Gabbema Doordrift St, Paarl, 7646, South Africa, Noorder-Paarl
Obelisks on a hill commemorating Afrikaans’ designation as an official language, with views.
A pleasant surprise - the symbolism of the monument is incredible. There is also a few things to do on the property, including a coffee shop, walking routes and play areas for kids. Entrance for adults is R40 per person.
This is a good place to visit when you are in the area. They also have a small shop and a restaurant with good food. Lots of flora to see
Awesome place to go have a relaxing picnic and learn something about the monument.
Amazing experience. There is also a super nice coffee shop with a great view.
Perhaps would have been a more interesting experience if we had taken a picnic to enjoy in the garden. The views were nice. The monument is an interesting architectural piece, but if the history is not interesting to you, I dont think it is necessary to make it a stop on your tour.
Great venue. I was told the coffee was good, and it was. But most hot drinks including the coffee were served luke warm. The venison pies had great filling but the pastry was like leather unfortunately. Please change that! And they had to be sent back to be warmed up too. I mean this as helpful feedback.
Had a good time strolling around the monument.
My 1st outing out to the Taal Monument. Beautiful views. Simply loved it
Enjoyable experience. Cafeteria clean and well run. Good coffee. Grounds are spotless and well maintained. Large grassed area for children to play on or picnic.
What an amazing monument. Its so peacefull up there....
Simply stunning. Very impressive cultural experience. Proud to be Afrikaans. n Moet sien!
Best boerie bun and view over CT
Lovely architecture worth admiring! Sadly wouldnt recommend the restaurant though - service was terrible.
Awesome experience, the museum, the gardens and finally the restaurant, talk about value for your money! Breakfast all day, and after we were given each a complimentary slice of chocolate cake(my favouritr)& Charmaine had the carrot 🥕 cake.
We decided to have a late lunch at the restaurant at the Monument. The service was good and the food was excellent. I had the chicken pie which turned out to be quite a portion and my wife had the Chicken Schnitzel which she enjoyed and could not finish. They do not serve any alcohol at present but you are welcome to bring your own with no corkage fee charged.Really nice place and the view is amazing.
To be honest, i went in with my toddler on a Saturday morning whilst Mum was studying, not knowing what to expect at all. We both loved the experience, the setting and the ultra clean and well maintained facility. The Monument itself was truly impressive, and we even managed a kid friendly walking trail before setting down in the picnic area for some snacks and refreshments. He loved both the play areas, and was thrilled to have his first swing on a full sized, giant set of sturdy well positioned swings that gave him dreams of being an astronaut. All things considered, theres no better way to spend 40 bucks with a toddler and a picnic basket when you both just need to get some fresh air on a day off! Will be back soon for that Wood Fired Pizza!!😋
Nice monument for the Afrikaans Language. Beautiful views over Paarl and surrounding mountains
There is a beautiful panorama view from this place. Entireness fee R 40 per adult. There is a cafe inside, walking and picnic area. This place was a good addition to our short Sunday trip.So it can a be a good plan:Fairview WineryAfrikaans Language MonumentAlpacas Loom CoffeeshopAll this place are closed if you have a car.
It is a nice place for those that enjoy a little history and want to learn more about the Afrikaans language and the monument that has been constructed to commemorate the recognition of Afrikaans language. Place is well maintained and it has a nice open picnic spot and restaurant.
Beautifully kept up. Vistas are amazing
Oh man i really love this whole quit n peaceful place wish i will be there for 1 more time 😌😌😌
We went there for a Star Gazing Picnic on 29 January 2022 and it was awesome!People from all over Cape Town area came to enjoy the evening, take in the beautiful sights of the monument;surrounding gardens and beautiful scenery, and of course the star-filled night sky.Thank you to the Orion Observation Group members who let us have a close-up look at the stars through their telescopes.I recommend a visit here to anyone,it is the little bit of money for the entrance fee very well spent.
Lovely area to visit Lovely views...building itself amazing very clean and well maintained, restaurant also good for snack..☆☆☆☆
Monumental experience is the only way to describe such a beautiful landmark. Afrikaners can be proud of all their achievements and infrastructure that they built through the years that we are still using and abusing. Lovely experience would definitely highly recommend this place to anyone.
Beautiful, clean and tidy with picnic spots, hiking trails, small restuarant and play areas.Very enjoyable day out with the family.
Beautiful, views and relaxing atmosphere at this historic monument. The coffee shop under new management serves a variety of meals. Worth a visit.
Paid entrance. Nice monument with lovely views. The water echos through the monument. Nice spot to have a picnic too.
I loved It very interesting facts about the place and very beautiful views of the mountains from there. I would love to go there again any time
What a wonderful experience it was with your loved ones, to just be relaxed and hear children voices of laugh and laughter. Well organized and friendly staff. Thank you for an amazing Moonlight Picnic. Blessings
Thank you for keeping the grounds in a great condition. We had a lovely time and will definitely bring a picnic basket on our next visit!
Once again Gods art in action with the fullmoon rising over the beautiful Paarl viewed from Paarlberg
Place is very neat, beautiful gardens. Interesting to visit but dont think it is worth the entry fee and due to the fact that the restaurant was close and you could not even buy something to drink at information centre
Neat, clean, bring your own food and drinks if you want to picnic.
What a pleasure to visit this imposing monument dedicated to the Afrikaans language. The structure and gardens are kept in immaculate condition. As a native Afrikaans speaker, I felt both proud and humbled by this majestic monument.
The heart and soul of Paarl. This gorgeous monument is not only rich with history, but holds one of the most gorgeous views in the Western Cape. Atop the Taalmonument you can see from Table Mountain to Ceres
This became another place of privilege.Access to the monument for locals also come at a cost, how sad is that.Lets relook at how we can introduce our children to this historical monument without exploiting them financially.Enjoy.Please follow and thumbs upAj
What a delightful place this is. Nestled just above and outside the town of Paarl, this place is indeed a little gem. The R40 entrance fee is definitely well worth it. Besides the beautifully constructed and large monument, visible for dozens of kilometres in all directions from Paarl, the stunning rolling lawn and impressive trees, bushes and flowers will make your visit one you wont soon forget. A quick word about the staff: They are very friendly and helpful. There is also ample parking available.
Absolutely beautiful. There is a fee involved with visiting, however its well worth the price. The prices are for adults between R40 - R50 per adult. Its truly refreshing looking at the lavish scenery and the monument such a good reminder of one of South African languages. I will recommend it to anyone, couples, families, individuals who enjoys lovely green grass and big trees providing generously for those wanting to spend sometime in the shade. Great place to spend the day out or picnic on the grass and visiting the memorial monument. Safe and securely managed the welcoming any guests. The views are just simply beautiful. Do visit if out in Paarl or if just passing by. You sure to enjoy the experience.
In all the years I have gone to Paarl, this is my first visit to the monument. Its just a structure reaching to the sky but the whole structure is symbolic of the Afrikaans language and its origins. The staff are friendly and gave us a bit of background to it. The place is well maintained, clean and it has lovely indigenous plants growing around the area. Its educational for the kids. There were two food caravans selling snacks, coffee etc..
The most amazing views. The monument is an architectural masterpiece, surrounded by well kept gardens, picnic tables and seating. Oppieberg Kiosk offers delicious meals & snacks. Buy an annual permit and visit / picnic as often as you like. Beautiful scenic drive to the top.
I was not particularly interested in visiting this monument, but what a surprise. The lines and symbolism, the architectural design - so clever with interesting angles, the beautiful views, the walking paths. Bought a chicken roti and koesister from the food cart. Both were delicious. Altogether a rewarding few hours.
Was a great experience , always wanted to see it up close and it is way bigger than expected, the gardens and botanical area is beautiful
My mom came to visit from out of town and we took her out for the day. We had never been to the Afrikaans Language Monument before and decided it would be a great idea to go show my mom and our kids. The weather was perfect and the views from the parking area were spectacular. The atmosphere was so peaceful but what impressed us the most is how well kept and secure the premises was. Everything was so clean and it was a pleasure to sit under the trees and just enjoy the beauty of the place we were at. Only little bit of constructive criticism I have is that I feel they can focus a little more on building up some souverniors related to the Afrikaans Language Monuments that one can purchase as a keepsake.
A must see when in Paarl. Signage clearly visible and well placed. Amazing views from restaurant. Friendly staff and security, popular with tourists.
Stunning views. They provide a Useful handout which somewhat explains the artist’s interpretation of the origins of Afrikaans, and one can then understand why the site is so inaccessible and a little remote and isolated.
Astonishing design. Beautiful views! Great site! Toilets, cafeteria etc. Sufficient parking, Save environment. Beautiful nature. Hart of the Afrikaans Language.
Beautiful architecture and scenery. The site has a rich history that can be explored and offers amazing views of Paarl and the surrounding areas. Also check out their website as live music events are often hosted on the grass embankments, which makes for a great time outdoors, especially during summer months.
Really enjoyed the beautiful views. Friendly staff, STUNNING gardens!! We got caught by the rain but well be back there soon!!
Awesome garden filled with poetry from new poets. The monument itself is an wonder to behold and the history behind it is fascinating. The restaurant has a breathtaking view but could benefit from a little classical background music.
Returned after 27 years and it still feels a special place. Love the high noon sun shining into the fountain at the bottom of the monument. The occasional sound the wind creates when strong enough makes an interesting feature. Its a highly symbolic structure with many nuanced details representing different languages of the country. All explained in the little adjacent museum.
