Ahi Sushi and Sake Bar - Sushi restaurant in Grants Pass, United States
We used to eat here once a week and now.....The seafood is usually good. We loved the sushi until they decided to change it.............UPDATE: Been back a few times again and I am happy to update my review! They are back to all their glory. Food is good & service is good. There is a pretty good selection of menu items and a full bar.It is really nice to have our favorite sushi place back!
Had my doubts, when one among us Portlanders insisted on finding sushi for lunch on a long road trip back from CA. Some of the best sushi Ive ever had at this price point and in a casual place. Lots of accessible choices, lots of interesting ones, knowledgable serving staff. Everything we ordered was better than expected. Wonderful service as well. Cant recommend it highly enough.
Today I ordered 5 rolls and I have to say I’ve found my new favorite sushi place. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because I specified no spicy mayo on any of my rolls because of a food allergy and they still put it on my Rogue roll but next time I’ll make sure I check my food but other than that I loved it.
Tried this location for the first time and absolutely LOVED it! The jalapeno poppers with the spicy tuna was delicious! Also a big big fan of the tempura shrimp and miso soup! Will absolutely be coming back here every time we want sushi! 10/10 recommend!
Excellent food. Service was a little scattered but smiles and kindness were present. The baked pearl was tasty, not something I have ever had before.
Good food, nice staff, pretty dining room, good price. Loved it!
They seem earnest but were having challenges when I visited. It was dinner time on Saturday and theyd already run out of sushi rice and most of the fish on the specials menu. The scallop special was nicely presented and the fresh salmon was good. None of the rest of the fish was noteworthy in any way.I liked the sake selection (not extensive but some good choicesand appreciate that they have the smaller single serve bottles in case not everyone in your group is into it.The gyōza was actually more of a fried wonton than a steamed dumpling. Some of our order didnt arrive we had to ask to have it taken off the bill.Maybe youll have better luck when you go but they seemed to be struggling a bit when we visited. For the price, it was a disappointment.
I’m afraid this won’t be our sushi place in Grants Pass. My pet peeve with all restaurants is when a menu describes a dish as having crab, but it is actually served with imitation Krab. Krab with a K is not crab. It is cheap fish. So when a roll says that it is made with Dungeness crab and is served with Krab? I am so deeply disappointed. To me it is like ordering steak and getting hamburger. People were nice and service great, but I hate Krab and the menu should say ‘imitation crab’.
So good i could eat it every day. Prices are competitive. Fresh fish market also.
All the food was so fresh and delicious! The baked caterpillar roll was my favorite!
I was going to take a picture at the start but once we tasted the food we couldn’t stop. Their house made salad dressing was top notch. We had the following: Carlsbad, Black Widow, The Dungeness, Merry Go Round, and California Rolls. Rachel (our serverwas very attentive and answered all our questions and we had many. We had house Hot Sake which was really good and let’s not forget their house made soy sauce was really good. Atmosphere was like a coffee shop and that’s the only reason we didn’t give a 5 star.
Quite literally the BEST sushi Ive had in my life!!! The rolls are tight and the rice to filling ratio was superb. Just one bite after another of pure heaven! G St sushi lost a customer with this place. Worth it!!
Great food. Great experience!
Really great, lowkey place. Food was perfect and served quickly. The waitress was very friendly too. Would recommend paying this place a visit if your looking for good sushi.
Fantastic. Amazing collection of flavors. Great service. This is a MUST. Go now! 😁
Wonderful staff, a little slow service but thats okay because the two waitresses were also tending the bar. So I appreciate their dedication and effort. The food was absolutely amazing, the sashimi combo is so fresh and delicious! I definitely recommend
Obviously the food was great. We ate all of it. And the cocktails are amazing. Best Old Fashion Ive had.
Great fresh sushi! Staff is friendly and well trained. Atmosphere is nice with a relaxed vibe. Perfect place to visit if you are staying at the Lodge.
Absolutely best and freshest sushi Ive had in quite awhile. Had a bit of a wait for the food but definitely worth it! Very reasonably priced. Attentive waitress was friendly and personable. New favorite place for dinner in Grants Pass!!! See everyone soon
First time here and LOVE it! Had help understanding what some of their choices were, and everyone was sweet and cheerful. Prices arent bad. Great date night! Thank you! We WILL be back.
a simple choice for our dinner based on reviews and location near or hotel. Not too busy early on this night. Our server was very well versed on the menu & specials. Started with the edamame, simple and tasty. Wife doesn’t eat sushi but loves a good teriyaki chicken yakitori. This unfortunately wasn’t that. Undercooked to her taste and really lacking in any flavor. Just bland. To go with she chose another item from the app menu, the shrimp tempura. This was very well done. Not oily and lightly breaded they were delicious. Far better than the yakitori. My meal was outstanding. Chose the Carlsbad Roll and 2 pc Unagi Nigri. The Unagi was just great. Smoky eel topped with the wonderfully sweet sauce that is traditional for the dish. Loved it. And as much I enjoyed that the Carlsbad roll was even better. Shrimp tempura roll with avocado, Dungeness crab salad, topped with tuna & salmon, then drizzled with unagi sauce and spicy mayo. WOW! So tasty. Rice texture was spot on and the flavors melded perfectly. Couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Recommended for the sushi.
Pretty bad sushi low quality. You walk in and there is an all white staff with tweaker waiter to boot. Too much onion in the miso too much large chunks of garlic in the edamame, FAKE CRAB and it says dungenes on the menu. Seared not baked rolls. Its just really low quality. The cuts of fish were pretty good and the people were nice but dont eat here just go get a roll at Safeway and save your money same quality
Great servers, & the Mongolian beef was actually what youd expect! I was very happy to see it had crispy rice noodles & green onion shoots. Now, the sushi on the other hand was disappointing hence the 3 star review Ive given. I liked the ambiance but we ordered all of the deep fried sushi choices & none were great.
My food has been wonderful everytime I have been here. 🙏🏼
An amazing find. While working in Grants my wife and I decided to try Ahi Sushi. Place was very friendly and attentive. Staff was in a great mood. And despite being slightly understaffed food came out quickly and was photo worthy. Extremely fresh.Would definitely recommend and this is now my Grants Pass stop for sushi.
As someone who has spent some years in Japan and married a Japanese woman, I would have to say the sushi was quite good and fresh.Service was prompt and friendly. Will definitely eat here again!
If I could give a negative star I would. Ordered what I normally order, a Zen roll with lemon and extra of the sweet brown sauce whatever that’s called. This is the fifth time I’ve ordered from this establishment. The first two were fantastic. But the past three were less than satisfactory. The last one was inedible. I’m not sure when they decided to put rotten avocado on the top and mushy, fishy smelling fish. I returned my roll to Donnell, the owner of the establishment. Ask her if she would eat it, she didn’t respond but turned and walked away. She offered me a gift certificate and I declined. It’s been 2 1/2 weeks and I have still yet to receive all of my money back. She lied to me and said that she had called the credit card company. I know she didn’t because they needed the last four of my credit card number to process a refund. Checked With my bank and they refunded the purchase price but not the tip. Not once has she ever apologized for lack of customer service or disgusting food. I am all for supporting small businesses just not this one.
Ive been here once, so Im open to the possibility that my experience was a fluke, but I did order seven different rolls and none of them were that great. I wont say it was bad, but Ive definitely had better sushi. Sushi is always expensive, but Id say that what I got at Ahi was comparable, price-wise, to a middle-of-the-road belt-style restaurant.I like that their menu is large and has pretty good variety. Some of their rolls were unique, like putting lemon slices in sushi. But I ended up taking those off of mine because, despite their delicately small size, the pieces of lemon overwhelmed all of the other flavors. The rice was meh and most of the rolls I got tasted more or less the same. I liked the yellowtail, though the green onions in the roll were a little too strong. For the $80 (including a sizable Covid takeout tipI spent, I just didnt get a good experience. The food is not bad, and maybe I just got the wrong items, but it wasnt what I expected.
Celebrating the reopening of restaurant...this was a great place to start. The sake cocktails were fantastic!! Must try. The oysters were good...at 3/$9 we probably wouldn’t get them again. The rolls were wonderful. The two deep fried were a bit pricier with less pieces. We still want to try the black widow. They also had specials that looked great. The mochi was ok...I prefer just the ice cream. We will be back! Cheers 🍻
Called in an order to go, fairly simple, two rolls and a teriyaki beef. They said 45min to an hour. Cool I get that. I showed up 55 minutes later and my order hadn’t even been started, if I had to guess by the reaction to the staff when I walked in, it was completely forgotten. All of this would be fine if when I got there they hurried to get on it, but they continued to make other orders and left me standing there for 15 minutes before I walked out.
My go-to for sushi in G.P., and Southern Oregon, great sushi, great service!
Togo order was okay. Nothing special. Noodles were so salty and oily like I’ve never had. Very high priced food. The sushi was okay. Hopefully it was just an off day for this restaurant because the other reviews sound great. We will try again eventually.
Best sushi in town.I used to live in Seattle, and was disappointed with the sushi in this area. I even tried a few places in Ashland and Medford. Because I NEEDED to find good sushi! But nothing satisfied my high standards. Then I tried Ahi. They have big city quality, for a small town price. What a deal! Highly recommend their Baked Pearl.
My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE coming here to get sushi! The California roll is the best I’ve ever had. Every time we come here the staff is very friendly, the sushi is out of this world good, and we always have a great experience. The quality of the sushi is excellent as well! Ahi is easily my favorite restaurant in Grants Pass, and I highly recommend eating here if you haven’t already! 😀😀
My family and I are at Ahi last night and the experience was amazing! It is in my opinion, the very best sushi place in southern Oregon. We had 4 moody, very picky eating teenagers, eat all the sushi and then enjoy the dessert moshi?icecream...everything was amazing and we will definitely be going back!!!Olivia was our server and did a stellar job!!!
Yum!! Havent had sushi in a long time so it was good to break the spell with such good food. Our chef was pleasant and chatted when not busy. He posed for a picture but his hands were so quick that only a few shots were clear enough to post.We had 2 Rogue rolls with the habanero aioli and the Baked Lobster. The rolls were fresh and tended to come apart when eaten with chop sticks but made us laugh. Fun place suitable for family. We will return.
I just had the best sushi Ive ever had in Oregon.
Never been here till today and OMG! Was the best sushi ive ever had! Amazing service. Rachael was awesome. They make the food in front of you. Talk to you. Extremely fun and great place to meet with friends and enjoy good food, good music, good environment.
Over priced for the quality of food. I expect beautiful food for top money. Service is horrible! Wait staff is overwhelmed by complaints about food coming out in a timely manner as well as together. The sushi chefs talk more than work and ,in my opinion, the reason for such chaos. Everyone blames the kitchen when the food from there was on time and good. Ask lots of questions and clarify what you order so you are not overcharged. They are not flexible at all on their sashimi combo even though they suggest adding more expensive cuts then charge full price per fish. I felt robbed and unimpressed. Giving 3 stars for the kitchen staff.
Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Never disappointed coming here. The menu has been completely redone, along with new sushi chefs. You’re not gonna find better quality fish anywhere else. I will keep coming back!
Ive been to Ahi several times and am always impressed by the service and the sushi. 😊
Good food great people. Tomi is one of the best. The entire crew has an awesome personality and easy to get along with.
This place is the bomb.gov. one of the better sushi joints Ive ever been to, and Ive been to a LOT of sushi joints.
Surprisingly good sushi place in a little small town. Baked mussels was great with a surprising garnish on top. Sushi was relatively and reasonably fresh consider its geographical location. Service and ambience was an improvement over the previous ownership. Hope this place stay in business for a while. We come out here once a year.
Went here with my family. Quickly seated and they took our order. We ordered three roles and two plates. The soup was pretty good, but Im not the biggest fan of it. About a 20 minute wait before we got our food but there was a big party before us. I got the Dungeness roll, it was really good and tasted fresh. The waitress was very nice and always checking on us and keep us up to date with timing. Would recommend.
Service was interesting for the first time of being here. It was lunchtime and the waitress told us that itll be 15 mins or longer for our food because they are behind from last night. Huh? The food came out and looked good and tasted okay. I know this place is new in town, and I hope to give it another shot. The experience was all very interesting.
First off Ive only been here once. Having said that they messed up my order but rectified it and they were friendly and courteous. The sashimi salmon was a tad off and the octopus was chewy. Btw octopus should be worked a lot before cooking and serving. Besides that its your typical sushi restaurant in southern Oregon.
My husband and I came here for our anniversary. The staff was prompt and well mannered. The specialty rolls looked good but werent for everyone if youre not in the mood for jalapeño or tempura style. The rolls were good but not mind bogglingly delicious. May or may not come back.
This was our first time in and we had 3 rolls the volcano, golden dragon and crunchy tiger hidden dragon. Only complaint it I wish the volcano was spicier. Over all fantastic food.
Awesome little sushi joint in Grants Pass. Hubby and I stayed the night in GP and searched for a dinner spot for the night. This place was great! Service was super friendly and sushi was delish! We got the Hamachi Lover and Crispy Dragon Special rolls, friend tempura and hot house sake. For a quick sit down bite Id recommend this place 😁
