AfriCamps Klein Karoo - in Oudtshoorn, South Africa
I and my wife enjoyed every day at Africamps. Friendly staff and it makes it so easy that you can just Whatsapp them if you need stuff like water or firewood. We will visit again
We enjoyed our stay at Africamps! It was a bit cold, but the fireplace made it nice and cozy inside. Beautiful camp area and close to nature. The tent was nice and private and all the necessary things are included. Warm beds, hot shower, beautiful sunset, overall a good experience. Staff members were friendly and helpful
Absolute Fabulousness! Beautiful setting and wonderful staff and accommodation. Thoroughly enjoyed every second of our stay 👌
Very neat and clean. Friendly staff.Nature at its best
Perfect Klein Karoo experience! We loved ALL of this camp. Super clean, well maintained, the staff were helpful and accommodating. If you plan in advance they’ll even provide you with breakfast and dinner baskets that are lovely. Close to many local attractions as well. This is GLAMping!
We stayed there in December and found the price point didnt offer the value. The offering is too basic for the price and important things, like the pool, were broken or dirty. If you offer a pool, which is critical in the summer, keep it clean. There are better options available in the valley close by.Also, a friend was supposed to join from Germany and couldnt make it due to the strict travel restrictions foe Europeans in December but the establishment refused to offer a refund for him.Regret but I will not be staying at any AfriCamps in the future.Sincerely Justin
Wish I could rate AfriCamps higher. It was meant to be the highlight of our multiday trip around the Garden Route and Klein Karoo. The Good:Starting with the good, the tents are a fun way to experience the Klein Karoo and are set upon a beautiful piece of land overlooking a lake (8 of the 12). The view and braai pit were definitely adored. The beds are super comfortable and the air conditioner is definitely appreciated in the middle of summer. The staff member on duty was super friendly and helpful. The Bad:Some things couldve been communicated better by AfriCamps. For starters, the road connecting the highway to AfriCamps is incredibly rough and rugged and a smaller city car would struggle with getting to and from the camp. Luckily our car had the required clearance but had we not had our car we wouldve had to walk 5-10minutes from the road. The rooms are advertised as having WiFi but the WiFi was only available at the reception and didnt reach our tent at all (despite being very close). Luckily we didnt bother us much but this should be noted. On the second day, the WiFi didnt work at all and only the office WiFi was available. The highlight activity according to their promotional material is the meerkat tour, however when we enquired about this we were told that the meerkats have all left and that we had to go to Buffelsdrift to see them instead. The zips for the mosquito nets didnt work. One didnt open and the other didnt close. The remainder of the zips were super stiff. The Ugly:The air conditioner was not clean and was coated in dust and mould. It had a slight smell and made us doubt their Covid conscious cleaning. A bottle of sanitiser is provided in the kitchen but our bottle was empty. There was food left on top of the air conditioner by a previous guest that was still in the room when we checked in. If the cleaners can miss a half open bag of food when cleaning I am worried about what else they miss. The water in the unit is not safe to drink and has a very strong odour of sewage. We tried having a shower but the water made the whole bathroom and tent smell off so we elected to rather shower at our next hotel. We had to use the provided drinking water to brush our teeth because the water was so gross. I understand the water is probably rain, river or recycled water but the smell of the water really doesnt say "glamping". Additionally, the shower head was full of mould too. To add to the woes, the swimming pool water was a murky green and the kiddies pool looked even worse. Despite the 40C weather we decided not to swim either as the pool water was gross and so was the shower water we would have to use afterwards.Obviously AfriCamps is not meant to be a 5 star hotel and it is unfair to hold them to those standards, but for R1500+ a night for the 3 of us when many farms nearby charge a fraction of the cost, we did expect better. As a novelty the accomodation is fun but at its current condition I wouldnt want to stay longer than a night. For the price, basics such as usable shower water and a clean room would be expected. Bonuses like a clean pool would obviously also be appreciated.
Beautiful place!!!
A brilliant glamping experience for a family. The tents are the epitome of lux with aircons and comfortable beds. The attention to detail is incredible. From wood on arrival, complimentary water in the fridge, swimming towels at the communal pool and wood on arrival. We so enjoyed the stunning view and brilliant sunsets. The pool is clean and the small bar with drinks for sale is a clever addition to the whole experience. A must stay if you’re in Oudtshoorn.
Top of its class really something special.
The camp is new. Everything works. It is family friendly. This is a self catering place and it has a fair share of "party people " though nothing too bad after dark. This was my 2nd time this year and the camp host greeted me like family. There isnt anything much to do at camp and the road noise is pretty constant... so this isnt a Cape Nature property but then again this one is pet friendly so who cares about all that noise?
Excellent place, highly recommended.
Tent was perfect, reception and management staff was excellent, but the steps to the deck on the tent are dangerous- no hand rail or surrounding rail on deck. Suggest rails are fitted
What a great escape for a family breakawayClean, comfortable, lovely surrounds and the catering brought to your rooms was so awesome. Kids keep begging to go backVery welcoming and run by passionate people. We enjoyed lazy pool days and truly felt relaxed on departure.
Àwesome week here, electric blankets during July went down a storm. Meerkat Safari is a must!
Cold but very nice
Incredible accommodation and experience, loved our time here.
Tenting with a bit of comfort.....Oh, but what great fun. We cycled daily, the kids had endless walks, exploring the rugged, arid terrain. The wildlife was always nearby..... My son, aged 6, shouted "Dad, I saw a coyote" on one of our bike rides(actually a jackal, but then again, he does cycle as fast as a road-runner). We had daily interactions with Alfred, who lives at the camp, and he was always kind, courteous and helpful. Thank you to the team for making our stay so pleasant and relaxing.
A place to unwind and enjoy the tranquility of nature and nothingness. Very peaceful. Great staff. Safari drive was something everyone on visiting should go on. JJ you are the best. Thanks for making it a highlight.
Excellent and amazing views on the Swartberge
Stayed last Saturday night.. it was our first time at Africamps and definitely wont be our last (weve already booked our next visit!). The tents are luxury and have everything you need, it is five star camping. The braai area and deck are perfect for sitting back, relaxing and enjoying nature.
Excellent experience, with spectacular views and 5 star accommodation
Best Glamping and the views are amazing
this is a perfect family glamping spot - all things are basic, but arranged in a very high standard. I‘ll be happy to spent my next trip to ZA hoping from Africamp to Africamp.
Excellent, staff very friendly, discoveryourself again
Absolute gem. Well priced. Great location. Accommodation of choice in the area.
it is included in our next road trip.
Amazing boutique tents, perfect for families and friends. Experience Klein Karoos wildlife with the comfort and luxury of these wonderful tents.
Amazing
Great family run accommodation! We would come again, next time for 2-3 nights at least :)USPs:- new tents with a lovely interior design- very nice hosts, good service- lovely food packages, packed with love and good quality products- very calm and clear nights, perfect for a star gazing night on the veranda with a nice bottle of wine from the neighboring vineyard- great pool with snacks- we were there as 2 friends, it is perfect for families with even up to 5 people- open space with stunning view, you will feel free as in no other place in SA!The only thing that should be improved is the entrance at the gate. The entrance code should be communicated in advanve, or there should be a bell. The telefon number doesnt help when guests dont have a sim card or reception.
Amazing experience, great staff. Amenities are top notch. Would definitely come back and highly recommend.

Place to relax and enjoy the outdoors
Worthwhile the visit! The experience of a luxury tent chalet! Great site for astrophotography with minor light pollution.
We stayed one night only. This is 5 star self cater accommodation at reasonable prices. Just outside oudtshoorn on the Cango caves road. 12 tented type on platforms, most with dam views on a farm. Spaced nicely, private yet nice atmosphere. Central to many wine tasting, restaurants, town and the Caves. Inside is upmarket, rusty, cleverly laid out. Comfortable beds, hot showers. In Short, wow with a fire place, aircon...Well be back for longer next time*****
Excellent stay!
Perfect outdoor accommodation experience to relax for a few nights when traveling to/via Oudtshoorn.
Very cool camps with more luxury than normal. You can also walk and do whatever you want on the whole property! Animals walk right in front of your tent.
we had a lovely stay - too short
Amazing weekend getaway
Very nicely done. Great experience
Had a very nice stay. Our tend looked brand new and had a lot of space. It’s more a house then a tend.Kitchen is good equipped. Ever tend has a big grill and you can get firewood from the owner. The pool is big but could need some shade.Look out for the turtles on the site 🐢🐢
Awesome tents. Unique experience I would do again. Food and breakfast quite pricy. The ostrich tour is nothing special. You can easily stop anywhere to see an ostrich along the route, no need to pay R270 for that.
Best location!friendly people and the best view when you wake up!
We loved it! The tent is amazing, you have everything you need inside, we ordered the barbecue kit and it felt amazing to cook under the karoo skies! We did the meerkat safari with them and it was very informative and adorable to see those tiny funny animals. I would strongly recommend Africamps for anyone planning to stay in Oudtshoorn. We wished we stayed more than the 2 nights we planned.
Perfect relax place for the family.
Wonderful accommodation at one with the serenity of African outback and nature. The tours offered are also well worth it - we saw meerkats, giraffes, and zebras as they woke up on the amazing morning tour with the bubbly Isabella, and learnt a lot about the local ostrich trade on the later tour.Heinrich the manager was also extremely helpful and obliging.Would stay again!
A very lovely experience:- decor and concept is excellent (you will feel like you are camping but very luxuriously)- AC comes with both hot and cold temperature- heated mattress- a self-contained unit- towels and sheets are clean- rain shower- consistent hot/ cold shower- fireplace to keep warm- host is friendly and kind- location near cango wildlife ranch and not too far away from ostrich farms and townwe enjoy the stay very muchy
