Adega - Restaurant in Johannesburg, South Africa
absolutely pathetic service. ordered for iftar, order was confirmed, delivery was promised before iftar, it never came, they kept cutting my calls when i wanted to enquire, then i was sent a message afterwards to say that they have cancelled my order.
Food was good. Layout is cramped. You sit back-to-back with other patrons. Pricing is a bit steep. The tip is added onto the bill & split with the restaurant. So basically, customers have to pay the waiters salary, which is pathetic to say the least. The last I knew, gratuity was optional, depending on service received... π€
The elachi tea and buttered bread was good enough on its own. The stuffed calamari starters were gritty. We asked for deep fried calamari but got grilled calamari starters. The waiter couldnt explain why the kitchen couldnt deep fry the calamari heads. Mains were not up to adega standards. 2 piece of unsurruptiously plunked wited carrots, saucy spinach, creamy prawns and pumpkin. No fries either. A watery mess
I have recently placed an Order at Adega fordsburg and I was extremely disappointed with the service provided. I spoke to the owner who showed no concern at all. How do you run a restaurant without showing any concern to your customers?? #HelloPeter
Terrible service . The restaurant had made an uber eats error and refused to assist. The manager clever constantly put the phone down instead of assisting. We called the owner who as well did not assist
Cant believe how bad their service is. They could not assist with an UberEats error that they made. Even contacted the manager and owner and they were rude and not willing to help.
Food is great here. Top quality. Staff friendly as well.
Went for christmas lunch. Restaurant is quite small. Food was very fresh and tasty. Side note: service charge of 10% gets added to the bill...
Used to be a favourite restaurant pick. Food in general is below standard. Not as it used to be. The stuffed calamari remains the only constant winning dish.
Visited a little bit before busy supper time, so I dont have a baseline on a busy day, or during high traffic.Calamari starter was tasty, although it was smothered in the lemon butter sauce. My grilled sole done to perfection.Dessert was blueberry cheesecake, but felt like dressed up blueberry cheesecake ice cream.Staff was friendly...but I think I have to visit on a busy weekend lunch service to have a more realistic experience.
Very old and outdated setting. Confusing menu, felt like reading an advert book. Force you to pay a 10% tip without telling you. Very disappointing food at a premium price, stay away.
The place seemed quiet for peak time, so we were pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh and well presented. We received excellent service from our waitron Danisha. Will definitely visit again.
I enjoyed the food here. Really tasty
The food is really amazing π, and very helpful staff
Service not gud... Waiter unfriendly... Nachos consisted of few doritos with cheese and cream... No salsa... Veggies had huge carrot pieces not palatable....chicken bland and undercooked
Full chicken.. Always perfectly prepared and tasty.. At the time i.e Nov19, Had a special for two full chickens for R160. True value for money π
First time at this Adega Branch, visited during the week and was a bit sceptical when we found the place empty. However, when our meal was presented to us, the presentation was on point and the meal was freshly prepared hot and delicious. The waiter was very pleasant and professional. The price is affordable so we will definitely be frequent guests.
The food was excellent. But the Indian diners talk louder than a rave show. Indian women want to be heard on the other end of the restaurant. Some of the Indian muslim women want to show everyone in the restaurant who wears the pants. The food is great but the only thing you will walk out of the restaurant with, is a free headache.
The meal was superb and tasty excluding the mash wasnt smooth it had hard bits potatoes not prepared correctly impressed with time they spent preparing meal, impressed with portions lastly the staff was welcoming and helpful.
We visited during the week day, so it was very quite. The presentation was in order. Felt the prawns were not fresh or over cooked. I was under the impression that the gratuity given to the waiters was voluntary, it was actually part of the bill. I especially enjoyed the π.
I was there a while back, still recall how unimpressed I was with their surf anf turf meal.. Steak was chewy and the sauce a bit too runny. The waiters/waitresses seem hesitant to attend to us and their menus were missing pages.
Adega Fordsburg has the best LM Chicken. However the restaurant really needs to be upgraded. The table cloths need to be replaced. The bathroom is disgusting. These are small things that complete ones experience. Also, the last two times that I have been here the service has been shocking!Up your game Adega. This was previously a lovely restaurant.
We have always loved Adega, but this Ramadaan I have to unfortunately give it a bad rating for extremely poor and slow service. I assume they were understaffed being Ramadaan and business is quieter than usual without the lunch rush, but on Saturday night with many muslims wanting to have a break from the kitchen in large groups... it was most disappointing. The owner should have foreseen that the establishment would draw patrons for Ifthaar. We waited for water to break fast, 20 minutes for rolls and 40 minutes for our meals. All due to the shortage of staff and a restaurant full of patrons.
Friendly service. Food is excellent. Choose any dish and you will not be disappointed
Poor service. They brought the incorrect order and when we asked for the right things they were hesitant before agreeing to bring the correct food. Oh we had to wait for the correct order again, so over an hour wait.
Terrible. I phone in to make the order quicker as I was in a hurry and the food was late. Also I asked for the prawns and chicken not to be mixed in the same serving platter and it was. Also charged a service charge for shocking service. Will not go there again.
One of the few Halal Adega in South Africa. Steak is good . Full Portuguese chicken is delicious with some extra juicy sause. There is always midweek special which makes restaurant worth visiting during the week . Prawn are juicy and one of the best so far I ate in South Africa. Prawn are better than other major sea food chain in South Africa
Wonderful and warm ambience. Friendly service. Food is prepared and served fresh and hot. Stuffed calamari and/or chicken livers starters. Prawns are juicy and slip easily out of the shells. Delicious
Nice Food and very yammy
Inconsistent with orders. Received pasta that was stale and unedible due to the fact that the vegetarian pasta was off. Wasnt happy with the quality of food provided sadly.
I really enjoyed Adega today. My dads fish was excellent. He ordered the Kingklip special. My mum ordered a Gluten free Kingklip special. It was a bit overcooked but it was still tasty. We ordered the Dynamite prawns as a starter and it was amazing. The best starter Ive had in a long time. The pineapple and mango mocktail wasnt so nice but our awesome waitress Elisabeth took it back with a smile and they didnt charge. I ordered the Strawberry daiquiri and it still is the best in the whole wide world. The mint mocktail was nice too. Nice vibe and quiet β₯οΈ
Been coming here over the years and service and quality used to be moderate and inconsistent.Recently I am pleased to say that the food and service has definitely improved and I will keep coming back for more.
Visiting from the UK, recommended by family. Absolutely amazing prawns!
Always excellent...have yet to be dissapointed.
Inconsistent. Order arrived extremely salty. Sent it back to the kitchen... Guess what they brought the exact same chicken oht a few minutes later just have grilled it a little more. The problem was with it being salty - not under-cooked.
Food was absolutely awesome. Service was good. Its worth paying the price for
Prawns, sides and fish were lovely. Quite pricey though and this particular branch lacks atmosphere. Also the roller shutters on the verandah were not working, so verandah was shut off and quite stuffy on a hot day.
Nice food.location is ok. Just be careful in the evening as parking is on the street. Security is provided. Many beggars around the area. Have a good selection of seafood. The lm chicken a nice item to haveThe magmum milkshake very tasty.
Fantastic food.Really tasteStandards always maintainedSuper helpful staff
Just enjoyed an awesome lunch with good friends. Always professional service and excellent food from this particular branch! Ive been enjoying their steaks, prawns and chicken for years. That peri peri sauce! ππΆπΆπΆ
Not a fan of Fordsburg but this restaurant is one of the reasons I go there. Amazing Portuguese chicken and Prawns. For sides u have to add on the veg and a pasta and lastly close off with the homemade ice cream. Go with a group as most people do. Very reasonable pricing. Tips are included in the bill and the service is always great. Strictly halaal and no alcohol is served or consumed on the premises.
Many people will undoubtedly recommend this place. The food is Superb, and never lets you down. The Adega speciality Prawns served in bain maries are probably the most popular item on the menu, and a definite must try. The ambiance it provides and the feel of literally sharing a meal between friends and family is a real conversation starter and something we have long forgotten. Kudos to Adega for re-introducing it to us.That said, outside seating area (covered balconyis cramped, and the menu seems to serve more as an advertisement magazine. If an when these 2 items are "upgraded" to be more customer based, this will be a top notch venu.
What a great place this was when it opened. Recently it has declined with regards to service and I often visit to find things unavailable or out of stock. The other day the oven was broken so no garlic roll!? Absurd. However the LM Chicken is simply unparalleled and that alone is worth 2 stars. Sometimes you dont care about a venue - food is good enough to overlook the rest!
Consistently good tasting food. Good portions, great friendly service. The place gets very busy so book in advance and preferably in the outside area because the inside area often gets quite noisy.
Class dining experience. Good food paired with superb all round service. The reserved parking bays in front on the diner was a pleasant welcome.
Excellent halaal restaurant. Good service with delicious food. Always popular with my family. Although famous for seafood we love the chicken and my son loves the pasta. Stuffed calamari starter is well worth a try
Annoying thing is the fact that they add a 10% service fee to your bill. Really it should be the customers decision, whether the service was deserving of a tip, and personally it is not. Have not gone back because dont see why we need to pay an extra 10%, when we can get the same type of service for Free elsewhere. Also we prefer rewarding the staff for good service not the owners.
The food is nice. Presentation excellent. The seafood is fresh(you pay the price for that). Service satisfactory as long as its not crowded(even though youre paying for 10%, their service is not worth so much). Not bad for once in a while eat out .
Absolutely brilliant, if youre looking for good halaal food, this is the place. Gaurenteed to leave satisfied.
Halaal Portuguese restaurant. Nice variety on the menu. Fish, Portuguese chicken, steak, pasta, desserts. Good options for starters and drinks. Firm favorite for us for late Sunday family lunch in Johannesburg. Friendly staff. Efficient service. Parking can be a small issue at times, busy street especially during the week.
