Jl. Laksda Adisucipto No.167, Papringan, Caturtunggal, Kec. Depok, Kabupaten Sleman, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta 55281, Indonesia, Yogyakarta
House museum featuring unique architecture & various paintings from namesake Indonesian artist.
Worth visiting, especially if youre into art.
A fantastic family of artists on display. Also don’t forget to go down the stairs to the studio for even more art!
Its more pricey for foreigners ):But overall a very different musem, worth looking at
very recommended to art admirers ✨🖼️the entrance fee is a little bit expensive (50k for Indonesian & 100k for foreignerbut its pretty worth it. They take a really good care for the paintings and buildings. You will be able to get the necessary information about displayed arts and paintings. People could enjoy a relaxing ambience, from the arts and nature around it.
Worth a visit. He lives on not only in his art but now also through his children & grandchildren some of whos art is also impressive
A very meaningful art by Pak Affandi, the museum is clean, neat and theres a cute cafe
The place was okay, its funny how the museum has different buildings, 2 for Affandis, and the other 2 for his wife, daughter, and grandson.Whats weird was, the ticket was IDR 50K, but then I was asked if I would take picture inside of the museum (mobile phone counts too, not only pro camera), then I said yes. And I was asked to pay another 20k 😲 on the 20k ticket stated that its for museum maintenance 🤔 I dont mind tho, just find it weird. The museum has quite a lot of paintings, and theyre beautiful and well-cared.
I was there in 2015. I can saw so many art work of very prominent and Important Indonesian artist Affandi . Are you art lover, you should go to the Affandi Museum.Affandi (18 May 1907 – 23 May 1990was an Indonesian artist. Born in Cirebon, West Java, as the son of R. Koesoema, who was a surveyor at a local sugar factory, Affandi finished his upper secondary school in Jakarta. He gave up his studies to pursue his desire to become an artist. Beginning in 1934, Affandi began teaching himself how to paint. He married Maryati, a fellow artist. One of his children, Kartika also became an artist.[1]Affandi was born in 1907, in Cirebon. His father was R. Koesoemah. When he was a child, his father wanted him to be a doctor; however, Affandi was interested in drawing.[2]Artistic career:In the 1950s, Affandi began to create expressionist paintings. The piece Carrying the First Grandchild (1953marked his newfound style known as "squeezing the tube". Affandi painted by directly squeezing the paint out of its tube. He came across this technique by accident, when he intended to draw a line one day. As he lost his patience when he was looking for a missing pencil, he applied the paint directly from its tube. The resulting effect, as he found out, was that the painted object appeared more alive. He also felt more freedom to express his feelings when he used his own hands, instead of a paint brush. In certain respects, he has acknowledged similarities with Vincent van Gogh.[citation needed]Like most of his Indonesian contemporaries, Affandi grew up largely cut off from the mainstream of modern art. It wasnt until the late 1930s that the first exhibitions of major Western artists – from Gauguin to Kandinsky and Picasso – were held in Batavia (todays Jakarta). Affandi was particularly fascinated by the Javanese wayang, or shadow-play. He followed his family to Bandung and then to Batavia, honing his skill at drawing and then at oil painting. By the time he began painting seriously, in 1940, he had at various times been a housepainter, a cinema ticket-collector, and a billboard artist. He would save paints left over from the posters and his other jobs and paint landscapes. Soon he was exhibiting – and, as a surprise to himself – actually selling. With his wifes consent, he decided to devote the first ten days of each month to his trade, and the remaining twenty to his art.[citation needed]His only teachers were a few reproductions that he saw in copies of Studio, an art magazine from London. He felt a kinship with the Impressionists, with Goya and with Edvard Munch, as well as the earlier masters, Breughel, Hieronymus Bosch and Botticelli. Their influence began to show in his paintings. But the grim realities around Affandi made an even greater mark on him. In Yogjakarta one day, just after the Pacific War, Affandi sat painting a market place where folk were grubbing about, half-starved and half-naked. Infuriated at his seeming unconcern, a youth threw dust at the artist and his canvas, shouting: "This man is mad! While our people are naked he paints them on canvas and makes a bad painting we cannot understand.-Wikipedia
Bit more pricey compared to another Jogjakarta’s cultural touristy destination. Is it worthy? If you like Affandi’s piece of art, you might find it worth the value of money. However when I got there, only two galleries open. It supposed to open 4 galleries on normal business day. Anyway, I enjoyed Affandi’s creation and history, you should too
A museum to honour Indonesia’s great Artist Affandi. Well located near plaza ambarukmo yet close to nature thanks to nearby river and green concept of the museum. A nice place to get in touch with Affandi
Private museum run by the family. One can enjoy the artwork of Affandi. The grandson of Affandi guided and explained the paintings during our visit. The entrance fee is relatively cheap. Get some souvenirs from the cafe after your tour.
The atmosphere here is quiet and relaxing even its located near the main road. If you love paintings, you must visit Museum Affandi.. breathtaking. I really recommend this place, especially for a casual date or only as a me time destination.
I loved it. The art was great to take in and I also enjoyed the architecture. You really get a sense of Affandi as a person. Also interesting to see the work of his wife and children.

Famous art museum of afandi who is one of great painter in indonesia. It is located in Yogyakarta
The building is so unique. Beside it is so clean and tidy. They really maintain it very well. When I came here, it feels like this museum told me about Affandi, his personal life, also his family. Very intimate and subtle.
Great museum, excellent works if youre into expressionism or impressionism, also pay attention to works of their children. Also mind lots of old guides or reviews provide inaccurate price - I paid 100k full foreigner fee as of April 2019, which is OK by Western standards but bit pricey by Indonesian ones given the museum is rather small-ish
Really nice art and super friendly and helpful Personal there. They will explain everything to you and you can ask all the questions you have. Normal price is 100k (for students only 50kand you get a little souvenir and soft drink /ice cream. Would definitely recommend going there if you like art.
Iconic. Students can get 50% off the ticket price by showing Student ID and get free drink/or ice cream as complimentary at the Cafe Loteng.
You will find 4 gallery information about Affandy and his decessor. Affandy is one of prominence Indonesian expresionist fine artist (Indonesian vangough). The place easy to reach. Nice place.
Maestro! I love his paintings, but cant afford it. Hahahaha.
A must visit for arts lover. If you’re a foreigner this is a great place to see the works of one of Indonesia’s most renowned maestro. In addition to great works by Affandi, the museum also illustrates the life of Affandi and his family (whose also a painter — notably his daughter and his wife). The ticket price for local tourist is Rp 50,000 (USD 3,5but you can get half the price if you have a student ID
Great museum. We found a wonderful art there and the biography of Affandi itself. There is drawing class also for kids and adults.
Idr : 50 k (we get souvenir & free drink after the tour)A museum to tribute one of the best Indonesia painter, Mr. Affandi. In this museum we can see the masterpiece of Mr. Affandi & his family
Great painting, you can see grave of Affandi, here.
This museum has 4 galleries. Beautiful and amazing masterpieces. You can ask the prices from the front office. Also free guide, good service :)
A bit pricey, IDR 100k for public. And if you want to take pictures using camera (not phone), you have to pay additional fee. There are 3 galleries that offer various paintings made by Affandy, his wife, and his daughter. The place is quite small. Public restrooms available and there is a café where you can redeem a softdrink using your ticket
Nice roof that inspired by banana leaf. Interesting paintings collection with the unique painting method. A Van Gogh from the East. It has pipes collection of the painter.
Nice museum to visit eventho the pruce is high. You got a free guide, souvenir and snack. You can enjoy the art of Mr. Affandi and his family here.
Finally had a chance to visit Affandi Museum, this time I brought my little niece & nephew to learn about painting. Theyre eager to know and asked lots of questions and the guide answered all silly questions from the kids with friendly smile. We covered all 4 museum buildings with unique banana leaf roof and were fascinated by his changing way of painting. He squeezed the paint out from the tube directly to canvas and created the painting more alive. The most expensive painting of Affandis collection costs you the same as 14 houses!
Amazing artist with a museum to match! This place is a must see in Yogyakarta!
Inspiring place to visit. Must add to your cultural trip itinerary!
The entrance fee is 50k IDR (2.5 £). There are 3 galleries while the last one contains the painters family craft. There are ramp access, very sensible. I only give it 4 because the shop needs more augmentation. There are so few catalogue on the paintings. My favourite piece is the Alexanders pont. I can easily recognize the grand palace. Good art evokes emotion. Affandi delivers.
Visiting this museum got me mesmerized. I barely knew who Affandi was before I went to this museum, but after that, I got so many knowledge about him and his artworks. The admission ticket is very affordable. A person from the museum will see you after you buy a ticket and offer you a tour to the museum. They will tell you the stories of Affandi, his family, and the stories behind all the artworks (youre able to choose not to hear the stories from them if you want to enjoy the artworks all by yourself). Id say this is my best experience of going to an art museum so far. Oh and you can buy some artworks made by Affandis family and friends as well!
I did not really visit the museum but have an event at the restaurant was nice and affordable.a building with quirky design
This museum made me fall in love with expressionist art. Love how its all arranged in a timeline to see how Affandi grows as an artist.
The ticket is only Rp 25k for domestic visitors (free soft drink after the end of the tour), Rp 10k for students. If you want to take pictures inside, pay Rp 10k for pocket camera, and Rp 20k for pro camera. There will be a guide who accompany us wandering the four studios of the museum. It was very informative for me.
A gem designed and built by Affandi, an Indonesian surrealist painter - often dubbed as Indonesias Van Gogh. His body of work spans between paintings and sculptures. Consists of 4 major galleries and a cafeteria. He himself and his first wife is buried in he complex, beside the entrance of the first building. The ticket is relatively cheap, and cameras are allowed. The complex is very noticeable from Laksda Adisucipto street.
This legendary artist with his masterpiece in one historical home called gallery, such a bless to see these soulful arts
We met an old staff. Maybe he is around 50s. He was so polite and helpful that we really enjoyed his explanation about Mr Affandy and the paintings. He guided us from one gallery to another gallery. This museum has shown excellent service. The museum offered us a free drink in its cafetaria by exchanging our tickets. If you like painting and Mr Affandys experience, do not miss this place.Enjoy Affandy Museum. Enjoy Yogyakarta!
Often dubbed as the Indonesias Van Gogh, Affandi Museum is a must visit! The premise, used to be Affandis living quarter, is well maintained. There is a "real" restaurant serving good-quality steak. The guides are well informed and some were personally acquainted with the late Affandi (they told interesting stories and even briefed me about the price for few paintings that were put on sale---clues: theyre not cheap). Both Affandi & Maryati (his 1st wifeare buried in the museum area.
The guide is very friendly and detail. Simple but rich in every way. Overall satisfied and worth the price offered
One of the best museum in Indonesia. If you love art or painting, its a must visit place plus it has nice wall color, tosca !
Fascinating collection of the famous Indonesian artist. The paintings are impressive as well as the guide.
For those who are interested in finding anti-mainstream tourism destination in Yogyakarta, this museum can be your choice. It is managed by Affandis Family, a well-known Indonesian painters family. For foreigner the ticket costs Rp75.000. While for domestic, it costs Rp25.000. Welcome drinks and souvenirs (for foreignerare available. There are 4 galleries you can visit. The ambience and the atmosphere of the museum are very nice. Youre gonna love it.
Explore it yourself kind of museum, though if you ask, they could provide a tour guide to accompany you. The Affandi familys section is pretty awesome on its own.
I was very impressed from artworks here and Affandis life.
You will get the history from majestic painter from Indonesia. Nice decoration and the story behind it.
