Ace Hotel Pittsburgh in Wilkinsburg

Amazeballs place that I am not cool enough to stay at. My girlfriend is fortunately way more hip than me and booked the place. It is well-located and utterly fantastic. The rooms are minimalist without looking bleak. They are both retro and modern. (Oh, and everything is for sale in the room—the blankets, furniture, soap, glasses. So be careful what you use. My girlfriend almost used a charcoal soap that measured only slightly larger than a Eucharist wafer. That misstep couldve set us back $8.)Breakfast the next morning is rave-worthy. Homemade donuts and coffee that tasted like it was brewed from the fountain of youth. Also, for everything this place is, the price was well worth it. Next time were in Pittsburgh, well definitely be staying here.

Very cute hotel with very nice and helpful staff, but it was very dusty with lots of marks on the walls in our room and some mold in the grout in the bathroom tub. Towels really werent fluffy and the robe and bedding had pills on it. Our mini fridge also ran very warm and was a bit noisy. Valet parking was confusing if you show up later at night. If these types of things dont bother you youll probably love it here.

Great place for brunch with aesthetically pleasing interior. The meal I ordered was very well seasoned which stood out to me and really tasty. The pumpkin bread was a great treat as well.

We had our office Christmas party in the gymnasium. Great food, and service! The bartenders were friendly, and made great cocktails. The availability of locally made spirits and beer just, well... made me happy! The Ace Hotel is so uniquely Pittsburgh!!! Loved it!!

Stylish with a lot of hipster vibe. Great coffee bar (Stumptownand solid food at the lobby restaurant. Rooms are a bit too bare for me in terms of style, size and amenities (for example shower curtains instead of glass door, no free water, etc.)

Not my most favorite place Ive ever stayed. If you are over the age of 35 this place will most definitely make you feel downright OLD! Could tell almost immediately that this was a spot for the young and hip! It was clean and the staff was friendly and close to were I was working at in Bakery Square. Interesting place. Never been to a place that on top of the notepad there is also blank sheet music. For all those guests that during their stay while listening to all the young inebriated people yelling outside at 2 in the morning, feel inspired to write a musical masterpiece!

Cute, hipster hotel but horrible customer service. I had forgotten to check out at the noon checkout time and came back to find my shoes and items on my nightstand gone. After waiting for about 15 minutes, the hotel staff came and apologized but insisted that my items were never thrown out and that room service only threw out the trash bags. Additionally, they stated that after checkout time, they have no responsibility over items in the room. Not sure if its because I looked young or like I was being untruthful in some way but, overall, Im quite disappointed in the effort the staff took to find my lost items and address the issue.

Cool hotel. Hip. Nice restaurant and bar. The rooms themselves were fairly basic. Like a room from 1970 and a hard bed. But the price is really good so .... had a weird coffee experience. Ate breakfast before leaving. Paid. Tipped. Asked if I could take my coffee to go. They poured my 2 oz in like a Dixie cup. Seriously ? I had to ask a few times to have a regular full cup to go. They did but charged me another $3. Weird. Docked one star for thatBumped to four for coffee apology

Really cool hotel! The lobby is very nice, really cool decor, and the food is AMAZING! The bed was just okay and the bathroom walls had some visible water damage, but those things are minor. Over all a really great stay!

We really enjoyed our stay. Its a little different than a traditional hotel. It used to be an old YMCA. The beds are very low and might be tough to get out of for older people but I found sleeping was very comfortable. We had an event in the gym and it was a wonderfully unique experience. Its an old gym, open space, and it had a ping pong table, corn hole and a photo booth. The food was great and we enjoyed ourselves. Breakfast in the morning was also very good. Everything tastes like high quality ingredients were used (the coffee was very strong for our tastes but the cappuccino did the trick).

Start it off with the best friggin Bloody Mary in town. Follow up with anything on the menu. Whitfield breakfast, pastrami hash, you cannot go wrong on this menu. Best brunch in Pittsburgh. Can’t wait to go back and love it all over again. Great service too.

By buddy Jack left some sweet notes in a review so I needed to check this place out. Hot dog-he was right, this place wins! I arrived with a game of dodgeball game already going on in the hotel (bummed I couldn’t join). They had great food for dinner, unique rooms with good style in terms of simplicity. You can’t wrong with the location either. Walkable food is all around, a gym pass to use down the street, and a complimentary morning coffee pass from their barista on arrival. Well done!

The bar here is great. I have only ever been to the bar. Every single drink Ive had here was great. The staff has been friendly, and into conversation. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to stop in for a drink and see a beautiful building in the process.

I didnt stay here, but I did attend an event (Queer Craft Market), and it was my first time at the hotel. Such a cool space! The market was in their event space, an old gymnasium (the building used to be a YMCAand all the old paint and decor is still up on the floors and walls. Otherwise, parking is easy and it super close to lots of stuff in East Liberty (right next door to the library!). Folks who work there are sweet and helpful.

One of my favorite spots. Lively venue. Solid customer service. Wish there were more vegan options at their restaurant/bar, but they have been very accommodating every time. Great place to chill and get work done.

Our company, Module Housing, hosted an event with 200 guests in the ballroom of the Ace Hotel. The staff at the hotel went above and beyond our expectations with their helpfulness and hospitality. The staff thought of every detail, and promptly accommodated each of the dozen questions that we had for the staff ahead of the event. They even brought food to our (hungryteam during the event! We highly recommend the Ace for your next event.

Great coffee, great staff, great music, great design, all adds up to a great experience in their bar/lounge area. Can get uncomfortably crowded weekends and some nights (particularly when there are eventsbut is my favorite place in the city to get some daytime work done and/or meet people for a coffee.

Enjoyed the private room. Good server, who have me a great beer recommendation based on my preferences. Only had fries to eat, but they were quite good, and the rest of the food looked excellent (though you will pay for it).

This was a wonderful hotel and a great find in Pittsburg. The rooms were comfortable, and little details (cloth do not disturb and fire escape plan signsreally were creative and fun. The only thing I noticed is that its an old building and the windows were a little drafty so had to pump the heat up. The staff was wonderful, the restaurant (had both dinner and a pair of breakfastsstellar, and the price (I was able to book a midweek special at <$125/nightamazing. Would recommend to anyone.

I finally managed to visit the Ace Hotel after wanting to check it out for what seems like ages. I went for an urban-style art show. They did a great job setting up and displaying the artwork, there was a stage for musical performances. The restaurant was bustling as well, as was the bar areas. I had a great time, the few staff I spoke to were all friendly, enough so that I am pointedly keeping an eye out for future events being hosted there.

We rented a room and had a three course family style meal. The first two courses were great but I wish they would have had cake for dessert. Also, half way through the dinner they turned the heat off for some reason. Overall tho it was good.

Had lunch at the restaurant with a colleague. It was really quality food. I had the chicken sandwich and she had the burger. Both were fresh and very good. The fries were excellent. As far as the staff goes, I think they all shop at the same clothing store and visit the same barber, which helped, as they all worked together as a team. Great service. Well be back.

It was amazing! A very boutique space that thought of every detail. The room I stayed in had (I assumecustom furniture that worked with the space perfectly. It also had very convenient overhead lighting, which so many hotels dont. The shampoo/soap provided felt high end and was packaged more sustainably than most hotel shampoos. Very friendly staff. I only spent about 8 hours there and wasnt able to try the bar or the restaurant but both were very busy and looked great. My travel companions and I loved this hotel so much that were planning a trip to New Orleans just to stay at the Ace Hotel there. Definitely worth a stay, would come back again and again.

Dinner was absolutely the greatest in the dining room of the Ace Hotel. This building is a former YMCA built like a brick bunker made to last. I did see some of the hallways where the rooms were those hallway seem nice. I did not get to see the individual rooms. We had a function in the yes the gymnasium although the gymnasium could afford to have the floor refinished it was a great facility for a dance. Just loved it.!

The event space is a converted gym on the first floor which is spacious and adds a good vibe to the event. Not your typical conference center and is a fun place. Did not stay there but the attendees I were with did and they said the rooms were nice and quirky (different). Food in the small restaurant was good and the bar was packed but I believe it was due to the event.

The hotel is gorgeous and fun and trendy. The bartenders make the best cocktails and all the staff was so helpful and friendly. But Brett at the front desk was Wonderful. He made our experience amazing with his help and courteous demeanor.

Good location near the middle of Pittsburgh. A quaint hotel with a lot of unique personality that you wouldnt find at a Holiday Inn or big hotel chain. Room is clean and furnishings well taken care of. Contains pretty much everything youd expect in s hotel room. If youd like to indulge, has a paid minibar with snacks and drinks (alcohol too). Service was fine and the front desk was helpful and friendly throughout my stay.

Very nice cocktail menue, along with a few local beers on draft. The food menu seemed a bit light on vegetarian options compared to other restaurants in the area. The building is beautiful, and has a really great atmosphere. Nice place to hang out with friends and have a few drinks.

The event space on the first floor is a converted gymnasium which lends a nice flavor to events in that space. The hotel provided corn-hole, ping-pong, and board games as entertainment for the event. The event bar was kept by knowledgeable tenders who were able to recommend a drink for my tastes and whom I enjoyed talking to. The parking lot is a bit small and not obvious to find from the front entrance and public, so shared with other businesses in the area. The event food was a mix of decent food that ran out quickly and mediocre food (note that this doesnt apply to the food from the attached restaurant, The Whitfield, which is excellent).

Very cool hotel in the old YMCA building. Friendly, hip staff. Dogs allowed. Clean rooms. Beds weren’t super comfortable. Located outside of the city proper. Street parking was readily available and no charge 6pm-8am.

Some friends and I went to the hotel to grab some drinks and play some games at the gym. Unfortunately there was an event that was supposed to happen the next day and the usual games were not set up. We played some cornhole, grabbed drinks, and played some cards. The staff are very nice and accommodating. Overall a very nice place to relax and to hang out.

We went to see the Boilermakers play in the gym. Didnt realize there was dining, will have to come back for dinner. The old gym was awesome, although, the acoustics sucked. Not sure if they have concerts here often, but if you plan on seeing a band here, dont expect much by way of sound. Think, high school dance in the gym circa 1990.

This is a great place. The building is really beautiful and the work done to refurbish it is impressive. It keeps all the historic feeling but with a modern and subtile touch of technology. The Wifi is excellent, this is worth noting as most hotels are not exemplary on this. Rooms are spacious and well organized. The old style is there but everything is very functional. Be warned that there is no complimentary breakfast, but you can have one in the on-site restaurant.

We had a reservation for 10 for brunch and they sat us in a small room off of the kitchen, which had a door that could close, so it was a really nice table. It was also the old furnace foomt, so quaint decor. The coffee drinks and breakfast food was very good and well priced. The Whitman breakfast with grilled escarole was very good, and their homemade hot sauce was seriously one of the best Ive had. Definitely be back again.

"As cool as the other side of the pillow" This place is super cool and diverse. I came here for brunch and loved it. I loved everything about it. The food was bangin! The espresso was delicious and strong, the beer was solid, and the service was wonderful. Ambiance++ Will return soon.

Stopped in for breakfast at the Ace Hotel. When I was told that we were going to grab breakfast at a hotel, Ive got to be honest - I wasnt terribly excited. But the food here is nice and the atmosphere is inviting and chic. I had an omelet with smoked peppers and black coffee. The Omelette was cooked well and came with a fresh side salad. It was simple but delicious. The smoked Peppers peeked through the cheddar and egg and made for a very delightful meal. The coffee was very good as well.

Beautiful boutique hotel in the upcoming East Liberty neighborhood. It has a lot of character with its vintage design.There are a lot of events that happen weekly and the hotel attracts a lot of locals. Really great gymnasium for hosting an event. My company had an office party there and the space was easily able to accommodate 75+ people.Highly recommend coming here to enjoy coffee in the lobby or grabbing a yummy brunch at the Whitfield!

I recently had brunch at the restaurant at Ace. I was visiting Pittsburgh for the first time after a decade away since my graduation from Pitt. I was shocked by the phenomenal transformation of the East Liberty area, where Ace is located in a neat, historical building. The hotel itself and its staff is very hip and trendy, as well as generally friendly. Trendiness aside, the brunch was fantastic. I had what is without question one of the most impressive pancakes in living memory, and my companions seemed equally pleased. The only complaint I have is that we werent offered a drink menu and I didnt know they offered alcohol until the table next to me ordered drinks as I was about to leave - I would have had some too! 4/5, would return

I only saw the upstairs ballroom but it was nice. The stage is small but there was room for a 14 piece band. There was a small bar set up for the ballroom on the night of the event which was convenient. If you are there to dance, the floor is a toll that Im guessing is laid on concrete so it is a little unforgiving for a long workshop but not too bad for a three hour dance.

Cool hotel. A sort of boutique, hipster style vibe throughout. I was fortunate enough to get upgraded so did feel like my room was good size and well appointed, bathroom is small. Bar and restaurant here are excellent, maybe the best part of the hotel besides Monday dodgeball in the old fashioned gym. I would recommend this hotel for business travelers but not so much for couples.

Very unique hotel. The room was very clean and incorporated a lot of the retro vibe from the old YMCA. In a great part of town now too for restaurants, although I recommend doing what we did, which is to eat dinner at The Whitfield restaurant on site and then get breakfast there too. Fantastic food.

Very clean. A lot of stores and restaurants within walking distance around the hotel . Staff was nice and accommodating. Our room was spacious and well decorated. It has a rustic yet contemporary atmosphere. Our stay was very enjoyable.

Great room with a beautiful view. It has a lot of clever and historical character. The staff is very friendly without being intrusive. Dogs are welcome here, and at the bar. The details of this place make you smile. It’s definitely hip, but not arrogantly so.

Was only here for drinks at the bar. It is a fun and funky place with an eclectic group of people. Drinks are reasonably priced but the bartenders are a bit sloppy. It is a renovated YMCA and still holds onto some of that charm. Gym area is littered with a variety of games and even a basketball hoop. They take the rustic look overboard here as the paint is chipping off of the walls and is starting to resemble a jail more than a hotel.

Cool place to grab a drink, I didn’t eat at the restaurant. The atmosphere as a former YMCA here is really cool. Staff was friendly and not too attentive for the casual bar. They provide board games to pass the time with your companions. A bit pricy.

nice atmosphere and decor. Do yourself a favor and try not to get a room with a mini bar, instead of putting a card on file like most hotels, they charged me for the whole mini bar ($200)on day one of my 5 day trip and told me theyd refund whatever the difference was of what i took out of the mini bar after i left. That was all of my money i had for my stay. Luckily i had money in my savings account for emergencies Still waiting on my refund which should take ABOUT 5 DAYS to get back to my account. Needless to say i didnt touch the mini bar Beware of this ridiculous charge! Last day was on 7/22/17.

Came here for a weekend. Loved the hotel, the staff were extremely kind and accommodating. The space was very cool and they hosted events every night we stayed there. Which would have been not a problem if we did not have the room directly above the ballroom. Great coffee downstairs and breakfast was also very good.

This review is about the coffeeshop only -Beautiful boutique hotel with an eclectic, but still sophisticated and beautiful interior and a natural flow. Came here for a meeting - a hotel was an unexpected locale, but once there, felt completely natural and would highly recommend it for coffee and meet-ups. Enjoyed a delicious ginger-turmeric latte & received exceptional service, even though we were clearly there for a meeting - and not to spend extra money - which I thoroughly appreciated.

Went for an early morning Sunday brunch. The services was impeccable and the food was excellent. My omelet was the perfect balance of hearty & fluffy, which I cant achieve when I cook them! Smaller dining area so get there early to beat the rush. Great brunch!!!

Cool place to stay (if youre not traveling with childrenall rooms are Queen or King beds and reasonably priced. The lobby has a nice focus on cocktails and craft beer, but there are also a few less "flashy" options. Im a fan of sofas, sectionals, and chairs arranged to facilitate conversation and not just packed in for max occupancy. If the old gym (the space was an old ymcaisnt being rented there are some fun games. The restaurant, Whitfield is fantastic. If nothing else stop in for happy hour!
