I have there a few times! It’s really nice even if it’s a little small, but there are quite a lot of paintings and some rooms are stunning! It has been recently renovated and there will be a reorganization of the rooms in the foreseeable future. It’s definitely a must see if you plan to visit Bergamo, the museum it’s in the historical district of S. Caterina and five minutes walk from Porta S. Agostino, one of the main doors to reach the Upper Town, the historical core of the city.

I like galleries that are compact , and well laid out, that dont overwhelm you with too much . This is one of those - high quality Renaissance art (highpoints include some excellent Boticellis , Durer, etc and lots from the Venetian school . Arranged chronologically. Also has statuary, and frequent special exhibitions - Velasquez when I visited. The man at the front desk deserves a bonus.

Very kind people are working there. The most beautiful gallery for me so far. Velazquezs painting was breathtaking. There are paintings of really famous artists such as Sandro Botticelli, Albrecht Dürer... Its really big gallery so its worth the money for sure. If you love art just like me you shouldnt miss this when youre in Bergamo. <33

For a provincial museum this place has an astonishing collection of art works thanks to 4 major bequests. Staff were super helpful and informative. When we visited the museum was very quiet and tranquil and one could wander the exhibits at leisure.

A very nice art gallery with an academic point of view. The paintings are sorted and arranged in terms of time, category, ... I came here for the Rembrandt exhibition which will last until Oct 2021. I think this place is one of my favorites now in Lombardy. Also the service is awesome with friendly staffs, nice seats outside for guests to just relax. And a vending machine for souvenirs is the best thing that I have seen.

I would give 4-5 stars if the price was less than 10 EUR. Stuff are very friendly however the price point is high for what you get. Many masterpieces are borrowed

One of the best galleries in Bergamo. It is a bit faraway from the main road, but definitely worth a visit. It has got a large collection of paintings, including Bellini, Tiepolo, Mantegna, Dürer, and even Raffaello. The itinerario leads you from the 16th century renaissance period to the realism art of Caravaggio, with a special focus on the Venetian painting style. Also notable is that the entrance is free for students under 18.

Allow about 2 hours to do justice to this wonderful collection of artworks, which takes you from the Renaissance in the 15th Century through to the 19th Century. Thoughtfully presented in chronological order by artist, there is enough information next to each painting to inform you without overwhelming. We bought a Visitors Guide for €8 which has photos of many of the best examples from each era, and the information as displayed in the Academy - a really good souvenir for anyone interested in Art History. If you prefer there are also audio guides or tablet guides available for hire.

It is definitely worth a visit, let me get that out of the way. But compared with the beautifully curated and installed contemporary gallery opposite this is a bit of a mess. The works fight for space overly cramped walls, the restoration seems too aggressive to the point of inauthenticity. I am of the preservation rather than recreation school of restoration, so this may not be a problem for some. The truth is that the collection is great, and worth a look. But the chaotic reception areas, terrible typography on the walls and the odd silhouettes on the windows combine to give a designed by committee vibe to the space.

Appreciate it that it is a small city with this kind of high quality museum. However, would appreciate it further if the texts were more inspired and not just informational. Add a little background story details, or a humanistic curators approach and you will inspire the public even more.

A relatively small collection of excellently selected modern art in a beautifully appointed compact space. Every piece is a gem. This is in reference to their permanent collection for which admission is free. Absolutely nourishing for my spirit. I did not see their special exhibit space as it was closed at the time.

A really, really good regional gallery, recently restored. Established by local aristocrat Count Carrara in tbe 1800s this superb gallery contains Italian masterpieces from the Renaissance and baroque. Many of the big names are here - Botticelli, Titian, Bellini to name but a few. But there are also wonderful works by artists whose names are less familiar, such as Lorenzo Lotto and Giambattista Moroni. The museum reopened a few years ago in its beautiful home and is a pleasure to visit with excellent explanatory texts in English and Italian. Best of all? Its never crowded. Youll enjoy and get more out of this gallery that fighting the crowds in Florence, Rome or Venices art museums.

Very surprising museum - the exhibitions are not very rich, but very well designed, offering a strong aesthetic experience. Not small, but not huge either. The Raphael exhibition I’ve seen also featured 19th century and modern works, placing the artist in a wider context. The highlight of my Bergamo day trip.

Its beautiful. Most of the art work is Renissance period. I gave it 3 stars because of the price. Most of the museums in Milan or Turin are similarly priced. Many of the local churches have nice paintings and they are free. The nice part is that everything has an english description. There are some very nice pieces and the Moroni collection is nice. I suppose I expected more for 10€.

Beautiful City Art Gallery. The collection exhibits painting of some of the most important painters of the Italian tradition. It has been important in developing the culture and passion of the art in the local community. My preferred one is `Ritratto di giovane` by Lorenzo Lotto.
