Visitors can drive their own cars or take a bus tour through this zoo with 450+ species of animals.
Beautifu. Worth it
Africam safari was such a wonderful experience! It was $850 pesos ($55 Canadianfor their tour plus entry tickets which was 1.5 hours where they drive you through all the animals and talk about the animals. It was an open roof concept and well worth the money! Then you would switch to a jeep for the lions and some other animals. Absolutely worth doing instead of the $350 pesos tickets to just drive through yourself.Half the park is drive through (either with your car or their tour), other half was a walk through the park on your own.Recommend going Monday Tuesday as that is the slowest days for them, less people which means better photos and better view of the animals.Pets: They do NOT allow pets but they do have an area for individual spaces for dogs so you can leave them there with food and water for the day. However, I do not know how many spaces there are so I do not know if they would run out of the individual spaces for dogs if it is a busy day.Highlights:- They had an area where you could feed the birds seeds on a stick, and they would all fly on your hand and stick to eat.- The butterfly 🦋 area, the butterflies would also fly on you frequently which was absolutely amazing.- They had a jeep built into the lions enclosure with a glass wall in between (front of jeep was in their enclosure and the wheel/seats/back of jeep was on the other sideyou could take photos in the jeep while the lions were laying on the front of the jeep. It was really cool to see a lions face right in front of me through the glass wall.- The elephants were so amazing. They had 18 of them when we went.- You can pay for an experience of feeding the giraffes from the open concept car tour they had (we didnt do this, but saw it happen and it looked really fun, they would eat out of your hand, makes some great photo opportunities and close up experience with the giraffes). It was clean, well taken care of, and great people.
Amazing experience and I was able to interact with the birds and butterflies. I got to watch outside my tourbus and saw amazing animals 10/10!
This place is so amazing. I love the animals and how well cared for they look. Most of all I love the bears!!! Oh and the lions and come to think of it the giraffes too!!!! The zebras are awesome too!!!
The best Safari in Mexico! 🌍
Best safari park in North America! Highly recommend a full day (6-8 hoursto enjoy it all at a leisurely pace.
Great experience but, the only down side was I was not able to get into the Bird show, it started 3PM and I got there 3:02PM only 2 minutes late and wouldnt allow us to go in keeping in mind it was almost all empty
It was so nice to be here, there were a lot of beautiful animals. We had a great time here and such a good experience with all the animals.
Loved it! It is a beautiful place to take kids and family. We visited from Coachella, Ca. Will come again
Safari part of the park is awesome! But they have "Adventure and photo area" which looks like regular zoo. That is why I dropped one star down.
An amazing safari park! Especially good if you go by car because you get to drive around and take photos. Its really organized and the safari part is amusing. Afterwards, you get to see so many more animals. I particularly enjoyed seeing the bats and the butterflies along with the leopard and panther. Very exciting
If you are near puebla is totally worth spending a day here. I booked the 4x4 open air adventure and was awesome.
Amazing place. Amazing animals and you can see the quality of care of the animals
We took the bike tour and it was particularly good. The guide was very enthusiastic and we got really close to elephants
Great place to spend some time
Love this place! The kids really enjoy seeing the animals up close!
Fantastic experience and i really hope (trustthey are caring for the animals well.. but can someone please check if the monkeys are okay???? Their enclosure has no greenery or resemblance of their natural habitat. Many of them looked severly depressed and hopeless :(Otherwise a really beautiful and well cared for park, with attention and loved put into many of the different areas such as the butterfly zone and bird cage. Different areaa represent different continents /countries and it has been done to create a very enjoyable and interactive day out. Im an adult and could happily have spent the entire day there from AM to PM.
I loved the drive through portion. It was really neat to see lions that close up.
Im at a loss for words to describe this experience.. This place is incredible. Jaw dropping surprises at every turn.If youre a wildlife photographer this is a must see.Ive been to other self drive safari venues. Nothing in the States compares.
Well organized and great variety of animals to see in their habitat
Very well kept! So many different animals. The staff were helpful and friendly. So many lions they had! Well probably do an experience next time were there!
Amazing Safari we loved everything about it. Definitely returning 😊
Its a great Safari and a great experience lots of animals to see and a good bird show I recommend visiting Africam Safari
Perfect place to visit with family. Our 2nd time visit was also fantastic. Various animals to look around
I believe, The best and largest animal reserve in México 🇲🇽🦒🦓🐘🦛🐆has a several habitats, African savannah, American steppes, Tropical jungle, Mexican forest, Tiger lake, Lion territory and walk-through adventure zone. The most interesting experience is the visitors can observe the animals from their own vehicle or the park guided buses in their natural habitat but, ALWAYS you have to stay inside of your vehicle with closed windows to prevent animal attacks. From the moment that you enter to the park you must be prepared for an adventure in Africa. They welcome you with African drum music and the hosts speak to you in an African language you must stay in your car throughout the tour you will really find beautiful animals such as ostriches, giraffes, elephants, white tigers, lions, gorillas, rhinoceros, flamingos, tortugas gigantes! You do not miss the Jaguar zone, kangaroo area, you will love them😍Rest zone.- Area where visitors are allow leave their vehicle to use park services, restaurant, public toilet, gift shop and snack bar. There are many animals and areas to see, make sure to be prepared to stay for 3-4 hours at least. This is a worthy experience. The love for the animals and their well-being can be seen for all over the park. You have to try the pizza 🍕 in the “Fuego de Leña” 🔥🪵 restaurant.By the way, I am not sponsored by the park.😂Enjoy your safari and keep safe!🙌🏻
My husband and I had so much fun. This park has many things to do and see. Stop at all the shops. Make sure you go and plan to stay 3-5 hours. We were very disappointed that the river ride was not open but is hasnt been since COVID-19 measures took effect. I recommend going during the week so there is less people and you can enjoy taking video and photos.
Always a phenomenal experience to be able to tour the park and interact with some animals. Possibly the best animal reserve in Mexico with the largest variety of animals. The park philosophy of love for animals and their wellbeing can be seen throughout the park.
Africam Safari is an amazing place to visit. A perfect way to get up close and personal with many animals. As you drive through, there are conveniently placed refreshment, bathroom and souvenir opportunities. After you drive through, you have the opportunity to walk around and see some other small animals...if you ha e time, do not miss...youll be glad you visited...plan on 2 to 3 hours at least.
Inaugurated in 1972, Africam Safari is well worth the visit to the Mexican state of Puebla, a three-hour drive from Mexico City. Today this safari park is home to more than 2,500 animals, employs more than 300 people and is considered the biggest zoo in Latin America.Be ready to spend close to three hours visiting Africam and taking wonderful pictures of the King of the Jungle, elephants, giraffes, orangutans, buffalos, aardvarks, ostriches, flamingos, australian parakeets, turtles, snakes, camels, hippopotami, lemurs, llamas, deer, elks, lynxes, panthers, and many more. There are lots of souvenirs you can buy for family and friends. And if you collect t-shirts of the places you visit, my favorite is the fluorescent t-shirt with the legend “Night Tours”.If you wonder where the name Africam comes from, I´ll answer your question, it is the combination of two words- Africa and the first three letters of the founders last name “Camacho”, and believe me, the story behind Carlos Camacho Espiritú is quite as fascinating as that of Africam. Here are 5 fascinating facts of Carlos Camacho Espiritú legend:HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO SERIAL ENTREPRENEUR- He was born into a humble family with 14 siblings in Puebla, Mexico. His father had a very modest job repairing shoes and Carlos never finished grade school. But this never stopped him and decades later, he would become an extremely successful entrepreneur owning radio stations, a helicopter and a tech company, pharmacies in the U.S.A. and Mexico and, of course, Africam.ILLEGAL ALIEN TO U.S. FORCES AIRCRAFT CAPTAIN- At 16-years old, he migrated to L.A. as an illegal alien pursuing the American Dream. He was deported back to Mexico and a few years later returned to the U.S., completed his military service, earned the rank of Captain, becoming an American citizen and eventually marrying a native Californian, Louise Wardle, with whom he had six daughters and two sons.RADIO ANNOUNCER TO LABORATORY FOUNDER- In L.A., he leased the 2 to 6 a.m. slot of a radio station directed to listeners of Mexican origin. He capitalized on this platform to create “Laboratorios Mayo” specializing in selling medicaments to latin americans. This entrepreneurship would make him wealthy and provide the resources to launch his other businesses.SURVIVE! (Sobrevivientes de los Andes)- He produced 9 films, among them the 1976 thriller, Survive!- “the story of a Uruguayan rugby team that crashes in the Andes Mountains and has to survive the extremely cold temperatures and rough climate. As some of the people die, the survivors are forced to make a terrible decision between starvation and cannibalism” (Wikipedia).FATAL TIGER ATTACK- On the 28th of october of 1976, Captain Carlos Camacho died as a result of injuries sustained by the attack of a tiger, while protecting a family which foolishly got out of the car in Africam.
Africam Safari (yes Africam with an "m"is a must when visiting Puebla, being -as far as I know- the only open area / drive thru zoo in Mexico. And as such I expected to see all animals in open areas or at least large containment sections, Ill explain later. You start off driving through a path surrounded by different animals, the entrance is beautiful, easy and fairly quick, they even have an app with a map and bluetooth markers throughout the park explaining what you should be seeing as you drive, some animals come really close to your car giving you great photo opportunities. Theyve designed the park in such a way that you have three or four resting areas with food, gift shops, and bathrooms as you progress through the map, and at the last stop, you park your car and walk through the rest of the zoo, with petting areas and educational signs all over.I truly loved the experience the staff is very friendly and I understand that maintaining a zoo requires a great deal of logistics and investment while they also provide a great educational ground to the community, but the big felines seemed like they were displaying signs of stress, the lions were all walking in a never-ending circle (like 15 to 20 of them), behavior Ive never seen in documentaries, you always see them resting in the shade under the hot sun (we were there during the hottest time of the day), Im not an expert but it felt weird. Then when we saw the two beautiful jaguars and the black panther, they were displaying the same behavior, walking back and forth like a caged animal or just standing and staring into the emptiness, these last three felines were in a very reduced area, it seemed like the turtles had a bigger space.Im also aware the sometimes these animals might be rescued from circuses or private keepers and these behaviors stay with them for the rest of their lives so Im not judging the parks capacity or knowledge for keeping these animals, Im just mentioning what it made me feel.
Very nice experience. Very clean and animals look happy. The staff seemed unorganized at times and could be more attentive. Otherwise good experience.
Its a nice place to visit, this is the second time Ive been there. And they improve the final part of the park with nice restaurants.
It was a good trip, the cost perhaps its just, you can enter with your own car and enjoy all the different types of animals. The unic point, that was to important conciderence, is that there are not so much quantity of animals. The place is big and cute.I recommend you at 80%
Amazing place. You can see the animals in their natural habitat. Really clean and people is so friendly. Excellent customer service
My girlfriend and I went there on one of those tours that they sell to you in downtown Puebla so needless to say we didnt have the best experience that we couldve had , since we had to experience the wild life from a buss up until the final point of the tour where they let you go Into their walk in adventure. I honestly feel they could find a way to make the whole experience a walk through activity form start to finish even if you arent up close and personal with all the animals, they have the space and the means to do so because it so uncomfortable to have to literally stuck in what feels like traffic because not all cars move at the same pace which makes it annoying after a while.
I love this place. You can see a lot of African wild animals life without any fence before you. What you protect is your car. You see how guides feet the animals. And in another area you see animals like snakes and birds in a cage. Birds you can feed by youself as well. In addition you have a restarante to eat and see the animals.
Africam Safari is a must to see when you visit the beautiful city of Puebla in Mexico. It is a nice safari where you and your family can learn from the different animals and their different habitats.I remember I used to go as a little girl and I loved it. If you visit Puebla you need to save a day to go and live the safari experience. We recommend you go in the morning as times flies and you want to take your time to see the animals and not rush. The facilities are very nice.
One of the best zoo garden I have seen so far. Many animals free and you pass with your car or walk trough front of them. I advice anyone who is in region to visit. Its very nice experience, moreover for childrens.
Amazing place, animals are in great conditions and best of all is that they are preserving a lot of endangered species. You can also volunteer, make your residence or internship by its web page.
Excellent tour and guides... 100% recommended for families. They have great gift shops and you get to see the animals up close.
I had the best time of my life there! Animals everywhere. Different exhibits from different countries it was great. We found out that they had just acquired a rhino and were trying to get him in the his habitat and got to see this him up close. He was massive.
What an incredible experience! A wonderful collection of animals in apparently natural habitats. The tour guide was very good. Some of the animals even wandered between the cars! I only wish we had more time to look at each of the animals before having to move on to the next.
Its such an incredible experience to get in touch with the nature and the animals and to learn the importance of taking care of them and the enviroment and avoid the purchase of exotic animals
Both reviews in English and SpanishExcelente, vale la pena ir totalmente. This is a must-go if you are visiting Puebla, you’ll not find here in Mexico another with this quality and care for the animals. They’re free to walk, cross and do whatever they want in the section you are crossing and always is personal around for your safety. If you can pay an upgraded experience it’s totally worth it, we choose two packages and we’re able to feed and pet giraffes and lemurs.
Amazing place! Went this summer with some family and we all enjoyed it very much!
Such a wonderful zoo! We spend the entire day here looking at all of the animals. There are many interactions you can have with the animals such as feeding colorful birds, petting the kangaroos, feeding giraffes, the list goes on and on. We saw over 50 different species of animals including an albino tiger! I can’t wait to go back!
There arent as much animals as one would expect, specially tigers. I went in the afternoon but perhaps going to the night tour is preferable regarding tigers, since they were sleeping (very cute btw). The area where you go by foot is so much fun than the one by car.
Is a very nice zoo specially for kids,Highly recommend not to visit in holidays is too busy! And you need to stay for the night because all the shows starts in the night.Acceptable prices not cheap but worthy.Recommended.
My family and i first safari and it was amazing. The tour bus drives hits 3 stop, were you are able to get out of the tour bus and walk around. I never been to a safari but the close encounter with the animals was way cool. And plus the little restaurants and vendors there, are very welcoming and polite; with amazing food. A day to always remember.
Quite expensive for the kind of trip, the variety of animals is a little bit disappointing but it feels really nice that many of the animals are really close to your car.I would recommend this only for animal lovers which agree upon animal captivity.
