Very worthwhile the short hike. But be advised, theres a mafia of "local guides" and motorbike-taxi that can ruin the experience. Local guides are unneeded, and will charge you 100k upfront and will try to get more money asking for tips aggressively or saying that the price was higher. We were proposed local guides like 10 times. Just ignore them and if they start following you, tell them you are not going to pay them. The path the motorbikes take you through is a short one, very walkable and I personally think its nice. Motorbike will be faster if you are short on time. They were 10k rupees per traject, so 20k return. When returning, my driver said that because Im fat, it was double the price, and tried to get tips very aggressively. You need to pay a 21k rupees entrance fee but that looked official and they refused to cooperate with the mafia by giving you change.
MoreAwesome place to experience! Its around a half hour walk to the entrance, so if you enjoy walking there is no need to take a scooter. A guide is not really needed as its pretty straightforward. Walking in flip-flops is also fine, but be a bit careful in the water. The water is refreshing and adds up to the whole experience. After all, its really awesome.
MoreCome prepared to be drenched. But it is an enjoyable experience walking through the waterfall. Great place to take pictures and experience the waterfall.
MoreAmazing scenery!!!We go to this waterfall as a short stop before going to Bromo.Do bring your raincoat as you will walk under the waterfall.
MoreBeautiful waterfalls. It is the highest waterfall in entire java island and it has rich historical background. I recommend to visit here early in the morning before other visitors come.
MoreThe waterfall is awesome. Track is good. But, the management is poor. Have to take shuttle motorcycle to get to tickets desk, then have to walk to the main start path. Actually we can ride to the main start path by our own vehicle, but we cant by that management.
MoreMagnificent place. Need to hire “ojek” to the main entrance. Prepare some rain cover, gopro or phone waterproof cases.
MoreThis waterfall has a unique natural contours, high cliffs oval and then there are several waterfalls in the vicinity. Here is fun, you can pass under the waterfall, when it first came. Then you can proceed to the main waterfall which has a very deep water container underneath. You can swim too, but be sure to be careful. Madakaripura waterfall is a waterfall that has an easy track and can be practically safe. You should try to come here, and enjoy the holiday.ig: ifanxbima#MalangLocalGuide
MoreGreat place for an easy trek. You can drive to the base, take a motorcycle ride to the beginning of the trekking route (IDR 15.000 1 way), then hike to the waterfalls. Make sure you bring a raincoat and waterproofing equipment since you will get wet!
