It was a 5 star experience all around. We ordered the meet combo for two(which includes a chicken and a beef kabobs, chicken qabuli palow, 5 beef dumplings and salads); Bulani and Firni (cardamon puddingfor desert. Its not a huge place, but they have a big table to host larger crowds(8_10). We also liked the decoration, atmosphere and the friendly owner/service. Will return for sure :)

First time here.I had the Lamb Shank Qabuli Palow. It was very good. The meat literally fell right off the bone! I really enjoyed the flavor of the eggplant.I would suggest eating there so you get everything hot.I also got the Afghan garlic naan. It was a little thinner then the Indian naan that Ive had as to compare. The yogurt sauce was great on the Naan. The Bulani was a Flatbread stuffed with potatoes and green onion. It was a bit bland, so I tried it with the sauces provided.I took some naan home and when I microwaved it. It wasnt as good and it got hard pretty quick. This is a small local restaurant. (Main Street location)The next time I go, I want to get just the eggplant (Burani Banjan)

A friend suggested we come here for dinner, and we were quite impressed. I had the Lamb Shank Qabuli Palow, and it was very tasty. Our food came out in good time and the wait staff was cordial and prompt. I wanted to try something from the dessert menu, and asked our server for a recommendation between the Firni and Joose E Am. She said that the only real dessert is the Firni, and the other listings are drinks. I got the Firni which was good, but then she also brought out a small cup of the Joose E Am for me to try free of charge which was fantastic. I live in Ogden, and I would definitely make the drive down to eat here again.

My family and I visited the Salt Lake City location, and we were the first guests of the day (they open at 4PM). The staff was friendly, and the restaurant was clean. We sat down and ordered the following; mantu for appetizer, and Garlic naan. My wife ordered the lamb shank (only one option at this location), and I ordered the lamb and ground beef kabob plate. The appetizer was good, the naan was good (a flat bread), and even my wife’s lamb shank was good. The disappointment was my order. My plate had literally 3 small cubes of lamb, possibly a 2 ounce serving of ground beef patty, less than half a cup of cooked rice and maybe 1/4 cup of the house salad. The pictures of their menu suggests you’re going to get a decent portion (at least a full skewer of each protein selection), and for $18+ dollars for this dish, I expected as much. I was surprised by the small serving and honestly embarrassed to ask. We won’t be going back.**keep in mind, nearly any ethnic restaurant we have visited; Persian, Arabic, Greek, Pakistani, Indian all provide a near similar serving and one I would consider reasonable. My portion at this restaurant was more of a “kids menu” portion.

So we showed up one evening for dinner 30 minutes before they closed. We apologized as we thought they were open slightly later. We offered to come back another day but the hostess said she’d check with the kitchen and came back and seated us. She was very warm, friendly, and polite however she felt she rushed us a bit and apologized profusely and even brought us a complimentary appetizer. I have no clue what we ate but it was all delicious! We just asked for suggestions and ate what came out. Loved everything we ordered and will definitely go back at a more decent hour.

I swear this strip mall has some the best hidden gems in salt lake. You need to try this place. Everything is so good and full of flavor. The kebabs are perfectly seasoned and tender. The sauces are amazing. And the service is excellent.

Tonight my wife and I tried Afghan Kitchen for the very first time. I had lamb shank and she had qabuli palow (chicken and rice). The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and perfectly seasoned. The chicken was delicious. The cucumber salad that was served along side the entrees was crisp and refreshing. The only funky thing for us was the eggplant served with the dishes, but that was a personal texture issue not a flavor issue. The garlic naan is massive and delicious, other local restaurants that serve it cant compare on the naan.Overall a fantastic experience that we cannot wait to have again in the future.

My wife and I went for dinner on a Friday night and only a few patrons were there. The service was prompt, friendly, and thorough. We ordered the Burani for an appetizer, and the bread proved delightfully crispy and the potato stuffing savory. We shared a kebab dish and mushroom chicken with naan on the side and both dishes were just wonderful. We hope to return soon.

People are entitled to their personal tastes but as far as I am concerned this meal was perfect and that’s a fact. Perfectly chewy naan with hints of char here and there. Basmati cooked ideally, separate grains, massive portion. Cold, crunchy salad and succulent lamb. Zero flaws in this meal. Highly recommended.

I hadnt ever been to the south salt lake location&we went on a double date with another friend couple & we ordered the family style platter for 5 & I also turned everyone on to try the doog drink which I was familiar with & it was a hit for all assembled. The food was fantastic, the service was exceptional & the ambiance perfect for a lovely dinner out on the town! Highly recommend if you are a fan of middle eastern cuisine & flavors! Support family owned & local businesses! We will return!!

Afghan Kitchen functions as an authentic hole in the wall locale with a simple focused menu on select Afghan cuisine. Their biggest strength is how they treat their meat. Lamb falls off the bone and blends well with mild aromatic spice blends. Price for food is fair from what we ordered.Only elements I believe could use improvement is their plate presentation. I ordered the chicken and mushroom and it was a very simplistic half rice, half curry and the turmeric colors blended elements so it all looked the same. To really elevate their status it will be great to see some color variety to some of their plates. But overall a worthwhile experience and would recommend!

What a hidden gem! Weve never had Afghan cuisine before and everything was flavorful and delicious. Its a small restaurant in an industrial/commercial part of the city and we were surprised how busy it was on a Sunday evening at 8pm. Must be because the food is amazing! The staff were friendly and attentive. Our food came very quickly - piping hot from the kitchen.

It is a unique experience in Salt Lake City to have a Afghan food. Food was good quantity was average and The taste was really good. The yogurt eggplant sauce with the lamb shank with rice was the choice of my last night dinner which I enjoy going to a 15 minutes drive in order to to get to know this unique restaurant is called Afghani kitchen. The people was very friendly very open even though I was walked in 20 minutes before closing and they was able to get me a fresh food. I really recommend anybody who wants to try some ethnic and especially Afghan food to visit Afghan kitchen. If you agree with my recommendation and like the value of my reviews please provide feedback. Enjoy your visit to a Afghan kitchen. Happy traveling.

The staff were seriously the nicest people! We were so grateful they went the extra mile to help us feel comfortable with our two little ones! They even brought a little game out for our toddler and made sure they had covered cups for their drinks. This kind of service makes all the difference for families and we deeply appreciated it. Ive already recommended this place to friends! The kids loved the Mango Lassi and Bulani (especially with the yogurt sauce). You HAVE to try the Qabuli Palow, the rice is so aromatic and the chicken cooked perfectly with two of the best sides you could imagine (both super fresh and flavorful). We cant wait to come back and try the Pumpkin Mantu and Kabobs!

Was really craving middle eastern food the day when I came in and I am so glad that I did.Taste & Presentation:To start we ordered the bulani, the afghan Naan, and the aush soup. Everything was incredibly flavorful and so tasty and different from other middle eastern dishes that I have had. The aush soup definitely stole the show in these appetizers though as it was not only hearty but mouth riveting. For my main course, I ordered the Qabuli Palow a chicken dish that is said to be the most popular dish in Afghanistan. There were so many flavors and textures to it. I loved it. I also ordered a Joose E Am which was very similar to a mango lassi. The presentation of the main dish was alright. It comes in a tinfoil plate and kind of looks jumbled. I think the esthetics could really use some work, that doesnt mean it didnt taste great though.Vibe & ServiceThe vibe in the restaurant was hole-in-the-wall-esque. It is located in an obscure part of town and kind of hidden in the building. I think these added to the esthetic inside which was very homey. The service was also great!

We came here a couple of times in the last few years. I can still remember the first time they opened in 2016; we were one of their first customers. The location is odd for sure, amidst industrial/commercial warehouses, junkyards, and factories. Nonetheless, theyve come a long way on their food quality since theyve first opened. We can really see that reflected in their prices over the years. So what were trying to do every weekend is, order lunch from various restaurants for pickup, and have a picnic at the park. So last Sunday, our pick was Afghan Kitchen, where we ordered online (via Seamlessfor pickup at 1:30 PM. I started calling the restaurant around 12:30 PM to confirm our order, as I didnt receive any confirmation email. Someone pickup around 1 PM, and told me they dont open till 3 PM! I have no idea why Seamless allowed me to place my order for pickup when they dont open till much later. He told me to come pickup my order at 3:15 PM, shortly after they open at 3 PM.Hungry and looking forward to starting our delayed day, we arrived around 3 PM, where we saw the guy standing outside distraught. He informed us the power was out, and understandably impacted his kitchen. He told us hed have our food ready soon. We received our food around 3:40 PM. Since we were starving at this point, we asked if we could dine outside, where the server welcomed us.We ordered the Mix Kabob and Lamb Shahi Kabob. The mixed kabob came with chicken tikka and a ground beef skewer, while the lamb shahi kabob came with chicken tikka and lamb tikka. They gave us many sauces as well. We liked the green chutney, white sauce tasted diluted. The food was absolutely delicious. So much better than the previous times we came here. We were some of their first customers when they opened, and after a couple times we didnt want to come back. But now I can see why they raised their prices, although it doesnt justify the location. While everything was fine and dandy and we were there enjoying our meal, I got up to ask for more chutney. The guy we were dealing with all this time told me to try to finish up. His reasoning was that their power was out and he didnt want customers coming to order, since they cant serve them. This caught me by a bit of a surprise, as I didnt expect that from him. His reason and logic was flawed. I failed to understand how us dining out would impact him serving customers. Im assuming his online ordering system was off due to no power, and even if any orders did go through, hed have to accept and confirm it. Usually the customer doesnt come to pick it up until its confirmed. If the customer shows up, its their fault for coming without getting the confirmation. If customers show up to dine in or place and pick up an order in person, they can see the power outage. But what are the odds customers will come for lunch/dinner at 3 PM on a Sunday, when their operating hours are 3-8 PM everyday. Id assume customers would come in more after 5 PM for dinner. Lastly, I doubt anyone would drive by the remote industrial location of the restaurant on a Sunday, and decide to order there just because they saw us dining out.I know the guy was probably stressed because of the power outage, so Ill give him a break. Didnt really say anything to him, except hoping the power is restored soon. Anyway, the food was good, probably the best Afghan food weve had here in the city, and well be back to try their other items.

Thank goodness for Google reviews or I would never have found this place. Driving by, it doesnt look like much at all. Its a total hole in the wall, the parking lot is tiny, the sign is missing letters. But once you step inside, the smell makes it all worth it. The staff is very friendly. The menu is authentic, and the food tastes amazing. The lamb is fall-off-the-bone tender, the kebab is delicious, the lewang chicken was very tender and full of flavor, the garlic naan is made in an authentic tandoor. If you like the mango yogurt juice drinks that are common in Indian restaurants, definitely try the Joos e am. A couple people in my group werent huge fans because it was a little more tart than they were used to, but I loved it. This was my second visit, and Ill be back again, gladly!

Afgan Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in the Salt Lake Valley! Their kabobs are very well marinated, soft and tender. Their pilaf is so yummy. And beef dumpling is soft and juicy! Their food is not very spicy, but has the optimum amount spice to make it yummy!

This is a nice and different from mainstream foods : here are a few tips to enjoy your experience at Afghan Kitchen, if it is your first time.1. If you look at the description of each dish it will help you to understand the flavor.2. Depends how hungry you are ~ usually if I go with one or two more people we get one main dish, naan and a soup. You have to try the soup !!3. Enjoy the background music. This place is good for casual gathering or coming alone too.

Im glad that Salt Lake City has an Afghan restaurant, and a good one too. This is also a good place to eat if vegetarian, since there is a good selection on the menu. There is a very nice atmosphere, and although it isnt advertised much outside, it was easy enough to find and very pleasant indoors. The service was awesome. I personally was in a rush, but the staff was very kind and helpful, being quick to help me with anything I needed. All the food seemed delicious, but I figured I would try the chicken Kabuli Palau, since this is Afghanistans national dish, some naan, and a mango lassi. Pictures dont do it justice. It was scrumptious and Im looking forward to coming back for more.
