Afrasiyab Settlement - Historical landmark in Komsomolets, Kazakhstan
La ville antique avec un superbe musée
You cant really see it as it shows in the aerial view photoGoing up the precarious steps, you only see a cemetery and the afrosiab is actually blocked off and is used by shepherdsNot really worth the high entrance feesYou have to pay for the museum separately, it isnt part of this location
Remote site but worth the climb. Local tent lunch was very interesting.
Great silk road stone camels
Basically, there’s nothing. You have to walk half an hour to get to the hill and back, and you’ll see only some ruins (using the fantasy). The site get more interest if you, before, visit the afrasiyab museum, explaining the sense of the settlement. After the visit of the museum you can reach through a grey metal door the top of a close hill where it is supposed the king lived and where the paintings in the museum are from. But believe me, don’t go more inside the hill : wasted time.
So interesting
A huge elevation in area is all that remains of the adobe buildings of the capital of the ancient kingdom of Turan. Part of this area is occupied by old cemeteries. In some places there are pits dug by archaeologists. The exact date of construction is unknown, but under Alexander the Great it was already the capital of the kingdom.
Afrosiyob Paintings Findspot
Nice spot for a small walk after visiting Bibi Khanum mosque or the Shad-i-Zinda complex. Facsinating to walk through this piece of nature (with sheep and shepherdswhilst having a small lunch break. When we went there, local authorities tried to prevent us from entering at the official entrances (no idea why singmce there clearly were other locals insode of the perimeter). Just walk a bit around and you’ll find a secundary gate or a destroyed piece of wall to get into the domain; it’s worth it.
There are lot of building which are dated back to 9 to 14 centuries.all building have graves which varies for 2 to 5 graves in each structure.Names are mentioned out side of each building.there are lot of tourists which are visiting that area.We take a round of place.
Goverment sucks
Welcome to Uzbekistan 🇺🇿🇺🇿🇺🇿❤️❤️The first people known to have occupied Central Asia were Iranian nomads who arrived from the northern grasslands of what is now Kazakhstan sometime in the first millennium BC. These nomads, who spoke Iranian dialects, settled in Central Asia and began to build an extensive irrigation system along the rivers of the region. At this time, cities such as Bukhara (Bukharaand Samarqand (Samarkandbegan to appear as centers of government and culture. By the fifth century BC, the Bactrian, Soghdian, and Tokharian states dominated the region. As China began to develop its silk trade with the West, Iranian cities took advantage of this commerce by becoming centers of trade. Using an extensive network of cities and settlements in the province of Transoxiana (Mawarannahr was a name given the region after the Arab conquestin Uzbekistan and farther east in what is today Chinas Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Soghdian intermediaries became the wealthiest of these Iranian merchants. Because of this trade on what became known as the Silk Route, Bukhara and Samarqand eventually became extremely wealthy cities, and at times Transoxiana was one of the most influential and powerful Persian provinces of antiquity❤️❤️

Hello hello are we going out for a walk tomorrow morning at three in the morning
Service very slow. Food average.
Very far out of the centre and not much to see or worth visiting for
Great place to visit, they use basil everywhere as a decorative plant. Women need to cover knees, but they have aprons you can borrow
Nice walking path and environment.
Magical land relaxing soul
Very spesial and mistirious place...
Cool place
Great place to visit
Nice place
Beautiful place
Very impressive
Just passed by..
There is nothing here. Photos are mistaken, and belong to other places. This is a beautiful big patch of grass (at least in springwith hills and and a few areas of dust that I can assume are the old settlement. No entry sign, no door, no signs, nothing. If green (I think it’s seasonalit’s a nice place for a picnic and a walk. Nothing else.
Quite interesting.
The city of dead

Can not know clearly of this site since there are no signboards or information written. There must be some information boards for tourist acknowledgment.

Interesting historical place, worth visiting with family. Recommend to hire a guide
Great historical place. Must visit if you are in Samarkand.
It was a very good place for site seeing.
At the entrance to Samarkand from the north side there is the ancient settlement of Afrasiab (VII-II centuries BC), which is located on high hills. What is amazing that there were no any sign of the city and local population called this site as the city of Afrasiab, believing in the legend of existence of the huge city, founded by the mythic king Turan. Actually it is the settlement of ancient Samarkand of pre-Mongol period. It was the site of urban life from VI century BC till the destruction by Mongol troops in 1220.
Not really much to see. No documentation or signs. But okay to wander around a little.
Ok
They have a very old wall!
Afrosiab northeast of the Bib-Khanym Mosque at Samarkand, Uzbekistan, was the site of the ancient city of Marakanda destroyedi in 1220 by Genghis Khan.
