Famous for having distinctive blue water, these grand waterfalls are a popular site for visitors.
Beautiful, just jump in
Road was a little long but worth every mile.Dont miss it and climb all the way up, dont forget to bring your swimming suit.
Tourist trap... Scenic spot is ruined by the endless strip of souvenir stalls. Go for Mishol - ha for a waterfall and a swim.
The usual assortment of tourist ripoff stands, the falls are truely amazing, and its even possible to swim there.
Beautiful waterfalls!!We did camping all the way up in the jungle side of the river.
Beautiful waterfall. It had just rained so the water wasnt as blue as was expected. Be prepared to pay two entrance fees to get in.
Beautiful falls. Can be crowded. Many craft and food stalls but these dont impinge on the falls and offer an opportunity to endulge in some craft shopping or sampling traditional foods.
Great waterfalls in the jungle . You can swim there and its easy to get by your own from Palenque by colectivo . It cost 50mex and drops you around 3km from waterfalls . Local taxis for 25mex will take you to the falls and its great walk around . There are lots of restaurants along the path ,which is kinda distrubing the view ,but its good food and refreshments.
Great views... A bit too touristy
Really nice place.Lots of restaurant to pick from.Food is decent bathroom not so much, make sure to bring coins cuz it cost 5 pesos to use the facilities.Poor cellphone signal, some restaurants provide WiFi if you eat there.
Very disappointing waterfalls. Maybe if the water was blue like all the tour operators say it would be better? But it was just a brown stream with broad and not to high waterfalls. Also a lot of stands with souvenirs. Please are friendly though.
Plan to stay for a meal, there are many restaurante and food vendors to choose from...top to bottom trails are well worth walking.
Went with a tour group that included individuals from Juarez, MX, Odessa, TX, & El Paso, TX booked through Playacar Travel Agency in Juarez & flew AeroMexico. Agua Azul waterfalls was just one of the attractions on this trip. It was a lot of walking to see all but very worthwhile. The mountains, river, trails, & green trees/foliage where AWSOME.
The falls are just about picture perfect. However, its very commercialized. Theres a fee (that only tourists in rental cars have to pay!?to enter the town and there are tons of vendors all along the falls. Even the people who point to where youre already about to jump in and tells you its ok, want to be paid (they ask politely and are very friendly though). Definitely worth a visit, but its a good idea to be prepared.
Its really cool waterfall. It is better to come in the evening, then there are fewer souvenir sellers, you will quickly go to the waterfall itself.
Wauw. This place is highly recommended. Its a lot of fun swimming upstream the waterfalls and the beauty of this place is hard to put in words. This is a must see!!
Very good trip for nature, entrance 30pesos, next to it is a popular bridge.
Nice waterfall surounded by way to many souvenir shop. You can walk upstream to see more of it. Its 2h from palenque, the road and landscapes are actually really nice. Dont go there for the only purpose of going there. Do a trip or stop on your way to san Cristóbal or vice vera.Explanation: ⭐Interest: ⭐⭐⭐Accessibility: ⭐⭐Price: 💰💰
Amazing waterfall. Make sure you explore it all by waking all the way up.There are stops where you can swim. Also plenty of vendors for food and presents.I highly recommend you do your gift shopping there (or from the vendors at Palenque ruins). The prices are the cheapest we have seen in Mexico so far!!Also you can haggle.
Definitely worth the drive. Tons of places to eat and drink. Lots of places to shop. Bathrooms might be a bit dirty.
Amazing waterfalls. Too bad the water was green/blue tough to the rainwater. (Because of the rain seasonBut overall a sight to behold!
5 stars and a Wow. Worth the horrible bus ride. There are many places to eat. You can swim in a small area of the waterfalls. There are several stalls that sell t shirts and other mementos
Simply beautiful. Hike up a bit and you will be rewarded with a great place to swim.
Beautiful naturals waterfalls hiking trails to the top a lot of vending stands with many traditional and cultural merchandise, the color of the water is unique beautiful green...
Beautiful watercascades, possibillity to swim, eat, drink and shop some touriststuff. Some of the toilettefacilities are clean...
Excellent gift from mother nature. Be prepared to swim and take with you change to buy coconut, lima, orange water. Also cane sugar and cocoa from local vendors. Great scenario.
If you walk 15-20mins up, theres another place you can swim. Where the water is flowing down so you arent swimming in the residual water ar the bottom.I saw some local people washing their clothes in soap and detergent in the water. Wished they didnt do that.
We visited 14 November. Impressive waterfall, but since it rained the day before the water was brown. It was a bit of a stressful experience for us. We had to buy tickets twice, which feels like a scam. Although not that expenive (40 + 25), still feels strange. We drove from Palenque by car 1,5h single trip. We heard the road should be safe during the day. We did encounter several people/kids with ropes over the road. They want to sell something or want money. We didnt give anything but some really insist. So overall beautiful but stressful experience.
It had rained a lot and changed the color of the water but it was extremely beautiful
Really beautiful! Make sure to walk all the way up the Falls to the swimming area. Some safe swimming pools and ropes.
beautiful waterfall with clear, transparent water. a lot of shops and people who want to sell something. two tickets must be purchased when entering the park. one for 40 pesos the other for 25 pesos
It supposed to be crystal blue water, instead the waterfalls were muddy even though the weather was nice without rain, but it is said that it is enough for it to rain the day before and the water will turn muddy. Overall it was okey half day day trip from Palenque city.
This place is so beautiful, but i think i came here in the wrong time because the water is not blue and murky.Be ready with some street seller and children who come to you and force you to buy their stuffs. And those kids come to you asking money and in my case they asked me to give them my snacks, I have no problem to share my food. Theres no respect of covid-19, they came to me very close, getting in their face through my car window. I didnt feel comfortable when were swimming there. Well maybe it wasnt my day.
Not much as far as infrastructure - as soon as we open the car door, got mobbed by all kinds of vendors and people asking for money. We literally just walked up to the main look out point, took a picture and left. It is sad this beautiful place is absolutely neglected. We also got mugged by people at several made-shift stops on the way there, where we had to give money in order to be allowed to continue. Those same people stopped us on the way back and had to give money again to all of them in order to let us through.
A must see location in Chiapas. Walk up to the upper sections of the falls for the best swimming opportunities. Watch out for the people walking around the parking lot selling goods because they are extremely aggressive and will not leave you alone. The further you get away from the main area, the better.
Love the place!! There are many food stalls but they are not pushy. Try to walk further than the main mirador and it gets pretty local and really nice for swimming.
Its unquestionably beautiful but, Jesus Christ, the poor people trying to sell you stuff make the whole experience almost unbearable. I know its how locals make a living and I want to support them somehow, but at some point it becomes really annoying. Be psychologically prepared to say "no, gracias" a 1000 times.
One of the places that I saw in Chaipas. It is a piece of heaven there. A lot of places where ylg can get Tacos, beautiful shops around to buy souvenirs... The water is clean and beautiful. A place worth to visit. Try to visit the place is spring season.
Although due to the CV19 concerns the place was basically a ghost town the few people open were friendly and respectful. The falls are truly worth the drive. The water was clear and cool. Reminder of the hidden beautys in this world if you know where to go.
Agua Azul is an impressive stream of waterfalls that simply takes your breath away. But as it sometimes goes with these unbelievably beautiful natural spots, tourism was rather hard on this place and it’s already taking its toll. I’m not sure if the indigenous people selling overpriced souvenirs there are native to this land or not, but it’s somewhat sad seeing them commodifying the nature. No matter how beautiful certain places are, tourism can change them forever. This is a good example. It’s still worth visiting, but if you are in a good physical condition, I recommend that you hike all the way up where the crowds and restaurants no longer reach. You might enjoy some peace and nature there.
Did not want to go and espite my reservations with sales people all the way up the mountain, the place is kept clean, the local people who are selling everything from crafts, to art, fruits and toilets and still gentle. The Cascades are beautiful and the three or four swimming holes a welcome relief after the bus ride from whether you can.
Lovely spot with lots of photo opportunities as long as you look towards the water, not to the non-stop stream of other exhortations to part with your money. However, in view of recent heavy rainfall, "azul" is the last colour youd use to describe the water!
What a great placeWith some hesitation we took the guided tour and had an amazing time. With out the guided tour you will miss 90% of the place. Our guide Misael was amazing. He was always on top of the group. The tour limit was 6 people and 2 more people tried to join our tour and he did not take them.Again what a great place
Very nice place. You can go there from Palenque. Take a car or some travel agency p.e. Tulum. You can swim in few nice places and buy very nice and cheap souvenirs. Fully recomendet. Is on the way to San Cristobal.
It doesn’t matter that this place is “touristy” because it is worth the visit, obligatory. This place is beautiful and will leave you amazed. Also, lots of restaurants, cheap fruit and trinkets.
If you are in Chiapas visit this place!! It is a little paradise! But I would suggest if possible to go alone because touristic tours usually come with a visit to Palenque so they rush you. Bring a swimsuit and a towel and enjoy the blue-green waters!
Magnificent. Took us 3 hours to get here to avoid protests on the main roads so a convoy of about 8 buses headed off to remote parts to get here. Well worth it.Apart from seeing true Mayan territory on the way the landscape was gorgeous. The cascades are the most beautiful azure and don’t be lured into the first pool. There are several as you walk uphill each with its own uniqueness. There is a ‘lifeguard’ on duty with a whistle and flotation ring on a rope. Yes it’s trivial but some of he younger men were pushing the boundaries through the rapids. There are plenty of changing rooms and toilets along the way as well as stall holders with souvenirs and refreshments.Water temperature was brisk but within 20 seconds was so refreshing you can’t get out. Bottom is clear and mostly white sand. No creepy crawlies in these waters.Wheelchair friendly until you want to go uphill then it isn’t. Kid friendly. No wifi. There is another set of falls nearby which I’d also recommend doing on the same trip.
The Cascadas de Agua Azul (Spanish for "Blue-water Falls"are a series of waterfalls found on the Xanil River in the Chiapas, Mexico. They are located in the Municipality of Tumbalá, 69 kilometers from Palenque, near Mexican Federal Highway 199.These waterfalls consists of many cataracts following one after another, taken from near the top of the sequence of cascades. The larger cataracts may be as high as 6 meters (20 feetor so. During much of the distance the water descends in two streams, with small islands in the middle. The water has a high content of calcium carbonate and other minerals, and where it falls on rocks or fallen trees it encases them in a thick shell-like coating of limestone[2].Local residents reportedly restored the waterfalls[3] after the 2017 Chiapas earthquake changed the course of the river and led to a temporary reduction of the water flow over the falls. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Walked 40 minutes up to their restoration area affected by Sept 2017 earthquake! The water comes back slowly, hopefully will be back to its beauty soon. There is very basic cabanas which allow you stay overnight here, 2 queen beds with private bathroom, dont expect any other amenities okay!!! It cost us 350 pesos, probably will be much more affordable if you speak Spanish 😍🤔 be very careful with tourism trap thought....
Great place. It is very nice not only because of nice pictures. You can also experience light blue water by yourself :). There is occasion for hiking along the river to see more views on this place. Local people are very nice and the souvenirs they offer (huge variety of different stuffare in good prices. It is good to visit this place by colectivo on a way Palenque <-> San Cristobal de las casas. For sure worth visiting!
