Accademia Carrara Museum in Bergamo
Description
Privilege
I have there a few times! It’s really nice even if it’s a little small, but there are quite a lot of paintings and some rooms are stunning! It has been recently renovated and there will be a reorganization of the rooms in the foreseeable future. It’s definitely a must see if you plan to visit Bergamo, the museum it’s in the historical district of S. Caterina and five minutes walk from Porta S. Agostino, one of the main doors to reach the Upper Town, the historical core of the city.
MoreGreat little gallery with an awesome collection. The guy at the ticket counter was very helpful.
MoreSuch a beautiful place, they have Botticelli 😍
Lovely museum. Lots of beautiful paintings. Kids loved it.
I like galleries that are compact , and well laid out, that dont overwhelm you with too much . This is one of those - high quality Renaissance art (highpoints include some excellent Boticellis , Durer, etc and lots from the Venetian school . Arranged chronologically. Also has statuary, and frequent special exhibitions - Velasquez when I visited. The man at the front desk deserves a bonus.
MoreVery kind people are working there. The most beautiful gallery for me so far. Velazquezs painting was breathtaking. There are paintings of really famous artists such as Sandro Botticelli, Albrecht Dürer... Its really big gallery so its worth the money for sure. If you love art just like me you shouldnt miss this when youre in Bergamo. <33
MoreFirst time here, a fascinating place full of history. Nearby you find nice coffee shops and an amazing old neighborhood leading to the old town.
MoreMust see!
For a provincial museum this place has an astonishing collection of art works thanks to 4 major bequests. Staff were super helpful and informative. When we visited the museum was very quiet and tranquil and one could wander the exhibits at leisure.
MoreSuper friendly staff, they were very helpful and the museum has some really interesting art works. Recommend 100% if you are visiting Bergamo.
MoreAmazing collection. Great app!!!
very nice, im going for sure back to there
Nice art exposition but only one Rembrandt picture
A very nice art gallery with an academic point of view. The paintings are sorted and arranged in terms of time, category, ... I came here for the Rembrandt exhibition which will last until Oct 2021. I think this place is one of my favorites now in Lombardy. Also the service is awesome with friendly staffs, nice seats outside for guests to just relax. And a vending machine for souvenirs is the best thing that I have seen.
MoreI would give 4-5 stars if the price was less than 10 EUR. Stuff are very friendly however the price point is high for what you get. Many masterpieces are borrowed
MoreGreat collection, made me fall in love with Bergamo
An exceptional good Art Museum in Bergamo, we visited the place as a family of six and also our youngest child (11 yearsenjoyed the presented art work. It is a must visit for anyone who is interested in Art work of the centuries 1500 to 1800.
MoreBeautiful gallery, not too small and not too big. We enjoyed it a lot!
One of the best galleries in Bergamo. It is a bit faraway from the main road, but definitely worth a visit. It has got a large collection of paintings, including Bellini, Tiepolo, Mantegna, Dürer, and even Raffaello. The itinerario leads you from the 16th century renaissance period to the realism art of Caravaggio, with a special focus on the Venetian painting style. Also notable is that the entrance is free for students under 18.
MoreAllow about 2 hours to do justice to this wonderful collection of artworks, which takes you from the Renaissance in the 15th Century through to the 19th Century. Thoughtfully presented in chronological order by artist, there is enough information next to each painting to inform you without overwhelming. We bought a Visitors Guide for €8 which has photos of many of the best examples from each era, and the information as displayed in the Academy - a really good souvenir for anyone interested in Art History. If you prefer there are also audio guides or tablet guides available for hire.
MoreBig collection of Italian masters paintings from XVI-XIX centuries. Worth to spend 2-3 hours in Bergamo.
MoreA wonderful well explained collection. It is a little bit expensive but it is very unique. The facilities, layout and staff are impeccable.
MoreNice overview through centuries of italian art. Very proffessional guide lady.
A beautiful place where you can meet history. Famous pantings, pathetic atmosphere and kind people in short words that is Accademia Carrara.
MoreVery interesting exhibitions, excellent!
Highly recommended. The collection is precious and wonderful. Admission ticket a bit pricy but worth visiting!
MoreGreat collection of El Greco, Titan , Botticelli , Bellini , etc . Stunning building and cordial staff.
MoreAmazing art museum with great Italian masterpieces.
Fun little gallery. Modern and refreshing. You can get inside for free.
Very worth a stop! Very cool museum that outlines the history of Bergamasco and greater Italian art.
MoreIt is definitely worth a visit, let me get that out of the way. But compared with the beautifully curated and installed contemporary gallery opposite this is a bit of a mess. The works fight for space overly cramped walls, the restoration seems too aggressive to the point of inauthenticity. I am of the preservation rather than recreation school of restoration, so this may not be a problem for some. The truth is that the collection is great, and worth a look. But the chaotic reception areas, terrible typography on the walls and the odd silhouettes on the windows combine to give a designed by committee vibe to the space.
MoreA nice building but the "art" on display was un-exciting and of poor quality. Could have knocked the entire display up in an afternoon in my shed!
MoreAppreciate it that it is a small city with this kind of high quality museum. However, would appreciate it further if the texts were more inspired and not just informational. Add a little background story details, or a humanistic curators approach and you will inspire the public even more.
MoreGreat experience. Full immersion of art.
Very interesting pieces. Extensive collection. I did use the audio tour and found it very informative.
MoreFantastic little gallery, would have loved to spend a bit longer and it was a shame the gift shop was closed when we were there. Wear a cardigan (/extra layeras its surprisingly cold in some parts!
MoreA relatively small collection of excellently selected modern art in a beautifully appointed compact space. Every piece is a gem. This is in reference to their permanent collection for which admission is free. Absolutely nourishing for my spirit. I did not see their special exhibit space as it was closed at the time.
MoreA really, really good regional gallery, recently restored. Established by local aristocrat Count Carrara in tbe 1800s this superb gallery contains Italian masterpieces from the Renaissance and baroque. Many of the big names are here - Botticelli, Titian, Bellini to name but a few. But there are also wonderful works by artists whose names are less familiar, such as Lorenzo Lotto and Giambattista Moroni. The museum reopened a few years ago in its beautiful home and is a pleasure to visit with excellent explanatory texts in English and Italian. Best of all? Its never crowded. Youll enjoy and get more out of this gallery that fighting the crowds in Florence, Rome or Venices art museums.
MoreVery surprising museum - the exhibitions are not very rich, but very well designed, offering a strong aesthetic experience. Not small, but not huge either. The Raphael exhibition I’ve seen also featured 19th century and modern works, placing the artist in a wider context. The highlight of my Bergamo day trip.
More15€ for 2 exhibitions.Raffaello (temporaryand Carrara Museum.Normal and tradicional museum
MoreOutstanding collection that is well documented in both Italian and English.
As a tarot card enthousiast, this was a real treat. Nice museum. Not very large. Good light.
MoreThats great place to know art of Bergamo. Nice people and paintings
Outstanding museum on medieval and Renaissance fine arts. Must see place at Bergamo. Visitors are allowed to take non commercial photo without flash light.
MoreIts beautiful. Most of the art work is Renissance period. I gave it 3 stars because of the price. Most of the museums in Milan or Turin are similarly priced. Many of the local churches have nice paintings and they are free. The nice part is that everything has an english description. There are some very nice pieces and the Moroni collection is nice. I suppose I expected more for 10€.
MoreNice museum with a lot of masterpieces. Good overview of Italian masters.
Wonderful medium sized museum with some good examples of Italian renaissance art
Very nice collection - not too big and complicated. Entrance fee is 10€s and is open toll 19:00. In general 2hrs should be enough - very enjoyable.
MoreA gallery with paintings by Italian artists, mostly from the 15th to 18th century. There are also a few sculptures. A nice way to spend an afternoon.
MoreBeautiful City Art Gallery. The collection exhibits painting of some of the most important painters of the Italian tradition. It has been important in developing the culture and passion of the art in the local community. My preferred one is `Ritratto di giovane` by Lorenzo Lotto.
